Peachy Scream by Anna Gerard is the second book in her Georgia B&B and was great fun and kept me completely engaged throughout the book. I really enjoy visiting Cymbeline and Nina and was thrilled to be able to read this book. Ms. Gerard's writing is so comfortable and draws me in every time.
Nina Fleet takes a last minute booking for her B&B for the Atlanta based amateur Shakespeare acting troupe that is performing in Cymbeline's annual Shakespeare Festival. Turns out that Harry Westcott is the director of the troupe for this performance and Nina has no choice but to welcome him back. A well crafted story with a diverse cast of characters (pun intended) that came alive with Ms. Gerard's descriptive writing, several twists as the troupe members pasts come to light and a dramatic reveal that Nina and Harry planned together (shocking)for the entire festival goers to witness.
After reading the first book in the series I wasn't sure if I would read any more but I'm glad I did. It was a quick, fun read and I enjoyed revisiting the town and characters. It was fun to watch Nina and Harry continue to dance around each other but the inevitable romance is moving at a glacial pace. The author did go a little overboard on explaining some fairly basic terms, which is a little jarring but not too distracting. I'll definitely be on the lookout for the next in the series.
I instantly connected with Nina Fleet. Nina is the owner of Fleet House a bed and breakfast in Cymbeline Georgia. Her helper is her Australian Shepherd pup Maddie.
She has a full house as the annual Shakespeare on Cymbeline Square festival a three day event starting soon. The acting troupe chose her bed and breakfast to stay at to prepare and preform at the festival.
Not long after the GASP group (Georgia Amateur Shakespeare Players) arrive then trouble starts. The groups main led in Hamlet is murdered and Nina is determined to find the killer.
Well written, developed characters and beautiful setting. It was the very end before I figured out the killer. I can’t wait for the next one.

Some of this book felt like a cookie cutter of cozies, (the b & b, an amateur theatre group); however, it was entertaining.
This is the second book in the Georgia Bed and breakfast series. A community Shakespearean troupe arrives for a two-week stay at Ninas B&B. But the lights dim when she learns the company's director is her nemesis, struggling actor Harry Westcott - who still claims to be the rightful heir to Nina's elegant Queen Anne home.
Before Nina can worry to much about it one of her patrons dies unexpectedly. Is it a heart attack or something more malicious? Several people had a grudge against the deceased so what happened? Now Nina is again working with Harry to make sure the show goes on and to catch a possible murderer.
I really enjoy the characters of Nina and Harry. This is a fun series and I look forward to reading more of them in the future.
Enjoyable read.
It's a few months after the events of the first book and Nina finds another body. This is not a spoiler, this is a cozy mystery, and the find is announced on the first page of the book. Also, no surprise that the victim was not a particularly well-liked man. Though, the man's unlikableness didn't really come off the page.
Anyway, with one of her guests killed, Nina is determined to solve the murder lest her B&B gets a reputation for being a crime scene. (Though, as someone points out: there are also tourists attracted to that sort of thing.) Nina's guests are an amateur troupe about to stage a play at the towns annual Shakespeare festival and they decide the show must go on.
As usual, when a writer (or play-write) is mentioned often in a story, the final resolve in the story, follows the plot of the writer. By that time, several of Nina's guests have behaved suspiciously.
3.5 starts. Rounded down because I would have liked some more Connie Lamb in the story. I just love a competent cop in a cozy.
This is such a wonderful cozy mystery series and when I saw it was being released I squealed! I enjoyed the first book so much and have been itching to get my hands on the next one since then! If you're a cozy mystery fan like I am then you won't want to miss this series. I recommend reading them in order!
Nina runs a B&B in small town Georgia. When the annual Shakespeare festival brings a motley group to her place, things become awkward. The troupe is of actors that will be performing Hamlet, and is led by Harry, her nemesis. I wish I had read others in the series, which the book references to, since it would have made the rivalry between the two make more sense. Overall though, a good cozy mystery, and while the victim was easy to see the killer was not quite so obvious. Would recommend.
3.5
I really enjoyed spending time with Nina Fleet in the first book of the Georgia B&B series. No one was more excited than me to see that book #2 was available as an ARC.
Nina has officially opened her B&B. Her first guests are group of actors who will be performing at the local Shakespeare festival. Her world is turned upside down when her arch nemesis (and secret heartthrob) is the one driving the bus that brings the actors to town. Add to this, one of the actors is found dead in her garden. Nina just can't help getting involved in solving this murder mystery.
Like the first book, this one is a fast read and thoroughly entertaining. There are numerous suspects and Nina methodically works to ID the real killer, along with a motive. There is a nice amount of humor spread throughout the story. And while nothing much happens between Nina and Harry, the ending leaves me thinking their relationship might just change!
ARC from Crooked Lane Books and Netgalley. Publish date: 7/7/2020
The 'Georgia Amateur Shakespeare Players' (GASP) are staying at Nina Fleet's B&B for two weeks. They are to perform at the 7th Annual Shakespeare on Cymbeline Square (SOCS). Unfortunately one of the 'players' is murdered prior to a rehearsal and Nina is determined to not lose a second guest.
This was an enjoyable read, with likeable characters and a believable plot. I would recommend it
I really enjoyed the characters, the setting was great and the mystery was intriguing and it was funny. I read the first book and loved it but I do believe this one is even better. Hoping for a long series of these books.
Peachy Scream was such an entertaining cosy mystery. The plot/mystery was well crafted and the characters were well developed. I also really liked the Shakespeare aspect of the book.
I sincerely enjoyed my visit to Georgia with Nina and Harry. The idea of a Shakespearean festival in Cymbeline was fun and unique. I am intrigued by the relationship between the main characters, and the flirty sense of potential romance. There is kindness in 'Peachy Scream' and a sense of family that is engaging. I look forward to more in Anna Gerard's series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are entirely my own.
Peachy Scream is the second installment in the Georgia B&B series set in Cymbeline, GA and featuring innkeeper Nina Fleet. Nina is looking forward to the annual Shakespearean Festival and hosting the acting troupe that will be headlining with their production of Hamlet, on the town square: that is until the bus carrying the troupe arrives being driven by none other than Harry Westcott, the man still claiming to be the rightful owner of Nina's beautiful Queen Anne home.
The dissension between the actors is apparent from the minute they disembark the bus. The six members of the troupe include Len Marsh and his trophy wife Susie, millionaire Marvin Lasky, Professor Tessa Benedict and her husband Bill and the transgender Chris Boyd and they are all being directed by Harry. It only takes a day before Nina discovers Len dead in her hedgerow, a glass of her welcome peach mimosa not far from his body.
Determined that the show must go on and the reputation of her B&B at stake, Nina sets out with the help of Harry to uncover a killer. An entertaining plot with a quirky cast of characters, I was able to identify the killer early on but enjoyed the banter and growing relationship between Nina and Harry. I was very happy that the author did not have Nina explaining to everyone how to pronounce her name in this addition to the series (thank you). I will look forward to more adventures with Nina, Harry and the delightful Mattie.
I received an advanced copy of Peachy Scream from NetGalley via Crooked Lane Books. While not required to write a review I am happy to offer my honest opinion.
I enjoyed this book and had a good time following Nina as she solved another murder.
The mystery is set around a Shakespearean play and a thespian whose death doesn't seem to upset too many people.
I'm looking forward to reading more in this series.
This is the second book in the series at a Georgia B&B. Nina is hosting Harry and his troupe of actors for a Shakespeare festival in town. It is a bit predictable. The annoying guy gets killed. The killer turns out to be kinda obvious even though there are several people with a reason to want him dead. I do like that the relationship between Harry and Nina is becoming less contentious. Harry as a character is becoming more developed and likeable. I will be interested to see how this progresses in future books.
Always love a cozy mystery by Crooked LAne Books. This one does not disappoint. Georgia bed and breakfast owner Nina lucks into a two week booking by a Shakespeare Troupe, including a member of her past she is not too fond of. The leading man ends up dead and who has done it? Nina, her dog Matty and her blast from the past Harry team up to find out!
Nina Fleet owns a B&B in Cymbeline, Georgia. She's expecting a Shakespearean troupe to be staying at her home, since they will be putting on Hamlet during the Shakespeare festival in town. What she's not expecting is that the troupe is headed by her foe Harry Westcott, an actor who insists that her home really belongs to him. She's not looking forward to dealing with him again, but unless she wants to ruin the festival, there's no way to turn him out.
Once everyone is settled in her home, she meets the rest of the troupe and soon realizes that Len Marsh, who is playing the lead, is also a bully toward the rest of the players. But when Len is found dead in her Shakespeare garden, everyone thinks it was natural causes. Everyone, except Nina. And when one of the other actors gets ill becomes ill, she wonders if that person isn't the target of a murderer, too. Once again enlisting Harry to help - once he believes her - Nina knows she has a murderer under her roof, and intends to find out who it is and who the intended next victim might be...
Nina is convinced that Len was murdered, but she obviously doesn't know who the killer is, and when she starts looking, she learns that every member of the troupe might have had reason enough to want him dead. So in between a little sleuthing on her own, she finally enlists Harry, who eventually agrees to help her. In this effort, Nina is conscripted to also work as an actor in the play, although she doesn't have any lines; presumably to keep an eye on the actors during the play and make sure no one harms anyone else.
This is the second book in the series and I have to say that it's quite an improvement over the first. I really didn't like Harry in the first book, but in this one he's a lot more human in the fact that he's not threatening to take Nina's home every two seconds. They actually become friends in this book, and I find that attractive and it made the book more enjoyable to read.
While the mystery is done well, shortly after Len was murdered I discovered who the murderer was and while the rest of the plot followed that, I can only say that I read a lot of mysteries, so I usually have it figured out immediately anyway. But I did like the Shakespeare aspect, and the fact that it was a troupe of actors involved, and that with the Hamlet background it all fell into place. It made for a good mystery with interesting characters, and that's what mysteries are supposed to do. All in all, this was an entertaining book and I will read the next in the series.
Thanks for the advance copy of Peachy Scream. A fun cozy mystery series. Draws you in and just want to keep reading. Looking forward to more in this series.
Peachy Scream is the second in the Georgia B&B series by Anna Gerard. B&B owner Nina Fleet is prepared for a two week stay by a community Shakespearean troupe but not for the arrival of her nemesis Harry, closely followed by the death, or perhaps murder, of the least popular member of the troupe. The annual Shakespeare festival hosted by Cymbeline, GA may never be the same.
I felt that the B&B aspects of the book were realistic and well-written, as was the preparation for the production. For the most part I enjoyed the book, at least until Nina threatened to “out” a transgender member of the troupe. I was appalled that the author would think that this was appropriate, especially for the protagonist and a B&B owner.
