This was a simple little book about the value of our friends. I thought the pictures were a little dark, but that may have been the way they looked on my ereader.

ar away, on the other side of the mountains, there lived a little wolf. He read big books. He discovered new starts. He knew every herb. He knew everything! Because he knew so much, almost everyone called him Little Wise Wolf. And that made him feel rather proud.

Little Wise Wolf loved to read and learn. He didn't have time for friends or to go anywhere. He didn't want to be bothered. However, when the King requested his wisdom to help get well, Little Wise Wolf was not to keen. His neighbors urged him to go. In his journey, he realized two things. He didn't know has much as he thought and he needed friends.

The illustrations pull you into Little Wise Wolf world, the joy of reading and of friends.

So happy that this title was translated into English! A lovely tale about a know-it-all who learns about the importance of community. Stunning illustrations to pore over.

What a great book! I love the lesson it teaches about the importance of friends and being loyal to your friends. Little Wise Wolf gets his name because he reads many books and seems to know everything. All the other animals seek knowledge from him, but he has little time for others. He discovers the necessity of friends though when he becomes lost and lonely searching for the king. This book is good for children of all ages. It teaches an invaluable lesson that it is ok to ask for a help and rely on others.

First things first, the pictures for this book were pretty cool! They looked like chalk drawings - all smudgy and surreal. I haven't seen too many kids books with pictures like this so I'll remember the book on that point alone. However, the text wasn't as fun as the illustrations, it was stilted and the little wise wolf was actually pretty arrogant before he learns his lesson through the kindness of the other animals. I guess my issue with this book - and what stopped me rating it higher - is that there's nothing new here. The story felt like something I'd read a million times before.

I requested and received an e-ARC of this book from NetGalley and Kids Can Press in exchange for my honest review.

This is the story of Little Wise Wolf; he is always reading books (I feel like we can all relate to that part) and discovering new things. His friends are always asking for help and he always tells them he is too busy. One day the King gets sick and tells Little Wise Wolf he must come and make him better. Little Wise Wolf thinks he can do it all on his own because he is so smart, but this book teaches us that we always need our friends no matter how smart we are.

"Little Wise Wolf" by Gijs van der Hammen is a children's book that follows the story of a little wolf who loves to read and learn. The little wise wolf just wants to be left alone so that he can learn as much as possible. However, the little wise wolf is about to ask the question: is it better to interact with community members or be intelligent but isolated?

This story was cute and fun to read with the family. The story line was easy to follow along with but I don't feel that the connection between the king experience and the wolf's interpersonal relationships was very clear. That aspect could have been improved in order to drive home the point of community connection. We thought the illustrations were different from most children's art work and we enjoyed them for that reason. Also, we loved the fact that the little wise wolf cycled his way to the King. Overall, we enjoyed the story and the main character!

Little Wise Wolf reads a lot of books, which is how he earned his name One day, he's summoned to help an ailing king, but he might not be as smart as everyone thinks he is...

This book is a great picture book with lots of story packed in! I think grade one through four would really enjoy this book, and parents might even enjoy it too!

The only thing that got me was that I figured there might be an interesting theme to this, but it didn't stand out much. When our friend is called to help the King, he just decides to go home and make friends. I was hoping maybe he'd look up how to help the King in a book, or ask his friends for help or... well, something else then just running home. I'm sure you can swing this into a story about friendship, but it didn't sit well with me. I didn't understand why the ending was the way it was.

The art style is soft and sweet, and I think it fit well with the story. It's so whimsical and beautiful, and not in a style I see often.

Three out of five stars.

This book has the most beautiful illustrations, and I am completed besotted with the wolves red boots!

This is a lovely English translation from the original in Dutch.

A predictable story, similar to many others we've read, but that doesn't make it less important. Messages about being able to give and accept help from others and that there are difference types of intelligence never go astray.

But really, those drawings - gorgeous!

This is a cute story about a wolf named Little Wise Wolf who spends all of his time reading and educating himself. He rarely has time for anything else—not even his friends.

“Little Wise Wolf!” called the bear. “What do butterflies eat?”

“I don’t have time for your questions,” he muttered.

One day, Little Wise Wolf is summoned by the king, and he sets out on a long journey to the castle. On the way he discovers that being alone isn’t so great after all.

Beyond the enchanting illustrations and cute little characters, there’s an important message for young readers about friendship. We did enjoy the book, but I wish the ending wouldn’t have been so abrupt. Overall, it’s a wonderful children’s book that we’ll add to our collection.

Little Wise Wolf prides himself for his intellectual superiority over all the forest animals. He fills his days with reading books has no time to answer questions or help his forest friends. One day, he receives an invitation from the king. The king is ill and needs LIttle Wise Wolf’s help. After originally declining the request, he has a change of heart and sets out to help the king. It’s a l-o-n-g way off. After bicycling, walking, and climbing mountains, Little Wise Wolf is at the end of himself. Suddenly, eureka! He notices a tent and a campfire and food in the forest. Subsequently, he learns that his forest friends, the animals he was too busy to help previously are the very ones who came to his aid.

Ultimately, Little Wise Wolf reaches the castle and cures the king. Although invited to stay on, Little Wise Wolf returns to his home in the forest with a new understanding of the importance of helping those in need.

Beautifully illustrated, this one’s a keeper. A delightful addition to your children’s book collection. Five stars!

This is a cute story with pastel like drawing environment and a traced line drawign your eye to the movement in the page. Look at the red shoes of the fox (I have to say wolf.. but we read the whole story as fox). This reminds of a French saying I read about dusk "le loup et la renard" that time referred toa s dusk - the fox turning into the wolf.. where it gets scary and slightly out of control. (Now which book was that.) The author likes to wear the red shoes too.
Little Wise Wolf is like me always wanting to read books and then when friends ask for help, he is busydoing what he always does. He has cute friends like the white goat on the left. One day, the king calls him not for tea but his medicinal tea. At first wolf busy reading, tries to avoid it but the crow warns him, Off he sets to cross the big mountain. here the phrases were such that I could say half a sentence and my 5 year old could finish the sentences. Try that with little readers. Some are repetitions of prologed actions. Others are facts. I almost believed that the little one read this story at the school.
I was very surprised as my little one to find the king to be the Lion. ( A toned down alternative to Sher Khan from Mowgli, their last memory of King).
The older on eliked it when the friends helped. The younger one didnt like it when a particular friend didnt help. There's something for everyone. Rejoice.

Little wolf loves reading and learning but In his thirst for knowledge, he forgot one thing, his friends, he has no time to help them, to impart some of his knowledge he had gain from his books to assist them, no, he didn’t even have the time to teach them to read, he became so caught up in his wise image, such simple little things bypass him. They thought him what true friendship was all about thereby teaching him his greatest lesson. A wise educative and fun read.

A sweet book about a wolf who loves to read and learn about everything. Though he is very knowledgeable, he is arrogant, unhelpful, and withdrawn at first. The story follows him realizing the importance of helping and learning from others. It is a book that will surely encourage children and even adults to expand their comfort zones and connect with others.

Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing this ARC.

So this is a book about wise wolf that loves reading and "wise" because he knows so much. But honestly, he is arrogant in my opinion. Because he is busy to make himself wise by learning and reading more, he did not have time to answers or even wanting to help others. He simply closed the door to everyone who needed him. Until a letter came saying that the king is ill and he have no choice but to help him. And the story continues...

This is a story that teaches about how important it is to be humble. That no matter how smart or wise you are, you'd need that connection with those around you. You'd at some point in life need someone else. Your wisdom & knowledge would be needed to help others as well :)

A good book for kids that would bring a great conversation.

First of all I would like to say I'm in love with the illustration, art and color palette of this book.
This is the story of a wolf who enjoy to read big books and he's so busy reading and learning that he has no time for the other animals of the forest.
One day he's summoned by the ill king that needs help. During his travel the wolf realises the importance of friendship, selflessness.and cooperation.
The message is powerful and the book really delightful

I am totally in love with this little book!! I adore the illustrations.

The story itself is about a little wise wolf who is book smart but makes no time for anyone or anything but reading. He is summoned to help the king who has fallen ill. But regardless of how smart he is, he struggles to get there. The other animals come to his aid even though he has consistently brushed their needs and questions aside in the past. He quickly learns the valuable lesson that no matter how much one knows they are always capable to learn more. He also learns that everyone has something of value that they can teach to someone else.

I think this story can teach young readers the importance of being kind and helping others. And also that knowledge comes from many things, not just books but from others and experiences.
