Honor Avenged is a paramilitary best friends widow tale that will have you wanting to smack an obstinate stud upside his head. This book features some horrible things, the loss of a husband/best friend, betrayal, and really nasty bad guys. It also features moving on and living life. Well once Marcus gets his head out of his butt anyway. This is a fast paced scary ride of emotion and danger.

4.5⭐

Honor Avenged was an utterly gripping story. That was packed full of action, twists, suspense, heat, grief, intrigue and edge of your seat moments. Basically everything you would expect in a romantic suspense story, and it was a joy to read. But boy did my heart break at times for not only Marcus, but Leah and her children, especially Maya.

Would definitely recommend!! And I can't wait for Ian's story. 🙂

Honor Avenged is sixth book in the HORNET series by Tonya Burrows. This was my first book in the series and even though I didn’t quite know what was going on as the characters seemed well on their way with the backstories that I originally didn’t understand I found that throughout the story I seemed to catch up. This story follows Marcus Deangelo after the murder of his best friend Danny and Danny’s widow Leah. Danny’s murder was just the start of a much bigger plot that both Marcus and Leah get thrown into and Marcus will do anything to keep Leah and Danny’s kids safe. I liked the story but there were just some parts that didn’t sit well with me. I think other people will enjoy this book and maybe it was because I missed out on the first five but I thought this one was just ok.

I was provided with an electronic ARC through NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Love finding new authors to gorge on!

Marcus can't get over losing his best friend, his brother in arms. But after allowing their joint grief to almost ruin their relationship, Marcus is staying as far away from Leah and her children as possible.

Leah knows that what almost happened was due to grief. But when bad guys start taking pot shots at her and then her family, she'll go to the ends of the Earth to find Marcus. He is the only one she trusts to keep them safe. Not the FBI, not the police and most definitely not HORNET!

I have not ready any of the previous books in the series - about to be rectified and added to my TBR!

Marcus has a whole lot of grief, self-loathing and long held, deep seated family secrets going on! His Mama is one tough broad - I want to be her when I grow up LOL! Leah I felt was very anti HORNET when it's almost clear from the beginning they were not to blame for Danny's death but she is brought around. Leah and Danny's kids are so sweet but you can just feel the grief the entire family have been living with, each in their own way.

There were many WTF moments, especially with Ian and a certain duplicitous and dangerous female!

Brilliant chemistry between the leads and love the intense camaraderie between the team!

My rating: 4 stars! Wow ...I think I just found my next new author to read! Her novel Honor Avenged was non-stopped action, drama, angst and emotion from the first page to the last! My only complaint was that there was a cliff hanger and opening to a next book! That being said, I think I am sold enough to look into Ms Burrows past books!

I would like to thank the author, the publisher and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in return for an honest and unbiased review

I appreciate that I was gifted a copy of Honor Avenged by NetGalley. Ms Burrows is an author who is new to me and I will read her again because this story was good. I found Honor Avenged to be well edited and it has engaging characters with an interesting story to tell. At its most basic, this is the love story between Leah and Marcus. Leah is a widow with three children. Their family continues to grieve the loss of Leah's husband Danny who was killed the year before, but Leah is holding it (and them) together. At the time of his death, Danny was leaving the FBI to follow his former partner, Marcus, to a new job with HORNET. HORNET is a privately owned rescue team and it's very well funded. While I had no expectation that Leah and Marcus' story would be a simple one, it became a bit too complex for me to completely enjoy. There were a few things that prevented me from loving it, and those all fall under the heading of "too much". For instance, there was too much travel on four continents (North America, Asia, Africa and Europe); too many characters to remember both within the HORNET organization and the secondary characters involved in all of HORNET's adventures; too many story connections that would never happen in real life. I see books as a way to escape but my personal preference is that there be some realistic moments that make me think the storyline is plausible.

There's also a lot of good here. The intimate moments which start later in the book are hot (hot!) and well-written (we all need a Marcus.) Lanie, a secondary character, is a team leader who happens to be female. I appreciate the nod to strong, savvy women who lead and are often overlooked in books. The reader can almost feel the brotherhood among the HORNET team, and throughout the book it's clear that they each are solidly at the others' backs. There are multiple bad guys but I was largely kept guessing until the end. Marcus and Leah both have a couple of moments that are out of character during which I wanted to shake them, but the author didn't linger there, thankfully.

I'd give this book 3.5 stars because it has a lot to offer. While Honor Avenged wasn't completely my cup of tea, it's a good book and a well written one.

WOW. This one hit me in all the feels.

Marcus is drowning in grief after his best friend Danny’s death and has gone off to lick his wounds. Leah, Danny’s widow, tracks him down months later to ask for his help after she is attacked in relation to a case Danny was working on. They end up working with HORNET and uncover a dark conspiracy. Meanwhile, Marcus is struggling with his feelings for Leah and intense guilt over Danny’s death.

This series is one of my favorites, but admittedly Marcus has been a character that I have been neutral about - until now. Marcus was a character we really didn’t know much about and it was fun to dig into him with this book. I also liked Leah, especially once she got over her distrust of the HORNET team.

Also, can we talk about Ian? He has always been a fascinating character to me and it was so interesting to see more character building with him. It was so well done and I loved every single scene. I have so many questions and I am SO FREAKING EXCITED for his book, which is up next!

Can be read as a standalone, although why would you want to do that? Seriously, read them all!

Thank you to Entangled Publishing, Tonya Burrows, and NetGalley for allowing me to read an eARC of this book, which I really wanted! As soon as I finished it, I pre-ordered a copy on Amazon to support the author!

I am usually a sucker for romantic suspense - especially for a series like this. A group of good-guy mercenaries operating slightly outside the bounds of the law, but with a strong moral code. This one just wasn't a true winner for me. Maybe, I shouldn't have read this as my first entry into the series? I didn't have a strong connection to the characters - and the characters were going through some very serious stuff.

Leah's husband Danny was Marcus's best friend and former partner at the FBI. Danny was murdered at the end of an operation HORNET was involved in. Since that time Marcus and Leah have been facing tremendous grief and a lot of guilt. Marcus has retreated into himself - trying to find peace in alcohol and Leah has been just trying to get by and raise her three grieving children.

They are brought back together again when an informant from Danny's past brings some seriously bad guys to their doorstep. Marcus feels a lot of guilt related to his feelings for Leah and really needs more therapy than just surfing....

The book tackles serious and scary issues and places. I liked the cast of characters and the overall arc of the story - but I felt that the relationship between Leah and Marcus was more of a novella mixed in with a lot of information to move the overall story arc of the series along.

It is definitely an exciting story and is very well written - I wouldn't recommend it as a starting point for the series though!

I received this book as an ARC from NetGalley, but these opinions are all my own.

This is a fantastic Romantic Suspense. I could not put it down so read it in one day. Leah is a young widow and mother of three, her husband having been killed during a mission with HORNET...a top secret hostage rescue team. Since his death, she wants nothing to do with HORNET. She even accepts the break in friendship with Marcus, a member of the HORNET team and her husband's best friend even though it hurts. That is until something happens that instantly sends Leah running back to Marcus and HORNET"s network.

This book is action packed. It's exciting and had me on edge several times in the best way. Burrows does a great job of portraying the conflicting feels that both Leah and Marcus have as they grow closer. While this book is part of a series, it was very easy to read as a stand-alone and really just makes you want to read the rest. The members of the HORNET team are intriguing and likeable and you just know that Burrows will bring you the same sense of adventure that you find in this book. There is fun, tension, excitement and steam. Everything you could want from a romantic suspense book. I would definitely recommend this one.

Leah, real estate agent, is a widow with three children. While getting ready to show a house, she’s shot at and rescued by a British man who tells her to trust no one but HORNET. HORNET is a privately owned hostage rescue team, Her husband, Danny, was a FBI agent on a mission with HORNET when he was killed. Leah does not trust them. Marcus, is a member of HORNET and Danny’s best friend. He was gutted when Danny died and fell into the bottle and self isolation. When Leah finds him, he’s surfing and not wanting to go back. Until he hears she’s in trouble. Then he’ll do everything in his power to protect her and the kids. As they are trying to put the pieces together, the sparks fly but Marcus doesn’t think he’s good enough and is betraying his best friend. Can he forgive himself so he can be happy?
I know it probably doesn’t tell much but I didn’t want to give anything away. This is a roller coaster of a story. Action, suspense, sex, and tears. A second chance for Leah and a new beginning for Marcus. I loved this book and would recommend it to anyone who loves a great story.

This was an awesome introduction to this author! I loved this story front to back! If I could have read it one day, I would have!
There was sadness and excitement throughout this story. Oh, and let’s not forget to add in a love story!
I highly recommend this one!

Leah and Marcus' story was very addictive. For most of the book I was very engrossed and couldn't put it down. Once it got close to the end and all the excitement died down I was glad to see that they paid tribute to Danny, Leah's husband and Marcus' best friend. This was my first book by Tonya and am looking forward to continue reading her books. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

LOVED this book! This is fast paced romantic suspense at its best. After Leah's husband's funeral, his best friend kissed her, then ghosted her. While he wallowed in his grief and guilt, Leah struggled to raise her three children and transition through all the changes necessitated by her husband's death.

Leah has resented HORNET and the role it played in her husband's death, so when she is attacked by mercenaries and has no idea why, she seeks out Marcus, then is dragged into HORNET. What follows is a tightly woven story that I couldn't put down. I found myself turning pages just as quickly as possible because I couldn't wait to see what came next, but yet was sorry when it ended.

I've loved every book in this series and am already looking forward to the next one. This is a stand alone novel, however it's so good that you really owe it to yourself to read them all. If I could give this one more than five stars, I would. The author is on my must read authors' list.

This was my first book by this author, but it definitely won’t be my last. While I dropped into the middle of a series, I didn’t feel lost or confused because she does an excellent job of introducing (or reintroducing) characters without detracting from the current main characters and their story.

Marcus and Leah both have a lot of healing to do, and if they could just get beyond their guilt and grief, they could heal together. All that guilt doesn’t stop Marcus from jumping into action when Leah needs him most, and he brings the whole HORNET team along for the ride. While their HEA is found in this book, I’m now anxious to see what happens next for this team. Because of that, I’ll definitely be reading more from this author.
