3 1/2 stars! I received an ARC of the Divorce Attorney from Net Galley in exchange for a review. The Divorce Attorney was a cute romance centered around the main character Sloane who meets the man of her dreams who is her divorce lawyer of all people. The book chronicles their whirlwind romance and gets sultry enough to earn an R rating for sure. This was the first book by this author that I’ve read and her writing style was easy to follow and I would read more of her books. If you are into hot and heavy as opposed to slow burn relationships, this book doesn’t disappoint. Also looks like this will be a series with the next book giving us the story of Sloanes friend Harper.
Thank you Netgalley and the author Melanie Munton for this ebook in exchange for an honest review.
"What are you supposed to do when your insanely hot divorce attorney leans over after you’ve signed your divorce papers and seductively whispers in your ear, “Give me a call if you want to know how it feels to be handled by a real man since you were clearly too much woman for him,” before sliding his business card over and walking out the door?" Sloan Williams is going through a lot in her early 20s. Getting a divorce, working on her Master's and dealing with unsavory customers at her job can cause anyone stress. When Sloan meets her new divorce attorney, sparks fly and she is unsure if she should see where the steam with the hotty lawyer goes or if she is in way over her head.
What I liked about this book: Sloan's friends were hilarious and I am looking forward to reading their stories. Her roommate was the most relatable. Sloan's hustle in her very early 20s reminded me of myself and how easy it is to burn out if you don't take time for yourself.
What I did not like about this book: I know that the setting is in South Carolina (I'm from NC born and raised) and I know that Sloan is a History buff and is getting her degree in that field. So it's only natural that the history of beautiful South Carolina would enchant her. But I was completely taken out of the story when she and Carter arrived at a Plantation and it was so romanticized and glamorized. The author did acknowledge that terrible things did happen in the past, but I would have liked it better if that part was a different setting. It just put a bad taste in my mouth. Not to mention complete with the only black character named Hattie who ends up basically being a Mammie troupe. Also when a customer at Sloan's job gets fresh with her and grabs her, Carter walks in right as it happens. Instead of defending her honor, he pretty much objectifies her and Sloan somehow roles with it and thinks it's hot.
I will probably continue on to the next book in the series because I did enjoy the side characters.
Thank you netgalley and publishers for the book!
This is the first book of this author that I m reading
Carter is the divorce attorney for sloan. They meet on the day of her divorce and go from there without knowing their link in the past.
Simple predictable story though!
This book was not what I was expecting in terms of writing style. The main idea of the novel sounded interesting, but I was unable to relate.
I want to thank Netgalley for providing me with this book in exchange for my honest review.
This book was amazing! I don’t think I’ve laughed out loud reading a book so much in my life. Sloanes character was so relatable I want her to be my friend! Her friend group was so amazing and supportive o can’t wait to read Harper’s story when it comes out.
The plot and pacing was perfect I wasn’t bored in any way reading this and finished it in one sitting.
Carters character was so sweet o loved seeing his vulnerable side and that twist at the end totally got me and make the story epic.
I think I’ve found a new favourite author and will defiantly be checking out her other books.
I just wish the book was longer.
4 stars.
