In a Holidaze was a fun Christmas read. If you are looking for a quick escape this holiday season grab this one. At first I was a little worried with the whole "Groundhog's Day" plot line as I find those books a little slow and predictable, but this one was done great, and I loved the added twists to the plot.
Maelyn is stuck in a job that she doesn't love, still living with her parents, and has just made a horrible mistake in her romantic life. She feels like her life isn't going anywhere and asks the universe, "What will make her happy", not even twenty minutes later, Maelyn is in a car crash with her parents and brother and wakes up in the airport ready to redo the week, whether she wants to or not. At first she is confused and can't figure out what she is doing reliving this Christmas week, but soon she thinks she figures it out and is going to fight for what makes her happy. Even if doing so causes some ripples a long the way.
Make sure you grab this one and had a little fun romcom into your life this Christmas!
I was so excited to be given this advanced copy to read and review. This is the second book I’ve read by Christina Lauren, both of which I throughly enjoyed. I waited to read it during the holidays because to me it’ helps get me in the mood.
Mae, the main character experiences the week before Christmas like Groundhog’s Day because she told the universe to show her what will make her happy.. she had to learn to put herself out there for love, her job, end her family. Reading how she opened herself up more and more each time she experienced the holidays you were cheering for her.
It was the perfect book to read for the holidays, it was funny, warm, and romantic.
I was given a copy of this book by the publisher and Netgalley.
Idon’t usually read romances, but I received this as an advanced reader copy from Netgalley. The cover was cute, and the premise intrigued. Basically, it is a Christmas version of Groundhog Day with Bill Murray. Mae makes out with the brother that she hasn’t had a crush on for over a decade, and that is just the start of her bad week. So when she starts reliving the week over and over, she tries to figure out how to fix EVERYTHING.
A fast, super cute romance. I definitely recommend for the holidays!
I'm always up for a holiday read. And I'm a fan of Christina Lauren. But this book was only meh for me. I was truly confused in the first chapter and had to reread but it did improve from there. It just felt too light....even for a Christmas book.
3.5 stars – thanks to Netgalley for the e-galley to read and review! Like a fun, kinda-cheesy Lifetime movie, this hit so many cheerful holiday marks. I think I just have to accept that I’m not a huge fan of how Christina Lauren writes characters, because that was my least favorite part of this novel (everyone is kind of... bland, their character flaws aren’t really flaws, I’ve been spoiled during my short tenure of reading romance novels to read a few with some KILLER characters and this wasn’t it). But other than that, if you’re looking to escape into a fun holiday romp with a Groundhog Day vibe, put this one on your list!
If you're looking for something to give you all the Christmas-y feels, with a splash of chick-lit... then look no further than In a Holidaze!
As the book opens we meet Maelyn as she is tearfully wrapping up her yearly Christmas holiday retreat with her mother/father and beloved extended family (long time family friends). Unfortunately she is immediately faced with two problems... After the last 20 years in the same wonderful Utah cabin, this is the last time they will be together in such a setting. It has just been announced that the cabin is being sold. The other problem involves the fact that Mae (in an alcohol induced accident) has made out with one of her lifelong friends (whose brother she is madly in love with).
As she ponders these issues, and her anxiety level quickly rises, she is struck by a car that runs a red light. Cut scene to her airplane arrival that actually took place 6 days before. She is forces to live the entire holiday over and over in an attempt in fine what will make her happy and right her wrongs. In doing so she will find the second/third/etc holday part tragic, part tearful, and some parts steamy!
This is a warm and fuzzy kind of book to read near the holidays if you are trying to catch all the feels. And its perfect blend of Groundhogs Day + Love Actually will leave you with a smile!
This was a cute ground-hog day like story. I read it one sitting and enjoyed the relationships and traditions within the story. It's a great, light holiday read and would recommend this to folks, who are looking for a friends-to-lovers story.
This is the type of book you can take to an awkward family holiday gathering, find a quiet corner, and read all day and find you’ve actually enjoyEd yourself! I mean, we can’t do awkward family holiday gatherings this year, but if we could, that’s where I’d read this. This year, FaceTime your family for 10 minutes, eat your take out and read this book. It’ll be the best Holiday ever. I promise.
I'm a longtime Christina Lauren fan, but their last few new releases haven't worked for me. I was a little apprehensive going into In a Holidaze and I was shocked by how much I loved it! This was the perfect delightful little Christmas romance with some magical realism elements.
If you love movies like Groundhog Day and The Family Stone this is a must try. Swoon-worthy romance, combined with a fun plot and engaging characters. I loved every bit of time I spent with Maelyn and her friends and family! 4 stars!
Awww this book got me. I was unsure about the ‘groundhog day’ reliving but I absolutely loved it.
I loved how over time the female mc started letting go of the control and became a better version of herself all while finding love.
Also Mandrew ❤️❤️ I loved how the authors wrote their first moments - had me cackling.
I am kicking off a season of feel good reading with this romance from the writing duo Christina Lauren.
Full disclosure, I am not a big reader of romance. But if I'm in the mood for this genre, I can't miss with a title by these authors. I love them for the humor, the witty, snarky dialogue and the contemporary take on relationships.
In A Holidaze was just what I needed to kick off the holiday season - I purposely waited until after Halloween to dive into this one.
The Groundhog Day premise has been used frequently, but I enjoyed it nevertheless. Maelyn is returning from the annual 'family' holiday at a Utah cabin, processing distressing news about next year's holiday and wishes desperately to know what will make her happy. A simple plea to the Universe seems to boomerang her right back to the beginning of the holiday...with a chance to do things a bit differently.
One of my favorite themes is the 'found' family. I can't get enough of people forming their own family, joined by love, loyalty and friendship, if not by blood. I enjoyed the dynamics between this cast of characters as much as the romance.
Christina Lauren successfully combines a love for the traditional while remaining open to new holiday possibilities.
Many thanks to NetGally, Gallery Books and Christina Lauren for the complimentary e-book in exchange for my honest opinion.
This book was a lot of fun! It gave me strong Palm Springs vibes (anyone else seen this fantastic Hulu movie this year??!) with the raunchy yet romantic time loop story. Very specific vibes, in fact.
I was worried the time loop element would be weird or get old. Thankfully they do it enough times towards the beginning that we sense why it really is a conflict for Maelyn but by the fourth or time through, we're in the story for a long haul as we watch her and Andrew's relationship develop. I'm not always for friends-to-lovers stories, but this one was strong, and really fun to see it play out in the context of family friends, especially around the holidays.
A good holiday read can be kind of hard to pull off but I thought this one did it! The romance didn't make my heart flutter too much, I thought the chemistry was kind of meh, but there were lol moments and a lot of great family banter.
This is such a cute Christmas season spin on Groundhogs Day! I inhaled this book and have recommended it to so many!

In a Holidaze, is a Christmas "Groundhogs Day" story. Maelyn Jones is with her family and friends enjoying their holiday tradition of getting together at a their friend's house. Unfortunately, the holiday celebration isn't as happy as Mae expected when she made a mistake and kissed the brother of her secret crush. Add to that, she finds out that this tradition is coming to an end as he house is up for sale. Finally, on her way home Mae is in an accident that causes the repeat of events until she gets it right.
I'm a fan of Christina Lauren's writing. She holds my attention with the story-line, and makes me cheer for the characters to find their HEA. I love a good holiday rom-com. Around this time of year, I revisit my favorites. In fact, I enjoy reading more than watching holiday shows. In a Holidaze will be on my list for future re-reads.
I'm grateful to Netgalley for the opportunity to read this book.
I love Christina Lauren, and this book was super cute, but it left me wanting a little more. It's an easy, quick read and I loved the blended family and cozy atmosphere of it. I feel like Mae's questioning of her reality just kind of tapered off and I wanted to know more about it.
The book has a very warm, Hallmarky feel to it though, and it's a great light read for the holidays.
I started this book last night when I went to bed and I stayed up until 3am to read it straight through. Ho, Ho, H(oops)! But omgosh, what an absolutely DELIGHTFUL book to kick off some holiday romance reading. I just feel so…warm and fuzzy and happy. And Christmassy. I so desperately needed this.
In a Holidaze is Christmas Cabin in the Mountains meets the movie Groundhog Day meets chance after chance to choose love and life. It’s classic CLo humor fused with magical holiday feelings.
If I haven’t started putting up our Christmas decor by end of the day it will be a preholiday miracle.
Thank you Gallery Books and Netgalley for opportunity to read an advanced copy of this book. I voluntarily read and reviewed this book and all thoughts and opinions are my own.
🎄Review: In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren 🎄
My favorite romance author duo is back with a perfect holiday read! CLo have done it again, perfectly capturing heartwarming, heart-stopping feelings wrapped in Christmas cheer. Maelyn Jones is finally getting a reprieve from her stagnant life with the holiday vacation she’s looked forward to every year for her whole life. The family filled cabin holiday packed with tradition and festivity is everything she needs... until it ends in disaster. Not only did she kiss the wrong person, the cabin that holds her most sacred family memories is being sold. In a desperate moment on her way to the airport, Mae asks the universe to show her what will maker her happy. In the next moment, her car is crashing and she wakes up on an airplane. Only, it’s the same plane she was already on a few days ago. Maelyn is now living the same holiday over again, and again with one goal: fix her mistakes and get what she’s always wanted. Maybe this is the universe giving her a second chance, but you know what they say: be careful what you wish for.
I devoured this book, as I have every other CLo novel I have read and loved. I went into this book without knowing about the Groundhog Day aspect but ended up really enjoying the storyline anyways. I especially enjoyed the chosen family dynamics and festive feelings the book inspired. All of the characters were distinct personality wise, and really added to the stories overall entertainment. CLo always manage to write stories that I don’t want to put down. My only issues with the book were what I felt was a slower start and the initial story turned me off of Andrew as a love interest, however as the story progressed I did end up liking him a lot more. Honestly, I just tend to fall less for the “too perfect” boys in the story, as I enjoy more flawed characters.
In the end I really enjoyed this! I think it’s hard for these types of stories not to get too repetitive and I don’t feel that way here. It truly is the perfect holiday pick me up I think we could all use this year. I went into this book wanting to have fun and feel entertained by a cute romance and it accomplished just that! Plus, the ending was just so heartwarming and sweet, I had no choice but to close the book smiling.

In a Holidaze
This book was a little difficult for me to get into at first. I didn’t love the Groundhog Day aspect. For me, it made the book more difficult to enjoy and without it this probably would have been much highly rated for me. Once I got past that it was the perfect holiday read! I can see it as the perfect Christmas romance. For all the Hallmark movie fans, this is probably perfect for you! I loved the family aspect in this story and the feel or tradition.
I have been trying to read and finish this book for the past three weeks. I'm just going DNF and move on. I haven't really enjoyed Christina Lauren's newest books but thought a Christmas romance would get me out of my funk. However, The romance had no chemistry and I didn't even really understand the dynamic behind meeting at Christmas every year. While this didn't wow me, I'm sure others will love it.
This was one of my most anticipated reads this year and it was a total miss for me. The "groundhog day" trope is just not something that I can get around, and I ended up not finishing the book. I love this author and will possibly give this book another chance at a different time, but as of now, it is listed as a DNF for me.
