Quill is part of the vampire race that was born, not made. He has roamed the earth for 600 years without finding someone that he has a connection to until he meets Callie. But with knights sworn to destroy all vampires after Quill, will they be able to survive long enough to see if their attraction can turn into more?
The book started off really slow and hard to get into. About 1/3 of the way in it started to pick up and became more interesting. It was an ok book but not one I would recommend to others or would read over again.
This book was given to me an an ARC from the publisher through NetGalley in an exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated in any way.
Thank you netgalley for providing this ARC in exchange for an honest review.
Not impressed by this paranormal romance. Sally is living a normal life when Quill decides to make her a tasty morsel. What he doesn't count on is becoming bewitched by her looks and sweet blood. While I thought the plot had promise, the execution fell flat. Quill spends a lot of time drinking from her but then tells her he won't take her to bed until she falls in love with him. Callie is more afraid of being eaten by the guy. There is barely a sexual connection between them. Yes she's intrigued but she doesn't fight the feeding and barely has real conversations with him. The whole thing just doesn't inspire romance.
Though Quill Falconer is one of the oldest vampires, he has never been on love. That is until he meets Callie. He had only intended to feed on her and then erase her memories. However, her blood tastes familiar, and his memory wipe doesn’t work.
When Callie saves him after a brutal attack by the Knights of the Dark Wood, a group determined to hunt and kill all vampires, and takes him to her home, they can’t deny their connection.
As Callie and Quill grow closer and learn each other’s secrets, they must also prepare for the constant threat of the Knights and their relentless pursuit of Quill. This threat takes them to various places across the country until they wage an epic battle that will determine their future. Can they defeat the knights and resolve their conflicts before it’s too late?
Callie has one major hangup, and it’s not that Quill is a vampire. Decades ago, Quill had a relationship with Callie’s grandmother. Callie struggles with this news and the revelation effects their romance. Callie doesn’t know if she can get past this information. I did not like this aspect of the story. It seemed like an unnecessary obstacle that this couple had to face, and it’s a bit…odd.
I also felt like Callie was a bit immature. The dismissive way that treated her traumatized friend and the superficial inner conflicts that she felt did not appeal to me. She also is passive and lets Quill run their lives even though she is powerful in her own right.
Additionally, the romance between Callie and Quill progressed slowly, and I had hoped that the story would delve further into the history of the vampires and the Knights of the Dark Wood. This seemed like a missed opportunity to develop the plot and characters.
Though this story has an interesting premise, it was just not the book for me, as I didn’t connect with the characters or the plot. Thanks to Netgalley and Kensington Books for a copy of the story in exchange for my honest review.
This book is all about a different kind of vampire - Hungarian to be exact. They can eat, drink wine, have babies etc just like any normal human being. Quill Falconer happens to be that type of a vampire and is supposed to be one of the oldest and a powerful one at that.. As with any vampire story, you have the vampire hunters and in this case you have the Knights of Dark Wood, who are able to hunt for vampires via a medallion and a cloak of invisibility. Finally you have Callie Hathaway, granddaughter of a powerful witch and unbeknownst to her, happens to also be a witch.
Things start to get weird after a couple of chapters when Quill finds out that Callie is the grand daughter of Ava, a witch he had a one night stand with a hundred years ago.. How does he find out? By drinking Callie's blood that made him think there's something familiar about it.. hmmm.. okay... Then for someone who is suppose to be powerful, Quill sure gets injured a lot and is often overpowered by the Knights! Then we have stubborn Callie who was warned by Quill not to inform her friend about him and what does she do? Of course she goes to said friend and blabs about him right? Then we have this scene wherein the Knights murder a couple of vampires in this small town all because of Callie and does she show remorse or even guilt? Nope. I mean seriously? You are responsible for the deaths of a couple of vampires ( ok so lets say she did it because she had to save her friend) but c'mon lady!! show some guilt!
So yeah, what started our as a book with promise fell kind of flat for me.. Ms. Ashley is one of my all time authors but unfortunately, this book wasn't my cup of tea.

I had high hopes for this book - the cover description looked so interesting!
It was just so boring, unfortunately. The characters were so dull and wishy-washy. The first 50% was of the female MC showering, going out for a movie, going out for dinner, or having a chat with her best friend. It was extremely repetitive and boring. Then the action started, but by then they had lost me.
Callie is an ordinary woman, just trying to go on with her life after her grandmother passes away. When one night she goes out and when she wakes the next morning, she can’t remember how she got home, her head is in a fog. Quill is a Hungarian vampire, who is very old and powerful. He is attracted to Callie and his memory erase doesn’t work on her. While they are getting to know each other, a band of Knights want him killed. They are a secret group that protects humanity from vampires. With Quill being hunted, can he and Callie find their happily ever after?
The beginning was fast but towards the end, I was like just hurry up and end. Not really any sexual situations and a little bit of fighting.
* Voluntarily read and reviewed this for NetGalley *
I skimmed most of the book because it was pretty terrible. There was no chemistry between the characters, they fell in love too quickly and for no decernable reason. Once upon a time he slept with her grandmother. Yuck. The characters didn’t act like people who live in 2020. The heroine was dumb and made terrible choices and had zero personality.
Um....SWOON ALERT. I have been on SUCH a vampire kick now that we're officially in the #TwilightRenaissance and while this book doesn't share much DNA with that series, this one gave me everything I wanted and more! Sexy, beautiful, and pulse-pounding, Enchant the Night is a total dream for every paranormal romance lover out there! 5 Enthusiastic stars!
