This book feels like a Hallmark movie wrapped up in a cozy cover. This was my first book by Debbie Mason but it will not be my last! Though I would have maybe liked to have read the first book in this series to fully embrace the story, it absolutely can stand alone. Mason gave us delightful characters and a real to life story of two single parents trying to figure it out. Perfect cozy read I would recommend!!
Mallory Maitland has just returned to her small home-town, Highland Falls, with her two rich, spoiled, step-sons in tow. She is hoping avoid the new Chief of Police, Gabriel Buchanan who attempted to arrest her the last time she was in town. Mallory has a lot to deal with: new job, new to being a single stepmother, new house (with new neighbors), but all the that is just a small slice of what she has just dealt with in the death of her wealthy, older husband and legal battles with his ex-wives. Highland Falls is not the picture perfect friendly small town, it seems to be filled with people who are rooting for Gabe and Mallory to fail at their new positions and as single parents. Overall, there were several plot points that seems incredibly contrived and like the author was trying to include as many "nearly sexual" encounters without them having sex as possible. Many of them came across as awkward. This is certainly an adult read, but even at that I wouldn't recommend it to friends or co-workers because of the unrealistic nature of the plot and timeline.
Thank you @netgalley and @readforeverpub for my copy of Debbie Mason's Christmas on Reindeer Road. This book is the second in the Highland Falls series. If you are a fan of Hallmark style romance books this is one you might enjoy.
.
Our main characters Mallory and Gabriel have a lot going on. Both are widowed and caring for children. Who has time for romance? With a five year old's wish for a new mom, and a little holiday magic these two may find the happiness they are searching for. This book will give you all the feels!
I adore this style of holiday romance. I also adore holiday books with the hometown feel - a sweet cast of supporting characters and charm to boot. I once saw a reviewer state that Debbie Mason will deliver to you a well thought out book that you touch all your emotions. I couldn't agree with this sentiment more. I look forward to additional books in this series.
Absolutely love love love this book. I love the characters and the setting it’s just a perfect Christmas read, what more can I say. I cannot wait for more books from Debbie Mason.
Many thanks to both net galley & the author for allowing me to read this book in exchange for a fair & honest review.
Debbie Mason was wonderful as always Fun, lovely Christmas read. Perfect in-between Hallmark Movies.
This is a story of Mallory and her desire and hope to make a new start, be included and find her place after years of feeling the outsider and unwanted. Returning to Highland Falls after leaving in care as a child, she’s brought her two stepsons after their father (and her husband’s) death. Whether or not the boys are happy to leave Atlanta isn’t the issue: they’ve decided that Mallory, and not their mother, is the reason they’re ‘banished’ to the small town and will do everything in their power to return to the life they knew.
When they cause a scene in their first 10 minutes in town, and Mallory faces off with her former crush and now new sheriff in town, the need Mallory has to show she’s changed, and Gabriel’s struggle with the townsfolk and his predecessor make the story sing. With both Mallory having to face her past and incorporate two teen boys with a penchant for trouble into her new small-town life and find a way to afford it all and Gabriel’s struggle with his own parenting issues, his former in laws and his youngest son being full of the Christmas spirit, everyone has struggles and issues – most of which they don’t share until the chips are truly down.
This shot up the favorites list because of the characters, their struggles and the continued growth for everyone involved. As Gabriel understood Mallory’s issues and shared his own, and his youngest son attached himself to Mallory as a new “mother figure”, along with some softening from the townspeople who were still loyal to both the former sheriff and expecting Mallory to be as dysfunctional as her father had been: the story is laden with expectations, stories, heart and plenty of opportunities for everyone to see things with new eyes. A defined connection with Mallory and Gabriel, the kids coming to see the good, bad and reality of their situations, and plenty of Christmas spirit to go around, the story will leave you excited and hopeful in the magic that the season can bring.
I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

Christmas on Reindeer Road is a cute Christmas novel, perfect for those of us who love Hallmark Christmas movies and cozy seasonal reads. The premise of this book was unique and focused on two single parents who are struggling in different ways raising their boys. It is the second book in a series and though I could tell there was a back story, I didn't mind reading it as a stand alone novel.
Christmas on Reindeer Road is the second book in the Highland Falls series but you really do not need to read Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge to enjoy this story.
Mallory and Gabe both have issues from prior relationships. Gabe lost his wife and is raising their three sons. His youngest son, Teddy, is looking for a mother and is sure Mallory would be perfect. Mallory lost her much older husband and now has custody of his two sons who would rather be anywhere but with her.
It is a great Christmas story which I thoroughly enjoyed.
This is the second book in the Highland Falls series, but they can be read as a stand alone, but would be better enjoyed read as a series. This is Mallory and Gabriel's story, which I was excited for. This Christmas romance will give you all the warm and fuzzies. The characters are great and I loved the plot. This book touches on life, loss, love, family, and friendship. This is the perfect book if you're looking for a good holiday read!
Christmas on Reindeer Road
Mallory Maitland knows all too well what it’s like to be abandoned, which is why she has sworn never to give up on her two stepsons - her late husband’s children.
This is not just a romance novel. It deals with grief, guilt, truth, second chances, and much more. Lovable characters. Started out with problems and continued on top have more. What is the fate for 5 boys, singles parents? Lots of Christmas fun. A very interesting, eventful book. I recommend this book.
Thanks to Net Galley for sending me an advanced reader’s copy for review..
I was hooked from the first sentence and read this sweet book in a day. Mallory is a 29 year old widow caring for her teenage step sons who want nothing to do with Malory or their new small town. They want to return to their English boarding school, but without the funds to pay for them they are stuck moving to Reindeer Road.
.
Police Chief Gabe is a widower also. He has twins and the most adorable almost six year old Teddy. It’s a challenge to raise the boys without their mother but an even bigger challenge when his wife’s mom is constantly threatening to take them away.
.
Neither Gabe nor Mallory can risk a relationships with so much on their plates, but it’s Christmas and Christmas magic is all around them! Plus my favorite character in this book, sweet Teddy’s only Christmas wish is for Gabe and Mallory to fall in love and for them to be a family.
.
I adored this sweet book. Thank you to #netgalley and #foreverpublishing for an arc in exchange for an honest review
I received an eARC of this book via Netgalley. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of this review.
It is no secret that Debbie Mason is my go-to author this time of year. Her holiday romances have set the bar high for me. I love her small town settings and typical contemporary romance tropes. Christmas on Reindeer Road is Mason’s newest release and one of my favorites. Following two single parents as they navigate the busybodies of their small town, this book is sure to leave even the grinchiest heart smiling.
Mallory Maitland was first introduced in Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge as the recently widowed aunt of the bridezilla featured in the book. Now after months in legal battles, Mallory’s late-husband’s affairs have been left with his first wife and his sons are hers. Barely ten years older than her new stepsons, Mallory is in over her head yet determined to give the boys a home and the love she knows they desperately need. I love Mallory! My heart broke for her over and over again. Her compassion and need to show the boys that she wanted them and they were loved is truly all I needed to know that she was a fantastic human being. While she is fighting for the boys, Mallory herself doesn’t believe that she is worthy of the love she doles out. She’s built a wall around herself that is hard to breach.
Chief of Police Gabriel Buchanan was taken by Mallory when he met her last Summer, but he isn’t quite ready to give his heart away again. Losing his wife in a car accident several years prior, Gabriel is a single dad just doing the best that he can. With three boys of his own, he easily recognizes the struggle Mallory is having with her stepsons, but he also recognizes her heart for the boys. When her custody of them is challenged, Gabriel is quick to step in and help her where he can. His new neighbor is worming her way into his heart whether he wants her too or not.
The plot of this one is quite simple. Mallory wants to use the magic of Christmas to bring some cheer and love to her stepsons in any way she can. What she doesn’t count on is that they are teens and not really into Santa and his elves anymore. Gabriel’s youngest also has a plan. He plans to save Christmas and his little family by finding a mom, and he has his eyes set on Mallory.
Overall I adored Christmas on Reindeer Road. It has the right amount of over-the-top sweetness mixed with those steamier swoon-worthy moments. Gabe and Mallory are a sweet, opposites attract couple. And I ADORE all their boys. Each and every one of them, even the surly teen, wormed their way into my heart. If you enjoy holiday romances, be sure to add this one to your shelf this season.
I seriously just love Debbie Mason’s books. Christmas On Reindeer Road is the fourth book I’ve read by Debbie Mason and I’ll admit, I have read absolutely none of her books in order. I may be missing some context, but still, I just love these books. Eventually, I think I’ll go back and read the ones I missed, in order, just for context. Also, I believe it will enhance my enjoyment. Anyways, this book had me smiling, laughing, and tearing up and I can’t blame it all on pregnancy hormones.
Christmas On Reindeer Road follows Mallory Maitland, a widow who is moving with her stepsons to Highland Falls, after she has just gotten a job to run a program aimed at improving the lives of the local senior citizens. Unfortunately for Mallory, when she makes a detour at the truck stop diner before heading to her new home her stepsons fake like she’s been starving and mistreating them. So, Mallory ends up under the scrutiny of social services. She also draws the attention of police chief Gabe Buchanan, who also happens to be a widower with three sons who lives next door to Mallory on Reindeer Road.
Of course, sparks and chemistry sizzles between Mallory and Gabe. Unfortunately, Gabe’s in laws want custody of the boys and they have money. So, the worst thing he can do is cavort with the new woman with the wild teenage boys. Gabe tries to resist and Mallory tries to hang back, but Gabe’s youngest son, Teddy has another plan in mind.
I just loved Christmas On Reindeer Road. I am not sure the likelihood of widow and widower finding each other, at such young ages, but I also did not care. Mallory and Gabe are a wonderful pairing. Getting to their Happily Ever After was so worth the journey. Plus, there’s so many challenges that I felt invested, but nothing in the book felt impossible to overcome. Also? The Teddy character was so precocious and adorable, but I am a little bit biased towards people named Teddy.
ON A SCALE OF ONE TO BUDDY THE ELF, HOW MUCH CHRISTMAS SPIRIT DOES CHRISTMAS ON REINDEER ROAD HAVE?
Christmas On Reindeer Road has a holiday parade, a bazaar, they go to church quite a few times, and there’s a few more special events. Debbie Mason’s latest captures the joy of the season, but also the sentiment. You have a few characters who are reluctant to embrace the holidays and then characters who are completely overboard for it. I loved it. This book uplifted my spirits and put me in such a good holiday mood.
This was a DNF for me. The story starts off with Mallory and her stepsons. They are complete brats and instead of calling them on their attitudes Mallory lets them walk all over her. Within the first 2 chapters I already can't stand the heroine, she was weak and didn't stand up for herself. There are things that are being referenced that happened in the past, but I didn't read the previous books in this series, so I had no clue what the author was talking about. The people from the town seem very judgmental and I didn't read the rest to find out if that changes. I really loved Christmas in Harmony Harbor, but this one didn't pull me in the way that one did. I will be checking out this author's other work though.
I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book.
This is a fun story with characters that you will love, especially Teddy, who is quite a smart, precious six year old. In fact, it was Teddy that gave this book its heart. Teddy’s decided that he wants Mallory as his new mom; Mallory wants to give her two stepsons something to look forward to—-so Mallory and Teddy become partners in drawing in both families to celebrate Christmas. There were a couple of twists in this story that seemed to be just a little over the top, but it’s a story about the Christmas season, so it does fit nicely. The romance between Gabe and Mallory is a spicy one, and I wouldn’t give this book a G rating, But it does have a great small town and a Christmas setting, so there’s things to love about the book.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Mallory and Gabriel both move to Highland Falls in hopes of the community being a good place to raise their sons. Mallory is a widow caring for her two stepsons while Gabriel is a widow raising his three sons. They both have people in their lives trying to roadblock their best interests so the last thing they need is to give into the spark they feel for each other. However, with the help of a young boy and a little Christmas magic, this Christmas will be the best ever!

I liked reading this book but it wasn’t the cutesy type of Christmas book I was expecting. There are some serious topics covered as both Mallory and Gabriel face struggles and situations that come with being single parents. One of the main issues both characters face is custody and the intentions/opinions of others that come along with that. Another issue that was essential to who Mallory was as a person was child abandonment; how that moulds an individual’s sense of belonging and self-love, while instilling a commitment of never leaving one’s children behind. Although these are heavier topics, there were still several adorable moments interspersed throughout — especially with Gabriel’s youngest son, Teddy. I really loved his personality, his strength, his determination, and his quirkiness. Without this lovable little guy, their Christmas miracle certainly wouldn’t have happened.
A touching story where two step children and their step mother have to come to terms with each other to make a family. Coming across an old love adds that excitement I feel when I anxiously wait for the characters to come together. A romantic Christmas story. Book provided by NetGalley.
This book was too heavy for me in subject for a Christmas book. I ended up not finishing because I was tired of reading about the struggling and negative parts of their lives. With Christmas books I’d rather it be a happy, cheerful almost cheesy book and this didn’t do it for me
This is the first book I’ve read by this author. I enjoyed it very much and will be reading more of her books.
Even though this is the second book in this series, it could be read as a stand-alone and still be very enjoyable.
Mallory Maitland meets her past and tries to adjust to her present and future in the little town of Highland Falls. Childhood circumstances led her away from Highland Falls, and a new job leads her back after the death of her husband, and the task of now raising his two sons.
Gabe Buchanan, the new Chief of Police, also finds himself dealing with the death of his spouse and now the sole responsibility of being a single parent to three boys.
Going through many circumstances that continually throw these two together makes for interesting reading.
I highly recommend this sweet Christmas read. Thanks to Forever (Grand Central Publishing) and NetGalley for a free copy of this book. Opinions expressed are my own.
This is a great Christmas romance story that pulled me in right away. Nothing boring about this book which has wonderful characters along with some drama, emotion and a lovely blend of humor. This book is a winner for me. It's not a very heavy pull-down your mood book, but an uplifting feel good book. I highly recommend it.
