This is one of those stories that take you back in time and lets your imagination run riot, i love Scots men and this story definitely ticks all the right boxes.
A fast paced read with a sassy heroine and arrogant hero. However while giving us a hard won HEA there is much room or more thorough character development. The story seemed a little too rushed at times but it's still a wonderful read by a very talented author. For a light read that will hold your attention with many snippets of laughter and moments of thought this is indeed a good read. I was given this book by Netgalley. This wasn't a bad story but it wasn't a great one either. It left me kinda meh. Its a quick read, short, easy to read with authentic language of the time. I can tell that the author did her research into the time period and customs which was appreciated. The story line itself is very promising but for me telling it fell flat. Character development was lacking and the ending was very rushed, even the epilogue ended on an abrupt note. There was a lot of repetition throughout, a lot of telling Katie's feelings and backstory over and over. I felt the things that Evan and Katie needed to work out, weren't worked out, but rather she just settled with things cause as she said he was so handsome and her protector. The romance sounded promising but was lacking.
Overall this entire story was weak for me and rushed. It was an entertaining quick read but I wouldn't purchase it or recommend it unless you like short, quick, don't-think-too-much-into-the-story novels.
A Scot to Wed is the second novel in the Scottish Hearts series. It was short and fun but full of witty banter and strong emotions. Katie Sterling needed a way to save her clan and get away from the horrible man who claims her father signed a betrothal contract with. Her father had pushed all clan responsibilities to her and upon his death, their home was collapsing. She remembered an old document her mother had shown her that proved their claim to the MacDuff castle. With no other options available she packs up her household and moves the clan to MacDuff. Laird Evan MacNeil had just discovered he had inherited the MacDuff lands and had come to settle everything. He needed to be back to his home, Argyll before winter set in. He needs an estate manager and decides Katie could have the position since her claim on the clan is not valid. As they work together to settle everything so he can leave MacDuff, Evan realizes he doesn’t want to leave Katie behind. Katie is a strong-willed woman and has had to manage her clan since the death of her mother. She is used to making clan decisions and solving problems by herself. Evan has always made decisions without someone questioning him, so Katie has made his life complicated. This was an enjoyable book to read.
This is a historical romance with a strong, feisty and determined female lead and an arrogant, stubborn male. He’s the laird and isn’t used to having his decisions questioned. She’s been running her family estate since her Father was unable to cope after her mother died giving birth to her brother. Now she’s moving to claim MacDuff castle and lands, bringing many of the families from her previous home with her. Laird Evan MacNeil has just inherited that land and has arrived to check it out. As the two stake their claims, neither will back down but their mutual attraction, the arrival of members of her clan and danger from someone she hoped to leave behind make this an enthralling read.
The characters are great, their interactions sometimes hilarious, and the events are vividly portrayed. There’s plenty of tension, a large helping of suspense and a brilliant romance, too. It is a fantastic page turner that I thoroughly enjoyed escaping into and highly recommend to anyone who enjoys historical romances with a handsome Highlander who learns to listen and to love.
I requested and was gifted a copy of this book via NetGalley and this is my honest review after choosing to read it.
Evan has inherited a castle and clan that he doesn't want. But being the man that he is, he'll take on this responsibility and do his best for the clan. He didn't count on someone else showing up and making a claim to it just as he was arriving.
Katie hadn't anywhere else to go. An old family story, says she is the rightful air to the castle and she plans to make a new life for herself as well as her clan. Her reports told her that no one had stepped up and claimed it, so she was just as surprised to see Evan as he was to see her.
While Katie and Evan start to sort their differences, other factors come into play. They also have the added problem of their mutual attraction. They will both have to decide what means more to them, claiming the castle or their budding romance.
I really enjoyed Evan and Katie's story. I loved that Katie took it upon herself to save her clan when her father was no longer able to do so. I also loved the bantering be3tween these two . I was often laughing out loud at their antics. I really also liked Evan's brother and hope he gets his own story!
A fun read that takes you into Scotland, into castles and beautiful scenery. Evan inherits the Macduff castle and occupants and is in a rush to get back to his own clan, the last thing he needs is a woman and a weak claim to the land. Katie needs to prove her claim to this land to save herself, her brother, and her clan. As Evan and Katie navigate this hurtle they butt heads the entire time...but as they argue they are learning they like what they learn. Their path to HEA is bumpy with a villain planing to thwart their love.
I liked this book but it was a quick read, I wish it was a little longer and had taken time for more character development. Felt a little rushed.
A Scot to Wed is the second book in the Scottish Hearts series. It works well as a stand alone book. I really enjoyed this romance. The characters were fun and headstrong. I loved how Katie and Evan played off each other. Katie was a force to be reckoned with and was a perfect mach for Evan. Their banter made me laugh. I loved the HEA and how Katie was able to find a home for her clan. The other characters added to the fun of the book. I loved Alastaire. He was hilarious. I definitely recommend trying this one out.
A Scot to Wed has a strong female up against an arrogant highlander and laird. You know Katie is going to yank Evan’s chain as they struggle with who really owns MacDuff castle. Each truly believe they own it as determined by heritage, a will and a family document. Katie never gives up!
Katie is everything kind and helpful to others. Evan plays his part well and will be brought down by the little lady. She stands up to him over what is important and teaches him a lesson or two, some harder lessons than others. He grovels well in the end so they can reach their HEA.
The real Evan was in there and it showed in the way he treated her brother, his brother and those of her clan who showed up for a home. Callie Hutton gets to the heart of what could go wrong in a relationship and lets Katie and Evan grow together.
I enjoyed Callie Hutton's "A Scot to Wed" primarily because it was so different from a typical historical romance; there were no ballroom scenes to be found here! It was a relatively light, sweet, quick read featuring interesting characters and a unique plot, set in the beautiful Scottish lowlands which is always a lovely place to "visit."
Female lead character Katie was quite bold and brave for a young woman of her time, but she had the intelligence and skills to back it up. She acted as the leader of her clan in her father's stead while also managing his estate, raising her younger brother, and becoming a skilled healer. It was clear how much the welfare of her clan meant to Katie, and I loved that she never backed down when Evan, the male lead, tried to impose his will unilaterally. She always stood up to him and fought for what she believed in.
Evan was surprisingly forward-thinking for a man of his time, willing to offer Katie a job as his land steward even though many of his peers wouldn't have believed that a woman could do the work. He seemed a bit arrogant and was used to getting his way as the leader of his clan, so dealing with Katie was sometimes a challenge for Evan. The chaos of Katie's clan getting settled into their new homes was also somewhat overwhelming for him, but I had to laugh at some of his reactions. I particularly enjoyed his outrage when Myrtle the goat wandered through the castle!
My one big issue with this book was that while I liked Katie and Evan as a couple, I thought their romance could have been better developed. It was obvious that Evan was attracted to Katie, but there was nothing about his behavior or attitude that screamed "love" to me. He seemed more annoyed by her than anything for the vast majority of the book. As for Katie, she seemed to be grateful for Evan's guidance in making decisions related to the estate, and she certainly worried about how she would do everything on her own after he left, but she never really thought about missing him for any romantic reasons. Their relationship seemed more like a practical arrangement with some mutual affection than love to me, which is completely fine, but I don't think that was the point of the story.
At any rate, I did enjoy this book and would recommend it for all fans of Scottish historicals. I would read more of Ms. Hutton's work in the future.

A Scot to Wed by Callie Hutton is a fun romance.
Katie has traveled to the MacDuff castle wanting to claim it as her own based on a very old document. Katie is a strong and likeable character. She is used to managing an estate and has raised her brother. She is a healer and wants to do right by her people and protect her brother at all costs.
Evan, Laird McNeil has inherited the castle although he doesn’t really want it. I enjoyed his character. He might have been arrogant but he also respected Katie and what she had to offer most of the time.
The author created a variety of situations that let you experience fun moments of puppies and goats, to scary moments of thinking the villain my hurt someone they love to romantic moments in the storm.
On a side note, I enjoyed the character of Evan’s brother and hope he gets his own book in the series.
Sexual content – a couple physical scenes and some chemistry leading up to it
Violence – someone is kidnapped
Drinking – they drink ale which is appropriate for that time. No one gets drunk
Language – none that I recall
I received this book from Netgalley. I was not required to write a positive review.

Another potential hit from Callie Hutton! This story kept me engaged from beginning to end. Highly recommend.
This is an interesting read. I enjoyed the story and characters are also likable, but not a very original storyline, to be honest. It is well written and I think historical fiction fans would enjoy this story.
This was a really cute story! I enjoyed how these two started out as veritable enemies, but became so much more. Katie’s strength and strong will stood out to me the most. This is a sweet slow burn with funny secondary characters and a bit of suspense.
A Scot to Wed is a real treat. Laird Evan MacNeil is serious, demanding, duty-conscience, and a little grumpy. Mistress Katie Sterling is smart, feisty, caring, and determined. They have nothing in common except their claims to MacDuff Castle. From the moment they meet, Evan is completely confounded by this strong, independent woman. They agree on almost nothing. It’s going to take some effort for these two to work together. They certainly cannot fall in love, but how can they not?
Evan and Katie are so much fun, and not really total opposites. Alasdair, Evan’s brother, is a sweetheart. Katie’s little brother, Gavin, is quite shy but takes to the MacNeil brothers. There is a big surprise for him (and his sister) at the end of the story. Katie’s clan members, people and pets, bring life to the castle and the story. There is a villain, a nasty piece of work, but no match for our hero and heroine. A well-written story that engages the reader from the start, strong likeable characters, a little danger and a lot of fun make this a must read. Another winner for Callie Hutton. I enjoyed it and happily recommend it.
I received an ARC of this book from the author and publisher via NetGalley. My review is voluntary.
This is a perfect speed read between bigger books. It's face paced, filled with witty banter fun banter, it's a quick escape from the world. Hutton did an amazing job at capturing that Scottish brogue and making it read authentically. Thank you @entangled_publishing and Riki Cleveland for providing the arc.
A Scot to Wed by Callie Hutton is book Two in the Scottish Hearts Series. This the story of Evan MacNeil and Katie Sterling. I have read the previous book but feel this can be a standalone book if you wish to do so. Evan has just inherited the MacDuff castle in the lowlands which he has come to claim then put someone in charge to oversea it for him before returning to the Highlands. Things don't go as plan when Katie comes forward with her clan laying claim to MacDuff. Katie is used to being in charge because she had to run her dads estate so she doesn't bow to Evan like he is used to. So while their temper flare between ownership there desire for each other can't be resisted between the two. Enjoyed their story.
Highland land rights.
Katie has moved her rag tag band of compatriots to the lowlands. She's got an old claim to the land.
Ewan is an overbearing new laird who is pretty immature to her and can't believe her gall.
The obvious solution (or two) was apparent from the get go.
But it was a good way to whittle the weekend Sunday afternoon away and the characters, especially Ewan has plenty of maturing to do.
This was a very entertaining read. I liked the characters of Katie Stirling and Evan, Laird McNeil. Evan was quite arrogant and used to having his orders obeyed without question. That is, until he comes across Katie. Katie is also used to running her father’s estate and is determined and feisty but has a caring nature for people and animals. They are attracted to each other and share a number of passionate kisses. However, Katie needs to settle her clan in their end surroundings and Evan needs to return home before the winter sets in. There is a villain who poses a threat to them. I enjoyed the way that life was portrayed amongst the clan and the way a caring Laird looked after his people. I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Scottish Lowlands, 1818
A determined Mistress Katie Stirling is determined to claim her inheritance, the MacDuff castle in Fife. It was land stolen from her family that should have been passed down through her mother, Aileen MacDuff Stirling and she needed to bring her people there.
Of course they have a wheel break just as they are in sight of the castle but luckily two large men ride up and she hopes they can help. He was introduced to her as Laird Evan MacNeil of Argyll.
"He was ruggedly handsome. A strong chin, full lips, green eyes the color of the Scottish hills, and a well trimmed beard of dark red. His hair hung to his shoulders in waves, giving him a look of warriors past. Any moment, she expected him to bellow and brandish his broadsword around."
But what she was to find out was Evan had just claimed the McDuff castle in an inheritance, and thus the adventure begins!
I loved these two strong characters and was so entertained until the end. I always enjoy this author's stories and am looking forward to the next one. I have to add the cover is beautiful! I read this through NetGallery and the wonderful Publisher!
