Another wonderful book by one of my favorite mystery writers! I have enjoyed getting to know the characters in this series and the different challenges that they face.

The second in the Danger Never Sleeps series, this book focuses on Sarah, who is an investigative journalist stationed in Kabul, Afghanistan. While teaching at a local school, she is kidnapped by terrorists, along with another teacher and students. Special Agent Gavin Black is ordered by Sarah's father, a powerful general, to rescue her and bring her to safety. Once home, Sarah is discharged from the Army due to her father's machinations. She is determined to get back in until she learns her younger brother has committed suicide. Determined to get to the bottom of her brother's death and the disappearance of a tortured young woman in the hospital, Sarah enlists Gavin's help, as well as her older brother, Caden. Together they uncover an evil plot that will put them all in mortal danger, even as Sarah and Gavin begin falling for each other.

I enjoyed this book very much and could not put it down until I reached the thrilling end. The author addressed very serious and heartbreaking subject matter in a tactful way, but she did not shy away from showing the brutal realities of war and the harmful effects of PTSD. The story and the characters came alive for me as I read, to the point where I almost felt like I was there. As much as I enjoyed the first book, this one packed more of a punch for me as I read due to the trauma experienced by the characters and the prevalence of the topic of suicide. I was glad to see the theme of God's love and forgiveness throughout the book - it was just the right amount of biblical truth. The humorous scenes also helped break up the tension as everything escalated. I would caution anyone who has difficulty with these topics, but I do highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading suspense and stories involving the military and police.

An excellent, fast-paced novel with plenty of messy topics to keep the plot and characters busy for days. The author does not shy away from mental health issues, and does a wonderful job of expressing the depth and complexity of myriad problems with grace and understanding. She makes the characters raw and real and draws the reader in with her complexity and attention to detail. I loved the family dynamics and how honest and relevant it was.

Enjoyed the many twists and turns in this book. The characters seem believable and the hurt is palpable. Highly recommend this series, haven't been disappointed yet.

This was a pretty great story. I enjoyed the edgy opening, fast pace, and heart-pounding action. I also thought the author was quite gutsy to tackle head-on the tough topic of suicide. She handled it superbly and beautifully showed the regret and sorrow of such a devastating choice. The characters were relatable and the mystery well delivered. I especially liked the high-stakes action late in the story.

The sex crimes that popped up in the final chapter or two seemed to come out of nowhere. I’m not sure why they were included, other than the shock factor. I felt the same about the sleeping around issue that cropped up quite suddenly. There was no layering in of either bombshell, and they felt quite unnecessary to the plot for both characters involved.

Triggers: suicide

Content: alcohol, drugs, tobacco, suicide, replacement expletives, tattoos, swearing by “the name of all that’s sacred,” sleeping around (a character’s background, so not shown on-page), sex crimes (mentioned, not shown)

Lynette Eason is back with a bang! This series has been a wild ride since the beginning, and continues to be one! I enjoyed getting to know Sarah and Gavin throughout the story and loved their sweet romance. The plot is fast-paced and action-filled, and keeps you on your toes. I stayed up way too late too many nights in a row to finish this one. The later half of the book is full of plot twists and unexpected turns that had me on the literal edge of my seat. Overall, another fabulous thriller from Eason!

Just how much is an acceptable risk?

Wow! Was I surprised by just how much I liked Acceptable Risk! I hadn't read anything by Lynette Eason for awhile but decided to give her new Danger Never Sleeps series I shot when book one came out, and, lo and behold, I liked it it. Fast forward to book two and it was even better!

Acceptable Risk was an edge-of-your-seat romantic suspense from the very first page. The action was non-stop and there were more twists and turns than a game of Chutes And Ladders. Seriously, author Lynette Eason had me hooked right off and she held me hostage until the very end.

I know the phrase has probably been well used and over used but Acceptable Risk has some of the best flawed characters. They deal with a whole range of issues including rejection, unforgiveness, unresolved anger, and even a little bit of spite. And yet, author Lynette Eason has portrayed them in such a true-to-life way that you can completely understand why, even realizing that you yourself would probably react in a similar way.

If you are a fan of romantic suspense novels that will keep you breathlessly turning the pages and anxiously awaiting the next release I'd definitely recommend the Danger Never Sleeps series. It's a doozy!

I had the pleasure of reading the first book from Lynette Eason's Danger Never Sleeps series,
Collateral Damage. So, I was excited to have the opportunity to read the second installment, Acceptable Risk. It definitely does not disappoint. It was so so good. Five stars.

Acceptable Risk is full of everything I ever look for in a romantic suspense. It has action, nail biting moments of danger, and plenty of characters learning to trust and love each other. (And kisses!)

Sara was absolutely incredible from her very first page. I was in awe of her strength and bravery. She was my favorite type of strong female lead.

Gavin was quite impressive as well. I really loved how calm and strong he was. But I also loved how he showed his feelings throughout the book too. I loved that with people be trusted he was willing to admit his fears.

I will admit I figured out the bad guy and the problem in the story quite a bit faster than I usually prefer to in this type of book - but it didn't detract from my enjoyment.

I'm loving this series and cannot wait for book 3.

I received an advanced copy of this book through NetGalley. This is my honest review.

Full of intrigue and suspense you never knew who the bad guys were. Action packed, some romance and inspirational. Gives insight into military who are now civilians and dealing with PTSD.

Acceptable Risk in the second book in the Danger Never Sleeps series by Lynette Eason, but it can be read as a stand-alone novel. Sarah Denning spent her time overseas in the Middle East serving as a military journalist, but gunshot injuries end her deployment. Anticipating her return to her unit, Sarah is shocked to learn that has been discharged for PTSD. Add in the mysterious suicide of her brother, and Eason has built a foundation for an edge of your seat thriller. Besides being an entertaining romantic suspense novel, Eason tackles mental health adding another level of depth to the plot. Is book three available yet?

Get ready for a wild ride! Acceptable Risk is the second book in this military series. It starts off with high intensity and never lets up. The writing is superb with details that will send you on a roller coaster ride of twists and turns. It tackles tough issues such as PTSD and suicide, as well as family tension. These issues are not glossed over but rather give you insight into the depths of the pain but also the healing that can happen. The characters feel as though you are right there with them in action. This is one that I will not soon forget. I am anticipating the next in the series. I would pick up the previous book and this one so you will be ready for the next release!

This is, hands down, my favorite Lynette Eason series. Does anyone else feel like they say that with each new series she writes?! This is just head and shoulders above her other work. The characters are so real you could touch them, and the suspense is ultra-intense. Eason is finally getting gritty, and not afraid to tackle tough, real life, subjects like PTSD and suicide. I will say, I loved the strong military aspects of the first book, and they were much less present in this novel. From the story progression, I’m not sure we’ll be getting as much military action as I’d hoped this series would bring. None the less, Eason delivers a well-crafted story full of page turning plot twists, and realistic romance. This book is a rollercoaster of emotions, so get ready for a wild ride, and to feel out of breath when you’re done.

This is the second in a series. Sarah is our primary target or character here. She's a journalist/reporter with the army overseas. But then she's captured investigating a story. And somehow she survives. She's not sure how or why.

While she physically survived albeit with a few bullet holes her mental health has taken a toll over her years living like this. She's diagnosed with PTSD and sent home. Only she has no say in this and she wonders what is really going on.

Sarah's relationship with her father is strained at best. She's rebelled against him ever since her mother died and he all but disowned her when she joined the army. The fact he's behind her medical discharge rubs her wrong and really makes her want to jump back in the fray.

But then she finds out about threats against her father's life and through that herself. But that's not all. One of her brothers has committed suicide. Only he was doing better. He'd healed and was looking forward to life. Why would he jump? What is really going on?

Sarah's journalist brain is taking hold and suddenly someone is trying to kill her. Good thing her dad has a bodyguard for her. Only she doesn't know that's what he's there for. But that's okay because he wants to be there for her. He has feelings for her in fact.

Let the roller coaster ride begin! Can Sarah figure this all out before more people die? But most importantly can she figure it out before she herself dies?

This is a very quick-moving book and I found that I had to have the next book as soon as I finished this one. They are that good and that well written. I loved this book! I highly recommend that you read this entire series and I'm anxiously awaiting book number four now because that read that amazing.

The characters carry through in this series so I do feel they should be read in order. Get the whole series and then join me in waiting for the latest release!

Wow and wow! I want to be careful how I write this review, as I don’t want to give away a single plot detail of this exciting book.

This book has a somewhat shocking beginning, and well prepares you for the action that never stops until the very end of the story. This story felt as if it could be one you’d find in today’s news. The writing is crisp; and the twists and turns of this story just keep coming. The characters of Sarah Denning and Gavin Black are compelling and it’s easy to get deeply involved in their story and the danger they are facing. The book description says that is a “nail-biter” of a tale, and I certainly would agree with that. It’s an amazing story. I’ve read many of Lynette Eason’s suspense books, but I think this one is her best yet, This is Christian fiction that’s clean, with a light thread of faith in the storyline.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.

Acceptable Risk by Lynette Eason is a fantastic, edge of your seat military suspense. I loved Sarah and Gavin. Both were outstanding characters. The romance was subtle but there. I loved the setting.. Ms. Eason does a fantastic job of weaving faith through her story. I will never hesitate to buy a book by Ms. Eason, she never fails to engage my mind.

I've read several books by Lynette Eason and have enjoyed them all. Her books are easy to follow and very fast paced. Many times I had to stop reading and didn't want to. I highly recommend this book and anything else that she's written.

Once again, Lynette Eason knocks it out of the park! There is a reason I want to read every one of her books. The suspense is killer, the characters are strong, and the romance feels "real".

Sarah Denning is an Army journalist in the Middle East. When her convoy is attacked and she is taken hostage, former Army Ranger Gavin Black is tasked by Sarah's father - the General - with her extraction. His security business employs the best of the best, and Gavin is at the top of the chain.

Brought back to the States to heal, Sarah is irate to discover that she has received a psychiatric discharge from the Army, instigated by her father. The only thing keeping her from storming into his office and demanding he have her reinstated is her younger brother's suicide. What could possibly have caused her brother to swing so drastically from happy back to despondent in the course of hours? When an investigation turns up even more suicides, all from the same unit her brother served in, Sarah's investigative mind is piqued.

Hired by Sarah's father to serve as her secret bodyguard, Gavin's concern turns to conviction as Sarah's life appears to be in more and more jeopardy. Can he keep her safe, while keeping his heart locked away from the one woman he ever thought he could love?

This book careens around so many deadly twists that I was sure each "next one" would be Gavin or Sarah's last. Readers who love suspense will love this follow-up to Collateral Damage, and some of the characters from that one make an appearance here. I'm looking forward, with bated breath, to book 3, Active Defense, due out in 2021.

Wow wow wow. This book is fantastic! Nonstop action. Great characters. Better than great, actually. I stayed up way too late to finish this. There is only one thing I would change, and that’s all the animosity between the main character and her dad; that was a bit cliche’. Everything else was superb.
