THIS BOOK. Ruth Ware is an absolute master of suspense and she delivered once again in One by One. It took me a decent amount of time to get all the characters straight but once I did I couldn’t stop reading and waiting to see what happened next. The setting of a French ski chalet and then getting snowed in was so cozy and creepy at the same time. An absolute must read for mystery fans - perfect for a cozy evening by the fire!

Ruth Ware always writes with suspense that has you on the edge of your seat. A work place event held in an upscale resort turned deadly. The story unfolds with the characters different personalities expecting different outcomes for the retreat. Once a death occurs it becomes a scary place to be. Weather issues caused all to be stuck together , where no one trusts anyone else. A very complicated turn of events including weather, had the reader in the dark until the end.

I had to start this one multiple times because I had a hard time getting through the first couple chapters. Ruth Ware tends to be a slow build, and story, and you can expect that with this one as well. If you like her writing style, then this is definitely a book you should pick up!! Perfect winter setting for winter approaching.

I like ALL of Ruth Ware's books. This one was no exception. I think if I were to recommend Ware's books to someone who had never read them before, I might start with either her debut or WOMAN IN CABIN 10 first, but you wouldn't go wrong with this one, either. If you're a fan of Agatha Christie and AND THEN THERE WERE NONE, you will see the the inspiration/influence, but I'm fine with and even appreciate noting an author's sources of inspiration. I think the only thing I would have liked to see the author make MORE use of is how the "Snoop" app functions in the plot; after all, Ware did such a great job using technology to great effect in the "smart" house depicted in THE TURN OF THE KEY. But beggars, choosers -- glad for any and all Ruth Ware stories.

Overall, I'd say: A great rec to give people looking for atmosphere and a "locked-room" mystery as we go into the winter months. My librarian mother put it on her "Recommend" shelf for borrowers.

When I first started reading this book, it reminded me a little of "And Then There Were None" by Agatha Christie. As it went on and on it curved away from what I originally thought. "One by One" is about a group of colleagues from a big app company called Snoop, who has just received a huge buyout offer. Half of the share holders want to sell, yet the other half don't.

This is my first book that I have read by Ruth Ware, and I can't wait to read more. At first, the book was challenging to get into, but once I did, I was hooked and couldn't wait to find out what happened. Ware created an incredibly atmospheric book, making me feel as if I was right there on the ski slopes. My favorite scenes came at the end with an intense back and forth between the 2 POVs. The ending did drag on a bit, but overall it was an enjoyable reading experience.

This is a must read for fans of Agatha Christie, the ending was well thought out, though a tad too long. Being able to see where the characters went was great and the suspense was there until the very end!

I have read all the Ruth Ware books, so I had to get this through NetGalley.
The story takes place in the French mountains in a ski resort. A tech company called Snoop has rented a cabin as a retreat in preparation for a big announcement. During a skiing trip someone turns out missing before a nasty avalanche hits the mountain and traps everyone in the cabin. Will they make it out alive?
This read had some interesting characters, but some where a little cliche as far as they related to the plot. I loved the flow of the plot. I would definitely recommend this read.

3.5 stars. Basically, another Agatha Christie style locked room mystery. Nothing particularly new and exciting but entertaining enough. A corporate retreat to a mountain chalet goes terribly wrong. Blizzards, avalanches, total power failure, internal bickering, marooned guests . . . and then, of course, dead bodies start to pile up. A decent tale and worth a quick read.

4 stars! I have read all of Ruth Ware's books and consider her a favorite author. This book is brilliantly written and most everyone has truly loved the thrill of reading it. It's not my favorite but maybe I just could not get into the Snoop Social Media plot and the ski slopes. That said, it is still and absolute 4 star book and full of twists and surprises that we have all come to expect in a Ruth Ware book.

The story follows the characters associated with Snoop, a social media kind of company...where one can have the pleasure of listening to your favorite artist's playlist while they are listening to...or your friends...anyone with a snoop account. There is something about lying on your sofa drinking wine while listening to the exact same song Lady Gaga is across the world in real-time. How appealing, right?

So the company has this nice gathering at a ski lodge with the owners there, profit sharers, etc. Erin is there and manages the lodge and sees to everyone's needs. Erin has some pretty dark secrets she is running away from.

Things begin to move along when Eva, one of the head honchos, ends up missing and dead. I will let you go from there as some of the key players are picked off one by one out on the ski slopes. It is thrilling in a cold, dark night kind of way. Full of angst and fear. I don't suggest reading while trying to fall asleep for the night.

Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital ARC to read for review. I highly recommend it and did vote for it this year's Goodchoice Awards. Very well written thriller!

A tech company’s retreat at a remote ski lodge becomes a nightmare - an avalanche and then one by one, people are being killed.

This started out slow for me, but eventually it picked up and I am glad I finished it. I liked the other books by this author better.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

In One by One, Ruth Ware imagines a nightmare of sorts. The shareholders and first employees of a popular internet company are brought to a luxury ski resort in the mountains. Competing factions of the company argue about the direction the company should take, whether to sell their shares to a third party, etc. It is hard not to sympathize with Liz, a former employee, current shareholder, and longtime outsider who is trapped in this nightmare. The old insecurities and rivalries come to the surface and Ruth Ware captures this so well.

I can't sympathize with most of the characters, even when the bodies start dropping, But it is delicious to imagine oneself like Liz, courted by former employers and offered life changing money. Similarly, I thoroughly enjoyed reading about the meals, pampering and care that the resort manager lavished on the unappreciative guests.

I was a bit disappointed in this book. The last book was wonderful and held my interest to the end. This book just did not have the writing to keep me interested. I still like this author so will try her next novel.

Honestly, this was boring as hell. I got to about 30% of the way through the book and still no one had died. I couldn’t find any of the characters like-able either. The “And Then There Were None” theme is so overused in thrillers, so if you’re going to do it, do it well. This one did not do it well at all.

Another winner by Ruth Ware, intense, enthralling, and will keep you on your toes well into the night. Did I also mention that I now want to have a Snoop in my life. Was I slightly suspicious of the killer the whole time? Possibly. Have I been bingeing Mysteries for a month now? Yes. Did I still love this book? MOST DEFINITELY.

Even if I wasn't mindblown by the actual killer, there were enough tidbits along the way, and the progression of the story, definitely kept me interested. This is one of my favorites of Ware's books (granted this is only my third), but I would highly recommend. Also, who doesn't like a stranded in a blizzard story?

Another thrilling suspenseful story by Ware. All of the characters were believable, the story flowed, and once again another page turning ending. If you decide to read this give yourself plenty of time as you’ll want to read this in one sitting, it’s that mesmerizing.

This took a long time to get going - I did not care very much about the dynamics within the start-up company, and do not have any background in skiing so the details surrounding both aspects made the set-up of this novel quite slow. I found myself plodding through the first 60%, and it took until about 70% to get to the point where the plot was moving and I needed to find out what happens. I was satisfied by the ending, which is something I have struggled to enjoy in Ware's books prior to this.

This book was a fun and fast read. It is possible you will figure out who is the murderer, but it is twisty enough to keep you guessing. I would recommend for fans of Ware's previous books and anyone who likes exciting mysteries.

First I want to thank NetGalley, Simon and Schuster, and Ruth Ware for giving me the opportunity of reading this and allowing an honest opinion.

I have to be honest this one was a hard call to judge on. I loved being able to picture the scenes and feeling like I was there as the book carried on. Love the thought of snoop and what it is and does. Loved the characters. What I didn't love about it was questioning early in the book if a certain person was the killer. I came across other times of "maybe I'm wrong, fingers are now pointing towards..." There were plenty of times that happened, and I became excited again while reading. But in the end I had guessed correctly, just too soon. I still loved the book overall, it did have it twists, and would definitely recommend it to others.

My overall would be between a 3.5 and a 4.
