A great adaptation perfect for introducing younger readers to tge stories of jane Austin. Thank you net galley
This is written by Jane Austen and adapted by Gemma Barder. It is a wonderful retelling of classic literature. If you have read it before it is worth reading this version and if you are new to it this is a good option as an introduction. It is a great first reading for children. Even if you have read it before and enjoyed it, but thought it was cumbersome at times, you might find this reading more enjoyable. It is straightforward and less wordy. It gives a nice condensed reading to this wonderful story. It does justice to the classic and I recommend it.
This was a great re-telling of pride and prejudice. I got this specifically for my daughter because I personally love pride and prejudice so much.
This is a children's version of Pride and Prejudice. I have read the original version of Pride and Prejudice. While I enjoyed the story, it was quite wordy and harder to read. This story is a good way to introduce someone to the works of Jane Austen. It is well done and captures the story well. I think readers of all ages would enjoy this condensed version of Pride and Prejudice.
I recommend this to readers who want to read the classics but found them to be hard to read.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher. All views expressed are only my honest opinion.
A beautiful adaptation! I’ll definitely be keeping my eye on this book for any children coming into my life, spreading my own love for Austen on to them!
I love these children's book adaptations of the classics, and this one was really cute. I like the original Pride and Prejudice and this adaptation did not disappoint. The illustrations were adorable and really well done, too!
If I have a kid right now, I would totally buy this book. The illustrations are great and this is a great introduction to a classic story.
I am one who loves all things Pride and Prejudice usually and this was no exception. I loved the writing and the adaptation of it. Excellent book!
An enchanting children's (and those young at heart) retelling of Jane Austen's classic Pride and Prejudice. Adaptor Gemma Barder has selected the essence of Austen's prose making the story accessible to young readers. The illustrations are delightful and help the reader connect with the characters. A perfect gift to introduce Austen to young readers, and for those who you want to convert!!!
I have never read Pride and Prejudice, but this was a great introduction for young readers. This adaptation breaks the story down into a manageable size, keeping to the key points of the story with illustrations and clear vocabulary throughout. I can only imagine how intimidating the full text might look to young readers and this book introduces the classic tale, without the big chunky book that we are used to. It could be a great place to start giving younger (and older) readers a taste for the full story before leading into the original text.
I have already recommended purchasing this and others like it for our school library.
Pride and Prejudice (Jane Austen Children's Stories) is a beautifully illustrated adaptation perfect for children or just Jane Austen fans 🙋🏻♀️.
I really enjoyed this book. I have never read Pride and Prejudice before, so this was a nice introduction to the story. This is especially a good introduction for younger children. Also, the illustrations were really good, which helped.
The language is really easy to understand and the illustrations are very cute, but it cut on a lot of parts to try to keep it short and understandable for children and I feel like it lost all of its charms while doing so. It felt like reading an oversemplified summary, so I didn't enjoy it as much as I expected to.
I really loved this fun adaption! I read it along with my god daughter, and she really enjoyed it too!
I love re-tellings aimed at a younger audience!

A perfect introduction to Austen's classic. This simplified version of the story is very well done, and beautifully presented featuring cute illustrations within the text. My three children are all currently under the age of five, however I'm constantly on the lookout for classics to collect for them when they're older. I'm more than happy to add this to the collection upon it's release.

This is a beautiful book and one that I will most definitely be purchasing for my school, as well as gifting for my nieces. The language is age appropriate and true to the original works.
Before I read this, I wondered how P&P could be adapted for kids, and was pleasantly surprised by this book. This adaption captures the story well, and hits the main points of the original without being overwhelming for the intended audience. The artwork is really sweet too!

I really enjoyed this version of Pride and Prejudice. I'm happy to share this with my niece so she can be introduced to the same great story I love, in a condensed manner.
This was such a cute re-telling of one of my favorite stories! If you're a fan or Jane Austen, and especially Pride and Prejudice, then this is a must to pick up for a child in your life. The art style is lovely, I only wish the characters were a bit more easily differentiable.
This version of Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice has been rewritten for a younger audience. As it’s a children’s version, one of the important jobs the author has had to do is explain some of the things that might not make sense to a modern child. I thought the author here did a great job of explaining things within the flow of the story. Although this is a simplified version, all the important plot points are covered. Having said that, there were some things that I felt were misrepresented – some facts relating to Wickham, and it being said that Elizabeth had overheard the ‘tolerable’ insult and made sure Mr Darcy knew that she had heard. This just didn’t happen, and if it had the relationship dynamic would have been quite different and he wouldn’t have been thinking of her regard so smugly later on! In the main though, the plot is covered well and explained clearly.
The book has quite a few illustrations, which are very nice, although I would have loved to have seen them in colour. I read this on kindle, but I believe the illustrations are also black and white in the printed copy.
This book is part of a set of books retelling Austen’s stories - the six main novels plus Love and Freindship (sic) and another book - I'm not entirely sure what this one is, but it's called My Story Journal so presumably it's one for the child to write in.
The question is whether to buy or not to buy. Well, I am not entirely sold on the concept of classics being rewritten for children. The first time I read Pride & Prejudice as a teen I didn’t know anything about the story, and was able to discover it fresh. I think much of the enjoyment in Austen comes from her use of language rather than her plots – she truly was a mistress at turning a phrase – and while there are echoes of some of her quotes in this book, it’s a simplified version and doesn’t use such sophisticated language.
My concern is whether a child reading a book such as this would be dissuaded from picking up the original, feeling that it’s a book they’d read already. Reading the plot of an Austen story is by no means reading Austen! However, if you like buying classics rewritten for children, I would say that this is a good rewrite – it has all the main plot points and most of the facts clearly described and is quite a good read in its own right. It also has a very cute cover so if I bought it for a child I'd be inclined to get the hard copy. This would be a good addition to the bookshelves of a child who reads classic rewrites and I'd rate it as a 4 star read.
