This was a very informative graphic novel. I really love war histories and thought this would be a different way of learning more. The art was great and it was a heavier read due to the amount of information. Although it takes a while to get through it is well worth the read. My favorite was the Battle of Midway story. Another bonus that is included is a written part about each battle. I really appreciated this because if you didn't quite understand everything from the graphic novel you could read more about it at the end.
Thank you to NetGalley, Jean-Yves Delittle, and Guiseppe Baiguera, for the chance to review the book.
I've read war comics off and on since I was seven or eight years old. While the artwork in the comics in this book was beautiful, two of the three stories were pretty slow and dull, and I found it hard to keep attention on the stories. I did enjoy the historical analyses for the battles addressed in the comics, which was included at the end of the book as a separate feature. I feel like the artwork should compel a higher star rating, but the stories themselves just were not sufficiently compelling. With such significant battle about which to write, I felt that better action should have developed in the comics. The artwork alone is sufficient to warrant purchase of the book, but I would perhaps read the stories one at a time, rather than all at once, as that might reduce the feeling of the stories plodding along.
I was disappointed with this book. I expected a book discussing the three battles and instead got a comic book. The stories were okay, but seemed to lack a lot of detail and explanations for the battles. Not what I expected.
Thank you to #NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
Good artwork, great stories. I would buy a hardcopy of this graphic novel. My favorite was Midway.
