A strong woman who can stand up for herself against a hardheaded Scot, is hilarious in itself. A Scottish lass is determined to lead her clan to a better life at the empty MacDuff castle. It's a clash between Laird Evan MacNeil of Argyle, the new Laird of MacDuff and Mistress Katie Sterling. She may have an old piece of paper she thinks gives her the castle, but Evans knows otherwise. As her clan shows up at the castle, he doesn't turn them away, but works with her to find them homes. A pet goat, kittens and puppies create more chaos with weary children and adults. Nothing Katie can't handle, but there is another reason why Katie left Sterling. A Regency romance with an open bedroom door.

I love a good Highland romance. Unfortunately, this one left me a bit flat. Overall, I liked this story, but I found the romance a bit rushed. I wanted more interactions between the leads showing them starting to fall for each other. It kind of went from 0 to 60, but not in a way that made sense to me. I think this is more of a me thing. I really like banter and building of relationships. I don't feel like we got to see that. But the plot itself was fun and enjoyable.

Evan and Katie were truly awesome and this love story. I think that the writer did a wonderful job of telling a story that not only grab my attention with a romance so cute, but the humor in the book was delightful. Having the humor and the intrigue of the story had me fascinated with how the story would end.

This is what I would describe as a 'middle of the road' story. There was a lot of directions the story could have taken and each one fell a bit flat. The premise of Laird Evan MacNeil and Katie Sterling vying over land ownership included very little vying at all. While an overabundance of angst wasn't needed, having some wouldn't have hurt.

Highlander romance? YES PLEASE!! Callie Hutton knows how to weave a masterful tale that’s for sure — add in a sexy Scot and we have perfection. This story was one I loathed to put down, the plot was well paced, definitely no lagging in this book! I adored the characters, which were all very well developed—they draw you into their story and captivate you, all were very intriguing & realistic!! Overall an excellent highlander romance that makes you want to hop on a plane to Scotland & find your own sexy, swoon-worthy Scot!!

This is a rare book that is exactly the right length - not so short it feels rushed nor so long it feels like it's dragging. I ended up reading this in one day - the pacing and writing are so well done that I just couldn't put it down! I loved Katie from page one and completely agreed with her about some of Evan's less attractive qualities. I don't want to give anything away, but let's just say he does something that makes you as angry as it did Katie. I did really feel for her when Evan pretty much just stepped in and told her everything she had done wrong with Gavin. I wish there had been more about whether or not she did have a claim on the land - that was really the only part I didn't feel got any real resolution.

This was book was set right before the Regency period, but it was not about balls, or courting, or London. This was a good story about a brave woman and strong man. The heroine has travelled half way across Scotland to claim a castle and estate of McDuff. Her mother was a McDuff and her grandmother had the estate stole from her because she was a widow and about to give birth. She lost the lands to a male cousin who jumped her claim on the land. Now, the heroine is determined to get the lands back in her family for her little brother. Her father, Lord Stirling, became a drunk after the death if her mother. The heroine was 15 when her mother died in childbirth and she became a mother to her newborn brother. The property that her father had was not kept up properly and for 10 years the heroine had to do the work of her mother and father. After her father died, a local pedophile tried to trick her into marriage to get his hands on her little brother. So she packed up, told the tenants of her clan to follow her in a week and drove an old wagon across Scotland to McDuff Castle. They are within sight of the castle when their wheel breaks in half and it looks to storm. Two strange men ride up and help her with the wagon wheel. The taller man tells her that he and his brother are going to the castle also. He is the hero, the Laid MacNeil. He was a distant cousin and the lands were left to him, instead of following the female line. The hero and his brother take up her and her maid and ride to the castle. The hero spurns any claim she has on the castle and lands.
This story was very good except I feel the male character did not mature or grow in the story. He was an arrogant jerk, who never took the heroine's feelings into consideration. He treated her like another servant, always giving her orders like she doesn't have a mind of her own. She needs to bring him in line and the story should have made more of his realizing his wife was a strong and smart woman and he needs to let her make decisions and him to realize that he doesn't know everything. Other than that, it was enjoyable. I give it 4 stars and recommend reading.

With the family pile crumbling around her, Katie uproots her clan to lay claim to MacDuff castle, which should have passed to her through her maternal line. Instead, she finds Evan installed as the new laird and unconvinced by the faded parchment she presents as proof of her inheritance. Can these two proud, stubborn Scots come to an agreement before winter settles in?

I loved these characters and the way they interacted with each other. Their attraction is instantaneous but they try to maintain a businesslike rapport. Even though they're continually at odds, they're always kind and respectful to one another (though Evan can be quite blustery). The prose is vibrant and fun, making the story a pleasure to read.

Thanks, NetGalley, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.

I loved loved this highlander romance.. it reminded me of a Julie Garwood novel with its own uniqueness.

I loved the strength that Katie displayed with her nerve to love her whole clan for that better life. She raised her brother alone after her mother death. Katie takes care of what needs to be done.

Evan is a born leader . He has an new holding that been thrust soon him and now he has Katie clam showing up right left and centre.

Katie and Evan have serious feeling for each other but lots of outside issues such as the real reason shes fled her home.

This story was genuine and sweet.. I was entranced with the characters, the storyline and the supporting the characters.

I will definitely be re-reading this story and the rest of the the books In the story. Loved it!

***Awesome Prizewinning Book***
This is an excellent story. I have not enjoyed reading a book as much as I have this one in a long while. I loved the banter between the main characters Katie and Evan. I really admire Katie. She is easy to relate to and to identify with. She is brave and risks the unknown for her clan and herself. She can run a keep; keep the books and she is a healer to her people. Most importantly she is a mother figure for her ten-year-old brother Gavin. Evan can be obtuse most of the time but not on purpose. He is the Laird of his clan and is used to the privilege of giving orders and expecting them to be obeyed. He is a good man, fair and just; good to his people and when it comes to children, he knows what to do. He got on extremely well with Gavin who really needed a man's influence in his life. Katie was not use to sharing the burden of her responsibilities with another and she and Evan clashed quite a bit. Funny, but Evan could be a dunderhead sometimes. He had a problem emotionally relating to Katie and this frustrated her to no end. It seemed that Evan made decisions that affected Katie, Gavin and her people without asking for her input. Then there was a very dark reason that made the final decision to move her clan from one location to another and it involved her little brother Gavin. As she feared the specter haunting her came to visit her. She had already confessed all to Evan and he took measures to protect Katie and Gavin. An excellent book. A must read. Do not pass this up. You will not be disappointed.

I love Callie Hutton and was super excited to read this arc.

I really enjoyed this book. It was a fun read full of banter and great characters. I just wish it was a little longer so there was more to enjoy!

Will definitely be reading more in this series and from this author.

I really enjoyed Katie and Evan's story--it made me laugh even more than it made me swoon. The way that Katie gave him grief from the very first time that they were on the page together was absolutely fabulous. (And then Evan thought once they were married that she'd suddenly start toeing the line? Ha!) Every new group of people from Katie's clan who showed up at Evan's--or is it Katie's?--castle made me crack up for a new and novel reason, and only about half of them had to do with animals ;) (The goat! The puppies!)

So much fun to read!

My only complaint? That once their relationship crisis is quickly overshadowed by an even bigger crisis--one which was definitely foreshadowed, and absolutely takes precedence over the problem that Evan's entitlement caused--is resolved, somehow Evan magically realizes that he was wrong to treat Katie the way he did for the three days or so that they were married and fixes it himself. I mean really--he could have suffered a *teensy* bit there, don't you think? ;)

The super cute epilogue almost makes you forget it, but not quite--still, I put the book down with a smile on my face, wondering when the next one in the series might come out.

No pressure, Ms Hutton!

Okay, maybe a little pressure ;)

Highlander Laird Evan MacNeil cannot believe Mistress Katie Sterling just shows up at the MacDuff castle with this faded piece of parchment laying claim to the lands he just legally inherited

Katie has nowhere else to go and she refuses to bow down to the arrogant yet undeniably handsome Highlander. She’s had enough with men trying to control her and she is quite capable of handling herself.
A story with mystery and love. Evan and Katie make up a good tale.

This was a fast-paced, swoon-worthy read, that I found I did not want to put down! The story was fresh, original and exciting with characters that are realistic and likable. It is everything you could want in a rousing romp through the pages of a historical romance and more!

I enjoyed this book. I always enjoy Ms. Hutton’s books. Katie was a strong and intelligent woman with a mind of her own. Evan was a alpha Laird who thought everyone did as he told them to. That is until Katie! I’m looking forward to Alister’s book and maybe wee Gavin.
I wish there was a bit more editing in the way they spoke.

I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This was an interesting story. I did enjoy the story but I wasn’t in love with the characters. Evan was just a huge a jerk. I still don’t like that he was so high handed and a jerk. Overall the story was fairly well done.

This book rather tested me, folks. Hence, my struggle for the right words to fairly review/rate it. You see, I was intrigued and enjoying this main couple’s rocky road to a relationship from the verra beginning. I am quite fond of a strong, sassy, spitfire leading lady, and Katie fit that bill. At times, however, she could throw an overly, unnecessary, toddler type tantrum like nobody’s business instead of talking things through like an adult. For the most part, she did always seem to be concerned about others. Coddling her ten year old brother to the point she babied him didn’t look good on her though. She definitely did have a lot to contribute to the castle and both clans with her unique skills.

Evan was pretty patient, decisive, experienced, and steadfast in his role as laird. Even when it meant he had to put up with conditions outside his normal preference and had to make a tough decision or two regarding Katie’s clan. He may have grumbled, but he rolled with a lot, as well. Kindness, necessity, and common sense ultimately ruled the day here and an acceptable alternative presented itself.

The fly in the soup for me was the villainous backdrop set-up. It turned my stomach to see that scenario slipped in and used to prop up the dramatic wrap-up. Yeah..no, even the hint of that kind of depraved threat against a child is something I never ever want to pop up in my romantic reads. The writing on and off wasn’t flowing so well after midway, too. I found myself skimming at times before it got back on track. I did enjoy seeing and knowing these two perfect for each other lovebirds would get their HEA. The sweet, brief epilogue did have Evan fixing a knucklehead mistake he had made previously. I’m assuming the next book will feature Evan’s right hand man, younger bro, Aldastair.

I love reading Callie Hutton. Not because of the dashingly, virile, yet rough around the edges hero. My fascination lies in the heroines who refuse to be anyone's damsel in distress. It's that fighting spirit that left me in awe of Katie Sterling. She's no wilting flower and her fierce determination is what shines through from start to finish. A Scot to Wed is a tale of passion that does not surrender until it lays claim to your heart.
