I love Lisa Jewell but this is not my favorite of her stories. Usually she’s a 5 star read for me and I have her on my autobuy list. This time around I’m unable to go for more than 4 stars.
Unfortunately I couldn’t get into this one and I had to DNF. I’ve read her other books and thought they were pretty good. I may circle back to it again at some point.
Lisa Jewell has been one of my favorite authors since she wrote chick-lit way back in the early 2000's. I have grown up with her writing style changing and it is a great marker of how far we have both come in the past 20 years. Lisa will remain an auto-buy for me and I can't wait to see how her writing further changes in the next 20 years,
Jewell presents a psychological mystery, more than a thriller, in this book. The story is just interesting enough to keep the reader engaged, yet I felt like I had to work to maintain real interest.
Another Great book by Lisa Jewel! I love how she makes you part of the book by getting me emotionally involved with her characters. Reason why she is one of my favorite authors! Had me on the edge of my seat!
I have to say that I truly enjoyed this book, but more than a thriller, I think it is a psychological mystery/drama. The question the book imposes is how well do you know someone? The story is told through multiple POV's, allowing the reader to get inside each character. The book is well-written with an adequate pace for the reader to follow along. I also enjoyed that the book is though-provoking. The ending was satisfying and I would highly recommend this book.
Invisible Girl by Lisa Jewell is a compelling read. Jewell uses multiple narrators and it is interesting to see how they all tie into together at the end.
Lisa Jewell does it again! She is one of my all-time favorite authors and never disappoints. I loved the atmosphere, the mystery and all the unlikeable characters in The Invisible Girl. I look forward to reading many more like this.
Speaking of snoozy. This was a major pbummer. Nothing exciting really ever happened and I spent 300+ pages dodging annoying ass red herrings.
I was pleasantly surprised by this one. Solid thriller, I also listened to the audiobook at times and it was super enjoyable too. Lisa Jewell is an amazing writer & definitely keeps you engaged throughout.
Not my favourite Lisa Jewell, I found the voice to be frustrating and grating. I love Lisa Jewell and this book was a disappointment
As a fan of Lisa Jewell's writing, I always look forward to a new book by her. Lately, I've been in a bit of a mystery slump, not many of them really holding my attention or feeling especially original, so I had high hopes this one might do the trick. While it wasn't my favorite by the author, it was entertaining and brought in certain elements that make Jewell's crime fiction stand out as more thoughtful than your typical psychological thriller. I liked the multiple POVs, and that she makes her characters feel real and multi-dimensional, not flat caricatures. That being said, I didn't really connect with with any of them to the point that I would consider this book especially memorable. That may be because I read a lot in this genre, but it may also just be because this wasn't quite Jewell's best. I liked it, was engaged and curious how it would end, but I did guess quite a few of the twists and turns along the way. Overall, an entertaining mystery I would recommend to fans of her previous books or authors like Ruth Ware or Lucy Foley.
Wow!!! This is my favorite Lisa Jewell title in a while. A perfectly crafted, super-satisfying domestic thriller. I’ve been craving just this kind of story lately, and I couldn’t put this down! No murder, but tons of suspense. I loved it! Great ending too.
I’ve enjoyed quite a few of Lisa Jewell’s novels. This one was a little different than others I’ve read, but I thought it was a great read.
A young woman disappears on Valentine’s Night.
Where is Saffyre Maddox?
Seventeen-year-old, Saffyre Maddox often has dark thoughts that frighten her. Something happened when she was ten years old. Something that changed her. She started seeing a child psychologist named Roan Fours when she was twelve. She saw him for three years. Roan Fours felt that Saffyre made great progress, but she disagreed. Most of the time, Saffyre feels invisible. She likes being invisible because she can collect more secrets that way. But if those secrets got out, many lives would be changed.
Thirty-three- year old, Owen Pick is also invisible but wishes he wasn’t. He doesn’t have any friends and he’s never had a girlfriend. He’s never sure how to act around women. He often feels like he’s done something wrong.
Life is about to get even harder for Owen Pick. He’s not going to be invisible much longer.
When Saffyre goes missing, almost everyone thinks Owen is responsible. But is he?
A gripping domestic suspense novel about a group of people whose lives are forever changed when a young woman disappears.
A terrific read!
Lisa Jewell writes captivating and gripping stories filled with many terrifically flawed characters. True personality is often hidden by the masks people wear and sometimes focusing on things seen as obvious means other important things get overlooked.
The story is told from multiple points of view, but I most enjoyed hearing from Saffyre and Owen. Many interesting twists kept me on my toes. This story deals with relevant and important issues. Some parts may be upsetting or triggering for some readers. It was interesting and disturbing learning about the world of an involuntary celibate (incel).
An intelligent story with an engaging plot that kept me gripped from start to finish. I’m excited to read more from this author.
I'd like to thank the publisher for providing me with a copy of this novel. All opinions are my own.
This book was really hard to put down. I really felt bad for most of the people in this book. I didn’t really think it was as well written as some of her other books but it was a quick read.
This book was firmly OK. I’m normally a big fan of Lisa Jewell’s writing, but this one didn’t have me flipping pages at top speed.
The story is about a person who is sexually assaulting women, a girl gone missing, a lonely incel, and a philandering child psychologist and his family. It had promise but lacked the plot to fully draw me in.
Of course I jumped at the chance to read another Lisa Jewell book. The way she develops her characters and intertwines their stories is incredible enjoyable to read. However, Invisible Girl left me a little less intrigued than her other books. I didn't connect with the characters. I wasn't a huge fan of the storyline. There could be a few triggering themes in here, although not completely detailed or developed, but it delves into cheating, assault, and abuse. I may be of the great majority here, which is unfortunate, but this was not one of my favorites.
*received for free from netgalley for honest review* Different in a good way tho i wasnt sure at first lmao, was hard to put down
Three out of five is not a bad rating from me. It means I enjoyed it, but won't look forward to reading it again.
I know domestic thrillers are pretty dark by their very nature; I come into one of these stories with the excitement of following a mystery as well. I'm always impressed when there are characters so wildly different from each other that they leap off the page.
I think the biggest difference here was subtlety? None of the main characters had big personalities. Strong ones, sure, but not loud ones. The closest was the daughter that was sure so of herself, and she's a side character, anyway. The point is, it was super darkly atmospheric because of that. The characters all quietly dancing around each other. None of them outspoken unless it's a front.
It dealt with some heavy subject matter, too. Child abuse. Adults who treat those children. Paranoia. Incels. Stalkers. I read it pretty quickly. If it sounds like it's for you, give it a go.
Thank you for my review copy. All opinions are my own.

Oh my goodness. That was a fantastic ride. Lisa Jewell always brings it. What you ask? IT.

This book really went to very different places that I was not expecting and then of course in true Thriller fashion brought a great twist ending. I loved it. I could go on and on....but I always choose no spoilers. So here is the short. Invisible Girl is fantastic. I highly recommend it.

As an fyi....I will always recommend Lisa Jewell. She and I have a whole vibe. (Yes, I am aware she doesn't know me....but dang....every book she writes...I love)
