A really great resource for those questioning if they are hearing from God. I love how Lysa challenges the reader and gives practical advice/tips on steps to take and questions to ask themselves. This books gently encourages us to reflect.
Lysa is also so open and brave in teaching is through her story of how she dealt with hearing God’s voice in the choice that she and her family made. This is not just a book from a studied person telling you what they think is best, this is the openness of someone showing you a bit of their experience and how what they are teaching has worked in their own situation.
This is a really good book, which I truly enjoyed. I would definitely recommend it to others. I received a complimentary copy of the ‘Is God Speaking to Me’ galley from Harvest House Publishers for my honest review.
I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
I really like Lysa Terkeurst but I wish this book was longer! It’s a “pocket” book and only three chapters. I thought it could have gone into a lot more depth! I still enjoyed it, though!
I adore the authenticity and Biblical teaching of Lysa Terkeurst. When I saw “Is God Speaking to Me?” I knew I wanted to read her perspective on hearing from God. And it did not disappoint.
The book is broken down into manageable chapters that you can read quickly, but really learn a lot. I loved the stories, Scripture, and bullet points she used. It helped me hone in on the important things I wanted to remember and I found myself highlighting large parts of the chapter. “Is God Speaking to Me” is so practical, yet life giving. I highly recommend this quick but powerful book!
I received a copy of this book from the publisher but my opinions are my own.
I loved reading this short booklet. It is chapters taken from the book, What Happens When Women Say Yes to God. If you haven't read that book I highly recommend it and this booklet also. It is a full of encouragement and would be a wonderful gift for friends. Even though I have the book, I will be buying this booklet when it is available. Thank you Harvest House Publishers via NetGalley for the ARC copy of this wonderful booklet. All opinions are my own.
This booklet had the basics but left me wanting more. Not in a teaser/buy the companion book kinda way.
Unfulfilled potential I suppose is what I mean.
Lysa is one of my absolute favorite voices to listen to. Her ability to make the most simple events in our life much more profound is alluring. God’s winsome plan for our days is perfectly laid out in this pocket guide. It’s a much needed reminder of where our focus could be and what promises lie ahead if we say yes.
This was short, concise and very to the point of articulating if and when God speaks to us. I’ve read all of her other books so some of it was repetition but it would be great to give as gift! I still highlighted quite a few passages as always with Lysa’s writing.
Is God Speaking to Me? is obviously written towards a specific audience-- those who identify as seasoned Christian women who want a 'deeper awareness of God's leading'. Those who are new to faith or the occasional Sunday churchgoer may not feel pulled to the book. An excerpt for those who may be put off by the title at first:
"Though I hear from God all the time, I've never heard His voice audibly. When God speaks to me, it is a certain impression on my heart that I've come to recognize as Him. I've also learned to ask five key questions to help determine if what I'm hearing is from God or not:
1. Does what I'm hearing line up with the Scripture?
2. Is it consistent with God's character?
3. Is it being confirmed through messages I'm hearing at church or studying in my quiet time?
4. Is it beyond me?
5. Would it please God?"
Is God Speaking to Me? is filled with encouraging words. It is a great book to read during our current times. It is an inspirational resource.
My first time reading anything by Lysa TerKeurst. I am so glad I ran into this one. Reading her is like chatting with a friend. This book is insightful and full of timely wisdom for a spirit filled journey through life. I really enjoyed this book.
I've enjoyed other books by Lysa TerKeurst in the past and this booklet was good but I think I'd prefer the whole book with this title. She wrote about saying yes to God and she has 5 questions she asks herself when she wonders if God is speaking to her: 1) Does it line up with Scripture: 2) Is it consistent with God's character? 3) Is it being confirmed thru messages at church or during my quiet time? 4) Is it beyond me? 5) Would it please God?
Thank you Netgalley for the opportunity to read and review.
Lysa TerKeurst skillfully blends insight and inspiration in this thoughtful quick read. Using an approachable, conversational style, she invites readers to consider how best to make space in their busy lives to hear God's voice and build a greater awareness of those moments when we are called to reach out, connect, or simply listen.
Is God Speaking to Me? is a condensed and shortened version of Lysa Terkeurst's book "What Happens When Women Say Yes to God". While I have read several of Lysa's books, I have not had the pleasure of reading that particular one. In true Lysa fashion, she starts with a story about something that happened to her and then breaks down the meaning of why this happened and the effects over many situations.
The first chapter talks about saying, "Yes" to God and even brings up the even more thought-provoking question, "How many times have I told You no, God?" She goes into more detail about attaining a deeper relationship with God as the basis of hearing God and ultimately saying "Yes" to Him.
The second chapter reveals a list of guiding questions that we can ask and answer ourselves when we feel God is speaking to us. Lysa breaks down each question (backed by scripture) and helps the reader get to the root of questions' answers.
The third and final chapter puts addresses all the excuses the follower (and sinner) of God can come up with to avoid saying, "Yes".
My favorite thing about this book is that is was a quick read but I put it down knowing I will go back and reference it many times in my daily walk with God. It had a wealth of activities at the end of each chapter to guide the reader through the thought processes she discusses.
While I would love to read the full-length book, this helpful pocketbook gives me a great place to start learning to listen and follow God's guidance.
Is God Speaking to Me, by Lysa TerKeurst, is a short booklet containing three chapters from her book "What Happens When Women Say Yes to God." This is a short booklet on hearing the voice of God, why we should say yes to God and what blessings will follow if we do listen to the voice of God.
This book focuses on a topic that I think is important and it tries to answer a question I think many women have asked over the years. This booklet was, however, very short and mostly contained stories from the author's life. While these are very inspiring stories, I would have wanted the answer to come from the Word of God instead of some personal stories of the author. To me, this book was more about how to be led by the Holy Spirit and this was done through stories from the author. So yes, this was inspirational but I would have wanted the answers and suggestions to come out of the Word of God. However, I think this book still had some good ideas and examples.
I got a free copy of the book in exchange for a review. However, I was not required to write a positive review. These opinions are my own.
I hadn't heard of nor read Lysa TerKeurst before this book so I read with no preconceptions. Her writing is full of personal experience which makes an immediate connection with the reader. I can easily imagine as a speaker she'd have you hooked from the first word. She does seek to ground her views in Scripture which is crucial yet the reader will benefit from analysing Scripture themselves to check TerKeurst's focus and exposition is satisfactory. This is a booklet containing three chapters from her book. I'm not entirely sure if I'd want to read the entire book based on these chapters. My caution would be that the content seems more heavy on personal experience and life examples than the actual theology behind those. It's highly quotable but would leave me feeling the need to delve into the Bible myself. I'm sure the author would recommend this herself though. It definitely reads as though it's written for women but as a man I still benefited. One thing I wasn't sure of was that the author keeps referring to "radical obedience" when it seems to me that "radical obedience" should simply be 'obedience'. Obeying God is surely simply obedience rather than necessarily radical obedience...although in today's world perhaps Christians who do actually obey God seem more radical. Worth reading but I'd prefer more Biblical exposition to go with the practical examples.
Thanks to NetGalley and Harvest House Publishers for ARC.
Thank you to Harvest House Publishers and NetGalley for providing me with an advanced copy of this book.
I've enjoyed Lysa's work in the past; however, I feel like there is a shift happening right now in Christian publishing. There is a slight deviation from Scripture in her writing and I think this is becoming common for this genre. I'm not sure if she is trying to stay 'woke' for her younger followers; however, I'd prefer that she stay true to her voice when she first begun her career.
I always enjoy Lysa Teurkeurst books because they speak in everyday Language and not in a preach way. This one does not disappoint. It felt very fresh but also very relatable in that way that only she can. Some books like this tend to be overly formal. Maybe for al isn’t the right word, but this wasn’t. It was an easy way to provide information on working in your prayer life and your relationship with God. Definitely recommend.
I have been a fan of Lysa for years!!! This is an example of an encouraging booklet filled with stories on how to trust God through all things. The short stories, that lead into prompts and verses definitely helped me dig deeper on the topics. I thought this was such an easy enjoyable read!! I mentor high school students and felt that this is a perfect starting point for me to talk about how God nudges us in our lives. This book shows what can happen when we place our faith in Him. It was a quick read that doesn’t take much effort. Overall it was a powerful read that I would highly recommend.
I loved this book! This past year, I have read quite a few of Lysa TerKeurst's books and get so much out of them every time. Lysa has an easy writing style that flows like you are sitting next to her and listening to her talk. I loved how even though this booklet is very short and taken from one of her earlier books, it felt extremely substantial. Lysa always interweaves lessons, with personal anecdotes and Scriptures that intertwine and flow together in a way that always leaves me feeling ready to put her words and God's words into practice. I feel like you could read this booklet and go away satisfied and if you wanted more, you have a whole book that she has written that you could read.
I loved how easy she made obedience seem in this. She gave practical steps for figuring out how to get your heart right so that you want to obey God in order to make obedience a joy and not a duty. I found her words both encouraging and challenging which is exactly what I like in my Christian non-fiction. If you have never read a Lysa TerKeurst book before, this would be a great way to sample her writing and see if you want to read more from her.
This book was received from Netgalley for an honest review in return.
Lysa Terkeurst is an inspiration and her ability to relate to people and lead them to God is deeply encouraging. This short book may be an easy read, but to really feel the benefit I’d recommend spending time in it, looking at the scriptures and investing in the activities. Perhaps revisit it from time-to-time as I fell sure that you’ll find more wisdom with each reading.
I loved how the author outlined the process she follows to discern which messages are from God (as opposed to her thoughts). She has 5 questions she asks, and we can do the same. She covers many other practices that, if adopted, will certainly help you on your journey’.
Its this practical and relatable approach that makes a Lysa Terkeurst book always worth the read. I’m grateful for her contribution, for her generosity and the difference she makes in my and so many others lives.
With thanks to #NetGalley, Harvest House Publishers and the author for my free advanced reader copy to review in exchange for an honest opinion.
