I really enjoyed this book! This book was generously provided to me through NetGalley. Highly Recommended!
The author's honesty about growing up in a dysfunctional home and of the strength that it took to break the cycle was interesting to read. The only complaint that I have is that the book would have read better chronologically. It seemed disorganized in the way it was written.
I read this book in one day. I really enjoyed it, although perhaps enjoy is the wrong word. Far from being a misery memoir, this is a story of a brave woman who came through a very difficult time. The way she takes you down one road with the first chapter only to wrong foot you with the second is masterly. This could be an utterly tragic story, but the author portrays her strong character and determination to escape from the start. It's a terribly sad story, but one told with skill and compassion. I really enjoyed it.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for providing this book in exchange for an honest review.
This is a tough book to rate. While the story is interesting, it is written in kind of a scattered way. To me, it would've been better to be more chronological.
"Family", luckily, can be whoever you choose and I'm so happy she had her grandfather as a good support person. To know how her mother struggled to cope with being a teen mom and having her own dysfunctional mother, my heart goes out to her. I'm glad the author was able to break the cycle.
