I think her best yet. Creepy circumstance. No idea who comes out alive even though there is a teaser in the beginning of how many will survive. Isolated, claustrophobic, great mystery read.

Ruth Ware is the Queen of suspense and atmosphere. No one currently writing thrillers does it better, in my opinion. Her books keep getting better and better!! I NEVER saw the ending coming, ever. Had no clue what was going on and had to keep reading because I couldn't put it down. Well done!

Thank you to # Netgalley for the opportunity to read and comment on One by One by Ruth Ware. What could go wrong? A ski chalet in the French Alps that was only accessible from a funicular that ran from a small town down the mountain. Snoop, a music streaming start-up on the verge of an IPO or a lucrative buyout for the founding shareholders. Shareholders with divided loyalties and the other employees of the company on a ski retreat. An avalanche and a dead body count that was getting higher. This book kept me engaged and guessing- I figured out who did it but I kept reading to figure out why. The two different narrators - Liz and Erin were effective and a bit unrelaiable and both were harboring secrets that unravel as the story progresses. The cast of characters is long but they were easy enough to differentiate and sift through for motivation. The atmosphere of suspense was just right. A thoroughly enjoyable read that I recommend to Ruth Ware fans.

“One by One”—Ruth Ware [3.5 stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫] Tech company “Snoop” plans a retreat with it’s co-workers to a beautiful ski chalet in France to make some big decisions about the company. Disaster strikes as an avalanche hits and everything starts to go terribly wrong; one by one people are getting killed off and everyone is questioning each other on who can be trusted and who can this possible killer be amongst them. I really liked the setting and the premise of the book, but sometimes trying to keep up with the characters was a little confusing , and after the suspenseful buildup, it was a little underwhelming and easy to figure out who the killer was. Overall I thought it was a really enjoyable read and fans of a suspenseful thriller and Ruth Ware would definitely enjoy this! 👍🏼*Thank you to NetGalley and Gallery Books for providing me a digital ARC of this book in exchange for my honest review* 📚

Another great psychological thriller by Ruth Ware! This is the perfect book to keep you cool this summer by bringing the reader right in the middle of an avalanche and 10 diabolical characters!

Wow! Fantastic edge of your seat mystery. When a group of employees from a tech company take a trip to a secluded mountain resort, someone starts picking them off one by one. But this is not just any tech company, this is Snoop, one of the hottest apps around and they are trying to decide if a buyout is right for the company, as its starting to have financial issues. After a devastating avalanche leaves everyone trapped at the resort, everyone is a suspect. I have read all Ms. Ware’s books in the past and I believe this is the best one yet. Very fast paced and addictive. Highly recommended.

I am a big fan of this author and have read several of her previous books. Her plots always keep you on edge with unexpected twists and her latest is no exception.
What was especially clever is that way before the book's finale, the reader is already privy to the "whodunit" aspect. Yet, I was still "on edge" even after knowing. The conclusion is quite satisfying and I can't wait for her next one.

Ruth Ware's latest is an addictive, thrilling read that kept my eyes glued to the page. Ware is a master at building atmosphere and I loved the snow/ski chalet as a setting, it was perfect for maximizing the group's tension and complicated dynamic. With only two POVs featured, you don't get to know the other characters that well, but I think that decision made sense for the story. A fun, quick read that will satisfy many mystery readers.

I want to thank Ruth Ware, her publishing house, and NetGalley for allowing me an electronic copy in exchange for an honest review.
4.5 stars
Granted it is the wrong season to read this book. It takes place in the Alps at a ski chalet. Even though I have read this in quarantine in 90 degree heat, I still felt the chill and the anxiety this book produced. I love Ruth Ware! There is a cast of characters on a business/pleasure ski trip. Many of the characters in the book are from a small internet start-up company and there is the chef and the hostess of sorts. People start disappearing. There is a huge avalanche just to add some more stress to the situation. So no electricity, no Wi-Fi, and only a small wood burning stove for heat. Then the pipes freeze so no water. Start melting snow. One by One people are found dead. Who is doing it? When will someone come to rescue whoever is left? As most of her novels are, this one is fast-paced and keeps you interested.

thoughts

Would I recommend? Yes, in fact I've already started talking about it with my friends

Would I read more by this author? Yes

Wow now this is like the Ruth Ware I love even though I've only read 3 of her books which are In A Dark Dark Woods ( which I loved ) ,The Death of Mrs. Westaway ( another one I loved) and sadly I picked up The Turn of the Key (which I didn't like at all that one didn't seem like her books it wasn't dark and twist like her other two was), so when I saw this one NetGalley I knew I wanted to read it and had to request it, because of three things: 1: the author, 2 the title , and three both the title and the synopsis that gives me vibes of a Agatha Christie's book And Then Then Was None, in some ways its like that but in others ways its different. The one part that reminds me of Then There IS None,is how a group of people come together in a place that is in a creepy setting , what more can be creepy then an rustic mountain chalet in winter where there is one way out if you need help, the other way it remind me of it is how it seemed everyone had secrets and not good ones at that, and one by one those secrets came out and things start to go bad, and I mean bad. Which brings up the question who can you trust, will they get out, who's doing this and why and how is help if any can make it in time to save them, and why is happening. With that said if you like And Then there was None then you have to check this one.A big win I would say, as well as a big thanks NetGalley for letting me read and review.

Other reviews describe this book as one that compares to the Agatha Christie mysteries. I would have to agree with that. Those books were and still are very popular. While seeing the reading elegance of these types of mysteries they are not my favorite. For those that do this is a must read.
The characters in the book were slowly developed and as that happens one begins to see the mysteries also unfold in this murder mystery that occurs on a retreat for a high tech start up company. One by One (title) murders occur and one by one thru one explanation or another characters that might have committed the murder are eliminated or killed.
Finally in the last quarter of the book the remaining entity that actually did commit the murders is revealed and is in a thrilling race with time to murder the main character Erin. Erin, while not part of the start up company or otherwise involved has an experience of her own that she has yet to come to terms with that haunts her through out the novel.
The novel flips from character to character while each tells their story in the timeline given. The setting, in a remote chateau in the Alps makes for interesting reading and supplies mysteries and thrills of its own in the weather, an avalanche and a beautiful chateau. For most of those who like a good mystery this is one of the better ones with a current day time and setting, tons of characters and rich storyline.
Thanks NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this book and tons of others.

Wow. I enjoyed this novel! Erin and Danny are the host/chef/caretakers of a lodge. The book starts off with Erin and Danny getting things ready for the next group to come into the chantlet. Snoop is the app everyone is talking about! Where you can have a connection with a celebrity or even a stranger by listening to the music they are listening to at the same time via the app. Well the group came in and it becomes really clear right off the bat the group is at the resort to discuss a potential to sell off the company. Topher one of the co-founders is totallu against the sale but, Eva is actually for it!
So the strange stuff starts happening when the group goes out to ski. And while the skiing goes pretty well there are a few hiccups along the way and by the time everyone returns eva is no where insight then the unthinkable happens. An avalanche.
After pinging Eva's phone they assume she is dead then two more people are killed under mysterious circumstances. That starts the thoughts of everyone suspecting everyone else for the murders.
I really enjoyed it! The suspense, the mystery had me hooked from the first couple of chapters. I loved it and would definitely recommend it!

Ruth Ware is one of my favorite new authors. The atmosphere that she creates in her stories is so believable that you feel like you are there. This story was no exception. The setting is a ski chalet in France. I wanted to be on the funicular with this group of people drinking Krug, skiing and returning for a dip in the pool.
The two person POV kept me interested. However, I felt like we never got to know the characters. Maybe because there were so many. They seemed more like caricatures of hipsters. The ending was very exciting. I wish there had been more excitement during the middle of the book.

Lotsa characters – lotsa snow – lotsa thoughts swirling through the minds of all these characters requiring lotsa excess pages. Lotsa holes in the plot points.

This is an Agatha Christie copy-cat/wanna be.

I appreciate this ARC from NetGalley and Scout Press in exchange for an honest review. 2.5 rounded up to 3*.

Once again Ruth Ware has done it. This book will keep you on the edge of your seat the entire time you're reading it.
The story begins at a Chalet in the alps, where a tech company is having their team building getaway. It is written very interestingly, from the viewpoints of the different people on the trip, as well as the employees who are working at the chalet.
People start disappearing and being killed following an avalanche and it is up to the remaining members to get help or to figure out who is causing the deaths.
The writing is superb, the story is well crafted and it is a genuine page-turner that will leave you wondering until the very last pages.
I greatly enjoyed it as an escape from everyday life, but kind of wish I hadn't read it quite so fast. I might have to come back to it again to re-read!

Another excellent book from Ruth Ware. Her characters are always well-developed. The pacing good and the tension really builds. There were a couple of "holes" in the plot with this one, however.

This is my first Ruth Ware book. I really enjoyed it! A group of people travel to a remote ski chalet for a business trip where they must make some decisions about their company, SNOOP. Things begin to unravel between them and the chalet hosts. There are twists and turns on and off the slopes, making this a great read!

I don’t know if I have ever read a better murder mystery than “One by One” by Ruth Ware. From the very opening pages, the story had me hooked, with tension that kept mounting until I seriously wondered who was good and who was bad in this captivating thriller.
The story follows two women who met at the beautiful Chalet Perce-Neige, a ski resort that people rent for a week at a time. Erin hosts the chalet and Liz visits with a group of people who work for a company called Snoop, which is a popular music app. Snoop is right up there with Twitter and Facebook, but opposing opinions are tearing it apart. With an offer for twelve million dollars if they hand over the rights for Snoop, half the party wants to buyout while the other half does not. It is ultimately up to Liz to decide the fate of the company, and the decision tears her apart.
Before Liz can decide on either side, things start going wrong at Chalet Perce-Neige. One of the main executives goes missing, presumably lost in the snow after a devastating avalanche that traps all of them in the chalet. After that, death surrounds the chalet, so much that no one can be trusted, not even Erin. Erin may have more to do with the people of Snoop than she lets on, making literally everyone in the chalet a suspect in the killings.
This was a nail-biter. I was shocked by the identity of the killer, so much so that I am still thinking about it. Ruth Ware crafts a wonderful murder mystery that had me guessing until the end. I will definitely want to read this book again.
