A great, feel-good romance. It begins with Sydney's unexpected and devastating heartbreak, as Nate, her longtime soulmate breaks up with her without explanation. Fast forward to the present day, where Sydney has moved on, has a child, and Nate is a famous songwriter and musician. What happened in between? We find out, all the while enjoying a strong story with relatable characters. Definitely one to recommend, especially for readers who enjoy Elin Hilderbrand's books.
I received an ARC of The House on Firefly Beach from NetGalley and Bookouture for my honest review.
The House On Firefly Beach is the second book from Jenny Hale in her Firefly Beach series.
Sydney and Nate grew up together and they thought they made plans together until the day Nate just left with no explanation to Sydney.
Sydney went on to marry and had a son Robby. The marriage failed and she went on in her life but always had Nate in her heart.
Nate returns to her life and he knows he needs to explain why he left.
Jenny Hale tells the story of their lives and does it perfectly,
Sydney loves her family home where she moved back with her son after her divorce. She's never got over her first love who stormed away and now he's come back as a well known singer and song writer
I received a ARC of The House on Firefly Beach by Jenny Hale from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Not familiar with Jenny Hale or her writing style, I delved into this book with an open mind. Sydney Flynn, hometown girl who got her heart broken by hometown boy turned songwriting superstar, is the protagonist in this story. I found her relatable, likeable and easy to follow along with.
Overall, the story was much what I expected it to be-not necessarily in a bad way, just in a predictable way. I rooted for Nate and Sydney knowing and understanding the whole time they would end up together. The novel overall was an easy feel good read, I just wished the ending and reconciling of the relationship wasn’t so rushed.
One day you find The One. Or at least that's what you were convinced of. Your world falls apart when he suddenly takes off, barely saying goodbye and not looking back at all. The feelings that were once so pure and deep seemed to have vanished down the drain.
Life goes on and you move on too, but do you really? Can you have closure when, years later, you still cannot understand why? There is no switch to shut down your feelings and no matter how hard you try you still hold on to memories.
There are a few big questions that remain : would you give him a second chance if you had the opportunity or are the layers of concrete around your heart too hard to ever shatter again? Would you be able to trust him or would you always be plagued by those niggling worries?
A lovely heartwarming summer read, where good intentions did not have the outcome they were meant to have. Sometimes actions say more than words, but often they should be combined in order to avoid misunderstanding and hearbreak. 4 stars.
Thank you, Jenny Hale and Bookouture
This is a great follow on book from Summer at Firefly Beach. It has loveable character and a great feel good storyline. Another fantastic book by Jenny .
I loved this book and was delighted that we were getting a second book based around Firefly beach. I don't feel you need to read the first book to follow along.
I loved the story and the characters but now I've been left wanting anxiously for the next Jenny Hale book!!
The perfect cosy summer story!
Sydney Flynn and her son live at her childhood refuge, Starlight Cottage, on Firefly Beach. At her sister’s wedding, Sydney sees Nate Henderson, the one who left her with a broken heart. He seems set on being a part of her life and the life of her son Robby. Sydney misses who Nate was all those years ago, but she will fiercely guard Robby’s heart against disappointment.
The House on Firefly Beach is a quick read by Jenny Hale. Sydney’s character is well-developed. I enjoyed reading about Sydney. I would like to know more of the internal monologue of Nate and Robby. I hope there will be future books about them.
Overall, this book was enjoyable and I will read more books by Jenny Hale.
Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the eARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I loved this story of Sydney and Nate. Considering how he left her after college you will be able to see why she reacted to him the way she did. He came back to Firefly Beach for the wedding of Sydney's sister to his friend Ben. He brought Juliana with him and everyone thought she was his girlfriend. The reason he came back is really not known until late in the story but the story of Juliana comes about earlier. This is a GREAT READ. You should read this and see for yourself how things work out. As always a great book by Jenny Hale.
I LOVED this book! I couldn’t put it down and read the entire thing in one day (laundry? what laundry?)! You immediately connect with the protagonist Sydney and her situation. It’s hard not to love Nate, too, even when you’re screaming at him to finally tell her how he feels.
The romance is so sweet and emotions run so high that you forget what’s going on in real life because you are 100% immersed in life at Firefly Beach and Starlight Cottage. It’s the perfect quarantine read!
This is the perfect escapist summer read. I have completely devoured this book in just one sitting, It has been a perfect sunny afternoon read. I was initially attracted by the gorgeous cover but I have not been disappointed by this book. This is definitely a feel good read with a theme of overcoming mistakes. This is my first read by this author but it definitely will not be the last. I have adored this book from start to finish. It has been the perfect escape from everything which is currently taking place.
I've become a big fan of Jenny Hale's books. They are perfect for a light summer read, or in my case...a quarantine read! This one screamed Hallmark movie to me, as many of her books do (two of her books have even been turned into Hallmark movies). I really really really would love for this one to become a movie in the future. This book is a sequel to Summer at Firefly Beach, but honestly, I don't think they have to be read together to make sense. I read them so far apart that I really didn't remember quite what happened in the first book and it didn't impact my knowledge of anything in the second book. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and I think this might be one of my favorites of hers! I just love the town of Firefly Beach, even if fictional...and would love to live in a place that's just like it!
This book has all the elements that usually make me love a book, a small town where everyone knows everyone else, an old love that has come back to down, delightful side characters. Sydney Flynn is staying with her uncle at Starlight Cottage while trying to get her life back together after a divorce. She's just starting to make some strides with getting back to the writing career she had always dreamed of, and settling into life as a single mother to her son, when her first love Nate Henderson comes back to town. I really liked Sydney's interactions with everyone except Nate. I just didn't see much chemistry between them and I found myself frustrated with their conversations more than anything else. But I did still really like a lot of the other characters. This wasn't an awful book, but it didn't live up to my expectations after how much I loved some of the author's previous books.
This was such a nice story. The perfect beach story! It had wonderful characters and it sounded like the perfect place to visit or live. Definitely recommend. Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the early copy
So, just when you think this series can’t get any better, Jenny Hale proves you wrong. I absolutely loved this book. It immediately pulls you in to the sand and the surf. This is such a page turner, I couldn’t put it down. I loved the flow of this story, the romance is as warm and toasty as the summer sun. I feel as if Sydney and Nate are close personal friends that I would want to hang out at the beach with. I highly recommend this book and all books by this author, I promise you will be hooked.
This would make for a nice, light beach read. Though I do have to say the story had moments of me saying “get on with it already!” But, with that said, I rather enjoyed this cozy feel good kind of story. This is a story of young love gone awry and overcoming past mistakes.
The main characters, Sydney and Nate, are very likeable and I love how their relationship matures as they mature.
This is my first Jenny Hale book and I hope to get a chance to read more of her books in the future.
Many thanks to NetGalley, Bookouture and author, Jenny Hale, for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.
"The House on Firefly Beach" is a perfect Summer beach read! It was easy to fall in love with Nathan and Sydney but it was Uncle Hank who really stole my heart. This book is not only a love story, but a story of family and fighting for what you believe it. From heartbreak to a happily-ever-after, this must read book will grab your attention from the first page and hold it until the end.

The House on Firefly Beachis book two of Jenny Hale’s Firefly beach series. I really recommend reading book one, because it’s wonderful ;).
I was really happy to see that Sydney is the main character in this book. I fell in love with her son Robby in book 1 already. Sydney Starlight Cottage on Firefly Beach is home. Her family is there, she’s at the beach and it the perfect place for a fresh start.
The story starts with Hallie’s and Ben’s wedding. This is where Sydney meets the love of her life Nate again. A lot has happened since they last saw each other. He left her and start a career as a famous musician. They were inseparable, inspired each other to write (she a writer) and shared many wonderful moments together.
Well, that was a long time ago. He has a new life now, he’s famous and she is divorced and has a son. She still hasn’t forgiven him. He desperately wants to explain himself, but it’s easier said than done, especially since he took his “girlfriend”Juliana with him as well.
Nate and Robby start to bond immediately though and the chemistry between Sydney and Nate is undeniable. I love how Jenny Hale captured their unique connection. And then there is a new development that threatens Starlight Cottage. Nate might even be involved with it.
I was happy to see that Sydney started writing again and there is a great little gem in the storyline connected to it.
I was hooked to the story from the start. I fell in love with the main characters and the setting. Firefly beach is amazing and I love how Jenny Hale created such a beautiful setting with lots of details. I felt like being there with all of them. She also managed to include plenty of emotions and feelings, which made me feel really close to Sydney.
It’s a book full of love, passion, trust, family and so much more. Every characters got part of his/her story shared as well and the ending is absolutely amazing.
Jenny Hale’s writing is full of depth, very detailed, fresh and full of wonderful moments.
WOW!
Such a fun great beach read! Loved this book from the first page and wished the entire time I was sitting on the beach enjoying it. First book by Jenny Hale, but will definitely not be my last.
Thank you to netgalley for the arc in exchange for an honest review.
I couldn’t get into this one. The storyline just felt too slow and characters felt like they were going in a circle. It seemed like there was potential with the main characters but it fell flat. Skimmed the rest of the book after 25%
