There are a lot of different authors who all have very different takes on vampire lore, which is great! Some of those stories were more effective than others, and some needed more than just a short story to really be appreciated.
Interesting premise. Likable/hated characters. Cool plot. I would recommend this story to others. Some spots I found that didn't hold my attention, but overall, I still liked it. THANKS NETGALLEY!
You had me at vampires. This collection was so much fun. I love all things vampy and boy did this quench my thirst. The lineup of authors was beyond amazing and each story could have seriously been their own stand alone that I would have devoured. I need more collections like this in my life.
Anthologies are hard to review, as some stories are always inevitably better than others. This one, on the whole, was pretty interesting. I’m not a huge vampire fan but this was entertaining. It was nice to see different tales on one concept and was a fun read.
Short story collections are always a bit difficult to review because there are so many works by various authors that each stand on their own while sharing a common theme. As to be expected, there were some that were much more enjoyable that others.
What I really liked about this collection was each author’s spin on traditional vampire lore. There were so many interesting takes on the standard stories and each on was completely unique with its own voice. Short stories can be tricky because it’s so difficult to find the balance in telling enough of the story to engage the reader without going too in depth and becoming a full-blown novel. Though there were a couple that I had to push myself to get through, the majority of them were a joy to read.
Loved the diversity of vampire stories in this book, from old more classical vampire to completely modern depictions, it was so interesting to see such a wide range of them! Plus, we have a lot of diversity in this book, and I am all for it!
I really enjoyed these fresh and modern takes on vampires. I thought the authors and stories were diverse and entertaining, and some gave me quite the thrill!
Most the stories were about a 4 star for me, with only one or two falling under that simply due to not being my taste in story. I've recommended this for people to have a "fresh bite" of vampire stories.
I really LOVED the commentary in-between stories about why the story was picked, what myth it played in to, and how it worked with vampire lore. Wish all collections did that.
The word vampires hooked me, but this was just not the anthology for me. There were a few gems throughout, but for the most part this was a very forgettable anthology for me despite the stellar list of authors. One of the best things about this anthology is the diversity and representation of so many different voices.
My favorites were In Kind by Kayla Whaley, A Guidebook for the Newly Sired Desi Vampire by Samira Ahmed, and First Kill by Victoria “V. E.” Schwab.
I truly loved this one. Some stories I gave 4 stars and others 3, but they are all good. I recommend this anthology..
Anthologies are always a hit or a miss, but I really enjoyed this one! Some of the stories were a little better than others but I wouldn't have rated a single one below 3 stars. Perfect for any fan of vampires!
A great collection of authors writing about one of the best supernatural creatures. There's a story for everyone (who likes vampires, that is) in this book!
I don't usually read anthologies and just started reading vampire books this year, so I was excited to try something new. I also had only read Julie Murphy's books, so I was looking forward to reading from authors I've heard a lot about but haven't had a chance to read their work. Overall, there were hits and misses, but I generally enjoyed this anthology and found a lot of the stories to be fun or thought provoking. I wasn't the biggest fan of how many cliffhangers there were, and I think I would have been more satisfied with clear endings, but I can appreciate the openness it leaves the reader with. I really liked the editor's notes at the end of every story that helped explain the story and how it fit into the greater work.
Seven Nights for Dying: Tessa Gratton - 2 stars
Mirrors, Windows, & Selfies: Mark Oshiro - 4 stars
-I really liked the format of this story and how Cisco had to reconcile what he thought was the truth with the actual truth.
The House of Black Sapphires: Dhonielle Clayton - 4 stars
- The ending to this one left me wanting a whole book about this story. The idea of Black vampires is just altogether a cool idea.
The Boys from Blood River: Rebecca Roanhorse - 5 stars
Senior Year Sucks: Julie Murphy - 5 stars
-I liked how this one made you think more about vampires turned against their will, and I liked the dynamic between the main characters.
The Boy and The Bell: Heidi Heilig - 3 stars
In Kind: Kayla Whaley - 3 stars
A Guidebook for The Newly Sired Desi Vampire: Samira Ahmed - 2 stars
-I loved how this one tied colonialism and vampirism, but I think the format just felt like it was trying too hard to be funny.
Bestiary: Laura Ruby - 2 stars
-This one was just lackluster to me.
Vampires Never Say Die - 3 stars
First Kill: Victoria Schwab - 5 stars
-I need more now!! I cannot wait to see the adaptation of this.
I don't usually gravitate towards short story anthologies, but when you combine vampires with some of my favorite authors I simply can't resist! I absolutely loved the variety of stories we got here. None of these stories was repetitive, they were all so unique and magical. I only wish I had more.
Firstly, thanks do much to Fierce Reads and Netgalley for the free e-arc in exchange for review. This is no way affects my opinions.
This was a collection of short stories, all of which reimagined by different authors and on different parts of the Vampire myth. I have only read one other book regarding vampires so one thing I particularly loved about this book is that I got to learn new things about vampires as well as add to what I already knew. As the book is comprised of short stories, I feel it easier to review some of the stories individually.
"Mirrors, Windows and Selfies" I loved the blog format of this one and who doesn't enjoy some MxM romance...sort of
"The House of Black Sapphires" I enjoyed this one but it ended WAY to abruptly.
"Boys from Blood River" I don't know why but I got a bit of a "Where Are You Going, Where Have You Been" vibe and...I like it
"Senior Year Sucks" I don't have much to say about this one honestly. It was a nice little story with a plus sized slayer and some slayer/vampire kissing and a nice change up from some of the other stories.
"The Boy and the Bell" I LOVED this one!! I think because I had literally just finished watching a video over the Vampire Panic. But, I don't know, I can't put my "fang" on it
"A Guidebook for the Newly Sired" I also LOVED this one!! The concept that there's this whole guidebook for baby vampires was really interesting to read. And of course, I loved the little bit of humor
"First Kill" This was written by V.E. Schwab. What more do you need to know? Had the traditional twist that I've come to know Schwab for and I vaguely remember gasping

Okay, this book has so much to love in it!!! First of all, I love a good anthology and this is a truly great one. Second of all, VAMPIRES! Honestly, it's a creature I'm so beyond down to bring back into the book world. Maybe the market got over saturated, but I will always love a vampire story - so how about more than one?!
With some of my favorite, knockout voices, plus some new ones to love, I think this collection is well-rounded and put together. I know that teenage me would have loved it, and I'm glad adult me gets to experience it!
A wonderful anthology that has the power to revive an age-old love for the undead! Filled to the brim with unique stories and wonderfully written characters, Vampires Never Get Old is a tour de force that is perfect for readers of all ages.
A great collection of vampire stories for teens and adults that should be added to the canon of modern vampire literature. Inclusive, multicultural and covering all of the vampire tropes, good and bad, that lovers of vampire lit will appreciate. Each story is followed by a discussion prompt to lead readers into thinking more about what the legends and myths meant through history and to contemporary life in terms of symbolism, identity, and moral choices.
This book is a fresh bite, but unfortunately not of something I would want on my plate again. I love a good vampire story and there were a lot of great authors in this anthology, so it's a shame that this wasn't more enjoyable... Almost all the stories end on a cliffhanger and function more as a first chapter vs. a standalone short story, which is strange. It seems the authors tried to find unusual takes on the vampire story - what it is like to live as one to be made to make your first kill to meet your first one, etc. Sadly these takes just felt undeveloped or poorly thought out or just not enjoyable. I will say the one stand out was VE Schwab's "First Kill." The characters were fun and three dimensional and they immediately jumped off the page. This is the one that made me want to run out and buy the book. Too bad it was one success out of many failures.
Honestly I was underwhelmed by this book. There were a few stories I really loved and alot of them...meh. I also wanted them to be about 10 pages longer but maybe that's just me. Didn't fill my vampire love sadly.

Thank you to Netgalley and Macmillan for this free ARC.
A new and refreshing take on the classic Vampire. I love the stories and the quick snippets of history after each one.
