This is the 4th mystery in the "Dog Club" mystery series. I enjoy this series as its smart writing and of course the dogs are wonderful. Thank you to the publisher and to Net Galley for the opportunity. My review opinion is my own. This is a favorite pet cozy.
We return to our intripd dog lover Lilly who has taken on a new foster poodle after its owner was murdered at a fundraiser . The owner was wealthy and now his dog and Lilly are in danger. After dog napping attempts Lilly puts on her investigative hat to find the suspect and save the victims dog who she has decided to adopt. The suspects are many and red herrings abound as Lilly is a tenacious in finding the answers.
The dogs featured in this series are a delight, Lilly is a smart protagonist who always solves the case with help of her friends , human and canine alike. The supporting charcters all add to the fun with her cast of friends . I enjoy returning to this fun series and always look forward to the next release.
Paw and Order by V. M. Burns is the 4th book in the Dog Club Mystery, and another wonderful addition. I have enjoyed this author's Mystery Bookshop series, and the other books in Dog Club Mystery series. Ms. Burns is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors. Lilly Echosby move to Florida after her husband left her. Lilly's has a toy poodle is named Agatha Christie, and she can be a handful. Good thing Lilly best friend, Dixie, trains dogs. During a fundraiser for poodles, billionaire Archibald Lowry is killed leaving behind his beloved poodle. Dixie talks Lillly into taking the dog and fostering him. There is so much going on in this book, between her friends, her work place, her boyfriend, and the murder, you just can't be bored by this book. I found this book to be a quick read, with a well developed plot and characters. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series. If you love cozy and fun mysteries, I strongly recommend this book/series.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
An engaging and entertaining cozy mystery. V. M. Burns makes me want to move to Chattanooga and get a poodle or two. Of course, I would also want to become one of Lilly's group of friends. A clever mystery that kept me guessing even when I decided I had figured out the big picture, the actual culprit still was a surprise. Enjoyed catching the clues interspersed throughout. I look forward to reading their further adventures.
Poor Rex the poodle! First his owner Archibald Lowry is murdered and now someone is trying to kidnap him! But who and why? That's the question Lily and Dixie have to answer in this latest installment in a fun cozy series featuring mature heroines and, of course, dogs. Cozy readers know that there's more than one things going on here but might enjoy this just as much for the characters as the plot. Lily and Dixie make a great team- Dixie's a hoot and Lily's more restrained. Lily has a nice relationship with Red (it's growing on both of them) and she's trying hard to keep her mouth shut about her daughter Stephanie's life. Very realistic and it also takes good advantage of the area. Can Lily keep Rex safe? You know she will, don't you- and that's not a spoiler. Thanks to Netgalley for the ARC. A fun read.
Paw and Order is a delightful cozy mystery. Even though I hadn’t read the earlier installments I had no problems catching up with who was who. This story features wonderfully quirky supporting characters and suspects, an enthralling who done it all while being surrounded by dogs of all stripes. I’ll be checking out the books I’d missed and looking forward to future installments with Lilly and the gang.
Excellent Dog Centered Cozy Mystery
This is a very satisfying cozy mystery. The story takes place in Chattanooga, TN, and centers around dogs. The main characters are completely likable. While it is a nice and clean cozy, there is no excess attention paid to food, fashion, or wine pairings. There are plenty of poodles of all sizes and well as hounds, shepherds, and pit mixes. I have read other books in the series, each book can stand alone without issue. I love this author's books! She has quite a way with words and can draw the reader into her world very quickly. I received this ARC book for free from Net Galley and this is my honest review.

Synopsis:
Dog-loving divorcée and amateur sleuth Lilly Echosby is not the only one who wants her new foster poodle. Some are willing to kill to have him . . .
Lilly's best pal Scarlett “Dixie” Jefferson has done it again! She’s convinced eccentric poodle-loving billionaire Archibald Lowry to sponsor a grand fundraiser for the Eastern Tennessee Poodle Rescue. Tragically, it’s too late to rescue Lowry, who is murdered at the event. His pet poodle is now orphaned, so Dixie begs Lilly to foster the adorable pup. Of course, she already has a poodle—her beloved Aggie, named after Agatha Christie. Fortunately, Aggie seems to like the new addition to the family, whom Lilly renames Rex, after her second favorite mystery author, Rex Stout.
But she’s barely welcomed Rex into her home when there’s an attempted poodle-nabbing, foiled with Aggie’s help. As desperate characters try to get their hands on the canine cutie, Lilly turns to Dixie’s dog training class to help her sort through a litter of suspects. Ultimately, she may have to unleash Rex as bait to collar the killer . . . (Amazon)
Review:
The characters are well developed, well rounded and three dimensional. I so enjoy the relationship between Lilly and Dixie, her best friend. They are always ready for a good time, but they can be serious if need be. They are known to track down killers when it is necessary, and unfortunately it is needed now. I enjoyed getting to spend time with Lilly’s daughter and Red, Lilly's boyfriend.
The mystery is well plotted and there were enough clues to sift through and suspects to consider. I did not know for sure who the killer was until the reveal at the end.
The writing style flows smoothly and the book is an easy read. The author is very talented in her descriptive writing and it helped bring the book to life in my mind.
I would highly recommend this book (and series) to anyone who enjoys a well crafted cozy mystery. I cannot wait to see what happens next with Lilly and her friends.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book provided by the publisher, Kensington Books, and NetGalley, which I greatly appreciate.
V.M Burns never disappoints or fails to deliver and engrossing and entertaining story.
This is an excellent addition to an excellent series, fun to read and well written.
It's great to meet old and new characters and read about the development in their life. The new dog is lovely and made me wish I owned one like him.
The mystery is solid, full of twists and turns, and the solution was action packed and satisfying.
If you haven't read any book in this series please do it as it's highly recommended.
Many thanks to the Kensington Books and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
Lilly Ann Echosby moved from Indiana to a new life in Chattanooga,TN where she became involved in a local poodle rescue. Lilly’s poodle is Aggie (after Agatha Christie). She’s a little thing but feisty and full of heart and personality. Lilly is thrilled to be hosting an event for the poodle rescue at the museum where she’s employed when a tiny poodle with bloody paws shuts down the event after he leads the curious back to the murdered billionaire sponsor for the event. Lilly is asked to foster the little thing until they can square away the details of the deceased. Of course, Lilly falls in love with him and promptly renames him Rex (after Rex Stout).
Lilly has a cadre of great friends and support that lend a sleuthing effort to solve the canine caper, and the reader is introduced to Stephanie, her daughter who arrived for an impromptu visit,. Lilly’s romantic interest. Red is in law enforcement.
Lilly is a great character as is Dixie, dog show judge-trainer and owner of a dog castle RV, and there are interesting tidbits of dog speak, which I always enjoy.
My first experience with this series, albeit not the author, and the storyline moves at a cozy pace while including the mystery with the appealing friend associates. There are details that bother me, including whipping around in an RV for errands and the conclusion that I found a bit contrived and not wrapping up all the loose threads.
Receiving this digital ARC download from the publisher and NetGalley did not affect my opinion of the book or the content and this is my honest opinion. Recommended for all who enjoy cozy mysteries, especially including dogs.
This is my first time reading a book by this author and I was not disappointed. Cozy mystery genre is new to me. I was always use to reading thrillers, mystery and suspense storylines with sinister characters. I like how with cozy mysteries you get a little of the sinister, detective, suspense, plot twist and laughs in the storyline and it’s characters.
Lilly is attending a fundraiser for her good friend Dixie’s Eastern Tennessee Poodles Rescue Association, while there Lilly finds the dead body of Archibald Lowry a philanthropist that has backed this fundraiser and his dog poodle Indulf/Rex. Now that Rex’s owner has died Lilly takes him to stay with her and her poodle dog Aggie.
Someone tries to several times to kidnap Rex and Lilly, her boyfriend Red who is a cop and her friends set out to find out what is the connection of the suspects and wanting Rex. I don’t want to give to much away and spoilers.
This was a fast pack read with some plots and twists, which left me surprised as to who was the killer and why. I look forward to reading more books by this author.
I highly recommend this book to read especially if you like the cozy mystery genre.

I received a Arc from Netgalley for review and this review is of my own honest opinion and thoughts.

There's a new puppy in Lilly's life and his name is Rex (formerly Indulf). His path to Lilly's heart and home is, of course, murder. Lilly has offered her best friend Dixie the use of the museum for her poodle rescue gala event. Things are going well until a very strange and eccentric really rich old man shows up with his poodle puppy. He was invited by Dixie but everyone is very surprised that he showed up. Too bad his killer did as well. He meets his maker in one of the galleries and Lilly has a new dog in her life and a killer to catch.
I so enjoy spending time with Lilly and Dixie. I have known the joy of having a standard poodle as a companion and this series brings back wonderful memories. Dixie and Lilly make a great investigating team. Lilly's daughter, a lawyer, adds her talents to the investigation. With the consent of Red, the investigation officer who is also Lilly's boyfriend and some help from Stephanie's boyfriend, Joe, it's all hands on deck to find the killer and figure out why somebody is trying to dognap sweet little Rex.
The puzzle is well crafted, the characters are well developed and are people I like to hang out with - but only Lilly and her family and friends. If I ever found myself in trouble I'd like to have Lilly and Dixie in my corner. Plus the dogs, of course.
My thanks to the publisher Lyrical Press and to NetGalley for giving me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review.
Paws And Order is the fourth book in the A Dog Club Mystery series.
Lily Echosby’s best friend Dixie is heading up the Eastern Tennessee Poodle Rescue Association fundraiser and has asked Lily to help at the gala event at The Chattanooga Museum. The event’s Guest of Honor is recluse and millionaire Archibald Lowry. As the guests are arriving, Lily sees a man who appears to be a homeless person and she goes in search of Dixie, but it turns out to be Lowry. A short time later Lily hears a lady screaming and runs toward the scream. When Lily arrives she finds Lowry has been stabbed and is dead. Dixie asks Lily to take Lowry’s puppy, Indulf, while the police do their investigation. While the police investigate, Dixie and Lily, discuss tomorrow events. There was to be a silent auction and dog trials at Lowry’s estate. They decide that Lowry would want them to go on as planned. Before the police release everyone, an attempt is made to steal Indulf.
The next day Dixie’s dog club members have been assembled and are putting their dogs through various examples of dog training. The silent auction is doing well. But there have been a couple more attempts to steal Lowry’s dog, who Lily has renamed Rex. But then, there was also another murder, one of Lowry’s employees has met an early demise.
Lily begins to wonder if the attempts to steal Rex have anything to do with the deaths that have recently occurred. Lily, Dixie, and the members of Dixie’s dog club will put their heads together to help the police with their investigation.
The romance continues to blossom for Lily and Red, but maybe not so much for her daughter Stephanie. Stephanie and her boyfriend have come across a few bumps in the road and she has decided some time away might help. It’s difficult for Lily not to offer advice, but it’s nice to have Stephanie around to help find the murderer.
The book is well-written and plotted with an interesting cast of developed and believable characters. I particularly enjoyed reading about the interaction of pups as they frolic with each other and as they are put through their paces in the trials.
I am anxiously awaiting the next book in this great series.
Paw and Order - A Dog Club Mystery // by V.M. Burns
Lillie Ann Echosby is enjoying her quiet life in Chattanooga, Tn, and is excited to be hosting an important event for a poodle rescue at the museum where she works. After the shocking discovery of a murder, she is asked to foster the victim's poodle puppy, which she hesitantly agrees to. Of course, she falls head over heels in love with the little one and quickly adopts the adorable pup, renaming him after a favorite book character of hers - Rex. After several failed attempts of kidnapping of little Rex, Lillie becomes suspicious and starts to investigate the murder herself with the help of her dog club friends.
Paw and Order by V.M. Burns is a cute cozy mystery set in Chattanooga, Tn, an area I enjoy having in my books because it always gives me a cozy, homey feel. Lillie is a likable character with a supportive friend group that instantly makes you want to be a part of it too. While parts of the story bothered me a little (like a coroner giving them information about a murder, which should be confidential at least during the investigation), if you look past those little things, this was a really cute story that also included little bits of dog-related advice that can help dog owners in real life. I have personally not read many mysteries yet but this did make me want to dive in a little more into the genre.
Thank you to the author, publisher, and NetGalley for a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Thank you to Netgalley, Kensington Publishing, and V.M.Burns for the ARC e book to review.
This is another great cosy mystery by V.M.Burns. We meet up with Lilly Ann and Dixie again. Lilly Ann has been roped in by Dixie to help her run a weekend fundraiser for dogs. At the first event – a party being held in a gallery – there is a murder of an old scruffy man. Lilly Ann ends up looking after the man’s dog and various things happen that involve the dog. Because another event of the weekend is taking place at the dead man’s house, Lilly Ann and Dixie along with some of their puppy dog training class mates try to help the police to investigate the murder.
I loved that the dogs played such an important part in the story. The characters were well written and you felt you got the know them all well.
I would recommend this and any other V.M. Burns book as they are just such good reads.
Okay, any book that involves animals, especially dogs, is an automatic read for me. And this book is not an exemption. The story is mysterious and very entertaining. I like the relationship between the humans and the dogs—very diverse characters who have fantastic camaraderie. I have nothing but praise for this book. It is engaging and enjoyable.
Book 4 in the Dog Club Mystery series by V. M. Burns. I have read the first three which is not a requirement to enjoy this book. I can always count on V. M. Burns to deliver a delightful mystery with touches of humor.
In this episode, we find Lilly with a new love. She didn’t plan it but it happens. Rex is so delightful and Aggie just takes to him.
I like how Lilly’s group of loved ones and friends all band together to solve the shady business behind Archie’s death.
Awaiting another adventure.
A fun cozy mystery story. Although this is book 4, it is the first I've read in the series and I had no trouble keeping up. Fun characters and of course plenty of dogs makes for an easy read. Fast paced and would make a great summer read. Would highly recommend this book and author.
Loved this book! This is a very entertaining series! I loved the fun new characters introduced in this story. Good mystery. Great ending! Can't wait for the next one!
What can I say about this book? It's excellent! The plot is wonderfully written with enough twists, turns, and action to keep the reader on thekr toes and entertained. Much of it runs through the mind like a movie. Lilly, Red and the gang are like family that you wish would visit more. I can't wait to visit with them sometime again soon!
This one is for dog lovers in general and poodle lovers in particular. If features a divorcee and amateur detective (what else….after all this is a cozy) Lilly Echosby and her group of equally devoted dog lover friends and family members who become embroiled in an investigation into the murder of Archibald Lowry, loner billionaire who had agreed to sponsor their current fundraiser at his palatial estate. No one knows how Lowry amassed his great fortune, they only know he is a dog lover.
Lowry’s death leaves his poodle “orphaned” so Lilly agrees to foster the puppy and renames him Rex. Her current poodle Aggie is quite taken with the little guy and becomes a “big sister and protector”. By the way Aggie and Rex are named after Lilly’s favorite mystery writers – Agatha Christie and Rex Stout.
This is an engaging but not very complex mystery bolstered by an appealing cast of characters and their furry sidekicks that moves forward with a minimum of surprises and a couple of twists.
