Wow, just wow!
#MNGirl is emotional, suspenseful and gripping. My head is spinning with this story and plot. A.M Brook is a new-to-me author and as a first time read I’m blown away. I read this book completely blind and I was sucked in from the start. It didn’t have the full on romantic feel I look for until much later on but it was certainly high in the suspense and gripping part, it’s different but definitely a good kinda different. I fell a little deeper with each twist and turn in the plot.
The understated connection that the main characters had simmer until it reached boiling point.
Holy freakin hotness Cieran and Saylor nearly incinerated my kindle, their chemistry is undeniable.
A.M Brooks left my heart is in stitches, and I need it to feel whole again. I’m looking forward to the next instalment in this series.
I read this book as an ARC and this is my honest review.
4 Heart Racing Stars.
I really didn’t know what to expect from this story and I have to say that the concept is really different and I loved the whole set up of it. The idea that there is a chance for young adults to be ‘hidden’ and ‘protected’ in this way was a really fascinating premise for a series.
AM Brooks is a new to me author, her writing style suited me, it all moved along nicely with good dialogue and real friendships.
I loved the push and pull between all the main characters. Even though they were young adults I didn’t feel it was too juvenile.
I would have liked more of Saylor and Ci getting to know each other during their shared times together, I think more depth to their attraction would have made their connection richer and more believable. I was also really drawn to the adults and their history together ..... I think Matt would be deserving of his own story... maybe he will find happiness further into the series🤔
It was interesting to have the interpretation of how the boys think things went down and what actually happened. Showing you are only top dog in your own peer group and there is very often so much more to a story than you know!!!
The ending though!!!! I really hope what we were lead to believe isn’t true!!! That’s all I’m saying... you have to read to find out😊
This book is really engrossing while you are reading it. However, the moment you take a break and start thinking about what you have read it begins to feel so unrealistic and untrue. First of all, psychological aspects of this kind of traumas and how well and quick the main character adjust to the new life. On the one hand, I like the writing style that captures and holds attention, on the other hand, I would like the book to be closer to reality.
Thanks to the author, publisher and NetGalley for the provided advanced copy! All opinions are mine.
I had a very roller coaster feeling about this book, but in the end i actually feel like i really like it. Saylor was the character i liked the most, she had emotions one could understand and feel, plus i did not feel like she was too much annoying - some, but characters should have flaws. If they are portrayed as perfect, i can`t like them. Ciaran was annoying as hell for many many chapters, and i wanted to kick him in the butt, but he kind of grew on me. haha :P I look forward to the next book!
So Saylor and her family suddenly became rich and never once wonder how her father suddenly got so much money and continued to live their life. Until her dad’s exposed of fraud, stealing money from other people. The dad runs away with all the money leaving Saylor, her mom and sister behind to face the backlash. Everyone hates them to the point where some people actually come at night and beat the shit out of the mom so that she could tell them where the father was.
Then Saylor’s mom calls Max someone from an organization called Rogue, from her old town, its basically a secret organization that helps hide people.
So Saylor is separated from her sister and mom so that it’s difficult for the people after them to track them. So Saylor goes and stays with Max. Who has a nephew named Ciaran. Now Ciaran HATES her for some reason, he keeps on repeating his best friend Silas hates her because of what her FAMILY has done to him, so it’s basically bro’s before hoes.
So he downright BULLYS HER and he honestly takes it TOO far. Like I got confused.
First of, her FAMILY did something not HER.
Second of all, Silas who was affected by it is not doing anything but ignoring her so why are YOU getting involved? Just because you like her? And you don’t want to? Okay, see that’s how normally all bully romance are so I was fine till this point as long as SAYLOR doesn’t forgive him easily? Because he literally HUMILIATES HER and puts her in ISOLATION where no one is even allowed to TALK to her.
And the funniest part was there was a point even SILAS was disgusted by his behavior. He also told him you are taking things too FAR with Saylor.
And then.... the part where I just couldn’t even. Let me just say, if Saylor had even a little self respect? Or a backbone this book could have been really good? In the beginning Ciaran was like “ oh she has a lot of fire in her, she is feisty”. EXCUSE ME, WHERE DID THE FEISTY SAYLOR GO? Because except for the starting where she just answered back maybe once or twice she TOOK EVERYTHING HE WAS DOING TO HER WITHOUT A WORD.
And omg this part, after humiliating her in a very bad way, for weeks he left her alone because obviously everyone was like you took it too far bro. Ciaran is in the bathroom fixing himself up (he was in a fight), Saylor sees him and is like “do you want help”.
My love, my sweet feisty love, did he offer his help when he was bullying you? No.
Anyway so she helps him and he apologizes and she is like OMG DID YOU REALLY APOLOGIZE TO ME OMG I CANT BELIEVE THIS MIRACLE, and they kiss and everything is forgiven.
So Saylor’s attitude ruined the entire book for me. I just couldn’t even with her. After the whole apologizing scene, Ciaran slept with her at night and at school ignored her and she was like I’m like his dirty secret and I like it. Boo no. Just no.
And then when she gets to know why he was bullying her, she ignored him for a week until he corners her one day and touched her clit and he is like talk to me and she is like okaaaay.
So I was like okaaaay byeee theeeen because I’m done here.
A great start to a new series. This first story starts out fast and doesn’t really stop. Lots going on with the mafiaesque suspense, rogue witness protection, high school bullying and a sexy romance. Saylor as the teen separated from her mom and sis after a tragedy and relocated to Minnesota as part of a clandestine relocation and protection group called Rogue is a wonderful heroine. Strong and resilient as she’s all alone in a new small town after being spirited away from NYC. She’s confronted by the three bad boys of Rogue, Ciaran, Silas and Kai, that rule the school and her life. Plus they hate her for some reason that’s related to her parents. Her mom is from this small town and calls on Rogue leader, Matt for help. The mystery of the hate is held till the end and answers a lot of questions. Saylor lives with Ciaran and his uncle and it’s not long before the two are hot for each other. Not too much angst for the teens just some drama around Silas’ hatred of Saylor and her parents. The writing is good and the story moves at a good paced as things pick up at the end when another tragedy befalls Saylor just as her and Ciaran are on the same page. And then the cliffhanger. Ugh! I’m looking forward to the next installment of the series to see what happens with this delicious couple, the other Midwest boys and the mystery of whose creating havoc for the Rogue team and threatening the lives of those under Rogue’s protection. Love the Rogue aspect and hope the adults like Uncle Matt get stories.
This book was absolutely fantastic. I couldn’t get enough of it. I just wanted to stay emerged in the book.
“#MNGirl was such an intense and wonderful story. This is one of the books that from first page to the last has you on the edge. I devoured this story. The emotional rollercoaster ride was of epic proportions. It was thrilling, fantastic and so delightful to read. An enemies to lovers romance with mystery, angst and a chemistry off the charts. That ending! I can’t wait for the second book. I loved this book so much and I highly recommend it to you.”
So, this was my first book by A.M. Brooks and I must say that I am not disappointed. I have read a lot of bulky romance category books and believe when I say that this one is worth reading!!!💓
Here we meet Sailor , who has her whole life uprooted and is now moving to a new city. There she meets Ciaran , who is hell bent on making her pay for her father's sins. He thinks that she does not belong in this town , and does everything to make his opinion clear. Later when he realises that the new girl is not that tough to break his hate turns into something else !!!
This book is recommended for all the bully romance lovers!!
This is the first book in a new series and I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next! It was well written, and I liked the characters. It was full of mystery and suspense. I would recommend.
I received this ARC from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
I just couldn't read #MN Girl. The writing and the main character just didn't work for me, I am disappointed.
4.5/5 Stars
Disclaimer: I received an Advance Reader Copy at no cost from the publisher/author. All opinions in my review are my own.
Wow. This book has shaken me and I honestly don't know up from down right now. I am kind of a mess at the moment. This story has thrown me for a loop.
A.M. Brooks is a great storyteller. She has a very immediate way of telling her stories. Her narration is very welcoming and it just pulls you right in. I was so impressed with the plot of this story. This is such a suspenseful story that will keep you on the edge of your seat. There were so many plot twists that had my head spinning. I never knew what to expect. I found the plotting of the story clever and exciting. The book ends on a cliffhanger and I don't know how I am going to be able to wait for the next book in this series after that ending.
These characters really get under your skin. I was immediately drawn to Saylor's character. The reader gets to experience a traumatic event with her at the very start and it really warms the reader to her instantly. I loved how both Saylor and Ciaran's characters were very distinct with clear personalities. There was some really great depth for Saylor's character and Ciaran's character had some great character growth in the story. I really loved this cast of secondary characters. They really come alive and give the story so much more depth.
While I liked the romance between Ciaran and Saylor, I felt that it progressed a little too quickly. It felt way too sudden and like it didn't happen naturally. That aside, they both had amazing chemistry. I really loved Ciaran's protective and possessive streak when he finally realized how he felt about Saylor.
Overall, this is a gripping story that pulls you in and refuses to let go. This is a story that will keep you on your toes from start to finish. These characters will imprint on you so quickly and this story will get lodged in your heart effortlessly. I can't even express my intense eagerness to read the next book in this series. The next book can't come soon enough!
#MNGirl was unlike anything I believed that it would be. I didn't spend much time reviewing the book blurb, but I was drawn in by the unique cover and title. I anticipated a sweet high school romance but was delivered such a suspenseful and emotional read. This book set a high bar by bringing such intense action and kept up the breakneck speed nearly from beginning to end.
Saylor's family is new money in a high class world; one she has not settled into well. When news breaks of her father's embezzlement she becomes the school pariah. On her 17th birthday everything changes. Forced into hiding, changing her appearance, her name, and separating from her family, Saylor is thrust into life in the Midwest. Her job is to keep her head down, be no one –– be invisible. But that's hard to do in a small town with purple hair. Especially when you catch the eye of someone like Ciaran. But he doesn't readily accept her into his town. Not with his friends and not in his home.
The amount of emotional heartbreak that Saylor is forced to endure in this book brought me nearly to tears. Isolated in a foreign place and with no one she knows, Saylor is forced to grow up and become a strong and fierce woman. The beauty and pain behind her transformation is both inspiring and gut-wrenching. The undeniable connection between Say and Ci had me yearning for a cease fire while the ending left me with no closure and a desperate need for book two!
From beginning to end A.M. Brooks delivers a fast paced, addicting read that is suspenseful, steamy, and emotional. Pick this book up. Now!
An interesting start to this series, plenty of twists and secrets and scandal involving Saylor's family and even more secrets involving the town where Saylor is shipped to in the aftermath of what went down with her father's poor life choices. There's plenty of tension between Saylor and Ciaran, and also plenty of anger and ill will from Ciaran being thrown Saylor's way. A few different tropes are covered in this series introduction and I can't wait to see how things will play out.
A.M Brooks slayed with #MNGirl. This book surpassed all my expectations and more! Cieran and Saylor have a tumultuous relationship and I initially loved her more than I loved him. But he grows on you and you can see the change when he lets his guard down. This is the authors best work to date. There is plenty of suspense, angst and this isn't your typical enemies to lovers romance. You will be intrigued with the secondary characters as I have and I definitely look forward to more from this author! This books is gonna be a series that you do not wanna miss!
First off, this cover!!! GORGEOUS!!!
When the book opens up, we see a hopeful Saylor at her birthday party. Her life is sort of complicated in the money class world. She attends a private school that houses the kids of the rich. Old money and new money. But, her father has embroiled them in a HUGE HUGE act of betrayal with society. But, the only ones around to suffer the consequences is Saylor, her mother and her sister. Their lives are in major danger. So, a blast from mom's past comes in for a rescue.
This story pulled me in really fast. I couldn't put it down. I don't want to give too much away, but their savior splits them up for protection and Saylor is headed to Minnesota to a town where there are people like her are living amongst the "normal" people. In the community, there are levels of hiding, keeping away from certain people, knowing your status, but with Saylor being there, it goes more in depth than any other person there. Ciaran is head of the "crew" that runs the school. People listen to him, they know their place. Also, him and his guys, have pretty much blacklisted her on everything. They let it be known that she is not welcome. The “hate” is deeper than what it seems. But, when walls are down, Ciaran doesn't hate her at all.
I really enjoyed the supporting characters to this story. There were layers and layers that I kept wanting more of as the story was it was unfolding. I need the rest of the story ASAP!!!

And to treat Saylor like that when she literally had nothing to do with it? That's selfish and immature and I guess that's what happens when you let your emotions and feelings cloud common sense."

99.0% "Can't believe we went through all of this and the mother still dies! And the baby sister might not make it!! UGH, all because of what? I wonder if this was actually from one of the families that the dad screwed over. Though, I don't think killing people justifies losing money. If it's from the dad's actual family it still really doesn't make sense to kill them.. Answers!
These are the thoughts that went through my mind as I was reading the book. Also, the cover and the colors? I LOVED THEM!!

#MNGirl by A. M. Brooks is the First book in the Midwest Boys Series. This is the story of Saylor whose father ends up embezzling money and then running off leaving Saylor, her younger sister and mother to deal with the fallout. Their lives become threaten when they have break in attempts but more so when her mother if confronted. This leads Saylor's mom to call Matt who runs a relocation operation called Rogue, for innocent people who are witness or mainly need protection. Matt has her mother and sister go to another location while bring Saylor back with him which leads her to meet his nephew Ciaran Jakobe and his friends Silas and Kai. Although Ciran is a high School senior he and his friends help Matt out with the Rogue company. But Ciran has issues with Saylor and makes it know through school that she isn't welcomed. This does end with a cliffhanger setting us up for the next installment into this series, which I can't wait to read. This was a page turning read for me.
It was the cover of #MNGirl which drew my eye. How can you stay hidden with purple hair? And although I hadn't read anything of A.M. Brooks, I was immediately hooked into the story. We start with Saylor, who is sadly waiting for anyone to turn up at her sweet sixteen party. Just a few pages later Saylor and her mother and sister get attacked and they have to flee for their lives.
Saylor ends up with Matt and his cousin Ciaran, in the middle of nowhere in Minnesota, while her mother and sister go into hiding somewhere else. Throughout the story you learn where Saylor has end up and why Ciaran and the other kids at school are looking at her with a certain look in their eyes. Why she is bullied and ignored. And no, it is not because of her purple hair.
A story full of suspense, unexpected twists and turns. Heartbreaking and it ends on a cliffhanger. I can't wait for the next part of this series. Five out of five stars from me. Thank you Netgalley for providing the arc.
This is the first book in the Midwest Boys Series, and the story of Saylor. When Saylor is forced to go into hiding, she meets Cieran, who isn't so happy to have her around. This was a great read, well written, and the characters kept me engaged the whole time. This was dramatic, intense, twisted, mysterious, steamy, and dramatic.
