Thank you NetGalley for the digital ARC. I have never read anything by this author and I am surprised i haven't. This was a good book. I was expecting the woman to be demure and helpless and WOW was a surprised! She was bad ass! I loved the action!
HARD EDGE is book four in the Cobra Elite series by Pamela Clare. I’ve enjoyed Clare’s books in the past, but this new series is still warming up to me. I’m not sure if it’s because of the characters or if it’s because I’ve read more Romantic Suspense since I’ve read Clare’s I-team series, but I don’t feel like these books hit as hard as her other books have for me.
This book features Gabriela Marquez who is working undercover as sister Maria, a Franciscan nun. When she is taken as a hostage, that’s when the real action begins. Honestly, I never really warmed up to the heroine that much in this book. I’m really not sure why since she is obviously strong and intelligent, but something about her personality didn’t click with me. As a result, I couldn’t sympathize with her emotions as well as I have with past Clare heroines.
The same can be said for the hero, Dylan. Although he had all the aspects of a great hero there, something felt like it was missing from this book. It was missing a spark. So while I enjoyed the attention to detail, I wished that the romance was more focused on because I think I would have enjoyed this book a lot more.
While I enjoy Clare’s style of writing, this book didn’t quite meet my expectations. However, I am looking forward to reading the other books in the series.
I literally say this all the time, but y'all this book was amazing! It caught my attention from the start and surprised me at every turn. I love the action and suspense. I was literally on the edge of my seat several times. I absolutely loved it and finished it in like 2hrs. I adored Dylan, he was literal perfection. He was sweet, sexy, and brave. Gabriela was pretty awesome too. She is my new favorite heroine-smart, brave, and badass. This books had the right amount of action and romance.
Hold on tight this one is a runaway! I honestly think this is the best book of the series. It stared a tad slow in the first chapter but when it took off oh my goodness. Dylan & Gabriela are perfect compliments to each other. Their chemistry is not just the steamy kind, but they are truly well matched in the field as well. I thought the plot and character were so well written. The villains are so believable you want to help take them down. I was totally sucked into this book and could not put it down. I cannot wait for the next one.
Pamela Clare has a definite talent for writing edge of your seat, gripping romantic suspense stories. Dylan and Gabtriela's story was no exception. Loved every page. If you enjoy Romantic Suspense, I definitely encourage you to add Pamela Clare to your TBR pile. You won't be disappointed.

4.5Stars
It's been a long time since I read such good Military romance. A good story from the beginning. Both Gabriela and Dylan are great characters and likable in the instant. Their story is full of suspense action and attraction. I loved the mystery of how attraction grows trough the story. I couldn't be more proud of Gabriela when she rescues them both. Great enjoyable read
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book for NetGalley
Gabriela is in her parent's homeland of Venezuela as an undercover agent investigating drug trafficking by the cartel. Her cover is that of Sister Maria, a nun. A hostage situation occurs and Gabriela's skills help keep her and the two American hostages alive. Dylan is part of a team sent to rescue the hostages. When things go wrong he and Gabriela end up on the run for their lives from the cartel boss. A great story for this series!
I received a copy of this book via Netgalley and am leaving a review.
"He dropped the small bag of supplies on the bed. 'Okay, Sister Maria Cuss-A-Lot - or is it Our Lady of Krav Maga? Or maybe Saint Maria of the Tinder Date? Who the HELL are you, and what are you doing in Venezuela?"
Gabriela's cover was blown. It was time to come clean with Dylan. Dylan the secret operative from COBRA who came to rescue her and 2 other US hostages. For almost two years, Gabriela has been under deep cover as a nun in Venezuela. Things become a total mess when she tries to intervene during the kidnapping of a reporter and her camera man.
Dylan thinks this mission is the same as any other one he has been on. But from the moment he sees a picture of "Sister Maria", he feels drawn to her. This attraction only increases once he is meets her in person.
Together, Gabriela and Dylan have to find their way out of a very dangerous country. Things continue to get complicated. They can't fight their attraction to each other. As they try to figure out there escape, they realize they will do anything to save the life of the other.
Pamela Clare amazes me again with her fantastic writing. Her attention to detail and wonderful characters kept me glued to each page
Buckle up for this sexy, high adventure romantic suspense! Sister Maria Catalina, who is actually undercover CIA agent Gabriela Marquez, is kidnapped by a drug cartel along with two American journalists. Dylan, and his fellow members of the Cobra International Security, are tasked with trying to rescue the victims. What I really liked about this story was that Gabriela was equally capable in saving Dylan as Dylan was in saving her! No damsel in distress here. Throw in some spicy romance and non-stop action, you won’t be able to put this book down. While this is the fourth book in the Cobra Elite series, this is a stand alone.
The men of Cobra just keep getting better and better. This book had some amazing action. I stayed up all night to finish it because I had to know what happened next. Gabriela was incredible and handled everything that was thrown at her like a seasoned warrior. She and Dylan had great chemistry and worked well together to survive in impossible situations. I can't wait to read more.
I really enjoyed this book!
I thought that the story was very good, the plot was well developed and there was plenty going on throughout the story – it was packed full of action, deep feelings and survival.
The characters were strong, they had some great interaction and they worked really well together. I found the flow to the story was great and it was a really easy story to read and it was a great way to pass a few hours – it captured me from the beginning through to the end!
It is 5 stars from me for this one, it was a really well developed story and a brilliant read – very highly recommended – it really is a book that has it all!!
This was a very good book, I did not want to put it down. I look forward to reading more books from this auther.
This is a voluntary review of an advanced copy.
I always look forward to when a Cobra Elite book comes out and I am never disappointed after reading it! This book was full of action and romance so I could not put it down and stayed up late reading it to the end.
Dylan and his Cobra team are sent down to Venezuela to rescue a journalist and photographer who were kidnapped and are being held for ransom. Along with those two, a nun was grabbed and the three are in a basement held by a cartel that is out for a quick buck or millions in this case.
Sister Maria is really Gabriela, a CIA agent, who is undercover trying t o get information on the drug cartels and looking for all the key players involved. Since Cobra was not informed about Gabriela's real identity, she does not either and keeps pretending to be a nun.
This leads to distrust and hard feelings but after they each save the other from pretty bad situations, they really start to fall for each other. You start to wonder if they will get their HEA when Dylan has been burned so badly in the past that he just won't trust another woman with his heart. Not to mention that they live on opposite sides of the U.S.
I won't give away details but of course they get their HEA, and if you have read other books in the series, you get to see some of the other Cobra guys. Now, I am going to have to read Nick and Holly's story again and Derek and Jenna!
Hard Edge by Pamela Clare is book 4 in the Cobra Elite Series. This is the story of Dylan Cruz and Gabriela Marquez. I have not read the previous books, so for me this was a standalone book.
Gabriela is in Venezuela working undercover as Sister María for the CIA. Gabriela is trying to gather information about the drug cartel. Then she and some journalist get kidnapped by the very people she is trying to gather information from. Dylan is working for Cobra International Security when he is called to Venezuela for a rescue mission. Dylan was a Seal Team operative so he knows danger and what he is heading toward. What he doesn't expect is to be drawn to María/Gabriela. Dylan does have some trust issues that does enter into their relationship but right now they are just working toward surviving and getting to safety. This was a action pack drama/romance.
I LOVED this book. Gabriela Marquez is working undercover for the CIA posing as a Franciscan nun in Venezuela. When she is taken prisoner. along with two American journalists, by a dangerous cartel, she must find a way to escape without blowing her cover. When Gabriela crosses paths with Cobra operative Dylan Cruz, the real excitement begins. The two must work together to find their way back to the U.S. despite tremendous dangers at every turn.
This book was non-stop action, cover to cover. There isn't a slow moment in the book: plenty of danger, bad guys, and twists and turns to keep the pages turning. I enjoyed this couple; they were a great match, and this was my favorite in the Cobra Elite series so far.
Pamela Clare masterfully blends both romance and suspense to create a fast-paced, enjoyable read!
I am a huge Pamela Clare fan - thank you so much @netgalley for providing me with ARC of Hard Edge in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this book about Gabriela Marquez (an undercover CIA agent keeping a close watch on local drug trafficking - she poses as a nun) and Dylan Cruz (an operative with Cobra International Security). Dylan gets himself trapped in hostile territory with Gabriela (or Sister Maria as she's known) and as they escape to the Colombian border passion ignites between them -especially once Dylan realizes she's undercover (I am a sucker for this trope). As the desire between them ignites, what should have been a straightforward mission of evade-and-escape turns into a fight for survival against a murderous cartel boss who wants them both dead.
This book is Pamela Clare at her best: it's emotional, well-written, steamy hot hot hot - I always grab one of her books when I am in need of a sexy suspenseful escape. I honestly can't wait for the next one in the series!
I have read several books by this author and they rarely disappoint. This was no exception. I enjoyed Hard Edge from the very first page all the way through to the last. It had action, romance, heat and intrigue. The characters really came to life and their interactions were hot and thrilling. Thank you Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Gabriel Márquez is a CIA agent, undercover as a Franciscan nun in Venezuela, her family’s home country. She’s been there for a year, administering to the poor while attempting to get evidence of corruption by the current president who is tied to the Andes Cartel, along with the priest who heads the Mission. Things go terribly wrong when two US journalists visiting the mission are violently abducted along with “Sister Maria.” Cobra International Solutions is hired to extract them as current relations between the US and Venezuela won’t allow a military operation. Dylan Cruz is part of the team assigned to the mission and establishes contact with the beautiful nun. With her help, the team is able to plot an informed operation to free the hostages but Dylan and Gabriel find themselves separated and on the run in an unfriendly country.
One of the things I’m enjoying about this series is the international flavor. The settings are mostly locales I’ve never visited and some never heard of before. Of course I’m aware of Venezuela but it was vividly created here, from the internal political situation to its people and culture. It was just as fascinating as the characters and plot. The real surprise here though was Gabriel, a resourceful and skilled operative that was just as critical to the team’s success as their members. Skilled in human intelligence, she could read people and situations almost flawlessly and was equally adept at shifting to meet the new challenges. I really liked Dylan with his multicultural background and flirty nature but Gabriel brought the excitement.
Speaking of excitement, this was one thrill after another as Dylan and Gabriel make their way from San Antonio de Los Altos to safety, which was fraught with danger as both the cartel and government were searching for them. There was just as much romantic heat between the two of them once Dylan discovered he wasn’t rescuing a nun. I loved this story, even when some elements required a bit of belief suspension, which I was happy to do because it worked so well. Winsome and admirable characters, high octane thrills and steamy romance made this an extremely satisfying and enjoyable story.
Fast moving and full of unexpected twists! Love this story taking place in a part of the world that is particularly hard hit right now with the pandemic. Characters well developed and great ending as well!
