I enjoyed this story with all the characters within. The main characters were Lady Emma Spencer and Lord Marcus the Earl of Rutherford.
Lady Emma Spencer was happy to have her come out in to the ton but she learns that her father did something that night instead. And she won't be coming out in the ton. She also been having a hard time with her father. That night he leaves and does want anything to do with her. So she let on her on to find a way to live.
Lord Marcus the Earl of Rutherford father has done something that will leave the family with out money. He also finds out the something happened to his father. And now he is the new lord. To get himself and his family out of debt he must married a rich girl.
This was a fun read. It had action and drama throughout. It had a few giggles within.
I received a complimentary copy via Netgalley. This is my honest unbiased opinions.
The Hero swoonworthy and heroine was amazing will definitely revisit the author again And I cannot say wnough about her writing style bit let me put in one word amazing
I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley and I am voluntarily reviewing it.
This was a story that I thoroughly enjoyed. There were times when I felt so awful for Emma. She endured a great deal because of her father and his treachery. The plot was wonderful and I read far into the early morning hours hoping to finish the last two chapters before realizing that I had no clue as to the what I was reading. Serves me right for starting this late in the evening.
While this is a part of a series, you really don't have to read the others to enjoy this one. I do have to look into the other books by this author though to see if some of the other couples have their stories there.
I enjoyed the dual POV format getting that glimpse into the characters' thoughts really helped me to connect to the characters especially during some of the more intense scenes.
This story is a very sexy one so I would not be able to recommend this to anyone over the age of 18. If you do enjoy historical romances, then I would definitely suggest this one. Can true love conquer all, including the sins of the father? You have to read this to find out!
I recieved a free copy from netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
This books was short and sweet. Being a novella, there was a lot of chacter development and the story ended quickly. However, overall its sweet quick read.
Two souls crushed by circumstances beyond their control - can they come together and be healed?
Lady Emma Spencer suddenly found herself with wealth but a horrible history that society would not accept. Marcus, the Earl of Rutherford is in desperate need of funds to salvage his estate. Both turn to the Back Widow of Whitehall for their greatest wish. For Emma she wants someone to marry and to have children. For Marcus he needs the monetary means to bring life back to his crippled estate.
Alexa Aston has written a beautiful love story that will pull at your heartstrings and show you what true forgiveness can be like.
Lady Emma Spencer never had a come out as a young woman, as it was stopped when her father comes home and tells her that he is leaving England without her. Then he steals the diamond necklace and earrings; that were her mothers, off her person and disappears out the door before he could be caught. She is left penniless and homeless as her cousin does not want her either. Appears that her father has embezzled money from many of his peers. Marcus becomes the Earl of Rutherford after his father’s death finds out that he is bankrupted, thanks to his father’s gambling and bad investments. What surprises lie ahead for these individuals as they use the Black Widow of Whitehall in looking for a match? I have enjoyed this series that tells the stories of couples that need the help of the service that is provided by the Lyon’s Den.
What a good story. I loved both Emma and Marcus. Although circumstances and necessity brought them together, they are attracted to each other and hope to make their marriage work. Having chosen to leave the past in the past, Marcus is unaware of who Emma is. Emma is unsure if her father's evil touched Marcus' family. A showdown is inevitable.
I will definately recommend this wonderful book.
Thank you Alexa Aston, Dragonblade Publishing and NetGalley for allowing me an advance copy for my honest feedback.
This is my first book by this author. I enjoyed reading this rather sensuous regency romance although I would have liked more 'meat' to the story. I liked Emma’s character. After being dealt with a life altering experience, she proved herself resilient and practical. I liked Marcus until his blow up. But thankfully he got his head on straight and saved the girl!
What a great book. I did not know what to expect. This is my first book by this author and I was excited to read it. I found the subject matter of a father who abandons his only child and his parting words were that she was worthless and he never loved her. He was guilty of many crimes and absconded to the continent. Even though Emma had nothing to do with her father's misdeeds the ton scorned her and turned their backs to her. On top of that her cousin who was heir to her father would not take her in and told her she deserved her fate. No home, no income, she found a job as a companion. Emma was a kind thoughtful young lady; always putting others before herself. She was intelligent, well-educated and well read. She had no hope of ever marrying and having children. Then the woman she worked for Mrs. Blackwell took Emma to an unconventional matchmaker. There she met Marcus and they hit it off. Marcus was in dun territory and needed a wealthy bride but none of the debutantes caught his interest. But meeting Emma did. He wanted them to not speak of their past but marry and forge a new future together. Marcus was a gentle man in every way. He was honest, loyal, thoughtful and caring. The first several weeks of marriage were heaven until the sky fell down and he drove Emma away. I thought it was awful how he treated her. She did not deserve it. She left him. When Marcus's mother revealed something about his father he was in denial. He then realized how unfair he was to Emma and sought her out only to find her gone. I am unclear whether he forgave her because he was in the wrong or wanted her forgiveness because he too could have been stigmatized by the ton and he realized there was no difference between them. They should not have to bear the sins of their fathers. I am not sure I liked that part. I could not decide why he wanted Emma back. I wished it was clear that he wanted her back because he loved her period. When Marcus did find Emma, she almost died. If she had he felt he could not live without her. Marcus made me think twice about his intentions. If I had been Emma, I’m not sure I would ever trust him again. The ending of course was idyllic. An interesting read. Worth the time.
Part of a series based around a gaming club, and a mysterious matchmaker Mrs Dove-Lyon this short novel has an interesting set up.
On the evening of her long delayed come out, Lady Emma Spencer is devastated when her distant and Difficult father turns up late, snatches her mother’s necklace off her neck and disappears to the continent with the money he has swindled from many peers, leaving Emma destitute and ruined for society.
She becomes a companion to a Mrs Blackwell, who treats her like the daughter she never had. When she unexpectedly inherits a fortune, she knows that it gives her the chance to marry and have a family, but she knows she cannot re-enter society due to her father’s scandalous reputation.
She approaches the notorious gaming hell owner, the Black widow Mrs Dove-Lyon to find her a match.
The widow specialises in pairing disgraced women with money, with impoverished Lords who need an injection of cash.
Marcus Earl of Rutherford is sitting on a bankrupt estate, his now dead father was cheated out of a large investment by Emma’s father, and gambled away most of his estate trying to restore his fortune. He decides to seek a match through the Lyon’s Den, and asks Emma to keep her past a secret.
They both find a connection with each other, and are well on their way to happiness. When he finally finds out how they are connected through their fathers, he pushes Emma away. When will he realise it is not Emma’s fault, and can they have a HEA.
I liked the set up and start of this story, but I thought that the way that Marcus asked to be kept in the dark, and then completely rejected Emma was illogical and also completely Out of character - he completely flipped and the flopped, it didn’t ring true for me.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and all opinions are my own.
I really enjoyed reading this story about Lady Emma Spencer and Marcus Powell, Viscount Aubrey. At the death of his father he became Lord Rutherford. Besides becoming Lord Rutherford he also inherits a large amount of debts.
Lady Emma Spencer’s father takes all of her mother’s jewelry and leaves the country. She is left penniless and has to my a job.
This is just the beginning of a great story with so much more to be read.
I hope that you enjoy the story as much as I did!!
It was cute! I really enjoyed it! It was a rather quick read but the romance was great. I love the historical aspect!
I really feel for Emma when she finds out the activities of her father. But this book is a quick read its cute. The author writes in a way that hooks you from the very beginning. I do wish it was a little bit longer but the book wasn't really rushed. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a quick read and love historical romances
Lyon’s Lady Love is the fourth book in the Lyon’s Den Connected World. It is the only one I have read in the series and I don’t think I missed anything by hopping into the middle of the series. The series is based on a widow who turns her home into Lyon’s Den, a gambling den. It is known for having unique gambling and Mrs. Bessie Dove-Lyon’s, the Black Widow, matchmaking between men desperate for money and heiresses that have some scandal attached to their names. The book was short, so it was fast and easy to read. The characters are charming, and the storyline is unique.
The night Lady Emma Spencer was to have her come-out her life changed for the worse. Her father, Lord Seton, had swindled money from other peers and deserted Emma in London. No family would take her in and so she had to seek employment. She was lucky and found a job as a companion to Mrs. Blackwell, who treated Emma as the daughter she never had. Unbeknownst to Emma, her father had remarried and then passed away in the five years since he left her. Emma was surprised when the new Lady Seton visited her and turned over the fortune her father had at the time of his death. Emma had always dreamed of getting married and having children and with a dowry that was a possibility. Mrs. Blackwell introduced Emma to the Black Widow so she could find a husband. She knew Marcus was the man for her as soon as she saw him.
Marcus Powell, the Earl of Rutherford, had lost his father and found himself almost bankrupt. He had tried to improve things but finally came to realize he needed to marry an heiress if he ever wanted to repair the estates. In desperation, he applies to the Black Widow to find him a rich wife. He was delighted when he meets Emma and he insisted that they not tell each other their pasts. Unfortunately, Emma’s secret gets disposed and Marcus is devasted to learn that Emma’s dad was Lord Seton. Can Marcus let go of the pain and realize Emma was innocent in Lord Seton's dealings?
A very sweet love story with lovable characters.Alexa has once again written a tale with a unique setting -the beginning of romance and procuring a bride in a gaming den. The coming together of a scandal plagued young woman and a bankrupted Earl in the story is interesting and worth a read. It’s a very well written novella and all the characters fit in very nicely. Emma and Marcus are a very delightful couple who manage to get their HEA in-spite of their differences and misunderstandings.A book well recommended to be read and enjoy.
Emma Seaton on the night of her come out to society was supposed to be the best night of her life, but her father ruined that for her. He stole money from the ton and ran leaving Emma alone and destitute with no one. Growing up quick Emma became a companion to a wonderful lady that didn’t move in around in high society. Years later when Emma’s father died she suddenly was a very rich woman with a Chance at her dream to become a wife and mother. When Emma turns to Mrs. Bessie Dove-Lyon at the infamous Lyons Den to find her a husband.
Lord Marcus Rutherford is trying to pick up the pieces after his father died. Leaving mountains of debt after he was swindled out of his money and gambled the rest away. His only choice is to marry a wealthy heiress. Where in lists the services of the famous matchmaker Mrs. Bessie Dove-Lyons.
Another saga from the Lyons Den! I loved it. I have read all of them and they are each wonderful! You definitely won’t be disappointed. Marcus and Emma are perfect for each other, but will both have to overcome Emma’s secrets. Definitely recommend reading this book!
After the day Emma was cowardly abandoned by her father who left her alone and destitute, she found a job as companion for a war widow. Several years later, after her father’s death abroad, she inherits a fortune and decides to find a husband to finally have the children she wants so much. Her boss takes her to her sister, the famous matchmaker, who presents her with three anonymous suitors including Marcus, brought here by his father’s folly as he lost in gambling what was left of the family fortune after being a victim of the heroine’s father. You see a problem arising? You’re right…
Emma is a heroine who had to toughen after what happened to her, but she stayed kind even if I found her a bit naïve – she doesn’t even try to secure her future, letting all her money being transferred to her new husband. She also accepts without hesitation when Marcus asks her not to tell him why she came and look for a husband through the matchmaker, when she already suspects her father is behind the hero’s financial troubles. She’s easily moved by what Marcus shows her and by the immediate acceptance from the hero’s friends and family.
Marcus is a nice hero, a bit idealist, and unlike lots of nobles from his time he’s decided to be faithful to his vows even if it’s a marriage of convenience. He’s in wonder with Emma and we quickly see him fall for her charms, but when reading his haste in buying all he needs as soon as he gets the money my stingy side gave me the feelings he’s a spendthrift (house, horses, carriage, trousseau …).
Between them the attraction is immediate and the feelings quick to arise even if they don’t admit them. They talk a lot about their tastes and their desires for the future. As the length is short and we have to wait a good third of the novel for them to meet, the time ellipses once they’re married are frustrating as they don’t allow us to really see the evolution of their feelings.
And most of all I was anxiously waiting for the moment Marcus would learn about Ella’s past, which disturbed my reading. When it finally arrived (quickly though, thanks to the short length), I wanted to slap him to help him get his head straight – his mother does it but without violent movement lol. He makes up for it quickly but a little too easily for me, I like seeing the heroes grovel to be forgiven lol.
All in all it’s a cute story I would have preferred a bit longer for a better development, but with which I had a good reading time.
together. Emma lost her chance to come out into society and her father the same night as he left her with nothing, trying to outrun those he had taken from.
Marcus had admired his father so much. But upon his sudden death, he finds the estate bankrupt and tries to manage what is left, but it is almost impossible. He knows he must marry for money, although he had always hoped to marry for love and have children.
Several years, after Emma had been a companion to earn her kept, she finds out she has come into some money. But who would want her after the scandal her father made?
They both turn to Mrs. Dove-Lyon, known as the Black Widow of Whitehall who is know to match people together who are desperate. She brings these two together and it seems they may have a chance.
Alas, it can never be that simple as hidden secrets from the past try to pull them apart. I adore this series and Alexa Aston always pulls me in to her marvelous stories! I highly recommend!
Lady Emma Spencer's life is ruined on what should have been an exciting evening. Her fathers actions have ruined many lives not just hers.
Marcus, Earl of Rutherford only finds out after his beloved father dies, just how bad the family finances are. As much as he always wanted to find love, now he must find a wife with a large dowry. Hopefully the widow who owns the Lyon's Den can help.
Both our hero and heroine have to recover from the damage caused by parents who hide secrets.
This is an emotional story with fabulous characters you will fall in love with right away. You will meet some secondary characters from previous books in the series, but each book can be read on it's own.
I loved it.
*I received an ARC from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review.*
This was an okay read for me. It was easy to follow and a very quick read. I would've liked it to be a little longer to get more invested in the romance, however it was still enjoyable. If you're looking for a quick historical read I would say give this a go.
Lady Emma Spencer is abandoned by her corrupt father who fled the country the night of her coming out. Penniless, she finds work as a companion to a army widow, who happens to be the sister of the Black Widows the Lyon’s Den!
I found myself drawn to the heroine, Lady Emma Spencer, as she was dealt crippling blow and yet courageously made a new future for herself. Similarly, Lord Rutherford had to make the way forward for his mother, sister and himself, after the sudden death of his father left the family in dire financial straights. As the 2 are brought together, the reader knows it is inevitable that the truth of the relationship between their fathers will come out. In the meantime, we enjoy a delightful, and clean, love story unfold.
