From the very first page, Martha Teichner’s captivating descriptions transported me to New York and the world that she lives in. I love it when I can visualize scenes as they unfold because the author is a born storyteller like Martha.

I appreciated how much the friendship between Martha and Carol blossomed. They were so different from each other but quickly became very close. Carol seems to be more of the life of any party, while I would think Martha is a steadfast friend who is always there for those she cares about. I had to nod along as she spoke of her childhood, largely spent alone as an only child, and therefore was fine being by herself. I had the same experience as a child. This background information, that she freely shared, was a nice addition, because it helped me know the author better.

Moreover, I loved reading about the banter between Carol and Martha. The texts the women shared back and forth, filled with witty remarks, were delightful and showed another side to their friendship. At the same time the book is one filled with wonder and marvelous coincidences, the kind that I think we all experience; we just need to be aware of them.

A good bit of the book is filled with the deepening relationship between the dogs, but I can’t help but wonder how Minnie has been doing since. I would love to read more stories like this; Perhaps Martha could continue the story and give us an update? I was also surprised by the fact that Martha has a dog au pair—I never heard of that position before!!!!! I would love to move to New York and become a dog au pair!!!!!!!

I pass a lot of the books that I get to people I know. This one, on the other hand, is one I’ll keep and probably be buying extra copies of to share with others who love their pets. This book will make you smile and bring you to tears, It’s definitely a five star book.

I really enjoyed this book - first off I wished for it because it had to do with dogs and difficult dogs to boot. This story was more than I thought and that's what I liked most about it. I got to know the author and her relationship with Carol. I can't imagine the position she was in, knowing she was going to die and worrying about her dog. It broke my heart. Sad but a good story.

Im still crying.
This is a beautiful story of love and friendship.
Martha Teichner tells the story of her friendship with her bull terrier. Martha has had many pets but her current best friend is Minnie and they both loved to walk around New York, especially at the farmers market where all the vendors had a treat for Minnie. Minnie's favorite treat was Mangoes! Martha meets an old acquaintance at the farmers market although she doesn't know his name only knows him by his dog. He introduces her to Carol who has a terminal illness and needed someone to take Harry when she passed away. Martha was very reluctant to take Harry but Carol knew she would take great care of Harry. There were tons of cute moments in this book and im so so glad i got the chance to read this.

When Harry Met Minnie is a story of how two bull terriers brought two very good friends together right when they needed each other most. After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, Carol is desperate to find a new home for her beloved dog Harry. When she meets Martha, a fellow bull terrier lover and owner of her own dog Minnie, the two begin a friendship that will long outlast Carol's life. This book was one of my most anticipated reads and while I enjoyed reading about Harry and Minnie and the antics they got up to, it was very slow to start. It took me a while to get into the story as it wasn't quite what I expected but by the end my heart went to Martha and Minnie for the journey they went on with Carol and Harry. When Harry Met Minnie cones out February 2nd.

I truly enjoyed this memoir, in fact I read it in an afternoon.
Don't be fooled into thinking that this a a dog book. Yes, dogs, particularly bull terriers, are front and center, but so too it is a story of friendship and love.
Weekly walks to Union Market lead to great food, familiar faces and friendship.
It is so true that our pets can become the means to greet and meet people. They often make the introductions just because of the fact they draw the attention away from the human and on to themselves. This is indeed how Piggy, then Moose and Minnie helped to introduce Martha Teichner to Stephen and then Carol, Harry's owner.
I enjoyed learning about Martha Teichner's background, her roots to Michigan as well as South Carolina.
This is a wonderful story of friendship between humans and their pets and between human and humans. Wonderful story.

Get ready to fall in love with this true, heartbreaking and heartwarming story of two women and their bull terriers. It won’t be a bad idea to have a box of tissues handy either.

“CBS Sunday Morning” correspondent and multi-Emmy Award winner Martha Teichner tells the story of her enchantment with the bull terrier breed. In the past she has been best friends with Piggy, Goose, and now, Minnie. Martha and Minnie loved to walk around New York City, especially the Chelsea Piers and the Union Square Farmer’s Market. All the vendors at the market knew Minnie and had a treat waiting for her. Her favorite? Mangos!

It was at the market, on July 23, 2016, that Martha and Minnie ran into an old acquaintance, quite by chance. It had been a couple of years since she had seen him and his dog, but there they were. Weirdly, Martha didn’t know much about him, not even his name, but they bonded over their dogs. When Martha’s old friend learned that Goose had died six months earlier, he had an idea.

He had another friend, Carol, who was looking for a new home for her bull terrier, Harry. Carol had developed cancer from the 9/11 toxins as her apartment building was near Ground Zero. After thinking about, Martha agreed to let Harry and Minnie meet. This started a nearly two year adventure of slowly introducing the dogs as bull terriers can be quite territorial and aggressive.

Harry and Minnie immediately hit it off! There were multiple dates, overnights and walks around the city. Readers will get to know their individual idiosyncrasies and their breed’s stubbornness and watch them bond. Harry had several medical issues also; quite a few as Martha soon learned. But that wasn’t an issue---Minnie loved Harry, and Harry loved Minnie.

A deep friendship also formed between Martha, Carol, and Martha’s acquaintance, who was named Stephen. What fun it was to be a voyeuristic part of their group! Martha still had not committed to taking Harry as late as Fall 2017. However, as Carol deteriorated, it became a matter of fact that Martha would take Harry and love him all the rest of his days.

This story reminded me a bit of Elizabeth Berg’s novel, “Talk Before Sleep.” I was attracted to the cover---Harry and Minnie’s adorable faces staring at me. I feel now as if I knew them.

When Harry Met Minnie: A true story of love and friendship receive 6 out of 5 stars in Julie’s world.

Thanks Celadon Books and NetGalley for the digital ARC! I might not have discovered this sweet girl=meets-dog story on my own.

Journalist Martha Teichner is the girl in this story, though from the title you might think it's Minnie, who, like Harry, is a Manhattan-dwelling bull terrier. Martha and Minnie go to the Union Square Market on Saturday mornings. They used to be accompanied by Goose, another BT, until he crossed the rainbow bridge. Martha and Minnie still miss Goose, but life goes on. One day they run into Teddy, and his human, Stephen, who it turns out are tasked with finding a home for 11-year-old bull terrier named Harry, whose human, Carol, has terminal cancer.

Harry has issues--lots of them. He takes a pawful of meds, has a special diet, and like other BTs is full of quirks and stubbornness. That Harry will end up with the ladies Teichner is a foregone conclusion from the title, but the core of the story is one of human friendship, for Carol Fertig has as big a personality as a bull terrier. She is an artist and designer and has a following of devoted friends, I loved all the dog love, the detailing of all the canines' likes, dislikes, traits, and deviant behaviors. I was disappointed that there weren't any photos, at least in the digital galley, an inexcusable lapse, dog privacy be damned.

The other content warning I'll give is for rich people. It's freaking amazing that Teichner has live-in help for her dog(s), but people who don't own an apartment in Chelsea and a beach house in South Carolina will definitely need a moment.

Martha Teichner is a correspondent for CBS Sunday Morning, but her story here is about her love of bull terriers, and how she agreed to care for a dying woman’s elderly dog, Harry. She already had a bull terrier named Minnie, and an acquaintance approached her when she and Minnie were walking one weekend and asked her to consider taking Harry when his friend Carol could no longer care for the dog. Martha was skeptical—would Minnie accept Harry? Harry was 11 years old and taking several medications—could she deal with his challenges? She and Minnie met Harry and Carol, and agreed. When Carol became too ill to care for Harry, his occasional visits became permanent, and Martha sent her many amusing pictures and videos of the two dogs. A friendship developed between not only the two dogs, but also the two women. Teichner has written a wonderful story about friendship, both canine and human. Thanks to the publisher, Celadon Books, for this ARC.

Martha Teichner, correspondent for CBS Sunday Morning, has written a heartfelt tribute to her friend, Carol Fertig and the two lovable dogs who brought them together.

Over the years, Martha has adopted several bull terriers. Her current bull terrier is a lovable diva named Minnie. Martha genuinely likes this particular breed of dog and when she was given a chance to care for Harry, a bull terrier whose owner was dying of cancer, she agreed to give him a chance.

When Harry met Minnie, Martha knew she could bring Harry into her home. The two dogs became fast friends and together they stole her heart. Thus began an unexpected friendship with Carol Fertig and her dog, Harry, that would enrich Martha’s life.

This memoir is an account of enduring friendship, love, and loyalty as well as a story of life's ordinary days to be treasured and remembered with their good times as well as bad times.

Thank you to NetGalley, author Martha Teichner, and Celadon Books for giving me the opportunity to read the ARC of this poignant, heartfelt memoir.

This memoir is about Martha Teichner taking the dog of a woman dying of cancer. The two women form an odd friendship as they introduce their dogs to make sure it's a good fit. There were several tangents throughout the book that I found distracting. The book seemed to meander from moment to moment, and I wasn't sure where it was going.

A wonderful, loving story of love, loss and being in the right place at the right time. The special camaraderie between dog walkers not just with the walkers, but with the dogs themselves is like a fairy tale that only those who have experienced it, can understand. A memoir by Martha Teichner, it's almost like a fairy tale that can surround New York City, the backdrop for this tale. I was not expecting such a love story.
