While it was easy to hazard an early guess on the mystery, it still had a few twists and turns and it was nice to re-visit some favorite characters. You can read this as a standalone without missing too much from earlier books.

NO ONE SAW by Beverly Long is an excellent police procedural and the second book in the A.L. McKittridge mystery series set in Wisconsin. The two main characters in the story are Detectives A.L. McKittridge and Rena Morgan. The book starts with A.L. coming back from vacation and getting a call from Rena. A five year old girl is missing from a day care center. Her grandmother dropped her off, but neither she nor the person she was supposedly handed off to can account for the child’s whereabouts. Who is lying? Did the girl wander off on her own? Was the kidnapped? Or did something else happen?

The characters are compelling and felt three-dimensional and very relatable. The reader gets a feeling for both the professional and personal lives of the two main characters without the personal aspect derailing the main focus of the book. The sense of urgency to find the missing child kept me engaged throughout the book. The plot was clever, intense, suspenseful and absorbing. The prose is engaging, fast-paced, and compulsively readable. There are a number of themes running through this novel including kidnapping, family relationships, divorce, lies, communication, a bit of romance, jealousy and much more that isn’t listed due to them being spoilers.

Overall, this series continues to be the best police procedural series that I have read in a long time. The plot was intriguing, suspenseful, ominous and well-paced. I would recommend it to those that enjoy police procedural novels. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.

Many thanks to Harlequin – Trade Publishing (US & Canada) / Mira and Beverly Long for a complimentary digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley and the opportunity to provide an honest review. Opinions are mine alone and are not biased in any way.

I loved this sequel! It was so nice to return and be reunited with the dynamic duo! I love this detective team and their newest case is a head scratcher. I was perplexed throughout and couldn’t figure out “who dunnit”. The author plotted an amazing story and leaves you guessing everyone because you just can’t figure it out! This is the type of story I love- intriguing case and a slew of interesting characters. I had the mystery pinned on every character at some point in the book. The conclusion was well done and wrapped up all of my questions. I look forward to continuing on with this series and this fabulous detective team! My thanks to the publisher for the advance reader in exchange for my honest review.

"No One Saw" is the story of a missing five year old and the police officers trying to find her. Overall, the author (Beverly Long) did great job creating tension and suspense throughout this story - and especially towards the end, you'll find yourself frantically flipping the pages as the book hurtles towards its dramatic ending.

While this ending is very strong, I would caution readers that it does lag sightly in the middle - and there are many, many frustrating red herrings as the police officers return work the case. That said, this was a very fast paced read and overall, it's worth a shot (pun intended).

Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the chance to read this mystery/thriller!

This was a good one! A young child goes missing from her daycare, but after reviewing all of the evidence and witnesses, there seems to be no possible way that it could have happened. But it did! It's not just that someone is telling lies, but that each person has others to back them up, confirming they are being truthful. There are plenty of suspects - the parents, the grandmother, the daycare workers, parents of the other children. But how can everyone have an alibi and yet still the girl disappeared? Now Detective McKittridge and his partner, Rena Morgan, need to sift through everything and everyone to determine what on earth is going on..

They soon find that there was a similar case some years back where another young girl vanished without a trace. Is this new case connected? Or are the detectives chasing down leads leading to nowhere? You will find yourself just as frustrated as the detectives in trying to unravel this mystery. The story really is a page-turner, as there doesn't seem to be any explanation and you will be dying to figure out who is behind everything and why. Once you do, you won't be disappointed!

This is the second book of a series, and I hadn't read the first one - but that's not a problem. It's a typical procedural story, with the detectives, their team and the other trained professionals they work alongside. So it's a familiar framework, and while I didn't dislike the characters, I can't say that any of them resonated with me enough that I'd remember specific traits about them in the future. When you read so many of the same type of books, it can be tough to keep them all straight and remember who has done what when you reach the next book in the series. I would keep reading more of these - perhaps I just need more time with the characters for them to leave a lasting impression..

I received a copy of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley.

4.5* rounded up. This is the best police procedural I have read for ages. It concerns the disappearance of a 5 year old girl: her grandmother claims she dropped her off at her daycare; her teacher says she never arrived. Detectives A.L. and Rena work well together, the plot made sense and moved quickly. There was a certain amount of focus on A.L. and Rena's respective personal lives, and I think some of this had been covered already in the first instalment, which I have not read, but it added to the plot by making them seem like real people with normal home lives, rather than acting as a distraction.

I am deducting half a star as there were elements of the final explanation which it was impossible for the reader to have deduced. Nevertheless, highly recommended.
