Completely loved the characters and word building in this novel. It fully emerged you in the world the author created.
I really enjoyed the first book in this duology, but I didn’t enjoy this one as much. Romance readers will probably fare better than I did, because this book felt like it was 80% romance. So maybe it’s not a surprise that it just wasn’t my thing, since I’m not a fan of romance. The romance felt true and accurate, but it was a lot of introspection and just romance drama and angst, and that’s not my thing. I was really wanting more on the fantasy! The world was still fun, though, and I enjoyed some of the mystery and the action. Really, it was just the romance that dragged this book down for me, because it’s not my thing.
I enjoyed this book so much. I liked the character growth from the first book. Reading the different perspectives of each sister was great. I loved this duology so much.
Thank you Macmillan and NetGalley for providing me an opportunity to review this title.
Warriors of Wing and Flame was a satisfying and sweet conclusion in the Sisters of Shadow and Light duology.
This installment picks up from where the first book left off. Barloc has escaped and now its up to our favorite sisters Zuhra and Inara with the help of their family and friends to stop him before he brings death and destruction to their home Vamala and Visimperum.
Like the first book, this is told in 2 POV's, Zuhra's and Inara's. From the start to the very end, the journey was an adventurous one with twists, romance, gryphons and a sister duo you'll root for. At times it did drag but overall this was a good conclusion. I don't think the world building or magic is complex, which makes it a perfect choice if you are looking for a light fantasy read where at the heart of the story is the love of two sisters, and nothing can separate them.
Such a wonderful follow-up to Sisters of Shadow & Light. I truly enjoyed myself while reading this. It picks up right where the first book ends with the sisters and Barloc. I was blown away by how satisfied I was at the conclusion of this duology. I felt complete in reading this. The writing was so immersive that I felt like I was with the sisters as they embarked on their journey. I felt like a third sister as I watched both Zuhra and Inara mature and grow. Where the first book felt more action-focused, this book is more emotion-focused and will make you cry your eyes out. You get equal parts of each sister which helps with their character growth.
I truly enjoyed reading this and definitely plan to check out more from Sara B. Larson. Let's not forget to mention how beautiful this cover is as well. This is definitely a book I'd recommend.
I love these books! I'll be honest, this series is one of those that I almost passed up on completely. I am not a fan of the covers, but the story inside is magnificent. They give me those TOG vibes with hidden fae-like beings with lots of power, gates to different lands, and romance, and I am here for it!
This second book takes place right where the first left off, which was nice. I hate having some big event happen at the end of one book and then having a time jump. Thankfully this book did not suffer from that. I hope the next book pulls through in the same way (I hope there is a next book, I need one, like now).
I loved the world, the battles and the characters almost as much a I did the first time. I would have liked a little more about the mother and father and I really want to know a bit more about the world through the portal. But, I'm assuming we will be getting more about that in the next one. The relationships between the sisters was still wonderful and I loved seeing them open up more to the people around them and their surroudings. The friendships and romantic relationships are a big part of the story and I didn't hate it, I think this particular series is done perfectly in that manner. I look forward to seeing how things turn out.
The villain is just as interesting and I love how Lasron weaves the past to the present with the why and how it's all connected. Backstory is another key point in all of this. Again, I think we will get even more about this part of the story in the next installment (can I please have that now).
Just in case you haven't guessed already, the next chapter will definitely be on my most anticipated list (whenever it's announced for). They are everything my Fantasy loving hearts yearns for.
4.5 ⭐ Thank you to Netgalley and Macmillan-Tor/Forge for a copy of this title in exchange for an honest review
Thank you to netgalley for this copy in exchange for my review! I thought this was an excellent sequel! The story moved well and the continuation of characters was great.
I really love Sara writing and this book just bought such a completeness in my opinion to the series. I am the oldest of three sisters and I love the sister relationship in this book. The journey of family meaning seem to be present really well and I love how the characters also grow up in many ways. I enjoy reading both of these book back to back too. Yes I would recommend
I am so happy I had to the opportunity to read & review Warriors of Wing & Flame by one of my favorite locals Sara B. Larson. I loved sisters of Shadow & Light so much!
These two sisters are so badass! Both of them have unique abilities and we get to see so much more of them in Warriors. I really like that even in moments where they're separated they can still feel each other to some extent. Their bond is so strong and no matter what they will fight to get back to one another.
This book is fast-paced adventure from beginning to end. It picks up right where we left off with Zhura and Inara working to bring down Barloc. They'll face many challenges along the way but with the help of their family and the other Palladin's they just might succeed.
I can't forget to mention there is romance and my goodness the kissing scenes!! The love interests were so swoony!
I'm going to miss this world and hope that maybe one day we'll get to see more of Visempirum. I definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys a good YA Fantasy!
Warriors of Wing and Flame is the gripping conclusion to the Sisters of Shadow and Light duology, starting shortly after Sisters ended. Inara and Zuhra are back trying to save Vamala and Visimperum, while trying to figure out life, romance, and the boys they have given their hearts to. In Warriors, we get redemption, excitement, and new adventures for our two favorite sisters.
I rated this book using my heart, not so much a rating scale. I adore Zuhra and Inara and love how their characters are developing and growing throughout this book. The supporting characters; i.e. their love interests, their parents, grandparents, and team are all amazing characters that add something special to the story. This book is action packed and will keep you on your toes with twists and turns.
I also really enjoyed the writing style. For a YA fantasy, it read more like an adult fantasy book in terms of language and plot - which I enjoyed. It reminded me strongly of the Strange the Dreamer duo by Laini Taylor. The writing style is smooth and I believe this book was even better paced than the first. I had one tiny issue with Inara's age, she seemed too young for a lot of her plot line to be realistic. I also didn't particularly enjoy the redemption arc for an abusive parent, though it wasn't as large of a redemption as I was expecting.
Overall, I very much enjoyed reading this duo and gave both book 5 stars. I love when books just rip emotions and feelings out of you and leave you wanting more. I was swept up in this book and wouldn't have it any other way.

Warriors of Wing and Flame was a super enjoyable conclusion to the story that began in Sisters of Shadow and Light. Zuhra and Inara both grapple with the aftermath of Barloc's betrayal and the gateway between Vamala and Vispempirum being reopened. Everything has changed--Paladin now stroll the halls of the citadel, Inara has been saved from the roar (but at a steep cost), and Zuhra must come to terms with not just concern for her sister and family, but this newfound power she now possesses. The threat from Barloc, now a jakla who can consume the power of the Paladin, is greater than ever as he continues to gain power and wreak havoc on the populace of the human world. Now Zuhra and Inara, along with their family and friends, go on a quest to put a stop to his plot once and for all.
Warriors of Wing and Flame starts off with a bang and just keeps on rolling. It took me a second to get back into this world since I haven't reread SOSAS lately, but it didn't take long for me to get into it. I really enjoyed the plotting and pacing in this book, which is a step up from SOSAS. I didn't really feel like the story dragged at all. I really enjoyed all the romantic twists and turns that Zuhra and Inara have to face, and the development of these relationships ended up being really satisfying, if not a little devastating. I felt that both sisters got to shine in this book, and I especially loved seeing more of Inara and her personality. Warriors of Wing and Flame is a story about loss, first love, and self-discovery, but more than that it is yet another tribute to the bond of sisterhood, which is at its heart. That bond between Zuhra and Inara makes the book as fabulous as it is. This duology is fantasy writing at its best, a story of heroes and villains and magic, and the love we're able to cling to in between.
Warriors of Wing and Flame is the second part of author Sara B. Larson's Sisters of Shadow and Light duology. The story alternates between 18-year old Zuhra, and her 16-year old sister Inara. Picking up immediately following the events of Sisters of Shadow and Light, things are at a tipping point. Zuhra has returned home from Visimperum, home of the Paladin’s, bringing with her long-lost father Adelric, and a team of Gryphon Riders to the Citadel for the first time in 16 years. Paladin, who once fought a war against humans, were sent away after Inara was born which closed the gates between worlds while also separating Adelric from his human wife.
Paladins are magical beings who are capable of everything from controlling minds, to healing, to enhancing someone's powers, to creating nearly unbreakable shields. Zuhra's younger sister Inara was drained by the villain Barloc and left for dead in the first book. Thanks to both Raidyn (Healer) and Zuhra (Enhancer) Inara is still alive. But, with her sister struggling to deal with the loss of her healing abilities after being stuck in what the author calls the roar for 15 years, the threat of Barloc must be addressed soon. Barloc has left a trail of bodies in his wake, including Zuhra’s grandfather who she just met after 16 years of separation.
Barloc plans to find Paladin’s called Infinitium Sect who feel like he does. They believe Paladin deserve to rule over humans since they are much stronger. If he can find the others, he could be a danger to both Visimperum and Vamala. While Inara is reeling from the loss of her powers, she’s no longer under a cloud of uncertainty. She can make up her own mind and choices including who she loses her heart to. Inara is shockingly attuned to Barloc and that provides both an opportunity and a likely trap for Zuhra who Barloc would love to have her powers.
While the Paladin are desperately trying to track down Barloc who poses a risk to both worlds and both Paladin and humans, Zuhra has fallen in love with Raidyn. Their connection has some minor issues, but there’s no doubt they are mutually in love with the other. Happily, Inara gets her own chance at discovering who she is when she travels to Visimperum after following Barloc and trying to get her powers back. Inara’s growth and the fact that she gets this amazing new ability while also falling hard for Loukas, a boy who is perhaps the most dangerous Paladin in existence, was nice to read about. Inara, like her sister, grew up within the walls of their citadel sheltered from the outside world and experiences. It’s nice to see both girls get a happy ending, even with all the losses and devastation, as well as a reunited family unit that was shattered for 16 years.

Book 1, Sisters of Shadow and Light, grabbed me and wouldn't let me go. Warriors of Wing and Flame...held me? Don't get me wrong, it is still a nice romp around several universes while chasing a bad guy and filled with magical kisses, insta-love, and strong family bonds.
Also, Loukas, I am looking directly at you when I say the author inserted Loki into her story. Green eyes and black, mind control, nobody trusts him? Can't fool me, I loved him first. (And the author has a dog named Loki, so I KNOW she did it on purpose.)
The book picks up right where the first novel, Sisters of Shadow and Light ended. This time the story is told from the point of view of both sisters, Zuhra and Inara. It is confusing at times since both POV's seem very similar and I had to check back which POV I was reading.
I was annoyed by the love-triangle/quadrangle - so much angst, so much uncertainty, so much ... MEH!
I skimmed most part of the book. This wasn't for me.

Sisters of Shadow and Light surprised me last year and ended up being a favorite read. This book was no exception. And holy crap, Sara put these characters through the emotional wringer! They never catch a break. I felt so bad for them, but omfg because of everything they deal with/have to go through is what makes this book so damn good.
Highly recommend!

I’ve been sitting here struggling to write this review because I feel like I have nothing to say. This book just blew me away. Everything I said in my review for Sisters of Shadow and Light still holds true.
Though, I guess I will say that the plot was a little lacking, but this is so very much a character driven story, so I didn’t mind. I mean, you feel everything Zuhra and Inara go through. Everything.
And it never stops. Their bond is tested time and time again. Seeing each of them come into their own in this book is So Good and Satisfying.
I went through a gauntlet of emotions and more than once thought I was going to start crying at work. I really need to stop listening to such emotional reads when I’m working. I get weird stares from my coworkers 😂
And Raidyn is still my new book boyfriend omfg. But Loukas. I *swoon* - it’s hard not to love them both. Though Loukas is just a little more in need of a long hug and I love characters who might just be a little bit broken, a little bit guarded until they find their people they can trust wholly. But these two…phew. Double Trouble, loyal to a fault and badass. I’m here for it.
The ending was sad and satisfying and I’m a little sad that this duology has come to an end. I loved this world and the characters and once again Sara B. Larson proves why she’s one of my favorite authors.
I highly recommend you check out Sisters of Shadow and Light if you haven’t already and then dive into Warriors of Wing and Flame. Also make sure you check out her other books - you really won’t be disappointed.
I honeslty don’t know what else to say! I just want to shove the duology set into your hands and make you read them. This book while being emotionally character driven is still so enjoyable and it’s not lacking in action scenes. Hell, the final confrontation scene was * on point * and that scene with Inara flying…phew. I really do mean it, you can’t go wrong with this book, this series. So do yourself the favor and pick it up.
This was such a good conclusion to this duology and offered a clean and satisfying end to the journey that we followed Zuhra and Inara on.
This book starts off straight after the events of the first book and I was happy to be back in this world with these characters. I liked how this book brought minor characters to the forefront, allowing us to learn more about them. I was also happy that Inara really grew as a character, which was one of my issues with Sisters of Shadow and Light. I really like the connection that the two sisters have in this story and what extremes they would go to for each other.
I found myself captivated by the plot of this book and found that it had great pacing and world building. The writing was beautiful and again, I loved the use of dual POV's as it really does help progress the story. However at times the line between Zuhra and Inara seemed to blur together and at times I found myself forgetting whose perspective I was reading from. I would have liked the two to have more clearer uniqueness other then their abilities (or lack of abilities).
Overall, this was a great conclusion to the Sister of Shadow and Light Duology which ticks a lot of the boxes I look for when reading YA Fantasy! I recommend giving these books a read!
Thank you to NetGalley and Tor-Teen for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
This sequel picked up right where the first one left off and I was happy to see it was told in both perspectives. In this book we get a lot more of Inara's point of view and it was nice to see more of that. This book is a pretty somber book and that took a little bit of a push to get through. The story starts off with a ton of grief and nearly each character is suffering from some loss. Although the author did a great job of accurately portraying grief and not just brushing it off, it also made for a not that fun of a read. That being said there were some really great things about the book. I adore the bond between Inara and Zuhra. You can't help but cheer them on. I also adore the Gryphons and all that goes along with them. Overall I did really enjoy the book.
I was so excited for this sequel. Getting to see more of Vamala than just the Citadel, seeing the changing character dynamics, and answering lingering questions - this book delivered on all of it. I really enjoyed my time reading.
I do wish that more time was spent developing the villain, and there were a few plot threads that didn’t wrap up in a satisfying way. If the book could have been twice as long to accommodate this, I think it would have been twice as good. Other than that, I would definitely recommend this book and it’s predecessor.
Thank you to NetGalley and Macmillan-Tor/Forge for providing me an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I requested this ARC not realizing that it was book 2 of a series, so I had to pick up book 1 to give it a full review. The first book was disappointing - there were some problematic things I saw with parental relationships and romances but Warriors of Wing and Flame did improve in generally doing away with some of the problematic relationships there were.
Unfortunately, I found the book generally difficult to get through. I wasn't really invested in the characters or their relationships. In fact, whenever anything vaguely romantic came up and either sister got distracted from the plot I just felt myself getting frustrated and wanting the plot to move on. Furthermore, the issue I had with Zuhra in book 1 and her inability to focus whenever she met a boy got transferred to Inara. While I finished the book, it was just an overwhelmingly average experience.
