n this book, Joyce Meyer tackles the subject of fear. Fear is so prevalent everywhere we go. Fear can stop you in your tracks and prohibit you from moving forward into the life God envisioned for you. Joyce aims to help address fears by helping readers understand what fear is and to aid readers in confronting these fears. Joyce writes with encouragement and clarity. Joyce tell her own struggles with fear and also countless other stories of other individuals who have battled with fear. Scripture is featured that helps to address fear.

This book really helped me to address some of my own fears. Joyce's advice on having the right mindset and encouragement helped me to evaluate and move forward in addressing my fears. I would recommend reading this book and even sharing this book with others in your life. This book offers an understanding into fear and advice and encouragement into taking those fears and moving forward into a fearless life.

Happy Reading!

Do It Afraid is a poignant book that reminds the reader of their strength. Things that go against the truth of who God is will always attempt to rob us, but we have the fortitude to withstand those battles. The author, Joyce Meyer, reminds the reader of the foundation and promises of God, shown in scriptures and examples. It was a great read. Thank you to FaithWords for providing an advanced copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

If you like Joyce Meyer you won't be disappointed. This book feels like a continuation of The Battlefield of Your Mind, or Get Your Hopes Up, but it's right on target with things I've learned more recently about conquering fears. Especially when it comes to rewiring or retraining your brain. Instead of just positive thoughts this one focuses specifically on overcoming fears, or rather how to do things afraid. You're always going to have fear, but how do you not let it cripple you. How do you step into the fullness of what God is calling you to do without fear? This book helps.
Personally I hate flying, and happened to read this book right before stepping on a plane. I was about as calm as I've ever been on a plane because I kept thinking of things I'd read in this book. I'd say that's improvement. It's easy to read, well-written and even gives some real life stories from real people. Highly recommend this to anyone fighting fears.

I found this book to be extremely uplifting. There are many things that we are afraid of and it does take an enormous amount of courage and trust and love of God to be able to do it anyway in the face of fear. I particularly liked the way Joyce handled so many different topics besides fear in her book, subjects that were very close to my heart. The subject of free will for example that we as humans all possess and the different paths that free will can take us on such as good or evil. Also the topic of reaching out to others in distress or simply making someone's day simply by complimenting them on something they've done or said. It was an extraordinarily encouraging book for me and I thank Joyce Meyer, Net Galley and Hachette Book Group for giving me the pleasure of reading it and giving my unbiased opinion on it.

I'm not a fan of Joyce Meyer. I like some of her other books so I was hoping this one would be different. However, that was not really the case. Thank you to Netgalley for providing an eARC in exchange for an honest review.

A beautifully written book, much like all her others.

Having a fresh, new insight on the topic from Meyer's prospective is a welcoming sight. This book took me longer than a book normally does but this shouldn't be a speed race so I didn't really mind that.

I did love this a lot.

I found this book to be intriguing, insightful, and had a depth to it the movie Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood starring Tom Hanks did not have time to dig into. I was fascinated to learn about Mister Rogers and the compassion he had for people. I had not known about Mister Rogers growing up. I was thankful for youtube and the many videos I was able to watch which were mentioned in the book. For example, there was the time Mister Rogers was advocating for public television, addressing Senator Pastore, and talking about how to address anger?"

He said, "They have no one to teach them how to regulate their emotions, so they turn to violence. When they get angry, they fight." As kids, they likely longed for an escape from the violence, for someone to rescue them from people who did not know what to do with their anger – until they, too, adopted their parents' ways for lack of an alternative."

Mister Rogers was a Presbyterian minister and earned a degree in music composition, he wrote 200 songs for the show, including the theme song, "Won't you be my neighbor?" I was captivated by this insightful, compassionate man who walked out what he believed, love God Love your Neighbor. He respected and cared for people, asking them "Would you like to tell me about this? Urged them to share whatever was on their heart." He was a soft-spoken man who paid attention, he was amazed by things and how they worked. He loved sharing that with children. The author says, "Mr. Rogers spoke to the neglected inside all of us – the part of us that believes we need to work hard to earn any inkling of love in this world, that believes, "just maybe if I can work hard enough, produce enough, or be good enough at something then someone will love me."

His song, "It's You I Like," is a radical message of acceptance and care, and he sang it often, sometimes personalizing the lyrics. When he appeared with comedian Joan Rivers, he improvised the words to match her personality. "It's you I like, it's not your jokes." And for a young Jeffrey Erlanger, who used a wheelchair, he threw in, "It's not your fancy chair."…Each appeared awestruck for a moment, shocked with such surprise and wonder that they didn't know what to do.

Each chapter title featured a concept – First Secret – Listen First
The chapters started with a quote liked this one, "We speak with more than our mouths. We listen with more than our ears."
Fred Rogers, Life's Journeys According to Mr Rogers

…"This book explores seven of the keys that emerged as themes throughout Fred Roger's work. Listen first, Validate Feelings, Pause and Think, Show Gratitude, Develop Empathy, Practice Acceptance, Establish Security."

Each Chapter had Summary bullet points. Then at the end of the chapter there was a section "A Concept to Contemplate"

…Mr Rogers invited us to be who we are; he invited us to be our best selves with his unwavering gaze on what was good in everyone he met. His lessons continue to beckon us to take a peek at our neighbors through this lens of kindness and let the darkness disappear into a flash of light."

Mister Rogers Offered the Hope of a Different World. I highly recommend this book to everyone. It's an encouraging, hopeful book.

This book was received as an ARC from FaithWords in exchange for an honest review. Opinions and thoughts expressed in this review are completely my own.

I am a huge fan of Joyce Meyer and the messages she preaches each day. I needed a book like this because I am a victim of living in fear. I always fear and anticipate the worst possible scenario and now knowing that is the devil's greatest tool and he will hold you back from any goals and dreams that are in God's plan for you. I could not enjoy this book as much as I did and I know there is a following for Joyce Meyer in our Self Help collection and I can't wait to share this book with them.

We will consider adding this title to our Self-Help collection at our library. That is why we give this book 5 stars.

I’ve read countless books from this author and I’m always awed by the passion in which she writes. I’ve seen her live several times and listened to her words in audio as well. Do it afraid is a collection of stories of instances when someone plowed through and successfully faced fear. A message I feel is needed in these recent times during our current pandemic. I thoroughly enjoyed the message and look forward to reading more from this popular author. Five stars!

I am reviewing a copy of Do It Afraid: Embracing Courage in the Face of Fear through FaithWords and Netgalley:

In Do It Afraid, Joyce Meyer reminds us that fear is everywhere and it affects everyone. It has been around since the beginning of time, and it will be here as long as the earth remains. But we are reminded though fear rules many people but it doesn’t need to be that way. We are reminded too that though fear will never disappear from our lives, we can confront it and overcome it. Courage is not the absence of fear; it is moving forward in the presence of fear.

We are reminded too that God has a plan for our life and it is a good one, but Satan has a plan for our lives too and it is not a good one. It is up to us what path we choose, because we were given free will.

Meyer goes on to point out that God never stops loving us and doesn’t even become angry with us because we choose fear, but it does make Him sad because He wants us to live the best life we can live.

It is pointed out too that God expects us to obey Him, not offer excuses for why we didn’t obey Him.

We are reminded too that fear has no real power over us if we understand what it truly is. Meyer goes on to tell explain the only way to live free from fear is to confront it, or “do it afraid.” It is pointed out that We can choose to face fear with faith. We can feel fear and still do it afraid!

It is pointed out that whether we walk in faith or fear is a decision we must make many times throughout our lives. And that we need to develop a habit of looking for God everywhere, and you might be surprised where He will show up.

Do It Afraid reminds us that fear is the number one weapon the devil uses against us. We are reminded too that it is important not to let doubt steal our Faith. We are reminded too that don’t just pray for fear to go away. Instead pray for God to fill you with boldness, courage, and confidence.

If you are looking for a book that will help you to understand and even overcome the Fear, Do it Afraid is a book I would highly recommend it.

I give Do It Afraid of five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

Meyer is one of my favorite authors. She is encouraging and provides practical Bible teaching. She does it again in this book about fear.

Each of us faces fear at some time in our life. Meyer says fear will never go away but we can learn to manage it. She helps us understand fear and how it works in our lives. She teaches us how to confront the most common fears. There are many examples from her own life as well a great teaching from the Bible.

Meyer reminds us fear is the devil's favorite tool to prevent us from progressing in every area of our lives. She says we need knowledge of fear and how it works to be able to break free from it. I was surprised by Meyer sharing her experience of asking God to remove her fear. It didn't work. She realized she should have prayed for courage to move forward in the face of fear, to do it afraid. We also need wisdom, she says, to not do foolish things but stay within God's guidelines.

The greatest challenge for me in Meyer's book was to love even in the midst of the fear of being hurt again. She suggests, based on 1 John 3:14, if we do not love we are the “walking dead.” (1972/3644) “Whatever else our purpose is for being on earth, our primary purpose is to let God's love flow through us.” (1981/3644)

Meyer says our journey to freedom will be a lifetime commitment. This book is full of practical strategies and suggestions to get us well along the path.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.
