‘Enchant the Night‘ brings us the story of a Hungarian vampire, born never made and who could mate/have children with human women. Although Quill has lived a very long time he hasn’t found what some would consider a soulmate – until he encounters a woman who keeps the memory of his feeding on her blood despite his best efforts to wipe that fact from her mind. Callie is unique in that she has her own magic, yet dormant, and comes from a line of witches that she had thought was just a silly family rumor. No, Callie is a witch and she’s about to get an education in not only her own history and abilities but that of vampires and vampire hunters as well.
Most of what you’d want to know can be found in the Cover Description. I am torn on ‘Enchant the Night‘ for there were parts that I greatly enjoyed, and others that felt bland or even uncomfortable, and not what I usually find in this author’s work. In order to explain why I feel this way I’d have to give away spoilers – and that I do not willingly do. This is going to be a review where I’ll tell you frankly that you need to make up your own mind about this book. I’m giving it a 3.5-star rating on my blog and will round that up to 4-stars on the places I leave reviews. It’s a good book simply one where I couldn’t connect with the characters and there were factors in the hero’s past that I couldn’t feel comfortable with given that Callie is supposed to be his soulmate. Again, this is my opinion, you should make up your own mind.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher, Kensington Books via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
This review is not going to be long. I am not a huge fan of a review rehashing the entire plot and spoiling it for everyone.
This is the first book by Amanda Ashley that I have read. It was a cute story. It felt like it was missing something. The main characters had no chemistry.
I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley in exchange for a fair review. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Enchant the Night is a bewitching tale of love between an ancient vampire and a newbie witch. This story took unexpected twists and turns that kept me flipping pages.
I received an ARC of this book to read through NetGalley. All opinions are my own. I chose to Enchant the Night by Amanda Ashley because I was in the mood for a dark and dirty romance between a Vampire and a Witch. That is not this book. This is something I’d never really thought existed, a sweet Christian vampire story. The steam level is quite low. The heroine spends a good part of the book worrying about her saving virginity, which she calls her greatest treasure for the right man. The author is telling not showing the story, and to me, it was a bit disjointed and fairly corny. Quill Falconer (a Hungarian Vampire who was born a vampire not made one) bites Callie Hathaway, who doesn’t know she’s a witch. He’s shocked when he can’t erase her memory, so decides he should kill her, but then some of the Knights of the Dark Wood attack him, and Callie saves him, so he spares her life and then realizes he knew her grandmother 100 years ago. I spent most of the books rolling my eyes and groaning at the plot twists unable to suspend disbelief enough to enjoy the book. Steam Level: They do have sex towards the end but it’s a thrust and done. Publishing Date: August 25, 2020. #EnchantThe Night #AmandaAshley #KensingtonBooks #ZebraRomance #bookstagram #VampireRomance #WitchRomance #ParanormalRomance
I’ll start by saying that the premise of this book looked really good and I’ve read and enjoyed Ashley’s books before. But this book just fell flat for me.
It seemed that you only got to know the characters on a surface level and they all did things that just made little to no sense. I felt like I never really knew who they were. Callie remembers being bit by Quill, but it doesn’t really affect her. She learns she’s a witch, but then never really practices unless she can’t think of anything else to do. She loves Quill, but she’s hot and cold all the time. Quill seems the same, for a 600 year old vampire, used to being hunted, he sure gets surprised a lot.
The events in the book also seemed really glossed over. I got in depth info about what pizza was ordered, but actual story changing scenes happened in a couple paragraphs and weren’t detailed.
I was just disappointed in this book overall.
This is my first vampire novel by this author and I have to say she is an artist at the almost Gothic feel she imparted to the story. This book kept me engaged and thoroughly enthralled to the point that I didn't want to put it down
Quill Falconer is a centuries old vampire a Hungarian vampire which means he was born not made This also means that he can mate with a human woman. He feeds on Callie Hathaway she shouldn't remember it at all but she does why is she different to any other female he has fed on through the centuries. Soon he cannot walk away and their connection grows ever stronger but Quill is been hunted and been with him puts Callie in danger can he walk away to keep her safe or will her own bloodline come to the fore to keep them safe.
I like Quill, he's one of the good ones, compassionate, considerate and so patient with Callie. The perception of the Knights differs which makes the life of a vampire peace-less. I like Callie too, she's sweet and really blossoms as she bravely builds trust in him and her magic. Their attraction is magnetic and just meant to be. Few twist and turns adding adventure. Enjoyed reading this engaging story which in the end left me giddy and smiling because their happiness shines through all the dangerous peril they endured. Lot of history of vampire, lineage and the very skilled and determined Knights but I think Callie as well as some readers need that. At this time and stage of my vampire romance depository, I prefer a bit more steam for intensity and less gore.
This is the first novel of Amanda Ashley's that I have ever read. I enjoyed it but feel like maybe it wasn't the best book to jump into the middle of a story. I will need to check out some of her earlier novels to get a feel for them. It was well written and I liked the way the characters interacted. I felt like the characters were careful and respectful of one another and that even though they had deep feelings for one another they took their time getting to know each other.
ENCHANT THE NIGHT is author Amanda Ashley at her finest! She knows how to bring her readers into her vampire world, having them hold on to their seats while enjoying the roller coaster ride before them.

I told myself I'd actually finish this since it's simple and all that but it's so bad I can't force myself through it. Even if I didn't have a huge tbr pile already, I don't think I'd finish this, sadly...
The story seemed interesting so I requested it and was very excited when I received the email saying I got the eARC, but after just a few chapters I noticed it wasn't enjoyable, believable, or good at all. There's sudden point of view changes in the same chapter, a few pages in and they're already horny for each other, the heroine's actions are boring and irrational (she doesn't seem to have a personality, we go through her doing mundane things instead of focusing on the cool supernatural part, and she actually meets a random dude she dreamed about in a park at night???), and the hero isn't cool or attractive at all.
The heroine doesn't react to finding out the hero is an actual vampire, that he literally murdered people, drank her blood without her consent....... she takes him home, helps him heal, and then offers him breakfast when he admits he killed the guys that hurt him. Like, yeah maybe accepting vampires could be easy enough but that's just... way too much. She's supposed to be a normal girl but then her dead witch grandma talks to her, she has magical protection, she acts like that and keeps thinking about making vampires babies with this random vampire dude she met. Alright, I guess.
The insta-lust and insta-love just aren't really my thing and I don't think they were well executed. I can't believe they care for each other - maybe the heroine thinks the vampire is hot or something, but I kept thinking about Twilight during a lot of scenes, like... "how old are you?" "thirty" "how long have you been thirty?" ughhh. Also like, apparently the hero has a ~connection~ with the heroine and feels for her... because he also dated her witch grandma...? Ugh.
So, yeah. I'm disappointed it wasn't anything like it was promised. I'm sorry, but I can't continue this.
thanks to netgalley & publisher for giving me an eARC of this book.
This book had a unique spin on your typical vampire romance. I was certainly surprised with all the places this book took me.
Callie is the seemingly random target of a Hungarian vampire named Quill. After their first meeting (which Quill immediately tries to erase from her mind), it's clear that they are drawn to one another. I admit, it's a little bit of questionable consent in parts, especially since he's got a growing list of powers throughout the book, but if you are able to put that aside, they end up going through a very fast series of couple ups and downs.
The big bad in this story is the knights that hunt vampires. They've got some witch magic on their side, but are generally just determined to wipe out vampires from existence. There's also some side baddies in the form of evil other vampires. Combine this with some rather unusual connections, lots of surprising turns, and an ultimate HEA, and you've got this book in a nutshell. I'm not sure if this was supposed to start a series, but it's not overloaded with side characters as other series starters tend to be. Callie definitely grew on me along the way, but where the story leaves us seems to wrap things up nicely.
Callie and Quill’s story is very good, there is lots of action, mystery and of course romance. I do wish to know why the knights are hunting these vampires. The people in this book are very likable and i hope Vivian gets a story she deserves it after this. I would recommend this book
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for a copy of this eARC
Great story about vampires and witches. After Quill fed on Callie in an alleyway he wiped her memory, or so he thought. Callie had some missing time that she could not understand until she dreamed of a tall dark man biting her neck. With the intention of killing her because he could not wipe her memories Quill could not bring himself to do it. There was something about her and her blood that he was drawn to. Callie was scared to be near Quill but felt that he would not hurt her.
This was so easy to read and the storyline although not blindingly new was one that was interesting enough to want to keep reading it. There was enough action to keep it interesting and not to much romance that it became boring. Really enjoyed it
This story is fairly straight forward. Vampire on the Hunt, catches girl, drinks, wipes her memory and leaves. Except the wiping of the memory thing didn't stick.
She saves him from hunters and falls in love with him while he lays in her guest bed recovering. It's exactly the type of book I go for when I need to escape. It's not deep. It's not mind bending. Of course, there is more to the story. That's a given. Gotta have adventure and a chase.
The heroine is young and the vampire is old. Her experience is nil but yet she pulls all sorts of powers out of her hat. He's not high up in the vampire chain of command, but he takes charge to save everyone.
The ending was easy to see coming, but it still packed a punch. All in all, I give it a 3.5 stars.
I enjoyed this book. Quill and Callie have an unusual connection that complicates matters. The Knights of the Dark Wood are as vile as the names implies. I would love one of their cloaks though. I have to say Ava was a surprise.
This is a very good paranormal romance that weaved a web of love, and suspense that kept me turning the pages until the very end. It's so easy to fall in love with the characters, and the setting was described so well that it seemed like a separate character. I can't wait to read the next book by this author.
I had quite a few things I didn't like about this book. First was the dryness of the story. I also found myself reading it not with a modern day voice but a voice that was from some of the first vampire movies. Another - the triangle of Callie, Quill, and the third party. It got even worse near the end. Story was slow and even the action wasn't enough to pull it out.
Callie is bitten by Quill, who is obviously a vampire. She is a witch, and they are chased by hunters. Overall a good and quick paranormal romance story. The issue with the grandma was a little strange, but otherwise it kept my interest. Would recommend.
Loved it!!! I always love this authors books! I’ve never been disappointed. Characters are well rounded and believable as much as paranormal ever is
This novel is like a vampire quickie...exactly what I was in the mood for when I picked it out. No difficult plot lines to follow, no worry about the two main characters falling in love (in fact, I am pretty sure they were "in love" within a couple of chapters), and tons of action without too much gore. This is perfect paranormal novel for the escapist reader.
