I wasn't aware that this was the second book in a series. So, obviously, I was missing some information.

A little more backstory would have been nice, but it was my oversight that this was not the first book in a series, so I'm not going to hold this against the book/author. It just didn't make for an easy start reading the novel, since I had to find out who is who.

An interesting short sci-fi novel including nanites and super soldiers, space travel and carbon composite wings.

i had a lot of fun reading this book, I had enjoyed the first book in the series and getting to know Genevieve, it had what I was looking for in the sequel and I really enjoyed reading this.

Fantastic sci-fi smooches. Nanotechnology, space travel. wings, super soldiers, and romance. I really enjoyed this short book. I think reading the first in the series would enhance the enjoyment of this but isn’t required to follow the plot.

Genevieve is a woman trying to survive the empires machinations after becoming an accidental install. Attempting to subvert the nanotechnology in the retired soldiers without making them lose their will to live. Leaning on her partner and friends the action is nonstop. All while juggling how she came to be a part of the pax Roman Empire.

Silly

In the first book Genevieve is tasked with sneaking into a secret military base and releasing malware that will destroy the nanite-altered soldiers of the evil empire. Instead she abandons that plan, turns the malware over to the military scientists, and starts a research program on reversing the nanite mods. None years later military higher ups forcibly remove her from the base and in a panic she releases another bit of malware that she just happened to have tucked away in her research protocols. This malware races across the military coms (poor antivirus programs here) wiping out the genetically altered soldiers across the known universe – except for her own band who somehow don't get infected. I found the whole thing silly and stopped reading.

This is the second book in a series. Because of that, there is a lot of backstory that I needed that I didn't have in order to fully understand the story. It's also more sci fi than romance, in my opinion. Not my cup of tea, but others may enjoy.

This novel continues 9 years after the first novel, Clean Install, ended. Genevieve is still working hard to try and remove the nanites from those infected so they can return to a normal life, along with her partner Pyrus, as well as Carex and Eriope. Genevieve was gotten some results, but it is not enough. However, some are curious about her research and believe she working with the Resistance. As a result, she is taken prisoner and needs to find a way to escape. Genevieve will reunite with her past and answer for the secrets she kept.
I received this novel from net galley and the publisher as an ARC. Thank you! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
