I don't read enough medieval romance, so this was a refreshing change from the usual Regencies. Nicola Davidson is a staunch advocate of historical kink and queerness and making sure that people know that yes, both actually existed in the past, and from the dedication on, she makes that clear in this novella. Janet is my favourite of this FFM trio -- a femdom badass who's tough and smart but can be vulnerable too. I felt that Marjorie's awakening from shy, sheltered virgin to flirty temptress was a bit too quick, but the pace of the story also seemed to really speed up near the end, so that could be why. Super steamy and fun.
Thanks to NetGalley and Entangled for the ARC.
I enjoyed this, with one big caveat. It's the first FFM historical I've read in memory, at least, and it's full of everything I appreciate about Davidson's writing. I also really savored the different setting; I haven't read a medieval-set romance from her and it was a nice change of pace from the glut of Regencies I've been reading. The characters felt very distinct and memorable, and I really liked the solid queer rep in this book. My only strong wish was that it had been longer! I would have loved more, especially in getting to know the main trio and really delving deep into their shared dynamic, because it felt like they didn't get to really build their relationship before lots of wild shenanigans were happening to throw a wrench into their circumstances. As such: a bunch of sexy love scenes, but I wanted a little more groundwork on the page via spending more time with these characters and growing the romance.
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
My skin has been cleared and my crops have been watered thanks to this book. It's very briskly paced, with very mildly kinky queer sex throughout, and it's overall a delight. Great depictions of consent, overall just fun and warm and sexy. It would be a great recommendation for a book that might be able to shake someone out of a reading slump.
A fun historical escape! I'm always on the lookout for historical romances set somewhere and somewhen that's not 19th-century England, and Nicola Davidson's Tudor-era books are a fun departure. This was a bit more in-depth than One Forbidden Knight or His Forbidden Lady, and I enjoyed getting to know the characters and setting better. There's some really interesting material in here about Scottish/English politics and court life, too, and Davidson deals sensitively with issues like infertility. The romance itself is quite spicy, the characters likeable (I particularly enjoy the moments of teasing and humor) and I'll be very happy to read the next volume!
Goddam did I need this book. I’m a Nicola Davidson stan so honestly I don’t think I could dislike one of her books but this one came at the perfect time for me. The pandemic has made it extremely difficult to read ANYTHING but I absolutely devoured this.
Since I follow the author on social media I knew this book was coming and when I saw it pop up on Netgalley I one clicked and crossed my fingers so hard hoping the galley gods would hear my prayers!
The setting is unique for a historical erotic romance, early 1500s Scotland and our three character could not be more different from each other but we all know opposites attract. The sex scenes were so incredibly hot and Davidson has such skill writing her characters. I can honestly say I’ve never read a historical romance set in this era with a triad and this triad is mmf!
Read it if you love romance, hot sex, a form mistress of the king, a Virgin raised in a convent, and a warrior who’s tongue tied around these lovely ladies. Oh and Scotland.
This was a really good romance. I love historical romance and the sex scenes were very good. Enjoyed this author!

I only recently discovered Nicola’s books and I am glad that I did because this was everything I didn’t know that I needed!
First and foremost, if you’re looking for steamy, steamy smut that is stock full of romance, consent and heat, definitely read this!
I loved the relationship between the three characters from the very beginning. I like that they each have their own strengths that add to their relationship but their weaknesses also are very important and discussed and respected. Lachlan’s disability and his insecurities surrounding it and how the ladies soothed him and comforted him and made him feel comfortable enough to speak at length, no matter how long or difficult it was, was incredible to read and it honestly had me tearing up. Janet’s sadness about not being able to bear children and how they all dealt with that too had me on the edge of tears, especially because that its close to home for me.
I also love the queer rep in this as someone who is queer myself. I always love seeing it represented!
Another big thing for me was consent. Nicola always makes sure that consent is given and talked about in her books and I’m always grateful for it. It is definitely something that needs to be present and she always delivers.
Overall, I loved every second of this and I cannot wait for everything else she writes!

This was my first Nicola Davidson book, although I had heard good things about her books in the past. I fell in love with the cover of this book and as this quarantine has made me wanter hotter books, I decided to try Scandalous Passions.
While I enjoyed the writing and the sex scenes were absolutely what I was looking for, I did not buy that all three were in love by the end of the book. In list? Definitely, but not love. Most of the time they spent together was when they were taking part in Marjorie’s lessons, so there was little time for emotions other than lust to develop.
This was so good! I was excited to read this FFM historical romance and I was not disappointed. Liked how Davidson always mentioned consent in this book between all three characters and it didn't seem awkwardly placed. Also liked all the representation in this book with plus size, bisexual, and speech disorder.
Can't wait for everybody else to read this, especially if you've been wanting to find a really good FFM romance to read.
