This was such a cute and relatable story that I recommend reading if you ever feel like devouring a story in one sitting.
I loved Cassandra Calin's extremely relatable and quirky cute comics before picking this book up, and this book reaffirmed that love.
I was unfamiliar with Calin's work prior to this book, which is a shame. These comics are clever and detailed. The observations aren't especially wild nor the wit especially sharp. They are simple observations and provide simple entertainment.
In this collection, Cassandra Calin documents my everyday struggles. Just kidding, they are hers, but they are so relatable I felt like I talked to a friend on the phone, and she wrote a comic about our conversation.
From a series of “Expectations vs. Reality” drawings to her obsession with Bob Ross, I kept texting my best friend saying “This is us!” It’s a perfect comic for quarantine, because we’re all in isolation, but some of us aren’t too upset about it. Even introverts need to leave the house once in a while, I guess. Or whatever.
It’s been out for a few days now, so add it to your quarantine reading for a smile.
I had seen Cassandra Calin's work online (especifically on Instagram) and I was a huge fan of her work so when I saw that NetGalley had an arc of this book, I had to request a copy! Her comics are so relatable and funny, and I love her art style. I definetely want to purchase a copy and buy her other books. Big fan.
I received an e-ARC of this book from Cassandra Calin, and Andrews McMeel Publishing through NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
I love Cassandra’s comics; they always manage to make me laugh out loud. I especially love her Expectation vs. Reality comics; they are spot on! My favorite comics in this book were the dress with pockets, opening a jar, and the period conversation, they all made me laugh so hard the husband came into the room to see what I was reading. My husband and I saw a lot of similarities in our relationship with the characters in these comics.
Everyone should read this book and pull it out again when they are having a rough day.
A cute little collection of slice-of-life comics, mostly centered around hair problems, constantly feeling cold, and cute relationship moments.
I felt a weird discrepancy with this book in that I could relate to so many of the situations (frizzy hair; ALLL the ones with spiders, eek!), but the humor didn't really gel with me. I kept expecting it to be more... funny, or biting, or self-deprecating? Instead, the punchlines often fell flat to me.
Still, it's a fun collection that a lot of people will be able to relate to.
As a long time fan of Cassandra Calin and her comics, this book was a delight! What I loved most about it is that while this was a short read, I felt seen. This book was not just relatable, it spoke to me, to the person I am when I am alone and can be myself. Calin depicts in her comics struggles and daily occurrences that I am sure many of her readers and fans will be familiar with: being afraid of answering the phone when it rings (as though it were a ticking time bomb that you had to run away from), the struggle of expecting a make-up look or outfit to come out looking a certain way but in reality ending up looking completely different, and being tired all the time (because who isn't?)
I recommend this book to everyone, it is funny and very well done, and at least for a short while it is bound to brighten up your world a little bit.
I Left The House today is a cute collection of comics about a college aged character dealing with daily life. This collection features comics from all 4 seasons and lots of scenarios that readers can relate to. Readers of Sarah's Scribbles and Dami Lee will find a similar style here. The line drawings were gorgeously done.
I loved this so much. It was such a delight to read, funny and relatable. Some may find this annoying and non original but as the focus audience I loved every panel. Not only is the art very cute, the lines are so true. Delighted that I was able to read this on publishing day. Well done Cassandra!
This book kept growing and growing on me until I started laughing out loudly. It has a particular, dry sense of humour which I find hilarious. Relatable situations such as choosing an outfit, a bad hair groundhog day (again and again), realising that the reality is usually very far from our expectations and lots of others.
Thank you to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the ARC provided in exchange for an honest opinion.
Calin's art is SO fantastically expressive, and her line work is to die for. Combined with a fantastic sense for comedic timing, her comics are something really special. I laughed out loud several times.
Thank you to the publisher and #NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. Considering the title and the toilet paper roll castle, this book seems eerily ironic given the current state of the world. However, do not let those facts fool you. Cassandra Calin's wonderfully astute humor and superior artistic renderings (the detail of the hair is amazing!) makes this publication a joyful escape.
I just love Cassandra's drawing they are so cute and funny.
I laughed a lot reading there one, read it so fast too, I have to recommend it to everyone. People, just read these, you will enjoy it so much.
This was such an adorable read! I was smiling and laughing too much at the illustrations as they were too cute and relatable. Cassandra Calin was able to make me feel that I am not alone in my daily struggles. Something I picked up from several pages of this book is that we always choose to believe in our high expectations, but in the end, reality (whether it is a positive or a negative thing) hits us very hard. Although there were a few panels I didn't connect to, nevertheless, it certainly feels like she was reading my mind because of how accurate and relatable it is. I surely had the greatest time reading and witnessing Calin's art.
I absolutely adore this book! There are so many parts where i can relate to the characters and there are some parts that made me laugh so hard haha. I wish this were longer!
Cassandra Caitlin does a great job capturing the little realities of life. This book made me laugh and also feel a little too seen 🤣. It's definitely a short read but a book I'd reread whenever I need a pick me up. My favorites are the expectations vs reality posts. It'd be a great gift for your favorite homebody!

I loved this! The art style is cute, but the author/artist still manages to get the feeling of grossness across so well. I thought this was going to be a book cracking jokes about being an introverted hermit, but I was surprised by the range of topics covered. The content is very relatable, especially as a mid-20s cis-gendered woman. Binged the entire book in one sitting, and I look forward to her future releases!
I probably should be embarrassed by how relatable I found a lot of these comics. Sure, there were also a fair few that I personally didn’t relate to, but overall I haven’t felt so seen since Debbie Tung’s Quiet Girl in a Noisy World and Book Love. You know the kind of seen I’m talking about: the kind where you’re not entirely sure that the artist hasn’t been covertly following you and drawing your life for all the world to see.
Taking on a range of everyday occurrences, including the quest for adequate makeup, having your expectations and reality diverge just a teensy bit and the equally horrific experiences of losing sight of the spider someone else was going to take care of for you and someone calling your home phone.
A lot of comics had me nodding in agreement and others had me chuckling. There were a couple that went over my head but not enough to dampen my enjoyment. I just wish there were at least another 50 pages because it felt like I’d only just begun when I reached the final page.
Thank you so much to NetGalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for the opportunity to read this graphic novel.
I love and follow Cassandra, and looked forward to this collection. It is a delightful little book of comics–especially enjoyed the expectations vs reality scenes!
