This story alternates points of view between Beth and Danielle
.
Beth is a therapist whose life is falling apart. Her husband had an affair and is now leaving her alone with her young son. She can’t afford her mortgage on her own, so she also stands to lose her home. During the midst of her turmoil, she takes on a new therapy client, Danielle.

Beth begins to grow suspicious of Danielle’s intentions and eventually becomes convinced she is the woman that her husband had an affair with
.
Each woman is suspicious of the other and it becomes a chess match. .
Who will have the best strategy?
.
This one kept me guessing and entertained. I wasn’t sure who to trust until the very end. .
The story is told from the points of view of Beth (therapist) and Danielle (lawyer), with Danielle just starting to see Beth for counseling. As the story unravels a little more, we learn that Beth and Danielle aren’t exactly strangers. The problem is, Beth isn’t quite sure who Danielle is, and Danielle is quite upset with some of the things she thinks Beth did. Without giving too much away, I’d say the book description was a bit misleading. There’s some infidelity and quite a bit of suspicious activity, but it’s not exactly what you think. That’s the fun of the book, because you definitely want to keep reading to find out who did what and who’s to blame. A very fun, twisty book for sure!
Note: Special thanks to the publisher and NetGalley for allowing me to read this copy in exchange for an honest review.
Beth's life is starting to fall apart after her husband decides to leave her, she is barely keeping it together when Danielle arrives on her doorstep for therapy. Immediately Beth is suspicious of Danielle, especially when weird things start happening around the house after her visits. However, what Beth doesn't know is that their lives are connected in more ways than one. Will she discover the truth before it's too late?
After the first chapter I was already gripped by this. This is super fast paced and jumps between Beth and Danielle's perspective. The plot builds and builds throughout so you're desperate to find out how the two women are linked. As soon as you think you've worked it out, something will happen that completely surprises you. I also really liked how both characters were not very likable and you found yourself unable to trust either of them.
I gave this three stars just because I thought the ending was slightly predictable and little bit rushed. A great suspenseful read!
Thank you to Netgalley and Bookouture for providing me with a copy.
Beth is broken when her partner, Richard leaves her. Now a single mum she is trying to get her counselling practice started and her first client is Danielle.
Danielle is mysterious, angry and confused. Her husband, Peter, is not the man she married and she wants a baby but he doesn’t because of her anger issues. Soon the two women’s world will collide in the most painful way.
With Ruth’s books there is always a gripping intensity and this was no different. Loved it! Thank you to netgalley and the publishers for this arc in exchange for my honest review.
I enjoyed this thriller okay, but I found it pretty boring overall. Definitely not the worst thing I’ve ever read, but I thought it was generic at best. I didn’t get attached to any of the characters and i wish the twists had been more exciting.
With thanks to Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC.
Beth is in her 40's with a 4 year old son, her boyfriend has been cheating on her and leaves them.
She now has the added pressure of looking after her son on her own, she's trying to come to grips with this new reality when Richard, the ex, drops another bombshell. "I'm selling the house."
Pressure on top of pressure...
Beth is a marriage councilor and one of her current clients is Danielle, a succesful lawer who has horrific facial burns.
Both women have pressure building in their lives, both women have secrets, big secrets.
Ruth Heald can certainly tell a story, a gripping, tense, nervous story.
The plot rolls along, thickens, then produces some great reveals in the final third.
An unusual and expertly told story.
Concentrating on the dysfunctional relationship between a counsellor and her client, I Know Your Secret certainly keeps you on your toes!
Beth (the counsellor) and Danielle (her client) each have a troubled past that they keep hidden. Beth's past put her onto her chosen career path, desperate to help others that may have felt like she once had. Danielle's past, has left her angry and needing control. They meet in a professional manner, but their relationship soon spirals out of control. This was not a chance meeting, Danielle has planned it all, Beth may not recognize her but Danielle intends to make Beth pay..
This story was packed full of betrayal, lies and manipulation and was a very addictive read. The author keeps you second guessing all the way through to the end. The storyline was strong and escalated quickly. I liked how each chapter switched between the two women so that each side of the story was told through their own perspectives and I was not expecting the ending to go down quite like it did, which is always a bonus! Loved it! Couldn't put it down.
Lies. Obsession. And of course secrets of all kinds. One woman is a therapist. The other a lawyer. Both are having issues with their marriage. The lawyer is seeing the therapist for marriage counseling and start to become friends because their husbands also had affairs. Both husbands have different opinions of their marriage after the affairs but that's not all to the story; it is so much more complex!
The premise gave you just enough and geez was this story effed up! O M G! I love the two alternate points of view between Beth and Danielle, it just made this story even more complex. When I started to figure this out I was like "Holy crap, that's nuts." There are several twists and turns and surprises and I thought I had the end figured out; I was way wrong and so glad.
Easily one of the best thrillers I have read since "Little Secrets" and "the New Husband." I really enjoyed this book and it is creepy AF and highly recommend it as a chilling thrilling read.
Thanks to Netgalley, Ruth Heald and Bookouture for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I received an ebook Advanced Readers Copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. I would like to thank the author, publisher and net Galley for the opportunity to read and review this book.
And I really do mean that, I do really appreciate the authors and publishers, working with Net Galley, allowing me a chance to read and review these books. Which makes it really hard when I really, really don't like the book, And that's the case here, sadly.
With the description of the book and all of the high star reviews of the book, and some of the reviews I scanned before requesting the book, I thought I was in for a good white-knuckle-grip/bruise my kindle book ride. After the first few chapters, I thought I'd downloaded the wrong book, looked it all up and re-loaded the book. But I didn't have the wrong book - it just wasn't "that book" for me.
To be honest, I spent a few years reading nothing but psychological thrillers like this book. And after a while, they all melt together in my mind. There are very few differences from one to the other a lot of the time, so much so that I can't really recall details of one versus the other later on. I looked it up, and I haven't read anything by this author before, but for me, this book read like every single other book of the genre. It was slow going, boring in parts, and oh! The complaints! Oh my goodness the complaining! It drove me out of my mind. I'm also not a fan of the whole set up with 2 POV's switching every few pages. This annoys me - just about the time I get into 'ok, this is this character' we switch. I understand both characters are supposed to have a lot of similarities for the story line, but they are SO similar at points, I'd forgotten which I was reading.
I'm really sorry to rate this book so low. I feel bad about that. But it's just really not the book for me. I have read a few psychological thrillers that were really exciting and page turners, so I don't hate on all of the genre, and from the description, I'd expected this to be one of the good ones.
If you don't read lots of thrillers of this sort, you'd probably enjoy the book. If this sort of book is your regular book diet - maybe not so much. I'm rating this book 2 out of 5 stars, which for me is "it was ok".
AWESOME!!!!! WOW, WOW, WOW, Why did this book have to end? From beginning to the end so many twists and turns, such a great read. I couldn’t get enough of it! Loved I Know Your Secret! Keep writing Ruth Heald. Thank you Bookouture and Net Galley for an early release of this phenomenal book.
This was my first Heald book and definitely won't be my last. The writing was fluid and kept my interest. The whole book was a quick easy read. I was drawn in early with the premise and cover.... but the flow and characters are what kept my interest. Who is hiding more Beth or Danielle? Which one is the bad guy? I found myself liking both characters a ton. I wanted to know the ending and the book kept me up late at night to finish. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because I did figure out the twist. I recommend this book and plan to look for more Heald books in the future.
I absolutely loved this book. 5 out of 5 stars. I'm pretty good at guessing the ending but this keep me guessing. I like how it showed both characters point of view. I will be checking out the rest of her books.
2.5 stars, rounded down.
I feel like middle of the road reviews are the hardest to write. There was nothing wrong with this book, but also nothing super riveting. It was just a book I read.
I had high hopes about this book. I mean it was marketed "an utterly gripping, addictive and shocking read about the dark secrets we’re ashamed to admit, and the lengths people go to for revenge."
Secrets? Revenge? Craziness? Count me IN!
But not a whole lot happened...until everything happened all at once in the last 40 pages or so of the book. The first 75% of the book, I was just reading about two women and their lives, and there was so much overlap of who they were as characters, it felt like I was just reading about one woman really. There were hardly any discernible characteristics of the two women, other than one had burns on her face and other didn't.
I also just didn't like any of the characters, which is fine, if the story is amazing. But for me, this book wasn't that.
So not a whole lot happens the first 75% of the book but, THEN, all of a sudden the last 25% of the book, everything happens. However, there was no real suspense, or build-up, and the end was fairly predictable.
I am hoping I will be in the minority for this one as the writing was very good. You can totally tell the author is very talented, this book just didn't do it for me.
A big thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC and wanting my honest opinion!
I Know Your Secret is an interesting read in most aspects.
This story is about Beth, a counselor who has a lot going on in her life. Her husband has recently left her, she found out (with some helpful photographs), that he was having an affair. She is now a single mother trying to manage her business and her young son Charlie. Beth is a bit of a mess, things are just not going her way. Beth takes on a new client and her new client is questionable right from the first session. You question the new client, Danielle’s behaviour constantly. Poor Beth is left wondering how her life has taken such a terrible turn and finds it very difficult to stay on the right side of things no matter what she does.
Although the story left me guessing, I didn’t have to guess too hard. I read it to the end just to see if I was right. I was. What I really struggled with was the characters. I did not like any of them, they were all awful. Beth was annoying, her husband was condescending and lacked any form of humanity and he treated Beth despicably. The client, Danielle, was a nutcase and her husband was even worse than Beth’s. Maybe they were supposed to be awful people. I am not sure and I’m still wondering. I just didn’t like them and I certainly couldn’t relate to any of them.
The premise of the story was interesting and it progressed well. I think the unfolding of the story is what I hung on to in order to finish this book. The way the story unfolds is interesting but the writing itself lacks something. I am not sure what, but I did struggle to stay engaged.
I don’t want to say this is an awful book. It’s not. It has an interesting plot that progresses at a decent pace and it ends in a pleasant way. It just lacks some things. It lacks those important elements that are needed to make a great story. It certainly lacks the elements needed to make this three star read a five star read.
“I know your secret” – ruth herald.
Beth is a marriage counsellor and it is ironical because her own marriage is falling apart. Danielle, a corporate lawyer, seeks for Beth’s help as her marriage is on rocks and her recent disfigurement has lowered her confidence – despite all this she still wants a baby. Both women have dirty little secrets and a past of grief and restiveness and they have crossed paths before. The past is about to come back and haunt them both and change their lives as they know it.
This book is easy to read, a well written psychological thriller. Both characters’ point of view is strongly written and the reader will be left debating who is the most truthful voice. I really loved that book is filled with creepy moments, plenty of tension, moments that sent chill down my spine and a couple of spooky situations. There are some of the revelations which are maybe predictable but definitely there are some shocking surprises. The book can be undoubtably described as “twisty” because of the piles of secrets, cover ups, major betrayals and a thirst for revenge and many more. The books as a steady pace and the author did a great job in tying up the loose ends with an intense climax.
one does feel for both woman at times, they suffer from mental health which the book touches on brilliantly and it shows how women have a bad habit of comparing themselves to other woman, bringing themselves down. This book deals with loss and paranoia.
I really enjoyed reading this book. Thanks to Net Galley and Bookouture for the Arc. this book will be available in stores from 10th June,2020. Go grab your copy!
Full of twists and absolutely gripping, I found it difficult to put it down. I stayed up late to uncover the secrets of this brilliant book! This was my first experience of Heald's excellent writing, but it certainly won't be the last.
Beth is a Counselor, a wife, about to be ex - wife, Richard, her husband is leaving her, and Mother, to five year old Charlie. She is a truly weak person to me, her husband cheats on her, she is so needy she keeps taking him back!? Too much for me, yes I have been married 37 years, no my husband never cheated, I married someone who I knew would never do that! Her true love Nick, is dead, so as a therapist, who goes to a therapist why can't she see that she is needy!? Does she really love Richard or just miss having someone in the house with her, someone to help her take care of Charlie? I found all of angst extremely annoying. It doesn't improve until the middle of the book.
The other main player is Danielle, a wife, a lawyer, an orphan, a want to be mother, except, she has issues! Apparently she has anger issues, isn't that why she is seeking therapy? Her husband Peter doesn't want children until she gets help, and maybe not even then. To me, they all needed therapy! Richard, a serial cheater, Beth who keeps thinking about a dead lover, her stays mired in self - pity, and Danielle who is full of repressed anger! It did get interesting for me until the end, which was a thriller ending.
I recommend! Thank you #Netgalley #Bookoutoure
Another author that manages to kidnap me and keep me prisoner between the pages of her book!
This story has to many twists and revelations that I did not know anymore whether I was coming or going.
In the beginning it seems like a normal story without a lot going on but little by little you see the twisted minds coming to the surface.
Who is for real and who is the most twisted of them all? When you believe one of them, a little bit later on you realise it was the wrong person to believe. So you start feeling sorry for the other one, but are they telling the truth or are they decieving you as well?
Who is genuine? Who is the culprit? Who is the one to feel sorry for and who is the one you have to blame?
The story was so captivating that I kept flipping the pages like there was no tomorrow! I loved it loved it loved it!
Those psychological thrillers make you realise that some crazy people do not only live on paper, but they live in our real world as well. I knock wood that I will never have to meet one in real life. I'm happy for them to remain locked up between the pages of those amazingly good books. 5 stars
Thank you, Ruth Heald and Bookouture
This book is written in alternating points of view between Beth and Danielle. Beth is a wife, a mother and a therapist. Danielle is a wife who is looking to have a baby but comes to Beth for marriage counseling. Beth lost the love of her life, Nick and has since built a life with Richard. Richard has admitted to having an affair and left. Now Beth is trying to rebuild as a single mother. Danielle has had an "accident" and several month later her husband, Peter asked for a separation. They are now back together.
There were parts of the story in the middle that I thought was a little redundant, not big parts of the story, but certain lines kept being repeated. But it didn't make me want to put the book down. I felt like I could read the story and thought I knew what the connection was, I was 1/2 right and pleasantly surprised.
This ARC was provided by the publisher via netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for a copy of I know your secret by Ruth Heald. I have read her previous book The Mothers mistake that I really enjoyed so, I was curious to read this.
Beth is a Marriage therapist, helping couples fix the wrongs in their marriage. But her marriage to Richard is falling an apart. They have a five-year-old son Charlie.
Beth has a new client Danielle who fears her husband Peter. She has also had scars and disfigurements after a fire when she was a teenage girl.
One the same day Richard tells Beth that he is leaving her. He already has a flat lined up. Not even wanting to talk about it. Their marriage has not been the same after Richard cheated on her. Beth is now left a single mother to look after Charlie and juggle her life with work. Coping with her marriage failure and not trying to bring her troubles onto her clients at work. She becomes obsessed with finding out who Richard had an affair with and her paranoia kicks in when she thinks that person is following her.
In the meantime, her appointments with Danielle get more personal. Something with Danielle is not quite right. Does Danielle have an ulterior motive?
The is another great read by Ruth Heald. It is one of them stories that keeps you guessing and guessing until all is revealed at the end. 4 stars from me.
