A simple sweet novel . Sometimes slow sometimes funny. Pleasant and light reading. Happy ending can be a great summer or holiday read
This is a charming story of one woman finding herself by embarking on a journey to follow her dream of opening up her own bookshop. After Nina, a book loving librarian, finds out her beloved library is closing, she sets off on a life changing journey. She purchases a large van and prepares a mobile book van. Unable to set it up in her hometown, she moves to the Scottish Highlands and rents a furnished barn from a local farmer. Born and raised a city girl, Nina discovers she loves the country life, and her blossoming mobile book business is booming in an area long starved of books. Following her passion Nina discovers new friendships, and new love interests. She discovers all sorts of things she never knew she was missing in the big city life she always knew. This is book one, so there should be more to come, and I look forward to continuing the storyline. Review posted to Goodreads, Librarything, Litsy, Facebook, and Amazon
I received this ebook in exchange for a fair and honest review. I enjoyed getting to know Nina and the fact that she was brave enough to follow her dreams and match books to the person they match.
The Bookshop on the Corner is a sweet, charming read. Setting is important to me in the books that I read and what could be better than a small town in Scotland? It also doesn't hurt that the main character is a librarian who is fabulous at matching books to their readers. This book is one that I recommend often.
I’ve just returned from a delightful journey to a tiny village in Scotland. Well, thanks to Jenny Colgan I got to travel there in my mind and, yes, in my heart as well. To say this book is wonderful is not enough. It is the sweet, gentle, heroic, ordinary, heartbreaking, happy, and lovely adventure of a young woman who loves books.
The ending was predictable but I still looked forward to what I knew was going to happen. Some books must end with a ‘happily ever after’ and this was definitely one of those, so, if you are not interested in romance and happy endings then you are reading the wrong book but if you enjoy the journey to the happy ending then you are reading the right book.
The characters were interesting and very diverse and very well written. Even the one who, well I’m not going to tell you, but even the one I shouldn’t have liked I couldn’t help but like anyway. I loved the characters in this book and I look forward to reading the next book in the series to find out what happens next.
This was not a great huge epic of a book but it was the book that carried me away and right now we all could use a little of that magic.
Thank you to The Book Club Girls, NetGalley, William Morrow HarperCollins Publishers and the author Jenny Colgan.
I really loved this sweet book. I would consider this to be women's fiction, which is one of my favorite genres. The characters were well written . The story was well developed.
I read the second in this series first. Cute book. Makes me want to visit Scotland. Looking forward to more from her
The Bookshop on the Corner
What a treat this was to read. As a librarian I totally got Nina’s need for books and for finding that right book for someone. I mean who doesn’t love reading?
Nina is in a rut, the library she works in is closing and does she really want to work in a new library space called the media centre. It’s time for a change but is she strong and capable enough of making that change.
Along comes the idea of a Book Van and Nina’s life really does change every day.
I loved this book. It had a really good feel about it. There are wonderful characters to bond with and really any book about books is a good book.
There is humour, warmth, friendship, love and beautiful descriptions of Scotland’s scenery in this lovely easy read.
This was a charming story of a young woman who works in a library in Birmingham UK and is forced to look for a new position due to the encroaching takeover of electronic media. She is a shy, introverted woman who lives most of her life to date within her beloved books. She decides to take a chance on her dream job of opening her own bookstore and in the process moves to a small town in Scotland. Although the story line and ending are predictable, I find the author's descriptions of the setting very warm & inviting, and it is easy to become connected to the characters and this quaint town which symbolizes a quieter, less frantic lifestyle. I enjoyed the references to other books although some that seemed intriguing are apparently also fictional. This was an enjoyable light read & I would recommend for someone needing a break from darker more complicated novels.
I absolutely loved this book! It was a very enjoyable book that was heart warming to me and made me believe in going for your dreams no matter how unlikely they are. I loved the characters and the different things they brought to the story. Will definitely read it again
I found this book very inspirational. I love how Nina took a chance on herself to live out a dream in another country...on accident. The author's descriptive writting allowed me to imagine myself in the countryside of Scotland and I so wished to be there too. This book hit the spot of yearning for a simple life away from the hustle and bustle of the city to a place where everyone knows everyone. I plan to continue the series. Special thanks to the Book Club Girls for the copy.
Kick back, relax and enjoy this delightful story! Wish all cities had a mobile book shop with someone who can instantly connect you with the perfect book!
This book was a delight! I was drawn in just from the Message to the Readers. For anyone who loves books, books about books, books about selling books, or finding yourself and maybe someone along the way, you will enjoy this read. I found myself wishing the story wouldn’t end and wanting to visit Nina’s bookshop across the pond.
I LOVED this book!!!! It was such a cute story and I love Nina for taking those chances. One of my favorite parts is an elderly male customer discussing how its seems as if everyone is reading and Nina made that happen. I had a goofy smile on my face. I appreciated the romance in the story, not crude or exaggerated. Soulful. I recommend this book.
This was a sweet story that made me desperate to go Scotland and learn more about my heritage... very excited to read the next one and again, not disappointed with Jenny Colgan.
Cute, fun story. I did feel the main character change later in the story from a meek, naive, bookworm into such a bold, outgoing person was a bit too quick and I didn't necessarily buy that. I loved the setting and how it changed her outlook on herself, others, and life. Entertaining and fun, I would probably read the next in this series.
This booked seemed very long and sort of slow, but it did still keep my interest. It seemed very detailed and descriptive. I put the other books in the series on my to be read list. I was hoping for them to be more of the same characters, but it doesn’t appear to be so. Nevertheless, I still enjoyed the author’s writing and look forward to reading more.
The Book Shop On The Corner By Jenny Colgan. Young woman moves to a new town because the library she works at is closed.

I absolutely love a book about books! The book mobile also brought memories back from my days as a kid when my love for books started! Although we had a duly stocked library, the book mobile was parked outside of school during lunch time.
Well on to my review! I really enjoyed this light and fluffy book about Nina making a change and got wrapped up on her new life, her love of books and a love triangle. I loved the beautiful descriptions of Scotland,I found myself lost in such a well written storyline. I don’t know how I missed this gem but a special thank you to Book Club Girl, NetGalley and Jenny Colgan for this cute ebook for an honest exchange of my review!!

I really wanted to like The Bookshop on the Corner. It has a storyline that appeals to me - an introverted person that loves books and wants to share her love with them with everybody. And she gets to do it in a beautiful small town in Scotland around friendly people and good food to boot. But Nina comes across as overly insecure even when she's willing to abandon her home and move to Scotland. She comes across as a pushover that will let people walk all over her, and a hapless mess that people think is adorable and clean up after. And I don't feel any romantic connection despite two possible love interests in the books. It's like you have to be told she's in love with them, because it doesn't really come across in the writing. Her friend Griffin is annoying and feels like he exists to show the difference between someone (Nina) that really loves books and someone that's desperately just trying to collect a paycheck any way he can. Nina's friend Surinder manages to be the most redeeming thing in this book, although in pushing Nina to step outside her comfort zone, never really manages to take the plunge herself. Maybe if I hadn't gone in with the expectation that I would like this and it would be right up my alley I wouldn't have felt disappointed that it felt lacking in character development.
