A fun read for those kids who love unicorn stories. This is a great option to build up those unicorn collections.
Mira goes to Unicorn school through a portal with her friends Darcy and Raheem where she was paired with her Unicorn best friend forever Dave. While he isn’t the best unicorn at anything really since he really just likes to sleep and eat sugary snacks and fart but Mira loves him anyway. Unicorn school just started back up and Class Red which Mira is in has a quest to find some warming crystals before winter comes to the land and also get ready for an awesome glitter filled school dance.
Ahh this was so cute and the illustrations were so cute as well. I loved the story and who doesn’t love unicorns that fart rainbows. Just really fun read and would be really great for 2nd to 3rd grade readers. Just so fun.

Mira goes to Unicorn School with her Unicorn Best Friend, Dave. At school, a dance is coming up and the whole school is helping plan it. Darcy self-appoint herself as committee leader and things don’t go as well as planned or how Mira hoped. Darcy keeps trying to control everything, won’t listen to other people’s ideas for the dance, and Dave keeps disrupting the dance planning. Before the dance, however, Mira and the rest of their class have been assigned a quest. Their quest: to retrieve warming crystals from the Crystal Maze Mine to warm the school. Dave, however, is not your typical unicorn. He sleeps in class, has a farting problem, and tends to chew on stuff he shouldn’t. While on the quest, Darcy disappears! It’s up to Mira to save her. Can Mira and Dave succeed in the class quest? Will they be able to find Darcy? Will Dave and Mira find a way to be themselves? The illustrations are engaging and complement the text well. The plot is simple, but entertaining. Mira and Dave’s unique personalities add a lot of humor and believability to the novel. The other characters, however, are not really developed. Fans of unicorns, school stories, fantasy, and adventure will enjoy reading this book.

I received an electronic ARC from Macmillan Children's Publishing Group through NetGalley.
Mira and Dave and their friends are back in this third book. This time they're preparing for the school dance. Their friend, Darcy, is in charge and goes a bit overboard with the power.
Plenty of humor along with the fantasy as the new unicorn school year kicks off.
Simple to follow story line for mid-elementary readers. Bird continues to pull readers in to this world and share more about the characters.
This can be read as part of the series or as a stand alone book.
This is the third in a series but can be read as a standalone. Kids will think this book is hilarious. Not much is funnier than a unicorn farting rainbows!
Dave the Unicorn is a delightful series where children get to become best friends with unicorns and be at school! Dave is not your typical unicorn: he farts a lot, is lazy unless motivated by food, and generally causes a ruckus. Mira, his BFF, loves him the way he is though. The cast of characters is diverse. I also thought the way the friendships worked were really realistic for the age group they are in. The only downside to the series is that I started in book three, so I missed the set-up of finding out how the school works.
This is the third book in the Dave the Unicorn series of illustrated chapter books. I have not read the two previous books but there is enough back story to get the gist of what's going on. This is definitely for he kid who is reading independently pretty well, still enjoys a few pictures, and likes potty humor. Dave farts, a lot. I found it funny because it wasn't overdone. The characters aren't perfect, they make mistakes, but they work out their problems. There is a diverse cast of characters with differing personalities, I really enjoyed this book and would recommend for 3rd-4th graders.
