What a freaking page turner. Book had me guessing from page to page and I never wanted to put it down. Literally did not see the end coming. At all. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I really enjoyed this thriller. The first half of the book was much more fast paced than the last half of the book. I liked the author's writing style and will look forward to reading her next book.
Thanks to NetGalley for a copy of this book for review.

Okay, so Too Good To Be True. This book follows three narratives of a husband, his wife and …. his new wife????? Ahhhhhh, nothing like a little bigamy in the morning to get your blood pumping, right?
Domestic thrillers are already a mixed bag for me. The one thing that makes me enjoy them? When I don’t see what’s coming. And really I don’t even care half the time if the goings on are completely over the top. I will happily suspend my disbelief for the duration if I’m being entertained. Unfortunately I saw everything miles before it happened in this novel and I have the receipts to prove it. Not even kidding either. My Kindle is full of my notes simply begging to be incorrect regarding my predictions. Sadly they were all spot on : (
ARC provided by NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you, NetGalley!
I think it’s best to go into this one blind. The first half totally hooked me, the second half dragged a little. It was told from three different perspectives which I really liked. Thanks so much to NetGalley and St. Martin’s Press for the advanced copy!
Skye Starling meets the love of her life: Burke. After a swift courtship, she and Burke marry. But, Skye soon discovers that she is not the only woman married to Burke. After reading an email, Skye finds out the truth about Burke and his wife; Heather. Each chapter of this book is told from each character's point of view. But, who is telling the truth? Will Burke stay married? If so, to who? And, why did Burke marry two women? If you read, Too Good to Be True by Carola Lovering, you will find out!!!!
Overall, I enjoyed this book. I did feel like it dragged somewhat at times There is a twist, but once it was revealed, I was ready for the book to end.
Too Good To Be True by Carola Lovering is a psychological suspense, thriller novel which focuses on an obsessive and addictive relationship between the two characters - Skye Starling & Burke Michaels. The book is written with three POVs - Skye, Burke and Heather. Heather is Burke's wife.
Skye Starling is rich, beautiful and smart, but she has been struggling with OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) after her mother's death. Her struggle has always come in between her past relationships. Burke Michaels is handsome, older, and more emotionally mature than any man she's met before. But is he really who he portrays to be in front of Skye?
I really liked how the book is written and how we get to read three different stories and POVs in one. The revealing of Burke's wife through his emails and letters to his therapist is another beautifully done layer to the story. We also see different time frames and a gap of thirty years between them.
On a collision course she doesn't see coming, Skye throws herself into wedding planning, as Burke's scheme grows ever more twisted. At times while reading, you would want to clap with the flawless twists and turns written by the author, whereas at times you would want to cringe with Skye and Burke's behavior.
The book is just a perfect thriller when it comes to the plot and narrative. The way we see character development is also done pretty well, and I don't see any complains from this book. The book is going to keep you hooked from the very first page till the end.

Thank You to NetGalley and Publisher - St. Martin's Press for the eARC in exchange for a honest opinion.
Release Date: March 2nd 2021
I whipped right through this! It's a total page turner, addicting, and easy to read. There have been a lot of psychological thrillers published in the last five years, and for good reason. They're like a Law and Order SVU episode, totally binge-able.
Skye is over the moon in love with Burke. She has found her soulmate. After a whirlwind romance, they are planning their approaching wedding.
The problem is.... Burke is already married to his long-time wife, Heather- a fact that Skye is unaware of.
Burke and Heather come from a small town rife with drugs and poverty. That storyline from the past is interwoven into the present story
The past has everything to do with the duplicitous plot that is now targeting Skye.
Past and present collide..... 👀

This is one tangled up, twisted story. You don’t really know who you are pulling for or who’s telling the truth. There are a lot of complicated emotions at play, looking at how our childhood shapes us.

I definitely recommend this one.
Too Good to be True was an entertaining read. Full of twists and turns -- especially around the halfway mark -- made for a fun mystery novel. I also appreciated the author's attention and treatment of a character that suffers from OCD. However, I wish that same degree of empathy and attention was given to the same character that suffered from sexual assault. Such a traumatic experience was left under-developed and used as a device to paint unfavorable option about another character. Although the novel was a little sappy in some parts, I appreciate how the author tied everything together at the end.
Meet Skye Starling whose an editor, she dreams of finding love but has given up after many failed relationships. She’s insecure because she has OCD, shh has to knock on doors before leaving and when she gets nervous it gets worse. Skye comes from family money she’s extremely wealthy able to live comfortably and buy anything she wants she can’t seem to find love.
Burke a man in his forties from the outside he appears to be a businessman, handsome he’s a recovering addict. When a chance meeting in a hotel, Burke and Skye fall in love. Burke doesn’t care about Skyes OCD, or that she comes from money he sees her for her, or so it seems. As the story moves along we see through letters to his therapists that Burke has ulterior motives and he’s already married!
The story begins to unfold with three perspectives, Burke, his wife Heather and Skye and we soon realize that all three lives intertwine in such a twisted way! This book had me hooked! The story just takes off and I was lost in each of their lives and when the final twist is revealed I was hooked! Four stars! I don’t want to give to much away so go in blind and thank me later!
It was an interesting story. Had some intriguing aspects to it; mystery, betrayal, love, family drama, so much in one book.
Hold onto your hat because what a ride this book is! I was hooked from the very first page and could not put the book down until I finished it. I was a little concerned with the multiple narrators in a nonlinear timeline but everything seemed to flow flawlessly and all the ends were tied up in the end.
I am not going to comment on the characters and/or the plot because this is a book you just have to read and I do not want to give anything away or spoil anything for anyone.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin's Press for the ARC of this fantastic read that I still keep thinking about in exchange for an honest review. This is one of my favorite reads for this year and is deserving of more than 5 stars.
I LOVED her first book and this one does not disappoint. I loved the journal entries, the multiple perspectives and the twists and turns. This book kept me guess and turning the pages till the very end. If you liked her first book this is a good follow up!
The title Too Good to Be True definitely fits this suspenseful, yet mysterious romance about Skye Starling and her boyfriend, Burke Michaels. Their kinship is too perfect to feel real, but you get sucked into the special connection they have and start wishing it all works out. Their past and present relationships seem to constantly disrupt their fast-paced courtship.
There are three character's narrating their story which created a complex, crazy path to the end. I didn't see several things coming as the story unraveled. This page turner grabbed me at the beginning, and I didn't put it down until I was finished. The ending became more like a happily ever after rather than a continuously twisted plot, but again, I didn't imagine this twist either. I felt like it took away from the first half since it is a psychological thriller. I guess the title is truly perfect.
Thank you NetGalley and St. Martin Press for this book for an honest review.
What a book. Hooked from the first page. Sub plots to die for and the love story for both women was interwoven and historically interlinked brilliantly. This is a must read
Too Good To Be True is about Burke Michaels, a former felon from the wrong side of the tracks who’s struggling to support his family. Burke’s inability to provide puts a strain on his marriage, and on a solo getaway in Montauk he finds himself falling for another woman. When Burke discovers that his side piece, Skye, stands to inherit a mountain of money from her wealthy family he can’t believe his luck. Maybe she’ll be his one-way ticket out of debt, a way to give his wife and kids the life they always wanted...
Carola Lovering’s penchant for deftly defined characterization first struck me in her angst-ridden debut novel, Tell Me Lies, which I couldn’t stop thinking about months after reading. She reinforces this gift in Too Good To Be True, in which the characters feel eerily real, like acquaintances I haven’t seen in awhile. The alternating POV isn’t always my cup of tea, but it works here and imbues the novel with an element of suspense and surprise. Too Good To Be True kept me guessing the entire time and I enjoyed bearing witness to Burke and Heather’s game of cat and mouse.
My one minor criticism is that the book seemed perhaps 20% longer than it needed to be. I see that other readers complained about the overly loquacious purple prose, but that’s actually a quality that I prefer in a novel so it didn’t deter me.
I would recommend Too Good To Be True to readers who are looking for an engaging and character-driven domestic suspense novel chock full of lies. The plot was fantastic and the sheer amount of twists and reveals were genius. I promise you’ll polish it off in just a few sittings!
Thank you to Netgalley and St. Martin’s Press for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
Okay all, if you read the description of this book you know why it sucked me in - multiple points of view AND multiple timelines? Sign me up!
This book knocked it out of the part for me, but it did so because I didn't know anything about it going in. If you're going to pick up this book (and I highly recommend you do!) then don't read a whole lot about it before you dive in. Because you do NOT want the twist ruined.
This is one of those books that I went into kind of assuming what I thought would happen, and then the twist partway through totally threw the train right off the tracks (and into the next county).
This is the type of book in which you're going to think you like certain people and dislike others. You'll think you know who you're rooting for, but honestly, you have no idea. You'll get sucked into the worlds of Skye, Burke, and Heather and you'll believe you have the whole thing figured out.
But you don't.
Give yourself the whole day to devour this book, because you will not be able to put it down.
An interesting read about revenge, deceit, compulsive behavior, deception, and ultimately letting go, and moving on. It’s a nice read written from three different point of views. There is the rich, younger woman, ready to be swept off her feet, but she has OCD, and it has caused her problems in life. There is the older woman who is fueled by revenge, and all she wants is to be rich and for others to realize she’s rich and she belongs. Then there’s their husband.
The book is about two beautiful love stories, sort of, but not quite. I like Skye, the rich woman, because even though she has gotten everything she’s ever wanted, she has a lot of common sense, and she’s capable of forgiving, and understanding people. I do not agree with everything she did, but I respect her choices.
I do not really care for the other two characters as far as their personalities go. A woman so filled with revenge, and her goal is for her husband to make her rich. Well, get your own money, if that’s what matters to you. A poor and pretty much parent less childhood really can screw up a person, I get that.
My main problem with the book is that it is simply too long. Should most definitely be a lot shorter. Otherwise I enjoyed the read, and it shows there are always two, or three, (or more), sides to a story. Always good when I start rooting for or against some characters in a book. 3,5 stars.
Carola Lovering wrote a love story like no other. She immediately hooks you with her character development although at times not very likable. Her use of diary entries give you insight into their psyche and schemes to settle old scores while seeing what truly matters to them. The book spans three decades and details the lives and marriages of two couples. Twisty and well written! #TooGoodToBeTrue #CarolaLovering #NetGalley
Wow! I am not sure what I just read!
This book was a crazy journey. I loved her and hated him. Oh wait, I love him. Oh wait, she did what? I got totally sucked into this book and this world. And even when I thought I knew where this was going, I was still "all in" on the journey. I was totally enjoying it and looking forward to the big reveal.. But then... the book took a left turn and I had to rethink things.. Ok, still enjoying the journey, and then..... huh? You need to read this for yourself to figure out what I am talking about! :)
Its a fun, exciting, absorbing read. Totally sucked in. And it had that "magical something extra" that I can't define, but makes me really love a book.
Thank you to the author, the publisher, and to #netgalley for the ARC which did not impact my review.
