Do you trust your husband enough to have someone you don't know stay with you for a while? What about if you had kids at home? Ellie trust her husband enough and if you keep reading you will find out how well that goes for her and her family! Thank you Netgalley and Inkubator Books for the Advance Reader.
She told him to make himself at home. He did.
Life has been good to Ellie – she owns a successful art gallery, is deeply in love with her husband, Seth, and has two beautiful children, Brandon and Simone.
But not everything is perfect…
Lately, Seth seems to have something on his mind and has become cold and distant. And things don’t improve when he invites the mysterious stranger Ace to stay in their home.
Ace is charming, but Ellie can’t help feeling there’s more to him than meets the eye, that he has some kind of agenda. She’s also aware that she is dangerously attracted to him.
Then a girl at Brandon’s school is murdered, and Ellie is beyond devastated when the police tell her they think her son might be involved.
Ellie knows in her heart that Brandon is innocent and she feels certain that Ace is somehow connected to the disturbing things that are happening. She starts to dig for the truth and uncovers the terrible secret that will change her life in ways she can’t imagine…
There were bits of this book that piqued my interest and that's what kept me going until the end. The book seemed longer then it needed to be to reach the peak of the story and this lead to times where I didnt really fancy reading it.
The last couple of chapters is where the drama begins and things start to fall in to place a little more, so with persistence the book is a good read, it just takes a little bit of sticking with!
In the end I felt the story was a good one and although it isnt one that I would be shouting from the rooftops, I would recommend the book further, with a pre-warning to stick with it as it will be worth it.
I received an ARC of this novel from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.
Ellie discovers that her husband has lost his job and has other secrets when he invites a man recently released from prison to stay with them. The situation makes no sense as Ellie and Seth have two children at home.
There are several twists in this novel. Very entertaining.
A good quick read of a thriller. A few red herrings threw me off who the perpetrator really was right up until the final chapters!
When I started reading this book, I wondered if the author couldn’t be as apparent to name the book to give it away. And let me say, she did not. I had read the previous Cathryn Grant book, The Good Mother, and I really enjoyed it enough to request another book.
In this one, there are a couple different storylines - murdered girl, suspicious husband, mysterious house guest. But I assure you that they all come together to make one interesting conclusion that is so shocking, I really had to go back and look at some parts to make sure I understood what really happened. The book is a quick read and definitely something that will feed your love of thriller.

This book has a few twists and makes you wonder what will happen next! I really enjoyed it and will try and review without giving the plot away!
It begins with the death of a young woman who is linked to the family in the book.
Ellie is married to Seth her second husband. She has Brandon her son from her previous marriage and Simone from her marriage to Seth. Seth does not really get in with Brandon but adores his daughter.
Ellie runs a gallery and believes she has a happy life.
Things begin to take a turn when Seth becomes distant and suddenly Seth brings a cousin to stay with them, who Ellie has never heard of. Ace seems very nice and gets in great with the children, Brandon in particular after he is questioned regarding the death of the young woman.
Ellie realises she has feeling for Ace and this leads to them being together when her husband is away networking as he has lost his job.
Things then take a turn. What follows is twist after this until the end!
I was surprised!
Enjoy this book! I don’t want to say anything further as it would maybe give the story away!
I really loved the idea for the novel - really up my alley but i can only give it a 3/5 *
It was an ok read but nothing that really gripped me.
It tells the story of Ellie and Seth and their family - one day her husband Seth invites the mysterious Ace for dinner - before she knows it Seth has inivited Ace to live with them - for a couple of nights - which turns into weeks. Seth has become more and more distant and Ace begins to show Ellie some attention - attention she doesnt want but somehow is getting drawn towards. When her son is acccused of being involved in a murder - she turns to Ace for support - but all is not as it seems.!!
Seth and Ellie have two children Brandon and Simone. She runs a successful gallery and they seem to have a good life together, however Seth invites Ace a friend of his cousin to stay, Ellie is displeased. Seems like that’s not the only thing Seth is keeping from her.
When a girl from Brandon’s school goes missing the police start to question him, it soon becomes a murder investigation and Brandon who was bullied by the victim is the number one suspect.
Things take a turn for the worst when her gallery is broken into and a valuable painting is destroyed. She suspects Ace and starts to look into his past.
This is such a great psychological thriller that kept me on the edge of my sofa. Loved the twist at the end which I never saw coming!!
A must read book but be warned you will not be able to put it down - so clear you’re diary for a few hours.
Thank you to Netgalley for my copy in exchange for a review.
I felt that this book started out really strong and hooked me from the beginning. Without giving away any spoilers, I wasn't a huge fan of the ending. It was still a fast, enjoyable read though. I received a free copy of this ebook from netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my honest feedback.
This book has just what I love in a thriller: a loving mother, a sketchy husband, a new houseguest the wife is attracted to, and a murder of a local teen who had been bullying her son. You just know nothing will go as planned! The mother, Ellie is very relatable as she has a great career, loves both her son and her daughter, and balks at the fact her husband, Seth brings home a "friend" for dinner one night and invites him to stay for a few weeks. We just know it's downhill from here on in. And when the police show up to question her 14-year-old son in the murder of his classmate, she is fiercely protective but wants to shield her son from innuendo. What could go wrong? EVERYTHING! This one keeps you guessing until the final page!
Ellie's husband Seth brings a friends cousin to live with them and their two children. Ellie is not very fond of the idea and strange things begin to happen. There is a murder in the area of a local school girl. Ellie's husband Seth is acting strange, her son is having trouble in school and things have really changed in the home. This book is a psychological thriller- i enjoyed it, i didn't love it. There is far better thrillers out there. However this book kept me engaged, i liked the twists throughout and overall i did enjoy it. Its definitely worth a read.
Ellie owns a successful Art Gallery that she has built up on her own. She is financially comfortable with the income the gallery is making and lives with her husband Seth and her two children Brandon and Simone.
When Seth starts behaving oddly Ellie discovers he has been keeping secrets from her. He brings home an unexpected house guest with out any discussion, a complete stranger. Ace is good looking and seems to get along great with the kids but is stirring up feelings Ellie does not want to admit.
A young girl from Brandon's school has been murdered and the police are questioning him after it has been revealed she had been bullying him and making his life miserable. Ellie is convinced Brandon is innocent and having Ace in the house seems to be helping Seth deal with the whole situation but something about Ace doesn't seem right. Who is he and why is he staying with them?

This book was SO good it is the 2nd book by this Author I have read it kept me hooked from the start & I did not expect the the ending I would highly recommend this book & Author!
I did enjoy The Guest by Cathryn Grant. This was my first book by this author and I will check out more by her. I feel though that if it wasn’t for the ending my rating would have been a touch lower. Overall I feel this was an okay read with a great ending.
Thank you to Netgalley, Inkubator Books and the Author, Cathryn Grant for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
What a wild ride of a read!
This book started out as a family story of taking in a semi stranger to becoming a whodunit thriller.
A very good, easy page turner read.
I hope to read more from this Author.
This book is a good thriller but has a lot of situations taking place at the same time. There are plenty of character so it took some time before it flowed but it is a good story.
Perfect families always look better from the other side of the street, but just walk across the street and those well sewn seams will loosen and fray.
Liked the conclusion and not something I saw coming.
Thank you netgalley for the ARC in exchange for my honest review.
This book was awesome! It had just the right balance of nail biting anxiety and mystery. There were multiple threads to the story and an ending that took me completely by surprise. From the moment I picked it up, I needed to know how it was going to end. It was fast paced with just enough stress to make a perfect thriller.
This book started off very well but seemed to lose pace mid way. After a brilliant start, it ended up as only an OK read
The Guest started of in a pretty good pace and a solid premise. At the beginning, the first person narrative really transpired Ellie's worries about her family. But halfway through it began to drag on and I found myself skimping through to pages (So much focus on the type and amount of wine they consumed!). A lot of Ellie's assumptions about all the things that's happening around her are not very logical (why is her son always the first suspect?) The big twist at the end definitely saved the book from being a total disappointment.
The Guest is a thriller centering around a small family and a series of events that happens all at once. A neighborhood girl is murdered, an unexpected guest moves in, and there is discord among the family members. It sounds like a great setup for a thriller, but I found this book to be very slow. It was difficult to connect with the characters. Ellie, the main character, was aloof and untouchable, the perfect housewife trying to manage a career and her family. You never really got the opportunity to connect with other characters. It took me about 2 weeks to get through this book, and normally I read something like this in 3 or 4 days.
The last quarter of the book is where things really picked up for me, and I couldn't put it down. I wanted to know what was going to happen. I made guesses about what I thought was really happening, and when the final conclusion was reached, I was very surprised. This might be the brilliance of this book.....slow, slow, plodding along, typical American family, and then boom! Things are not always what they seem. This is what took the book from 3 to 4 stars for me.
Thank you to #NetGalley for providing me with a copy of The Guest. All opinions are my own.
