D. Megan Carpenter is back, troubled and as much trouble as she was in the first of the series. She's feisty, determined, efficient at takes no shit from fellow law enforcers. In fact, much of the time she's trying to outwit them as much as her perp. As for plotting, well, not much is new from Olsen here; it's more about the leading lady than anything else and to be frank she's starting to show some cracks.
I just had a sneaking suspicion that, in places, I was being written down to. Just don't tell anyone I am waiting for Carpenter's return.
Many Thanks to Netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.

This is the second in the Megan Carpenter series and this book does not stand alone. The mystery is solid and I love Megan’s character. I do continue to struggle with how her back story is told and the author once again leaves a big piece untold for another novel.

But the journey is enjoyable and in each book we can see a bit more of Megan’s character.

I was given a copy by NetGalley in exchange for an unbiased review.

This is the first book that I have read about her but hope to read the first one soon. In this book she is haunted by her past relationshiip with her mother and abusive father.. He relates evrything toher psersonal experiences when she was younger. She never had a good relaltionship or trustd either parent. Whentrying to sove the case of several murdered womanwho were also abused she continually reflects back onher past. It seems that she has trouble separating herself fromher victoms. Nevertheless she does find the killer who has just kidnapped her. Her is going to kill her but she takes out her kiddengun and shoots him several times. I thought she didnt need tobe that violeent but none of the other policemen or her partner mentioned it.

An excellent follow up to the series. The main plot could be read as a stand-alone but to understand the main character one needs to read the previous book. The individual characters are well built and the distinctions are drawn out clearly. There are a few loose threads, only pertaining to the sub plots. A very good read. Don’t miss it.

A fantastic addition to the Detective Megan Carpenter series. Gregg Olsen writes with accomplished skill and insurmountable brilliance. The plot is intriguing and decisively formidable. Olsen pairs an engaging, turbulent cast of characters together in a hunt for a serial killer. A wild ride the whole way through! Absolutely loved it, cannot wait for the next book!

Thank you to #NetGalley for the ARC of #WatersEdge which was read and reviewed voluntarily by @wayward_readers

Thank you NetGalley for the ARC of Water’s Edge by Gregg Olsen that I read and reviewed.
What can I say about such a flawed character as the lead character in this book that I have had no choice but to fall in love with in these last two books by Olsen. She is so complex and tough yet deep down she yearns for her brother’s love and deep down to even figure herself out. Megan is just one of those female leads that you cheer for in every book because you have no clue what she is going to do and in this book she did not disappoint.
I loved this book from start to finish. I kept changing my mind about who the killer was and was a bit surprised and sad about how the book ended. I liked how Megan’s character grew and how it is set up for the next book and I can’t wait to see how she handles what comes next in her life.
Needless to say, Water’s Edge gets five out of five stars from me.

"Water's Eage" is a well written novel. I realy enjoyed reading it.
The story features Megan Carpenter, a Detective in a small town. Meghan is conducting a difficult investigation of a série of murders involvig the same profile of women. For four years a serial killer is eliminating young women who are experiencing difficulties and lack of social ties. It's not easy for Megan because the young women remind her of difficult moments in her past life. However this reinforces her determination to find the killer using what she learned in her past. Actually Megan is the daughter of a serial killer and deeply harmed as a result of her traumatic childhood.

The characters are well designed and Megan, the main character, is likeable and reliable.. I also liked Ronnie, the secondary character and the way she was interacting with Megan. This book is fast faced and constantly going in various directions. The author made a great job giving the reader details on places and the characters involved in the story as well as by guiding them towards wrong leads during the investigation.

I highly recommend this book.

This just wasn’t my type of book. It was fast paced enough but I found that I didn’t particularly like the main character, which can be a problem. I found some of the backstory on the main character to be very far-fetched and unappealing. I can see how this book would appeal to a lot of people it just didn’t do it for me.

Water's Edge is the second installment in author Gregg Olsen's Detective Megan Carpenter series. The author returns to Jefferson County, Washington for this follow up to Snow Creek. So, from the outset, let me say that this story actually follows several storylines. One storyline is that someone knows who Megan Carpenter was before she was a cop. Someone is apparently stalking her and sending her creepy messages about knowing what she did last summer. Oops! Sorry, I meant to say they know what she did years ago that readers are now seeing thru flashbacks.

I'm eager to discover who this stalker is once and for all. I don't want this creepy stalker to remain behind the scenes as a way to keep the readers coming back for more. Now that - that is out of the way, Megan ends up with a partner in this installment. Reserve Deputy Ronnie Marsh is a female cop making her rounds before she ends up with a permanent assignment. So far, she's rotated through the morgue, and Marine Patrol under a Captain they call Marvel. Megan and Ronnie are put on the mystery of a floater found off Marrowstone Island.

Megan likes to work alone, but Ronnie is perhaps someone she can actually call a friend. Like everything else in this series, the locations are real. As Megan and Ronnie uncover the identity of the murdered victim, Megan soon makes a chilling link between Leann’s brutal killing and the unsolved murder cases of two other women – all redheads with the same marks on their bodies, the same symbol carvings found at the crime scenes, and most shockingly, all had been pregnant.

In fact, each women has very familiar characteristics, including Red Hair, and each have the same build as Ronnie. Could Ronnie be next? The third part of this story really unravels Megan's past and who she was and what she did that sent her running and leaving her only brother Hayden behind to be raised by foster parents. Something she has regretted every day. Hayden has refused any contact with Megan. He's spent years in the military, but he suddenly appears at the very end of this story. I'm very curious as to how the author is going to resolve that issue.

Megan's past is one that is truly dark but I truly believe those involved had what happened to them coming and much, much, much more. I could tell you why I said that but I think it would spoil the reason why she choose to be a cop and how she ended up surviving and being helped by Sheriff Gray. For someone who claims to have near perfect memory, I'm curious as to whom this stalker could be. Megan is still coping with secrets from her childhood when she had a different name. Can she cope with her memories and still solve a murder?

While working the case, Megan makes her way through the tapes given to her by her college therapist, Dr. Karen Albright, finding out more about herself and why she sees the world the way she does. I think having the types around also gives readers a deeper understanding into a young women who did some bad things in order to protect herself and maybe it was also about revenge as well. She's very good at getting revenge on those who get in her way. One of the open questions is Megan's non-existent relationship with her mother. I think this needs to be addressed soon, especially with Hayden back in the picture. The author does a great job of worldbuilding and gives the reader a vivid sense of the place and people. You can actually research this area and find that every location the author mentions, actually exists.

Another fantastic read by Gregg Olsen.
Engaging and entertaining is the second book of the Detective Megan Carpenter series. One the hunt with a very intriguing case, the deeply flawed heroine does not disappoint in this story.
Definitely a little darker than some police procedurals on the market today.
But if you are a fan of the writer this book does not disappoint.
I am ready to read the next chapter in this series, I do enjoy it so.
Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy of the book .

Detective Megan Carpenter is no ordinary policewoman. She is the daughter of a serial killer and deeply flawed as a result of her traumatic childhood, always on the move with her mother and brother. She mostly copes by listening to tapes from thirteen years of sessions with her psychologist. She's smart and intuitive with a photographic memory and she likes to work alone. However, she's been given a trainee detective to tag along with her, Ronnie Marsh, a fresh faced young woman who never stops talking. On her first day they are called out to view the body of a badly battered young woman found on the coast. Megan has a bad feeling that the woman is not the first victim of this particular killer and soon she has found two similar previous cases in nearby counties.

The novel moves at a fast pace as Megan and Ronnie review the evidence from all the cases, following up with witnesses and finding the common threads. The suspense is gripping and addictive with an added hint of danger from the chilling emails Megan receives from a stalker. Her past life always shadows her and although she has difficulty getting close to people, she finds herself warming to Ronnie and actually enjoying having a partner. She is also taking tentative steps towards a relationship with a man she met in her previous case. Even though she is flawed with a big chip on her shoulder and a dangerous history she keeps hidden, Megan is a very likeable character, capable of personal growth, making an excellent detective with her insightful observation of people and situations.

I'd like to thank NetGalley, the publishers and the author of this book for giving me the opportunity to read this arc in exchange for my honest review.

Water's Edge is the second book in Olsen's Megan Carpenter series. I was delighted to have been given the chance to read this arc as I appreciate and enjoy reading Olsen's work.

Overall the story was pretty good. The case and twists up until the end were interesting and kept me on my toes wanting to read more. I liked the addition of Ronnie and the ending when Megan's brother arrived unexpectedly.
After reading his book Run years ago I was especially delighted because Hayden hasn't made a return until the ending of this book so I'm definitely interested to read more knowing there might be a higher chance of reading about their reunion.

Now, I did have a few issues with the story although these could just be completely personal thoughts. After reading the first book of this series I had said in my review that I wasn't sure whether I would have enjoyed the novel more if I hadn't have read 'Run'. I still stand by this statement.

The video recordings I feel are starting to become more repetitive and somewhat unneeded in the story. For me, any time there was a scene with Megan listening to a recording or having a flashback back her life as Rylee, I was taken out of the story completely and it made it harder for me to return to the crime plot. I find that it just breaks the pacing of the story.

As I said, I really do appreciate Olsen's work, I've been a fan of every book I've read of his but not so much this series. It's still good and something I would recommend but not before some other works of Olsen.

After reading the last book I was personally conflicted on whether I would be interested in reading any books that followed it. I decided to give it another chance and honestly, I enjoyed it as much as the second but it still held the same flaws.

I am interested to read more about Megan in future books, and hopefully Hayden too, but I do think that the recordings could be dialled down because most of the time, although it is important to Megan, it's feeding the reader repetitive information and lots of details that are given so quickly it disrupts the story's pattern.

The Waters Edge by Gregg Olsen
I give this book 4 stars
The young woman’s body is lying with her arms stretched out to each side. Her lips slightly parted. Her face untouched by injury and her hair spread around her head like a fan. A redhead. Just like the others.
This is the 2nd book in the Detective Megan Carter series and l read it as a standalone, although will now be reading Snow Creek to!
I loved the main character Megan and found her believable with her little quirks and attitude and while reading you hear her listen to tapes and realise theres a 2nd story unfolding about her past that is equally compelling..
An engaging action packed crime thriller that kept me turning the pages and guessing right to the end.
I highly recommend this book and will be looking out with anticipation for book 3
Thanks to Netgalley, the publishers and the author for a chance to read this

Waters Edge. Gregg Olsen

This is the second book in the Detective Megan Carpenter series, and having just read the first, Snow Creek, I can say I thoroughly enjoyed it. The problem is I don’t think it would read so well as a stand-alone story. A lot of the plot is a continued thread from the first book, and is Megan’s back story told in back-flashes or from Megan listening to recordings that were made when she was in therapy.

She was in therapy because Megan, hasn’t always been Megan. It’s an identity she has adopted because of the infamy of her previous self.

Her back story is full of Kidnap, subterfuge, and murders, lots of murders

With all of this the main crime in the story almost plays second fiddle, which is a shame because the plot, and the present day characters are really good.

Working as a Detective in a sleepy town, just outside Seattle Megan enjoys a certain anonymity but there is one person that knows all about her past, her boss the Sheriff, he likes her and is prepared to give her the lead in most cases, so when a body is found in a secluded cove Megan is sent to begin the investigation, but she has to take the “Barbie Doll” new reserve deputy, Ronnie, with her.

At first Megan doesn’t like Ronnie but she slowly starts to grow on her and the pair make quite the team, not so much good-cop-bad-cop more, good-hard-nosed-cop, and young-flutter-your-eyelids cop.

The dead body leads to a murder investigation which triggered more memories for Megan and at times she becomes unfocused, which nearly ends in tragic consequences.

The story is great, the book is great, the series is going to be brilliant.

I started by saying it does not work as a stand-alone story, I stick by that, but only because I think the reader would be missing out by not reading the first in the series.

This is the second book to feature Detective Megan Carpenter, set in Washington State. When a body is discovered, Megan is sent to investigate, along with a new partner, Deputy Ronnie Marsh. I like the character of Megan, she has flaws but is very likeable. The author has vividly described the people and the places, the book is fast paced and kept me interested. I loved the ending and look forward to the next in the series. I would recommend this book. Thanks to Net Galley for my ARC.

I love Megan Carpenter!! In Water's Edge by Gregg Olsen, Megan is thrust into another mystery... however, much to her chagrin, she also has a reserve deputy, Ronnie Marsh, by her side throughout it... and Megan debates throughout the novel whether this is a good or bad thing. Megan is tough, flawed, so so so smart, and wickedly funny. The mystery is solid and strong... going through scenic Washington and working a multi-jurisdictional case, Megan, Ronnie, and a deep supporting cast know they need to find some answers soon. It's a wonderful book that I could not put down. And, where the book ends... I cannot wait to see where Mr. Olsen picks up with Megan's tale. Thank you!

Book 2 in the Megan Carpenter Series.
Good police procedural book. Megan has a lot in her past and likes to work alone but ends up with a partner. A serial killer is killing women, which reminds Megan of her past in many ways. Good charcters. Looking forward to another one in this series.
Thanks to netgalley, Gregg Olsen and the publisher for the arc in exchange for my honest review.

This is a well written book that will keep you on the edge of your seat. It was a little to dark and intense for my taste, but I made it through the book. Thank you Bookouture via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
