This story pulled me in quickly. It is told in 3 POV's - Skye, Burke, and Heather with some of POV's as letters to the therapist. It's hard to go into too much detail without giving much away, but there is a lot of relationship drama interlaced with a little bit of family drama which leads to a few twists. There are reasons to dislike each character, but I think there are more reasons to feel for each of them - the pain, the love, the heartache each has gone through in their life (through flashbacks). Although the endings was a bit drawn out and slow, it definitely kept me reading until the end.
I loved this book! I was immediately hooked and loved the big plot twist! I went into this book totally blind and I think everyone should too. It’s a medium fast paced book and that’s fine with me! It’s really hard to give a review on this book because I don’t want to give anything away! Just read it!!
The plot was quite compelling, drawing me in to the story while maintaining my curiosity. This helped make up for writing which I felt held a certain awkwardness, either in too much cliche or common vernacular.
The reader is given insight to each of the characters through their perspective, and in some pages, through journal pages to a counselor, We learn of Heather and Burke, born into rather dysfunctional families in a poor town named Langs Valley, from which they desperately want to escape. We learn of the extremely wealthy family for whom Heather babysits, and the plan which she derives for their demise when she becomes an adult.
Does it work? When devising evil against someone else, one ought to take into consideration how the plan can effect oneself, as well.
I received an advanced reader's copy in exchange for an honest review
I was in love with this book until the 85 percent mark. Then the last 15 percent broke my heart. Gut-wrenching.
Skye thinks she's met THE ONE. The one we all dream about - he's caring, sweet, romantic, and gorgeous. She's so lucky.
But is she really?
I LOVED this book. Five stars loved. Wish I could give it ten stars. When I first got it from NetGalley, it gave me Behind Closed Doors vibes but alas, it was completely different - in a good way!
I read a ton of psychological suspense and am rarely blown away but this book did it for me. It's on par with BCD, for sure.
Overall, I freaking loved this book and now I'm off to read Carola Lovering's other book.
I love this book!
A sweet love story and a vindictive plan to ruin a life , Three points of view: the young, beautiful woman with OCD-Skye, the tall handsome, older man that wins her heart-Burke, and the crazy wife of Burke-Heather, that wants nothing more that to ruin Skye.
The twists and turns of this story will keep you intrigued, The story is told in all three perspectives and goes back and forth from the past to present.
You will not be able to put this book down!
I am definitely going to look up more books from author Carola Lovering. Phenomenal!
Thank you Netgalley for the free copy of this book for an honest review!

This story, which takes place in New York and the surrounding area, is told from three different perspectives: Burke, Heather, and Skye, and in different timeframes. No spoilers, but this is a compelling, slow burn of a story. Best book I’ve read in a long time! Recommended!
4.75-5 STARS
“Too Good to Be True” is a riveting, fast-paced, psychological drama that is quite a suspenseful page-turner! The story’s very foundation is built on a myriad of secrets and lies, but obsession and vengeance is what propels this story forward. Boasting intriguing characters with alternating POV’s, it’s a cleverly constructed story that delivers several twists and turns that I never saw coming.
Too Good to be True by Carola Lovering was a thriller with some major twists. I would offer the caveat that I found the suspense to be better before the reveals, but a solid plot! It still kept me reading, but the build was the best part as sometimes happens in a thriller. The story focuses on Skye who falls in love with Burke, an older man. He seems perfect - too perfect at times, but she is thrilled to have found love. Heather is introduced as an additional narrator. She seems to have some connection to Skye and/or Burke, but it isn't immediately clear what that might be. The story then builds as two stories are told, and you know there is some intersection, but you just can't figure out what or how. The twists in this one are wild, and I did a legit jawdrop as it played out which is what always makes me love a thriller. Thanks to NetGalley for the early look at this March 2021 release.
The plot is revealed in 2 POV's and a diary. The first half is really good. Skye and Burke's story goes well. And the creepy past story is revealed in Heather's point of view. But after the big twists, the plot goes slow.
Instead of remaining a thriller novel it shifts gears into romance novel. Except that part, the first half is totally good. I'm now off to read the author's first book.
This is a thriller with depth and layers.
Skye is not only navigating a fiancé that is clearly lying to her (well, clear to the reader, thanks to some journal entries, but unfortunately not clear to Skye) but receiving threatening emails from an ex and all this while her compulsions (OCD) remain a constant and invasive part of her life. The minute I saw that this was told in three different points of view, with unreliable narration--who's unreliable, though?--and was a story that spans several decades, I was in for it. The twists and turns kept me entertained for sure, but it was the characterization and the deep themes (forgiveness, grief, the nature of obligation, mental illness) that kept me turning the pages.
I think this is one of those stories that you benefit from going into mostly blind, so I don't want to say too much about the plot itself, but I thought this was a well-told story and I'm excited to go check out what else this author has written.
I enjoyed the aptly named TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE by Carola Lovering. If it is too good to be true; it probably is too good to be true and not true at all. This is something Skye Starling obviously never heard; it is also why so much of the book was not believable.
The first half of the book moves at a good pace and is entertaining if not edge of the seat thrilling. The book is narrated in three point of views. Always a format I enjoy and this was not exception.
Another book relying on the which narration you choose to believe. It was done well and I never once was bored or wanted to quit reading.
Though much of the book was hard to believe even for a work of fiction, the end completely lost me. It would be the too good to be true ending, the not believable ending. Nonetheless, this book provides a few good hours of entertainment
Not gonna lie, I got this for the title! I’m so glad I did! This is an engaging story that will keep you up all night! I was completely drawn to the way this story was told and stayed up most of the night to see what would happen! I was not disappointed whatsoever with the twist at the end and I didn’t see it coming! Some books you should just dive in blind so that’s my suggestion here!
I received a free copy from NetGalley. In love and ready to get married the new husband to be might not be who and what he seems to be. I enjoyed that the main character suffers from OCD and we get to see how this plays a roll in all of her life. The way the past and current stories end up blending together makes this an entertaining story.
This is the rare book that I did not like. It appears I am in the minority with all the five star ratings. I found the basic foundation of the storyline rather shaky. The characters were all shallow and I found them quite deplorable. Then add to that some fairy tale ending and I give this book a generous three star rating.
5 stars! Ah loved the twist at the end. This was such a fast paced page turner and kept me right at the edge of my seat!
Very interesting story-line. The book covers many issues from poverty, addiction, trust fund kids, bigamy to OCD. How far will people go to become rich? A 30yr old trust fund woman with serious OCD symptoms is duped into marrying a guy who is already married. As the plot unravels the connections between the various characters in the book become apparent. A good page turner.
3.5 stars
The first half of the book was a page-turner! Burke and Skye fall in love. Burke is a lot older than Skye but appears to have it all together, is good looking and a nice catch. Skye is younger, beautiful, fragile, in need of a rescuer. She has some OCD issues that have interfered with her past relationships for most of her dating life. Burke doesn't care. He is smitten from the beginning. She needs someone like him. Oh, and she has a lot of money! LOADS!
There are actually 3 points of views in this book. It is a lot of fun trying to figure it out. And there is quite a mystery here to be solved. There is a pretty smart twist that I did not see coming. A lot of questions and some clever answers. Boy meets girl. Girl wants to marry boy (man). He gets her. She has plenty of money. He has a past. Does he love her? Or is he using her? Read for yourself to find out.
I enjoyed this book and would want to read more by this author. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for a digital copy to read for review.
Thank you to Net Galley and Carola Lovering for my opportunity to read Too Good To Be True.
This was a page-turner for me! I loved the short chapters of multiple first-person POV.
I also loved the duplicity of love and money exerting control over the characters.
It also includes mental-health (OCD) exploration, which I find interesting.
Too Good to Be True is one of the standout domestic suspense books I’ve read this year! I was very involved with the characters and eager to discover the next twist as the story progressed. There are a lot of them presented in the book, and Loverling smoothly weaves these surprises throughout the narrative.
The story is told through three viewpoints, and each offers great detail, adding to the novel’s suspense. Burke, Skye, and Burke’s wife Heather all have their own truths to share, but at times it is hard to tell when they are sharing those truths or lying. Each has his or her own motives for doing so, and part of the fun of reading this one is discovering how all of their stories fully tie together!
