I found this story quite engaging. A fine set up, a believable premise, interesting settings and an unpredictable outcome. Plenty of slow-burning tension with a rather satisfying conclusion which finally answered the growing questions raised as the story progressed.
Thank you for the opportunity to read this.
The Safe Place is the perfect summer thriller. It grabbed my attention from the very beginning and kept me flipping through the pages. Can't wait to read more from the author.
this story drew me in with its great plot and relatable characters and a twist I never saw coming.. Highly recommended reading.
This was alright. As others have mentioned a bit predictable. And Emily seemed extremely naive. Overall wasn’t really the thriller for me.
Great read, lots of twists and turns to keep you entertained.
Thank you NetGalley for my complimentary copy in return for my honest review.
A great read ... tense and frightening. Excellent story line and well written. Highly recommended. This novel is well worth five stars
Emily has hit rock bottom and has nowhere to turn. She has been fired from her job, dropped by her acting agent and is being evicted from her apartment.
Enter Scott, knight in shining armor, ready to save Emily, offering her the perfect job in a perfect location. But are things as perfect as they seem?
This debut was interesting and intriguing, if not a little predictable at times. Set in a perfect oasis, the tense undertones had me gripped from the beginning

Special thanks to Netgalley for providing me with this ARC in exchange for my honest opinion.
Unfortunately didn't get far in this one. The charter were unlikable. Only got few chapters in this one. I wanted to like it but just couldn't get into it.
Loved this one! So easy to read and lots ofntwists and turns along the way. Definitely a quick read and one I recommend.
3.75 🌟 I enjoyed this book and the characters but something fell a little flat for me. I still rated it pretty high because I was very interested and it was a fast read but I can't pinpoint what the issue was. I'm not sure if all of the questions were answered. Maybe some conclusive dialogue was missing... Closure... I'm not sure. And the ending jumped around a bit and I was a little confused but got the gist of the end. I'll definitely check out more by this author though.
This novel was a bit too much of a slow-burner for my taste and the plot’s events had plenty of potential but weren’t fully executed in a way to thrill me.

Emily is lost and confused. She’s lost her acting agent and her temp job. Her ex-boss, Scott, hires her to be a housekeeper/assistant to his wife and young daughter in France. No cell service and a NDA to not tell anyone where she’s at, sure why not? What could go wrong? The story had me turning pages but left me wanting a little more too. More development between the characters. If you’re ready for a suspenseful book to break up your summer beach reads, this is a good choice!
I received a copy of this ebook in exchange for an honest review
This was not what I thought it was going to be at all. I was really disappointed in it. I guess I was expecting more of a suspense novel and it was just kind of.. dull.
The Safe Place

It was gripping, entertaining, weird, but great! It’s definitely a fast enjoyable read! The character relationships will send you for a loop! It’s a great debut book and I’m excited to read more by this author
The Safe Place by Anna Downes is an intense summer thriller that looks into the lives of the rich. When Emily finds herself working at the estate of Scott and Nina as a housekeeper, it seems like the answer to her problems. However, as secrets and lies come to the surface, she realizes nothing is as it seems and she's not safe at all.
Many thanks to NetGalley, the author, and the publisher for providing me with a copy of this book. All thoughts are my own.

This is a true slow burner but a story with an intense development. Meet Emily who’s life is not going according to plan. In fact: nothing seems to work out. The rich Scott offers her a special job in France.
With nothing there to lose Emily leaves for a beautiful and remote place. Scott’s wife Nina and daughter Aurelia live there. Everything seems fine in the beginning but it soon she discovers that Scott and Nina have a secret not to be revealed; at least not by Emily.
thank you #Netgalley and #Minotaur Books for a copy of this book.
Fast paced book and I really enjoyed it. Good story line and I think people are gonna love it. I would definitely read again and recommend
I eagerly awaited THE SAFE PLACE, and it did not disappoint. Engaging almost to a fault (I stayed up way past my bedtime reading it), I strongly recommend this book for fans of the genre.
This was a good read, it was really predictable which made it less than lackluster. But the unfolding of the characters and the little girl/her own things she was dealing with. Was very interesting. The neighbors were suspicious, I was suspicious, but knew the plot less than half way in.
The perfect summer thriller for anyone! I LOVED this quick placed novel, one of my favorites of 2020. Downes' writing style is extremely unique. I flew through this book wanting more and more!
Emily Proudman has an absolutely terrible day. She looses her agent, job and house all in the same day. She is rather desperate and needs a change as soon as possible. If things don't change, they will only get worse. She accepts a summer job that is way under her paygrade as a housekeeper. This lifestyle change is an adjustment for Emily. She enjoys the family she is working for until she realizes their life in their French escape isn't as perfect as it seems.
