This is my first time reading anything by this author.
This book was a decent read for me. I just wished that we got more information on how two different vampires came to be. Also how old was Quill ? Just some small details I wish had been written about.
I really liked Quill not so much Callie.
Amanda Ashley pens yet another great read! I love Callie and Quill. I hope we see more Falconer stories..
Quill and Callie's story in Enchant the Night by Amanda Ashley was the first book I've read by her. I loved, loved, loved this story! I'm going to have to backtrack and read the previous books in this series! I highly recommend this book!
Normally I have a hard time finding the words for a book because I enjoy it so much that I want to spoil all the surprises and it’s hard not to do that in a review, but I am sad to say that is just not the case with this story. To be honest, it would have ended up in the DNF pile if I didn’t have an obligation to finish the story in order to review it. I have read a lot of different authors, with different takes on the vampire myth and usually love when they pull in witchcraft too, but this one did not strike my fancy at all. The meeting between Callie and Quill was simple enough, but then story just went off the rails. The romance between them was not believable to me as there was no instant mate feeling, there was no slow buildup of passion or feeling and there was very little depth to their connection I could feel. There was also just entirely too much going on in this story. First there were these knights, and then there was Callie learning about a secret legacy of witchcraft in her family, and a family member coming back from the grave. Then it just got even more and more complicated and it just became too much for the story to carry it. Quill is not a very likeable vampire, one minute being a showoff flaunting his money and power and the next he being a badass killing machine defeating his enemies, but the character just wasn’t balanced or believable to me. Callie also struck me as weak character, very superficial, especially in that she never asked the right questions, just going along with everything that Quill says even when she is uncomfortable with the situation. I have read other stories by this author in the past and liked them more, but not enough to keep trying, maybe this author and I just don’t see eye-to-eye, but I can’t see myself enjoying another story by her.
Amanda Ashley is a favorite author of mine. Never disappointing, Enchant the Night surprised me, entertained me, and kept my interest to the end. Thanks to this wonderful Author, I’m looking forward to my next read!
I hate that it took me so long to dig into this book, but the wait was definitely worth it. I devour this book in one night, and spent the rest of the next day rehashing it. So good!
I received an advance reader copy from #NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
This book is not my genre. There were many things that I did not personally like about the storyline.
HOWEVER, the author is an amazing writer, and I couldn't put the book down. If witches and vampires are your thing, you will LOVE this book.
Here's what I did enjoy (other than the amazing writing by the author; major kudos!!):
- Quill (leading man) is honest and open with Callie (leading lady).
- There are some nice plot twists that I didn't see coming at all.
- The body count is high for a romance novel. That was different, and I found it enjoyable.
- Callie has a major development arc in this story, and it really helps drive the book.
- There is very little downtime in the book. It is a read that you can just enjoy and keep going without getting too mad at the characters. Very nice change from some of the books I've read lately.
Overall I give 4 stars because of how well written this book is. If the author writes in some other genre, I would definitely read.
This one was not for me, i think i have missed the Amanda Ashley train. I thought it was overall ok and would recommend A friend still. The writing and story telling was good, just i was looking for something else.
I enjoy Amanda Ashley books and this was no exception. Spooky and sexy - it was a fun read. I will be of course looking for more to read & recommend.
Enchant the Night by Amanda Ashley is the story of Quill Falconer and Callie Hathaway.
Quill is a vampire who is over a 100 year old who is used to taken blood and then wiping the memory of his victim away. But when he takes from Callie he feels something different then he tries to wipe her memory of the incident but it doesn't work. Callie was raised by her grandmother who she has now lost. When Quill is attacked by the Knights of the Dark Wood, she saves him and keeps him hidden while he recovers. A trust is starting to build between the two along with the growing danger. I enjoyed their story.
This book is normally right up my alley and one that I feel can be very...overdone in terms of feeling like each book essentially follows the same formula as the one before it. I was a little wary about Enchant the Night doing the same, however I was very happy to be proven wrong.
Enchant the Night follows our two main characters, a witch female and a vampire male. What I especially liked about the vampire was that he didn't why away from his nature and would feed on humans as needed, but still had a strong conscious to keep him from dropping entirely into cruelty and abuse.
I liked the fact that the female love interest wasn't a plain, weak human but a witch with powers of her own right and someone that could be an 'equal' to the all-powerful vampire.
I can't quite profess enough how different this novel is. There is am immediate attraction for both parties, both vampire and witch, and the insta-love - whilst something I don't normally like whatsoever - feels a little more acceptable in this novel because the love that comes about so quickly, feels moreso because of the magic and fate that brings them together, so feels more natural. Rather than a teenage girl infatuated with a powerful vampire, the attraction seems to come from more magical and fateful powers.
Overall, this one was quite different to how I was expecting in many ways. The pacing was quite good, the romance was sweet but the most fun for me personally was the mystery and intrigue of our main character's magic and her journey to harnessing her powers and learning about her history.
Amanda Ashley has written about 43 paranormal romance and I feel like she may be getting burned out. while there was nothing wrong with 'Enchant the Night" there was nothing special either. It was sweet, cute, and had a HEA. It had a good mystery and that spooky feel that she manages to achieve every time. but now I feel like she is following a formula. Important moments happen approximately at the same time in each book. There heroines and heroes have the same inner thoughts. I hope that in the future she shakes things up, I don't need a major change just something to surprise me. Right now, however, she is starting to lose my attention.
I’m sorry but this story is just one long cliche. WARNING SPOILERS. It begins with a secret society of Knights with invisiblity cloaks whose mission is to hunt and rid the world of Hungarian vampires. These vampires are born, not made and can reproduce (apparently other vampires ar ok).. Quill is a Hungarian vampire. He is described as a Perfect cliche vampire, tall, broad shouldered, grey eyes, long brown silky hair, etc. Suddenly he encounters a slim girl, Callie. She has the deepest colored blue eyes, long wheat colored hair in tresses and is wearing stilettos, etc. He has a taste of her blood but erases her memory of it and yet she remembers later. She is so different, blah, blah, blah. She can’t forget about him and dreams of him nightly. She agrees to meet him in a park at night (really?) where he drinks her blood again.. Next night, same thing only the 600 year old vampire is attacked by the Knights. He kills two of them but is badly injured. She must save him. She takes him to her home and feeds him regularly. After a few days she needs to get out so goes to the mall and buys a bunch of expensive things and feels better then returns to her vampire. GAH! I had to stop there. It’s just so formulaic and really insulting to readers. I forgot to mention that she figured out she was a witch but was very blasé about it. I know urban fantasy is not really cerebral but I expect better than this. I did not/could not finish this story. Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for giving me an ARC in exchange for a fair and honest review. All opinions expressed are my own.
This book is the story of Hungarian Vampire Quill Falconer and mortal Callie Hathaway. They come together when after Quill feeds from her wipes her mind she regains the memory. He returns with the intent to kill her, but is to fascinated by her to follow his initial plan. Both are attracted to each other. The relationship begins to develop, but the machinations of the Knights of the Dark Woods keeps throwing up road blocks. The Knights of the Dark Woods are fanatics that will stop at nothing to wipe Hungarian Vampires from existence. It seems it is because they are able to procreate with mortal women.
I enjoyed this book and felt it provided a solid foundation for its world. It is always interesting to see what rules, etc. an author will incorporate into their paranormal world. This book is currently listed as a stand alone, but it would be a good precursor for future books. I would recommend this book to readers who enjoy Rebecca Zanetti’s Dark Protectors series.
I was provided an ARC by NetGalley and Zebra publishing for an honest review.
I’ve read and enjoyed other Amanda Ashley paranormal books before so I figured this title, Enchant the Night would be a good addition to my readers vault but I was rather disappointed.
I was not able to connect with the characters of Callie and Quill because they themselves were lackluster. I felt like the excitement I found in her previous vampire novels where I could not wait to turn the page was not there. Callie herself hasn’t much interest in what is happening in her life, so why would I feel interested as well. The next day after she is bitten by Quill she remembers it happening and is unsure and doesn’t go into a panic or anxiety. She just files it away it seems and when she figures that her grandma must have truly been a witch as she suspected and thus she’s a witch too, it’s still like, uh ok I’m a witch.
Quill who is a master vampire who’s been around for 600 years is just as jaded. He discovers a human whose mind was not wiped as he anticipated and at first is like, oh I’ll go do it again. He’s not immediately on guard or anything and seething with curiosity. He suspects that he’s ran into an ancestor of Callie but pushes it in the background as well. He is attacked during a feeding where he is caught unawares and it’s just too much to take in. You’re 600 years old people shouldn’t be getting the drop on you and that happens a lot through the book. Needless to say I was not really impressed with this one and would not purchase for my library.
This review was given on the ARC copy received from the Publisher via Netgalley in return for my honest opinion.
Even if it's well written I couldn't care for the characters and the story fell flat.
Not my cup of tea.
Many thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for this ARC, all opinions are mine.
I am a huge Amanda Ashley fan but I just could not get into this story. It had everything that makes up a good paranormal romance but I just didn’t feel any connections with the characters. The story did have. a very sweet ending that could lead to some interesting sequels but overall this was just an average effort in my opinion.
Quill an ancient Hungarian Vampire one of the last of his kind has been hoping for a human mate through all his long life. He is been hunted by a order of Knights who are protected by magic. A chance meeting with Callie will change both their lives. He takes her blood but cannot erase her memory. Callie may have magic in her family having memories of her Grandma and friends being different. Quill and Callie go on the run when a local Vampire settlement is slaughtered. They must stay one step ahead of the Knights who just appear from nowhere. This is an exciting story of Vampires and other magical beings with Callie learning all that she may become. Two characters who leave you routing for them and the future of their races.
I was given an arc of this book by Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
It had been along time since I had been able to pick up one of this author's books. Having read several of them I was excited to say the lest. Quill is interesting and caught my attention. Having had a Hungarian uncle a double interest. Callie has that night the kind that makes you swoon. The Callie and Quill take us into their story I was reminded of some of the others read. That ancient order better watch out we do not want them to succeed. This has action and romance the kind you as the reader likes to sink your teeth into.
After Quill feed's from Callie and later remembers what happened even though he erased her memory of the event. Quill thinks he has to take drastic measures to make sure she doesn't remember him. Because humans aren't supposed to know about vampires.
Callie shouldn't have been able to remember the vampire feeding from her after he erased her memory but she does and she doesn't realize that she's now in mortal danger because of it.
There are vampire hunter's called Knights after Quill and when they find him and almost kill him, he has no choice but to ask Callie for help so he can heal. Callie isn't sure if he's using some sort of vampire magic on her to make her feel things so intensely for him but he's not. They are great together, Quill might have thought to kill her but as soon as he gets to know her he knows he could never hurt her. They want to have some kind of life together but it's dangerous because of the Knights that are always after his kind of vampire. Because his kind can father children with human females, the Knights see him as an abomination and want to wipe them all out.
Callie hadn't known she was a witch because her grandmother, Ava had never told her. Ava was also a witch and had raised Callie after her parents had died but Ava died some time ago and Callie found out all sorts of things about her grandmother when she started going through some of her belongings. When Callie started doing some of the spells and incantations that she found in her grandmother's things, she found it easier and easier to do more spells. Those spells did help her and Quill when the Knights came back around hunting for Quill.
When they find themselves kidnapped and in real danger, a huge twist is thrown into the story which really changes everything. I loved the twist and how it helped Callie and Quill get themselves out of danger in the long run. This was such a good story. I've read this author's books in the past and I've always liked them and I still do.
Disclosure: I was given and ARC of this book via NetGalley but all thoughts and opinions are my own.
