Christian Lauren knows how to write heart-warming romance stories. And In a Holidaze has the same feel.
In a Holidaze is a bit different than how Christina Lauren writes their stories. But I am always game to read a different type of same. Some styles are mostly the same for romance stories that it's a bit tiring so I was looking forward to reading In a Holidaze.
Time-changing through the holiday is a different way to read because there are some many changes that happen in the story that it gets a bit repetitive especially with Maelyn's case. Maelyn never expects to repeat her Christmas so many times but she does know that she won't get it right until she completely feels satisfied with her life. There are many changes she wants but all she knows is that she only wants to be with her true love. It may take a few tries but nothing is ever perfect until you keep on trying. Lucky for Maelyn will discover her true love and along the way she will discover her true self.
I love Christina Lauren books and I was so excited to hear they were releasing a holiday book because I feel like the genre and the writers are a match made in heaven and this book was definitely delightful. Is it my favorite CL book? No. I don't think that anything will ever top The Unhooneymooners for me, but this one was really sweet. This book also left me totally wanting to start holiday traditions and buy a cabin to share with loved ones and friends during the Christmas season! The aspect of "Groundhog Day" wasn't as prevalent as I wanted it to be and its why this gets docked a star. The entire book was focused around Maelyn reliving the same week (with different outcomes), though halfway through the story, "Groundshog's Day" stopped and it was focused more on the friends to lovers plot which was definitely full of sugar and spice.
This is a quick read - I read it in one day and would absolutely recommend to others looking for a fun and breezy holiday read. Thanks to Gallery Books for my gifted copy!
It seems that everyone is reading this book in December and for good reason too. It is a fun, rom-com that takes place over the Christmas holiday. I love this writing duo and their works are so easy to get absorbed into and read. This is no exception.
Mae is a sweet, relatable character who is given the opportunity to repeat specific days until she gets it right. There is humor and romance and such likeable characters in this novel that I recommend you pick this up as a lighthearted holiday read.

👍🏼 Thumbs Up:
Cute premise, I enjoyed the characters and setting it truly is a fun holiday read! This is basically Groundhog Day in Christmas book version.
•
👎🏻 Thumbs Down:
The main character has some angsty/cheesy moments I didn’t love. The time travel aspect of the story was never really cleared up for me at the end? (Dm me if you have thoughts on this)
•
🤓 For Readers WHO:
Enjoy Christina Lauren
Are okay with a lil steam
Like a holiday romances!
•
👉🏼 This is what’s WHAT:
After finding out that the winter cabin where her family and friends that are family spend Christmas every year is being sold (and after a eggnog induced bad decision), Maelyn makes a wish that send her time traveling back to relive Christmas again - this time until she can get it right and find love with the right person.
•
⏳WHEN I read this book:
It made me wish for a wintry cabin getaway!
•
🚨WHERE you should watch out:
While this book isn’t as steamy as some of this author’s previous works, it’s still there! I’d call this: descriptive lead up to some closed door sex scenes.
•
📍WHY you should read this one:
If you’re looking for a holiday romance this would be a fun one to try out!

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for the chance to read this book. I didn't get around to reading it before publication, but I'm actually glad I didn't. This was such a fun book to read in December. I loved it! The plot isn't anything super unique. It's basically a rom com Christmasy "Groundhogs Day." The setting, characters, and love story are all just right.
I went into this really excited for the premise of a holiday groundhog day novel. I was not disappointed but left wanting more. I wish the time loop aspect was explored a bit more and maybe also explained to some degree. I also wished the love interst was a little less perfect and more fleshed out. Their relationship drama felt a little contrived for the sake of a third act breakup and I wish the other brother wasn't as much of a frat boy characature to make the tnesion between the three more compelling. But overall a really cute story that was a great way to start December.
In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren is my second book by this writing duo and it certainly will not be my last. I absolutely enjoyed this book that celebrated a huge group of super-duper longtime friends that spend a week together each year over Christmas at a Park City, Utah cabin. The story is pretty fast-paced, even though it is a bit Groundhog Day-ish, and has a storyline that makes you want to not put the book down because you want to see what will happen next and if the story would "start over" (unlike Groundhog Day, the redos are not predictable). The book centers on Maelyn Jones celebrating the holidays with her family. Amongst the friends are two brothers, one (Andrew) of which Maelyn has had a massive crush on for thirteen years. Unfortunately, after a tipsy evening of games, Maelyn and the other brother (Theo) hook up. This hook up ends up tipping a chain of events with Maelyn on a quest to find what will make her happy. I thought the two main characters of the story had amazing chemistry and them going from childhood friends to more was believable and quite an adventure.
I’ve had this book on my TBR for a few months and just had to wait until the weather turned chilly enough to feel the atmosphere as I read. I was not disappointed.
The story is centered around the protagonist and narrator, Mae, whose grown up spending the Christmas holiday with the same group of families her entire life. She is now 26 and some things in her life need shaking up. This couldn’t be more true than after this Christmas when she has embarrassingly made out with one of the boys who she has grown up with but she has been in love with his brother, and the family who owns the cabin they all gather at has announced that they are planning to sell it, and then her family is driving to the airport when they are in a car crash. To her surprise, she becomes stuck in the same week repeatedly in order to figure out what would make her happy.
This is a sweet story about family, friends, love and trust.
I highly recommend this for anyone who loves a sweet romantic story but especially if you want the holiday atmosphere.

CL can do no wrong! This was a delight — full of cozy vibes, nostalgia, and all the cheesy (yet steamy) goodness I was looking for. The arguments justifying Hershey candy cane kisses was well received as they are my controversial favorite holiday treat.
I’ve been saving reading this book for closer to Christmas time and I’m glad I did. I’m not one for hallmark movies and was afraid this would seem like one, but it was written in true Christina Lauren form and I loved it!
There hasn’t been a Christina Lauren book I haven’t enjoyed. This one was so festive and the romance was just so swoon worthy. I loved the friends to lovers aspect and the added element of time travel was fun as well.
A perfect holiday romance to read this season!
I really wanted to like this book as Christina Lauren has written some of my favorite books but sadly this one just didn't work for. This is the story of Mae (who had so many nicknames that at times I couldn't keep them all straight!) who after spending the week with her family and friends at their annual Holiday vacation gets into an accident and starts a Groundhog Day time loop. She restarts the week over until she gets things right. I found myself bored at times and not wanting to pick the book because I was tired of reading the same story over. There was also a romance in this book that I just never felt any connection with and it felt a little forced to me. I think that this book just came at a time when I needed something else and this one just didn't deliver.
This is THE book of the holiday season.
In a Holidaze is a Hallmark/Groundhog Day crossover and it was everything I wanted this year. It is a fantastic book with an amazing cast of characters, lots of twists and turns, complications, family dynamics, and a satisfying conclusion. I need this to be a movie ASAP.
I don’t know what to make of this story. Fantasy? Paranormal? This frustrates me to the extent I couldn’t enjoy it. That’s a first for me from these authors. I love their books, not this one.Sorry.
I loved this! It was so different from Christina Lauren’s other work and I found it really fun and refreshing to read this holiday season. They never disappoint!
Mae is stuck in a Groundhog's Day-style conundrum -- she's reliving the week of Christmas until she can "right" the wrongs she keeps making and discover what would make her truly happy in her life. Who wouldn't want a do-over after making a few bad decisions??? The problem is, she keeps making them and can't seem to figure out how to make the universe, and herself, happy enough to stay in the present. Living a status-quo life that isn't necessarily unhappy but definitely isn't all she dreamed of, Mae needs to let go of everything that makes her comfortable and go for what she really wants -- even if that means breaking from tradition, risking friendships, and creating a different definition of "family".
Thoughts: This was just a delightful book! It gave me Groundhog's Day-meets-While You Were Sleeping vibes, and I was totally here for it! I thoroughly enjoyed the dynamic between all of the characters, and this family of friends and their children was heartwarming. The main female character, Mae, wasn't an incredibly dynamic character though. Her long-time crush-slash-practically brother, Andrew, seems a bit more "layered" than her, but that's perhaps because the authors spend more time describing him through Mae's eyes/voice than describing Mae. This doesn't detract from the story as a whole, though, and doesn't make Mae unlikeable or anything - it actually seems natural because the story is told through Mae's POV. Overall, it was a really cute story and I thought the authors did a great job of showing how traditions can change and how to choose the best path for your own happiness, especially for readers in their early-mid 20's who are still figuring out their path in life. There were also a lot of LOL moments that were perfectly placed to keep the plot light. I also thought Mae and Andrew were adorable together, and the dynamic between the two families gave me the quintessential Christmas feels. This could easily be a Hallmark Channel Christmas movie!
This book was exactly what I expected it to be: an adorable Christmas romcom with a dash of magic thrown in! Mae and Andrew’s friends to lovers romance was so sweet, especially the two grand gestures at the end. I really enjoyed Mae’s sort of “found family” and their fun/creative holiday traditions.. Definitely the perfect romance to read that will make you feel warm and fuzzy with holiday cheer!
**Thank you NetGalley and the publisher for providing an e-arc in exchange for an honest review!**
This was a fun holiday read! Think Groundhog Day meets The Family Stone! This was a funny, heartwarming, feel-good story that made me smile.
Maelyn Jones is stuck in a rut- her parents are divorced, she moved back into her childhood home, she hates her job, and her love life is a mess. The one thing she is looking forward to is spending Christmas at the cabin in Utah that belongs to family friends. The families gather there every year, even her divorced parents, AND her longtime crush Andrew. I don't want to spoil anything, but let's say that after doing something she regrets, Maelyn starts reliving the Christmas break over and over- enter the Groundhog Day theme. I will say, I wasn't sure about this at first- I feel this scenario has been done over and over in books and movies. However, once I was about halfway in, I really started to enjoy this book. It was heartfelt and a fun Christmas story. Romances usually aren't my favorite, but Christina Lauren's are always an exception for me! Definitely would recommend this one.
Mae just wants to have a normal holiday, but when she wakes up the day after making out with a long-time friend of the family, she's certain that she's ruined everything. Especially when she's secretly in love with his older brother, Andrew. So when she's leaving the cabin, possibly for the last time, she makes a wish and sees in come true Groundog's Day-style.
This is a classic rom-com from Christina Lauren. It has all the elements that you would expect: drama, intrigue, hilarity, and a happy ending. Not only does it have all that, it is also set during the holiday season, so it's the right book to pick up right now when you have a few hours free between online shopping and cookie baking.
This was a perfect holiday read. I have decided that there are now two types of holiday movies, Netflix style and Hallmark style. This was definitely Netflix style. It felt very timely, very cozy and very predictable at the same time (but aren't all holiday movies?)
The MC and her family, plus family friends always go to the same cabin for the holidays. She grew up with a set of brothers. She has been secretly in love with one of the brothers, but has never said anything.
In true holiday movie fashion, it turns into a modern day Groundhog story. She gets stuck in a loop and is reliving the few days before Christmas. She needs to figure out what the universe wants her to do.
I really enjoyed the story, it had the warm holiday vibes, romance and full on corniness that I love during the holiday season. Yes, it was fairly predictable, but I am fine with it.
I thought the characters were flushed out well and the book had an overall good message. I haven't read a ton of Christina Lauren books, but there was just a small amount of "smut" without feeling like it went overboard.
I could totally see reading this one again next holiday season.
