Thank you to Net Galley and Forever Publishing for allowing me to read this ARC.
I went in to this book having not read the first in the series and honestly I hate doing that and this book was no different. As with most small town contemporary series, this book has a large cast of characters and while not necessarily confusing, it definitely would have enriched the story if we already knew them.
This book is about Mallory and Gabe. Mallory moves back to her hometown with her 2 stepsons in tow. She is a widow and has custody of them because nobody else wanted them and she didn’t want them to go to someone and be unwanted. However, they are very resistant to the move and end up running away and when they’re found they say she’s neglectful in an attempt to get sent back to where they came from. Therein starts a custody debate that goes on for a lot of the story.
Gabe is a widower and has 3 sons. He has his own custody battles going on because his wife’s parents want the kids. That being said, when Mallory comes back in to town, police chief Gabe is quick to follow all the rules and protect his heart in order to retain his kids.
I would say this book deals with a lot more of the characters issues than a romance. I didn’t feel a ton of chemistry between Gabe and Mallory and the focus was more on the respective custody/kid issues as well as Mallorys own abandonment issues.
The Christmas setting was present in this book and I enjoyed that, but overall it was a mediocre read for me. I do think I would’ve enjoyed it more if I had read the first book, but this book did not inspire me to do so.
This is a highly enjoyable read. There are plenty of feels to be had as the well written and engaging story unfolds. The characters are likeable and relatable. In fact the whole book has a real genuineness to it which makes it super easy to connect with. Emotional and with some real depth to it, I thought that this was a very good book.
The second installment in Debbie Mason's Highland Falls series was just the type of warm and fuzzy story I needed right now. Mallory and Gabe are both raising boys as single parents, but they are on their way to becoming a blended family if Mallory's best friend Abby and Gabe's youngest son Teddy have anything to say about it. Keep a box of tissues handy for this heartwarming story! Thanks to NetGalley and Forever Publishing for the advance copy to read and review.
Christmas on Reindeer Road is such a delightful and heartwarming read! Teddy was definitely my favorite character. He's just so precious! I love his sweet nature and how he always stays hopeful. This is such a great read for Christmastime with just the right amount of both humor and emotion. I just couldn't put it down. Highly recommended for Christmas romance lovers like myself!
I loved this story that made me smile and root for the characters.
I thoroughly enjoyed it and loved the fleshed out characters, Teddy above all, and the Christmas spirit.
It's the perfect heartwarming and uplifting read that will make you wish it's already Christmastime.
I loved and it's highly recommended.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine
As I started to read this I realized that it is the second book of a series. I haven't read the first and that usually isn't a problem, usually. Every time the book referenced what happened "last July' but never explained it, i got more confused. Gabe sounded wonderful, but to let himself be pushed around by his MIL? No thanks. Mallory wasn't much better. The step sons, total jerks, but teenagers. The person that made me finish the book was Teddy. He is truly delightful.
Christmas on Reindeer Road was a festive and emotional ride! Debbie Mason worked her Christmas magic with this Christmastime romance between Mallory and Gabriel. This romance will give you “all the feels”. There may be a little set-up going on in this small town of Highland Falls…or possibly just on Reindeer Road, but one thing is for certain…when they look up, the Mistletoe will probably be there.
This wonderful second book in the Highland Falls series flows nicely with book 1, but could be read as a stand-alone. There is a magical storyline between these two single parents, both trying to do best for their families. I loved the storyline, all of the characters, and meddling family. Lovely seasonal read! 4 stars!
This book is fantastic from the title to the story. It felt like coming home and it put me in the Christmas spirit. The story will fill you with hope and love. I really liked Gabe and Mallory's story and how all of her puzzle pieces finally came together just in time for Christmas and it was about time that Mallory was on the receiving end. Little six year old Teddy stole my heart. He was so cute and precious and a joy to read about. I do not know if this is the last book in the series but if it is it was just perfect. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Mallory Maitland is back home along with her two disgruntled stepsons trying to start a new life. She is hoping for a Christmas miracle to bring her family closer together, but what she isn’t counting on is the new Police Chief Gabriel Buchanan having to watch her every move along with social services to see if she is fit to be the boys mother. Will she be able to pull of her Christmas miracle?
Gabriel Buchanan is a widower and a single dad of three young boys. He is battling his own custody issues with his in laws and does not need the extra job of checking in on his new neighbor Mallory and her stepsons. Christmas is coming and he is dreading the season even though his youngest son has a Christmas wish of finding a new mother and wife for Gabe. Will Teddy’s wish come true?
Mallory and Gabe can not deny the attraction they feel for each other even though both of their lives are beyond complicated. They forge a friendship and start spending more time together along with all their boys. Little Teddy will not give up wishing and hoping that they can become one big family before Christmas. With in laws and the town folk all getting involved, it starts looking like their Christmas miracle is not going to happen, but with Christmas there is always hope!
I absolutely adored this small-town romance by Debbie Mason. The main characters were so beautifully written, and you can not help but wish right along with Teddy for a Christmas miracle. The supporting characters were all so engaging as well with all their unique personalities. This is the second book in the Highland Falls series, but Debbie Mason did an excellent job of filling in the back stories, so you did not feel lost at all. I would though love to go back and read the first book Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge. Thank you so much to the author Debbie Mason, Forever, Grand Central Publishing and NetGalley for an advanced copy of the book to review. It was fabulous! All opinions expressed for this review are unbiased and entirely my own.
Christmas on Reindeer Road is the second book in the Highland Falls series by Debbie Mason. A magical Christmas romance that sweeps you away to that most wonderful time of the year. A lovely read that is sure to leave you wanting more. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
There are those authors that you can't wait to read them the second they come out with a new book. Mason is one of those authors for me.
I just love her!
I've been loving this new series by her. Christmas on Reindeer Road is the second book in her Highland Falls series. It's Mallory and Gabe. Two really great characters. I have to admit that I really liked them both.
Mallory is the sweetest thing. She works so hard to make others happy and gets hurt so easily. You won't be able to not feel for her. Her childhood is full of so many sad moments. You just want to give her a hug and make her feel better.
Gabe is no better he too needs a hug and at times a backbone. The way he lets his mother-in-law treat him is so wrong. He needs to tell her to back off. I love how he treats his sons and Teddy is just...he takes over some of the stories, his character is that good.
You'll love how these two just fall into a relationship. It takes them and even the reader a minute to figure out that they are together. It just happens so seamlessly. You'll also love the boys. All of them even with Teddy stealing the story.
I loved visiting with all the characters and seeing how everyone has come together. This is the perfect story for the holidays. Make sure to pick up Summer on Honeysuckle Ridge first so you can read about Abby who is one of my favorite characters. You've got to love her.
I can't wait to see what comes next in this series. I know it will be wonderful and fun to read.
What a great Christmas story!! Teddy had me laughing out loud several times. Been awhile since I’ve been around an almost 6-year old. What a joy. He is the spirit of Christmas. I loved the characters and being there as they went through their good times and bad times. You know life isn’t all fun and games. I would love to go visit with the good folks on Reindeer Road again. I received this book from NetGalley, but my opinion is my own.
CHRISTMAS ON REINDEER ROAD takes us back to Highland Falls. We catch up with some of the quirky characters we met in the first book of the series. This story revolves around Mallory Maitland, and her return to town. When she meets her widower neighbor, Gabriel's youngest son, Teddy, he decides Mallory should be his new mom. With his sweet innocent faith and believing as only a child can, Teddy asks Santa for a special Christmas gift. It will take a miracle, because Gab's family isn't celebrating Christmas. Even with some tough patches, the characters find their way to a happy ending. This story is charming, fun and full of magic. It is everything that I want a Christmas read to be and I highly recommend.
Readers who are fans of holiday stories with happy endings may well want to read this book. The romance between a widow and police chief is sure to appeal. The protagonists meet because of the trouble that Mallory’s stepchildren have landed in and the story goes from there. With the added bonus of the Christmas season, readers can relax and enjoy the novel secure in the knowledge that all will be well.
Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this title. All opinions are my own.
The second book in the Highland Falls series. I liked this book much better than the first one in the series. I really liked Mallory and enjoyed her character arc as she learned to take care of herself and that she was a person of worth. There were a few times when I would have liked to smack Gabe for his actions or inactions, but, overall the story worked. While not heavy on the romance, it was a lovely story.
You continue to interact with the residents of Highland Falls and the are delightful. But the true hero of the story is little Teddy. Gabe's youngest son steals the whole book. This really was an enjoyable Christmas read.
Received as an ARC from Netgalley.
What a lovely Christmas treat! This story of two single parents trying their best to deal with less than ideal situations is sweet, funny and totally adorable. Both have challenges with their kids that are only heightened when it becomes apparent that they are attracted to each other--and most of the kids don't like it AT ALL!
Mallory is trying to raise her two teenage stepsons and Gabe is raising his three boys after the death of his wife. Toss is job struggles, people in the small town that don't like them, two cantankerous old men and a mother-in-law determined to cause trouble and you have a really good book. Add a little boy determined to bring back Christmas cheer to his family and get a new mother for his dad for Christmas and you have an outstanding Christmas story.
The scene in which Mallory and Gabe are eating in his car in the garage to escape the kids was my favorite. It was hot and hilarious all at the same time. If for no other reason, you should read Christmas on Reindeer Road for that scene alone!
I was given a complimentary copy of this book via NetGalley. All thoughts are my own.
Cute and romantic
Christmas on Reindeer Road might initially sound a bit over the top cutesy... but keep reading. Lots of issues that our characters need to overcome that might resonate in your own life; things like parental love, proving yourself, romantic love, reinventing yourself...
This is as good romp to read at any time, not just as a Christmas book. Definitely some laugh out loud moments mixed with the poignant.
Thank you to the publisher who lent me an e-arc via Netgalley; I had no obligation. This review is my own opinion.
Mallory Maitland's life definitely hasn't turned out the way she ever thought it would. After the death of her mother her father abandoned her so with the death of her husband she knows she must do what she can to make sure her step sons never feel that way. Although she never thought she would Mallory returns to her home town in hopes of giving the boys a stable life. Her step sons aren't making things easy for any of them but Mallory is determined to do right by her husband. Gabriel Buchanan is the police chief of Highland Falls but several of the older residents aren't making his job easy. After the death of his wife he decided he needed to move his three sons to a small town where he would be less likely to get hurt on the job. He doesn't have time for a relationship and worries that if he did get involved with someone what his mother-in-law might do. Mallory and Gabriel have instant chemistry but neither is looking for love. The two dance around their feelings, with so much to worry about who has time to start a new relationship? Life has a way of stepping in though and the two are thrown together again and again. Will either let go of their feelings and be open to new possibilities or will fear shut them down? Mason delivers a delightful romance that always brings her characters to life and has a way of pulling emotions from her readers. I always have a box of tissues next to me when I read one of her books because I know along with the laughter there will be a few tears.
Christmas on Reindeer Road by Debbie Mason was a wonderful Christmas story that I highly recommend. This story contained so much such as love, charm, forgiveness, humor, hope, joy, and a bit of sadness. This book will really put you in the holiday mood and is a hard one to put down. It is well written with a good strong plot and strong characters. I highly recommend this book.
I received an advanced copy of this story from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.
This is a wonderful Christmas story about faith, love and believes. Two broken families are brought together by a young boy who asks santa to make is wish come true. You'll love how this all comes about and love is shared. Forgiveness is given and life is healed.
