Ware is fierce and ferocious in One by One!

When a snowy, avalanche rumbles in while attending a meditation and mindfulness retreat. . . and all of its participants are completely trapped at the resort. . . ask yourself one question: How far would you go to survive?

This book gave me goosebumps! I couldn't fall asleep after reading it. I always found Ruth Ware highly readable and this novel was no different. Five stars!

I love Ruth Ware and will always be a loyal fan of her mysteries. One by One certainly has an Agatha Christie feel, but with Ware's gift of writing, she is able to completely make it her own. As a champion ski racer, I love how Ware captured the feel of skiing and created a beautiful atmosphere in the French Alps to stage her latest novel. So it is pretty obvious that her story spoke to me on many levels. Although I would have wanted to see greater character development (some seemed a bit superficial and stereotypical), I enjoyed the dual perspective that continued to the very end. Overall, Ruth Ware does not disappoint.

5 HUGE STARS!!! I am always blown away by the fact that Ruth Ware consistently writes fantastic novels! One by One is a mystery/thriller that will captivate you the entire way through! The storyline is brilliantly mapped out to maximize your shock factor at the well-timed twists and turns! In true Ruth Ware fashion there is a chilling eerie vibe throughout that most definitely adds to the suspense! One by One is a solid and complete 5 star novel and could quite possibly be my favorite book from Ruth Ware to date!!!! In this crazy world, I have found fantastic books a perfect escape and I highly recommend you put One by One at the top of your reading list!

This one sadly didn’t work for me. I didn’t enjoy the plot and 12 main characters who are equally important! I skimmed over a lot of this book just to see if it would finally pique my interest. I am still a Ruth Ware fan but this one missed the mark for me.

Thanks to Netgalley for my advanced ebook copy. This one is out September 2020.

Ruth Ware is always a treat and this is her best offering yet. She is a first purchase author for all adult fiction collections.

Ruth Ware's upcoming novel, One By One, is set in a luxe ski lodge where feuding tech founders combine a skiiing holiday and a contentious board vote. This is a locked-door mystery, or really a snowed-in mystery, when an avalanche cuts off the residents of the chalet, along with the two staffers who keep the wealthy guests fed and the chalet cleaned.

Like in Lucy Foley's The Hunting Party, most of the people snowed in are kind of unlikeably privileged. Their app, Snoop, has brought everyone wealth, but most of the team already started out with private school educations, family money, and good looks. Slight exceptions are Carl, the older, cranky lawyer, and quiet Liz, the former receptionist and office manager. There's a heavy divide between the tech rich having their mandatory-fun group skiing trip, and the chalet staff who actually have to work.

The first death -- it's not exactly a spoiler to tell you that someone's going to die under mysterious circumstances, is it? -- seems like a tragic accident. But the second death couldn't possibly be an accident, could it? And, since the ski lodge is cut off from everyone else by an avalanche, with no cell signal and no one in or out, that means someone staying in the house is a murderer. This locked-door, one-by-one theme seemed like a clear homage to Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None, without being too derivative.  The tension stays high throughout the book, mixing survival from the elements and survival from a murderer in the group, who's already killed someone to protect their secrets. There were a few moments when I was on Team Nobody, and kind of OK with some of the jerks meeting with mysterious accidents, but that only made all the millions of motives more believable, and meant everyone was a suspect.

I was just delighted to get this one on NetGalley, I really liked Ruth Ware's suspenseful other novels The Turn of the Key,  The Death of Mrs. Westaway, and The Lying Game, and this is another page-turning suspense. I'm reading this in coronaquarantine, so I connected even more with the isolation, and the fancy canapes seemed even more luxurious in these months without restaurants.

Ruth Ware...I read "In a Dark, Dark Wood" and fell in love with her. I have read every single book she has written. The relationship with her novels has been a roller coaster for me with ups and downs. Some novels I love and others I hate. I can honestly say that this is my favorite novel that Ware has written since "In a Dark, Dark Wood!"

It's a whodunnit style classic for sure. We've got 10 employees of an up and coming hip new app come to mix business with pleasure in high class ski chalet located in the French alps. We've got two hosts, Erin and Danny, ready to spoil their guests in the lap of luxury at their fancy ski resort. We've got someone suddenly missing on the first ski run of day, followed by an avalanche trapping the remaining people in the chalet and then they began to get picked off one by one... It's a mind-bending case of who will turn up dead next and who can you trust in such close quarters, cut-off from the rest of the world and all help.

As their numbers dwindle and we begin to see the true colors of the characters, the murderer could really be anyone-there's a lot at stake- money, sex and power. Ware interweaves the secrets of the guests with the chalet hosts beautifully. The end comes out like a heart-pounding, edge of your seat shock that will leave your mouth hanging open. Did that really just happen? Could that really happen?
Bravo to Ware for finally giving me a novel that kept me (and my blood pressure) up at night, while I frantically turned the pages and and ached to know the finality of it all. Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC. 4 stars

First of all, let me say that Ruth Ware is one of my favorite mystery writers.
I have read all of her previous books, therefore, I was incredibly excited when I was approved to review her latest book.

I really enjoyed her latest murder mystery. Although, I would say that I loved her previous books, The Turn of the Key and The Death of Mrs. Westaway more than this one, simply because I loved the gothic atmosphere in those. Still, as a modern mystery, which revolves around the social media generation and viral smart phone app frenzy, this was not far behind.

This book is narrated by two different characters, Erin and Liz. Getting the story through two different voices and personalities, makes it more appealing.

The creators of the music app Snoop, are holding a corporate retreat at a remote ski chalet.

We are introduced to an intriguing cast of characters, most of whom are young and beautiful. CEO Topher is a handsome and flashy guy, Eva is the fashionable and hot co founder. Miranda, is the smart & sophisticated PR person, and so on. The only dull and drab one in the entire group seems to be Liz, who is also one of the book’s narrators. The characters are nicely written and fleshed out.

The guests are trapped in the chalet due to an avalanche and one by one the characters start dying or disappearing. Which one among them is a cold blooded killer?

The ending of course has a twist, like all of Ruth Ware’s books. It will catch you by surprise. I recommend this book for people who love, mysteries, thrillers and whodunnits with a contemporary feel to them.

Thank you to the publisher, the author and NetGalley for providing me with a review copy of the book for an honest review.

Anytime I see Ruth Ware on the front cover of a book I read it. This book was my all time favorite of hers. It was a thrilling modern twist of an Agatha Christie classic. The twists and turns of this book continued to shock me and I found myself skimming through the page before reading just to fulfill the anticipation!! I will 100% recommend this book to everyone I know and for patrons looking for a page turner!!

I've been a fan of Ruth Ware for a long time and this book does not disappoint! This is Ware at her best! I love this type of whodunit mystery/thriller - and it was a mystery until the final reveal! At one point I suspected each one of the guests at the magnificent mountain chalet; I definitely did not figure this one out early on. The alternating points of view make it even more interesting, as does the setting - an isolated ski chalet, an avalanche, losing power and cell service - all combine to make a great thriller! There's more than one twist at the end that kept me up reading all night until I finished this! Perfection!

Eight coworkers working at a rustic ski resort get snowed in, and one by one, each start to turn up dead. Not to mention the new app called Snoop where you can geolocate your friends and are creepily able to listen to what they're listening to at the exact same time. Ware's fans won't be disappointed with this page turning thriller!

Absolutely loved it! I’m a huge Ruth Ware fan, and this title did not disappoint! It reminded me, to some degree, of IN A DARK, DARK WOOD, which is one of my favorite thrillers of all time.

In ONE BY ONE, the landscape, the alternating POVs, and the Snoop hierarchy make for an intriguing, dynamic read. As is typical of this author, plenty of twists and turns propel the narrative forward at break-neck speed. New revelations and shifting allegiances keep the ‘who-dunnit’ element alive throughout.

My favorite character is Danny because...how could it not be?! :)

Ruth Ware is a power house in the mystery/suspense genre, and I was in the mood for an isolation read amidst, you know, pandemic quarantine. So, I was thrilled to receive an eARC of One by One.

Snoop, a start-up music streaming app touting connection and anonymity, is holding a corporate retreat at a remote ski chalet. Alternating between Erin, the chalet's host, and Liz, the outlier with mysterious ties to the company, we meet a cast of quirky, hipster characters, from the hot-head CEO Topher who's used to getting his way, to Eva, the stylish and painfully ambitious co-founder who's hell-bent on monetizing the company before they go bankrupt. When an avalanche decimates part of the chalet and Eva is presumed dead, the remaining guests are forced to question each other, spinning a web of lies and suspicion that carries to the very last page.

First, I'd like to say that I loved this read. The Death of Mrs. Westaway was difficult for me to get through, and comparatively, I found this to be a much more interesting title. While there are certainly themes of merit and critiques on our reliance on social media, Ruth Ware has created an immersive, effortless read that is more of a distraction than a study. For this, I was engrossed. Breathing life into the staff and guests, the mountain itself becomes a character, and I could've been sitting in the room itself, snuggled up in front of the fire watching the hours tick by on the mantel as we waited for help. Ware nailed the dialogue and structure; having each chapter start with user stats was genius and added to the intrigue, helping us get to know the characters through song choice while enforcing an sub-layer of tension.

The plot, as a whole, is not terribly difficult to figure out. The characters discuss motives in detail, introducing doubt about alibis and motives and dismissing them just as quickly. The fun, then, is not in the "whodunit" but the "will he/she get away with it" aspect. Ware's exposition to get to the final climax is expertly built and executed, and I appreciated the skill in which she used the character arcs to push the tension. This is a very character driven novel, but the pace is quick and light in spite of the murders, a perfect read to take your mind off things or get lost in the mystery.

Overall, I really enjoyed One by One. Atmospheric, fun, and delightfully twisty, One by One is a winner.

Thank you to Gallery/Scout and NetGalley for providing an eARC in exchange for honest review consideration.

Fans of Ruth Ware will not be disappointed by her latest offering, One By One. It is a tense mystery filled with unlikable characters trapped in a beautiful mountain setting which quickly turned hostile. It is fast paced, atmospheric and definitely not to be read in the middle of a snowstorm!

Although I quickly figured out the who of the story, the why was a surprise. The reveals throughout the book were nice little discoveries, aided by the story being told from two alternating points of view. Seeing certain sequences through both sets of eyes added to the suspense toward the end.

Despite the fact that this was not my favorite book by this author, it’s still a fun story, well written and definitely worth reading.

My copy of this book was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. My thanks to the the author, the publisher, and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review it.

Ruth Ware’s upcoming book, One by One, is a shocking, nail biting thriller that does not disappoint!! I loved this book, and appreciate that I got the opportunity to review it pre-publication.

Each one of Ruth Ware’s novels have a drastically different writing style, and I love her willingness to experiment and try new things. This book alternates between the viewpoints of 2 characters. Classic Ruth Ware throughout, however, in that you will not see all the twists coming, and you won’t be able to put it down! The tension ratchets up with each turn of the page, and I whipped through this book in a day.

One by One tells of a tech company, Snoop, on a corporate retreat. On this retreat, Snoop has to decide if they are going to sell to another company, or if they will take their company public. An avalanche traps them at the chalet where they were staying, and guests begin dying or disappearing. Is somebody taking advantage of the avalanche situation to manipulate voting shares of Snoop to their advantage? Or are these a series of unfortunate accidents? Can the chalet employees and shareholders trust each other, or is one of them a murderer? Ruth Ware will keep you guessing, and shock you with the ending!

Thank you to Simon and Schuster, Scout Press, and Ruth Ware for the opportunity to read this advance copy! Loved, loved, loved it!!! Pre-order this one!!

After loving The Turn of the Key, I didn’t think this could measure up. As it turns out, it was better. Set in a remote skiing chalet, the guests are being picked off one by one by a murderer. The characters were larger than life in my imagination, and I loved the idea of ‘Snoop’, a music based app. I suffocated through the second half of the book, unable to stop until the murderer was apprehended. Another amazing thriller!

I always jump on the latest Ruth Ware book as soon as possible, so I was very excited to get an advanced copy of this one! Sure enough, it has everything you have come to know and love in a Ruth Ware book: an Agatha Christie-esque setup in a very modern environment (this time a Swiss chalet full of dotcommers), a locked room, a set number of suspects telling the story from multiple perspectives, a glamorous and unusual locale, and of course, a murder (or four).

This story was a little low to start, but then again so are some of Agatha Christie’s. After the setup leads to the first murder things start moving quickly. I thought I had the killer figured out but I didn’t at all. The ending was a surprise but not an unfair one, with lots of good thrill. A solid, well-plotted read and another fun escapist murder mystery from Ruth Ware.

Thanks to NetGalley, Ruth Ware and Scout Press for the advance copy of the fun and twisty quarantine diversion in exchange for my honest review.
