Sarah Denning is a military journalist with the Army in the Middle East when her convoy is attacked and she's taken hostage. When former Army Ranger Gavin Black is asked by his old unit commander--Sarah's imposing father--to plan an extremely risky rescue, he reluctantly agrees and successfully executes it.
Back in the US, Sarah is livid when she's discharged on a false psychiatric evaluation and vows to return to the Army. Until she learns of her brother's suicide. Unable to believe her brother would do such a thing, she puts her plans on hold and enlists Gavin to help her discover the truth. What they uncover may be the biggest story of Sarah's career--if she can survive long enough to write it.
This book starts out with Sarah being held captive in the Middle East. She is rescued by Gavin Black, a former Army Ranger. He was hired by Sarah's father to rescue her. After she recovers from her injuries, she discovers that she was falsely discharged from the Army and that her father, the General, had a hand in it. Also, her life is still in danger. With the help Gavin and her brother Caleb, and FBI agent, they track down who is responsible.
This is a great mystery that you will want to read. Ms. Eason has written another great book.
I was given this book Revell Publishing via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
Sarah is in the Middle East as a military journalist with the Army when the convoy was ambushed and she is kidnapped. Her father a Lieutenant. calls in Gavin Black and his op team to rescue her. Evaluation when at home was false she thought and with her brother suicide she wants answer, and once again Gavin is called to help. Heavy theme dealing when one commit suicide. Can be read as a stand alone. The plot flowed and the main characters of Sarah and Gavin was good. Given ARC for my voluntary review and my honest opinion by Net Galley and Revell
Another good mystery by Lynette Eason! I wasn't quite sure how the General was going to be involved! Big Pharma strikes in this novel too trying to profit off our veterans. I am anxious for book #3!
I received an advanced reader copy of this book and am voluntarily reviewing it.
Hehe, I didn't mean to read this all in one night but I just couldn't put it down!!! The mystery was gripping and I had to know what was going on! I was suspicious about the cause of the deaths and was proven right. I didn't know the why or how, but I did get the what right.
Sarah was a compelling character. I loved her drive for the truth, how she was relentless in overcoming obstacles, and how she cared for people. Her bravery and tenacity were quite inspiring.
Gavin was not your usual male character but then, Sarah wasn't your typical female lead either. The reversed roles at the end were certainly unique :)
The things people do for money disgusts me. Not until the package did I suspect a certain person. What a sick individual.
Another great book from Lynette Eason. She never disappoints! I'm hoping she'll break her normal pattern of three books to a series because I want Caden's story!!! I really want to know more about him and the things he alluded to in this book.
This is the second book in a series but it stands alone pretty well, with just a couple of areas glossed over at the beginning. I find that the writing was easy to follow and strong throughout. The characters were interesting, and I loved the romance sparking between Gavin and Sarah but it was all overshadowed by the tension of suicide throughout the novel. To start on that point and carry it through made everything feel really dark and despite the resolution toward the end, I could definitely see the setup for another book.
Overall 3.5/5 stars.
Acceptable Risk is the second book in Lynette Eason's Danger Never Sleeps series, and I had a hard time putting it down once I started it. Just like the previous title in the series, this one is an action packed, nail biter that starts out with a bang and the suspense never really stops once it starts.
This romantic suspense novel will keep readers on the edge of their seats as they try and piece together all the components of the dastardly plot unfolding around them. In this particular title, we follow Sarah (an investigative journalist who has received an honorable discharge from the army), and Gavin (a former military operative who now runs his own security business). When Gavin is called in by Sarah's father to assist in her rescue, he finds himself getting dragged in deeper than he normally ever would be with his clients. The two can't deny that attraction is simmering between the two of them, but with both of their lives apparently on the line, they have no choice but to work together to get to the bottom of everything before tragedy strikes.
I appreciated the fact that Lynette Eason wrote these two titles in a way that you can really read them as standalones. Having read the first book, I appreciated already having been introduced to some of the main characters, but I don't feel you would miss out on too much if you chose to read them out of order. I'm always blown away by the sinister mystery plots that Lynette Eason is able to successfully pull off, and Acceptable Risk may be her most intense yet. New twists and turn spring up in almost every single chapter, and while I had pinpointed one of the evil masterminds fairly early in the story, I still ended up being surprised with how everything came to play out.
I often have a hard time reading about books that deal with suicide, but I thought Lynette Eason did a fantastic job of representing it both authentically, but also tastefully. I did want to mention that it plays a pretty big part of this book however, as I know for some it is a trigger, and I wouldn't want anyone going into this one unaware.
Overall, I really ended up enjoying this one. I thought the romance was well done, I enjoyed the writing and the way the mystery keeps building into something bigger and bigger. I enjoyed the secondary characters; especially Sarah's brother Caden, and I'm already looking forward to reading the next book in the series when it releases.
Definitely pick this one up if you're a fan of Christian romantic suspense.
Final Rating: 4/5.
Thanks so much to Revell for the opportunity to read and review this!
I voluntarily read and reviewed a complimentary advance reader copy of this novel from the publisher (Revell) via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I was not required to give a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
“Acceptable Risk” by Lynette Eason is one of her best yet. This author’s ability to weave a seamless, nonstop suspense novel is amazing, and I cannot recommend her books enough.
I was hooked from the moment I started it. There is a lot of action and twists that the reader won’t see coming. The romance is subtle and believable. The ending is satisfying. What more could a reader ask for except a good cup of coffee and a clear schedule to read it?! I cannot wait for the third installment.
Loved this book. This was terrific page turner. With a dash of romance. There was alot of healing that needed to be done between characters of this book. Very character driven with great action and suspense. Would recommend this book for anyone who loves romantic suspense.
When Sarah Denning, military journalist, is taken prisoner in Afghanistan, she knows that she may not survive this time. Her distress signal brings former Army Ranger Gavin Black and his team to her rescue. Against her wishes, her father, Lieutenant General Denning arranged for Sarah to be discharged from the military. While recovering from her injuries, Sarah is told that her younger brother, Dustin, committed suicide. She knows that Dustin would never have committed suicide and convinces Gavin to help her find the truth. When they have to outrun the men gunning for them, they know someone wants to silence them. What information does she have that someone is willing to kill for? A strong female character working to recover from trauma, find justice for her brother and make peace with her past. I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (by paytonpuppy)
Lynette Eason is such a wonderful writer. I will read anything that she writes.
Here is what I liked:
The military aspect of the story was so interesting and not a perspective I often see. The relationship between the two main characters was awesome. I love when relationships are full of mutual respect and they have each other’s back. Also, I love a good sibling relationship and this book definitely had that.
Here is what I didn’t like:
The father-daughter relationship was resolved a little too quickly. I also don’t think this was as unputdownable as her first book, but I would still recommend this series.
Lynette Eason gets me everytime. Her books are always intense and keep me on the edge of my seat.
These characters were so interesting and relatable, and they complimented each other well. Their chemistry jumped off the page.
I would recommend this book to anyone.
Acceptable Risk should come with a warning label. “You might lose sleep when you can’t put this book down.” This story had me hooked from start to finish, with intriguing characters and a complex, action-packed plot.
This is book two in the Danger Never Sleeps series, but can definitely be read as a stand alone. Sarah Denning is a military journalist who gets discharged and sent state side after being injured during a kidnapping. Gavin Black is put in charge of her security, even though she doesn’t know her overbearing father arranged it. But Sarah stumbles headfirst into danger through a variety of circumstances. She meets a strange and disturbed woman in the hospital who disappears. Her brother commits suicide but the facts surrounding it don’t add up. And then several attempts are made on her life. It all adds up to one intense and suspense-filled novel.
Sarah’s strength shines through the story as she fights for justice for her brother and others. The plot twists are endless and the bad guys are pure evil. Gavin realizes his place isn’t “knight in shining armor” and wrestles with how to protect Sarah but give her the freedom she craves.
All suspense fans should move Acceptable Risk to the number one spot on your TBR lists. You won’t want to miss this.
Overall: 5 stars (I loved it, couldn’t put it down)
Suspense: 5 stars (Non-stop edge-of-your-seat suspense from start to finish)
I received an ebook review copy of this book through NetGalley. All opinions expressed in this review are my own.
Acceptable Risk is a thrilling novel about deadly secrets, cover ups and the people willing to risk everything to expose the evil that lurks behind it all.
When Sarah Denning, an Army journalist, is kidnapped while in the Middle East, she is taken hostage along with a group of school girls. Luckily she has a security plan, and it isn’t long until her father sends a team, lead by ex-Army Ranger Gavin Black, to rescue them. What Sarah isn’t expecting is for her father to have her discharged from the Army with a false physc evaluation. It destroys their already tenuous relationship. But when Sarah witnesses something in the hospital and her brother dies under suspicious circumstances, Sarah vows to investigate and Gavin isn’t going to let her out of his sight while she puts herself in the crosshairs.
We first met Sarah in the first book in the Danger Never Sleeps series. You can, however, read the books as standalone titles, as each follows its own story of a strong and brave woman who is determined to do the right thing, despite the danger to themselves.
This is of course also a love story. Sarah and Gavin once had a short relationship that Sarah cut off. She is running from a past of which she is ashamed. Sarah is strong, has built a great career in the army as a journalist and has helped many people with her stories. Now, the story she is trying to uncover hits much closer to home and also involved her own safety and future. Gavin is ex-army and now works in a security company. Sarah’s father has employed him to look out for her, but he would stay close anyway. He want another chance to explore what might have grown between them if Sarah hadn’t run off. But she doesn’t know he’s been employed by her father to look out for her and he fears it might destroy the growing relationship between them. Gavin and Sarah’s feelings deepen as they work together. I also really enjoyed the dynamics between Sarah and her brother, and of course the tension between Sarah and her father. There is a lot of healing and hurt to work through and the tension builds around this as the life-threatening situations get more dangerous.
I must warn readers of the many times suicide is referenced in this book. Means is described in details multiple times, and the first chapter was a bit of a shock. It is necessary for the plot and not gratuitous, but readers do need to be warned, as it is upsetting.
I’m looking forward to reading the next book in this series, which I am sure is set to follow another of Sarah’s friends as they confront corruption and danger. There are a few threads hinted at in the book that are not followed up, so I am guessing one of these might feature in the next book.

Wow, I highly appreciate this series from Lynette Eason!
From the view of a Veteran's daughter this series is so sad but so needed!
What I appreciate about this series is that Eason is showing the darker side of the military and yet she is still showing them the respect that our military should be shown.
Suicide is a very hard subject especially veterans' suicide for me, and in Acceptable Risk the topic is handled in well for dealing with the topics it does.
Sarah's growth of character was done in a natural way without any force in the writing style.
Gavin's side of the story I enjoyed though at first I didn't like him too much but after a while he showed that he was growing.
If you like suspense I hope you will get a copy of Acceptable Risk by Lynette Eason!
Note: There is mention of past sins such as sleeping with guys, and there is a mention of a professor who is buying As with sex. He is sent to jail though.

Acceptable Risk was written by Lynette Eason and is book two in the Danger Never Sleeps series. It is not necessary to have read book one in order to read book two.
Summary: After a traumatic hostage situation, military reporter Sarah Denning has been unwilling shipped back to the United States and discharged from the Army.
Recovering from her injuries, she is devastated to learn of her brother’s suicide. The investigative reporter in her won’t let go until she finds out what really happened. Did her brother really commit suicide-and why?
The farther she digs, the more danger she finds.
Will former Army Ranger Gavin Black be able to help her solve the mystery-before they both end up dead?
My Thoughts: I liked this book. It is a good action/adventure book, has an interesting plot with plenty of twists and turns, and I am enjoying this series as a whole.
I did feel like there were some pretty striking similarities between the two books in certain things that happened, locations, etc. but it was still a fun and entertaining read, and I would recommend it.
I would like to thank Revell for providing me with a free digital copy of this book in exchange for my review. Thank you!
I really enjoyed “Acceptable Risk” by Lynette Eason. This is the 2nd book in the Danger Never Sleeps series.
This book follows Sarah and Gavin. Two soldiers who have suffered from PSTD and also a strange mystery involving them. These characters, along with the other are very well developed. This was a book that I had a very hard time putting down!
Lynette Eason always delivers a good, suspenseful novel that catches you from the beginning and throughout the whole book! She is one of my favorites. I highly recommend this book. It is a good, clean, romantic suspense novel.
I received this book from the publisher through NetGalley for my honest opinion.
Lynette Eason does it again! What a great action packed novel! From remarkable characters to a dynamic plot, the story kept my attention and didn't let go until the final conclusion. Eason delivers exactly what fans of a suspense with a hint of romance want in a novel. I love how her novels lean more toward the suspense side than the romance side. There are some authors who layer on the romance a little more, and I tend to not enjoy those novels as much. But not Eason. Acceptable Risk is a fast paced action novel with plenty of moments of grasping of what is going to happen next as I flew through the pages. I can't wait to read the third book in this series.
I received a complimentary copy of Acceptable Risk by Lynette Eason from Revell Publishing, but the opinions stated are all my own.
'His brain was already in combat mode, that zone where everything he did was geared for survival and in protection of the woman sitting beside him.'
I am seriously loving this series by Lynette Eason. When military journalist Sarah Denning is taken hostage overseas, her general father asks former Army Ranger Gavin Black to head up the rescue effort, an extremely dangerous mission. But it works and Sarah is back home in the US but she faces more serious issues now, including a deadly plan. Sarah and Gavin must work together to uncover the truth-- if they can manage to stay alive to do so.
Eason hits the ground running and the action and suspense just ratchet up from the first paragraph on, racing toward an exciting and exhilarating ending. Well done! Highly recommended.
*My thanks to Revell Publishing for a copy of this book via Net Galley. The opinion in this review is completely my own.
Wow! Talk about a page turner! Right from the very first page, I absolutely could not put this one down. Lynette Eason never disappoints, so I always know I'm in for a treat when I sit down to read one of her books... but this one might just be my favorite one yet!
Acceptable Risk is book number two in the Danger Never Sleeps series. While I would highly recommend reading the first book as well, they can both be read as standalones. While those who have read the first book will notice a few familiar names, I didn't feel like a ton of spoilers were given if you chose to read them out of order, and you certainly won't be lost on this one either.
In Acceptable Risk, we get to know Sarah and Gavin. After surviving a kidnapping in the Middle East and being rescued by Gavin, she finds herself back in the US, discharged from the Army under false psychiatric evaluation. Overheard conversations, mysterious disappearances and her brother's rather unusual suicide lead us on a page turning suspense adventure that I for one couldn't put down. It read much like a good conspiracy theory... but one that happened to be true. Add in a good dash of romance, and this truly was an absolutely fantastic read.
This book does deal extensively with suicide as a primary focus (particularly veteran suicide and PTSD), and while I think these are very important topics, it should be noted as I know these can be triggering for many.
Overall, this was a great read. I cannot wait to see what happens next!
**I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for consideration. All thoughts are 100% my own.
Acceptable Risk by Lynette Eason
Drug Trials are they an acceptable risk for humans? Would you be willing to do one and be that human guinea pig? I personally have a medial disability and in knowing that I have no cure and the odds for ever having one is slim to none, I would probably take my chances at trying any that ever come my one knowing that the outcome could put me in a worse position or possible death, but my prognosis now is not all that great either for the future. However, in the book, what the people did are even more unforgivable because it was for greed. They committed outright murder for what they claimed in the name of science, but it was for greenback.
Sarah had a tumultuous relationship with her Army General father because of what she thought was the lack of love and empathy on her dads side for her mothers death. Her father thought his daughter had a death wish by signing up for every combat investigative tour in Afghanistan and he wanted her out of there so he used money and coercion to get her discharged. Her old flame Gavin still had the hots for her and refused to leave her side wanted to make sure that whoever was trying to kill the General was not trying to use her to get at him by harming her.Her one brother committed suicide and it freaked the family out because it shocked them because the sister had no clue he was having suicidal issues. The father knew he was having some problems and that he had been having some issues in the past with depression, but nothing to this degree. The brother who was the most familiar with the situation was caught totally unawares and was just flummoxed about the suicide. There was so many subplots in this but in the end they were all tied together and it all made sense in the end but that would be giving up a spoiler.
I thought at first this was a action adventure book, but it ended up being more of a drama with action within the drama but overall the book was a very good read, but at times it was slow and the author could have picked up the pace or added romance to add zing maybe to tone down the drama or kick up the action a little because it lagged at times. Other than that the characters of Sarah and Gavin were good, I wish the brother Caden could have been spiced up little maybe that is where it could have zipped up the storyline. Is part seemed to be dulled and he was like just thrown in as doing menial paperwork jobs and no actual performance.
