The Patient by Jasper Dewitt was amazing! Sinister and creepy kids say less!! This story creeped me out from beginning to end! It’s part thriller/part horror. I don’t know why I sat on this one. It was great!! 4 captivating stars!! It’s been awhile since I read this one and I still think of this book often. Unfortunately, it did have some plot holes that brought my rating slightly down. But overall, I HIGHLY recommend.
Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for a copy to read in exchange for my honest opinion.

"The Silent Patient by way of Stephen King". I mean that is the most spot on sentence and I didn't even write it. I was amazed and blown away by the wirting style

Sooooo good! This book was a thriller, and it did a great job creeping me out along the way. I never felt like I could really trust any of the characters, which I liked. It was great to be able to determine if I was correct, or far off (I had some stuff right, but the twists and turns had me confused until the end!

The Patient is told through a series of blog posts by a young psychiatrist. Parker has come across a patient who has been institutionalized for years without a clear diagnosis. Parker dives into the patients history and becomes even more fascinated. Parker makes it his mission to help Joe but at what cost?
The format was a nice change in pace but I wasn’t really thrilled with the writing itself.
3 Stars

When I first saw this book, I was super excited about the premise, but every time I try to engage in the book, I just get turned away. There's an interesting layout that I feel was well-utilized but I didn't care for the narrator themselves and found it hard to really get into it. I DNF'd it but I do think there's a market for people who like out of the box thrillers, it just wasn't the book for me.

Unfortunately I was unable to get to this book before it was archived. Thank you for the opportunity.

This was a great read! Not quite what I was expecting but it certainly kept me guessing! Memorable and interesting.

Thank you to netgalley and publisher for opportunity to read this Arc and provide my honest review.
This was an extremely quick read and intriguing. The story was chilling. Definitely recommend for those interested in psychological books and horror.

“Patient Joseph M—— is a six-year-old boy suffering from acute night terrors, including vivid hallucinations of some sort of creature that lives in the walls of his room and which emerges at night to frighten him. Joseph’s parents brought him in after one particularly violent episode in which his arms sustained significant contusions and abrasions. Patient claims it was from the creature’s claws.”
A young psychiatrist takes on the case of a 40-year-old patient who was admitted to a New England mental hospital when he was six. Over the years, those who attempted to help him were driven to madness or suicide.
You would think a setup like that would be the perfect read for me, but The Patient ultimately disappoints with mediocre writing and fairly predictable third act. 2.5 stars rounding up to 3.

This was such an addictive, thrilling and terrifying read. The Patient is about a young psychiatrist named Parker. Through a series of online posts, he details the time he spent working at a psychiatric hospital where he treated a very dangerous man with an undiagnosed condition.
Every chapter of this book brings the reader closer to finding out what is going on with this mysterious patient, and as warned by Parker at the beginning, it is a chilling revelation.
I enjoyed this book so much. I found the format refreshing and the story completely compelling. The ending, in my opinion, was not as strong as the rest of the story, hence the rating.

This book was intriguing technical and one that was like being in a rollercoaster. A lot of ups and downs where I was hooked in some parts and completely bored in others. I really enjoyed the premise though and thought the writing overall was super well written and clever

This was my first jaunt into the horror genre and while I enjoyed the book, I certainly was not blown away.
The book introduces Parker, an idealistic, young psychiatrist working in the Connecticut State Asylum. Here he meets long term patient Joe who is now at all what he appears to be... Parker makes it his mission to help Joe but at what cost?
This was a short, quick but interesting read but I don't know if I would necessarily remember it in a year's time. It was a bit of a lack lustre story and I think the whole pretending it was real, like the Blair Witch Project, probably put me off.

"He said it was like the monster in those nightmare had been whispering to him all night, saying how much he missed chasing him and catching him and eating him."
The Patient is told through a series of blog posts by a young psychiatrist, Parker, who has stumbled across a mysterious patient who has been institutionalized for years without a clear diagnosis. Parker becomes more and more fascinated with the patient, and begins to dive into his horrific history.
This was a really fast read with some genuine chilling moments.

I actually enjoyed this book very much. It kept me guessing the entire time. Quick read for me and the ending was good. I would and have recommended this book!

This was a fabulous creative plot! The story was presented around a series of web posts by the "anonymous" doctor who had recently taken his turn at treating a long term ward, psychiatric patient. There is a mysterious controversy surrounding the patient. The records are sparse and the specific diagnosis is still undetermined.
Why has this patient essentially been locked up and the hospital has washed their hands of him? Other than the daily basic living necessities, provided by only one single orderly, no one has any contact with him. As a newly graduated doctor out of his residency, this doctor is young and vibrant and full of dreams to save the unsaveable. He believes he could be the one to finally crack the code on this patient's diagnosis and successfully treat him. Little does he know the true and horrifying nature of the task he's nominated himself for. He will learn soon enough.
Intriguing, suspenseful and entertaining indeed. A quick read that provides a fun and climatic reading experience. It appeared to lose a bit of steam in the last quarter. Overall, a read that won't disappoint!
Thank you to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt via NetGalley for the digital reader copy.

A story of a young and naive psychiatrist that starts a job at an asylum. The story is quick paced and a thriller which keeps you on the edge of your seat. As he tries to help one of the patients that has been there since he was 6, to whom everyone has deemed a monster. There are several twists that keep you guessing!

i cannot rave about this book enough, it had me questioning everything as I was reading. our main character was so amazing, and the slow build suspense to the big twist had me jaw-dropping, and I could have never predicted that THAT was going on. the ending was amazing as well, the ambiguity of it was perfect for the story.

Young Dr. Parker is working at a state mental hospital in New England. He is given a ward with the supervision of a supervisor which doesn’t trust him. When Parker asks about a mysterious patient named Joe, his supervisor rebukes him. Parker is persistent despite the psychological parrying whenever he tries to find out about Joe’s case. When Parker finds some old files on Joe, he is surprised to find only notes about his medications an none on hiss therapy. When Parker talks to the director of the hospital, he finds out why Joe has his own room and no therapy notes. The previous doctors and staff that interacted with Joe died. They committed suicide. There is also a subplot with Parker and his fiancé. Will Parker be able to do therapy with Joe? Will he kill himself, if he does?
While the author has written a fascinating novel, there is some “old-fashioned gross-outs.” It is a horror story due to the fact that Joe is not what he appear to be. I was enthralled with this story due to some unexpected twists and turns that I didn’t expect. It’s well written and compelling. I have put this author on my must read authors list.

The Patient is a terrifying story. It’s an amazing tale of escalating tension and horror. I didn’t know what to believe, and I absolutely did not figure out how it would all turn out. The writing is spot on. Characters are great. And the ending is excellent. I loved this book! I highly recommend it!

I had a hard time finishing this because it scared me! That said, it kind of dragged at times but overall a good thriller for sure.
