This is exactly the kind of book I want to read in December. Cozy, funny and a little magical. Christina Lauren is (are? - what’s the correct grammar for two authors one name?) one of my must read authors and this one is no exception. It would be best read with a blanket and hot cocoa in front of a fire. Put this on your December TBR!
Maelyn Jones will spend Christmas in a Utah cabin. But getting there is the fun part...Part groundhog day, with tons of funny scenarios, you will not want to put this one down!
In a Holidaze was my first Christmas story of the season and my first read by the duo of Christina Lauren. I loved this fun romance with characters who had true chemistry. It was a quick read for those that loved Beach Read and The Tourist Attraction I think you'd really love this sweet romance. I loved how the characters built their relationship and how the characters developed. A great fun sweet read. Thank you to Netgalley and Gallery Books for my advanced copy. All opinions are my own.
I loved the thought of getting to relive Christmas in your favorite place over and over again until you get things just right. In a Holidaze is a little bit Groundhog Day and a little Hallmark Perfect Christmas vibe. It isn’t all perfect though and Mae finds she needs to act like every day is important. No more putting things off. She is part of a friends and family group who meet at a mountain cabin in Utah every year. There are her parent’s college pals and now their children who range in ages from five to late twenties. They do yearly events like sledding and snow-creature making and even though they aren’t all related, it’s like family. Mae who has always hung out with two brothers, one her age and one older, makes a decision about which one she likes, and then as she travels in time back and forth continually refines how the relationship can come together. Love this one!
I received this book through Net Galley and have left an honest review.
3.5 stars = Good+
I enjoyed the characters in this one, especially Mae and Andrew. The Christmas cabin setting was fun, too. The Groundhog Day plot hit hard and fast at the beginning, but then it disappeared other than Mae's anxiety that she was going to get whisked away to start over. It felt uneven to have 3 restarts fairly early on and then nothing. I did enjoy how Mae leaned into living the life she truly wanted to regardless of expectations - living the dream of speaking her truth, quitting the job that didn't become what was promised, etc. It's a fun Christmas story with several laughs, and I enjoyed it. (Language, sex, LGBTQ+, references to tarot readings)
In a Holidaze is another funny and cute read by the dynamic duo. It's a lighthearted read about families, friends and traditions. All these characters have chemistry and a little bit of a Groundhound Day feeling. If you are a fan of wishing for happiness and making things right in life, this book is for you. Mae Jones just wants to make her own life happy with the one boy she's love afar and keeping her close family together.
In a Holidaze gets you in the mood for a warm fire, hot cup of tea and some romantic holiday reads!
Lifetime Christmas movie made a baby with Groundhog day. That's how I felt reading this book. Normally i'm not a Groundhog book type of gal as I typically get tired of the same day repeating but this did a good job of jumping around to different parts of the day/week that it didn't feel monotonous. I'm not normally a romance reader but I've found the Christina Lauren books a great exception to the rule and this one isn't any different. Perfect heart warming, drink with some hot chocolate and get the warm fuzzies while ignoring the all the crazy in the current world. I loved the writing, the characters, all the little moments and laughs through out. This blended family stole my heart. I adored this one. The perfect winter book.

Maelyn Jones is going through a lot. First, eggnog induced, she winds up making out with her childhood best friend, but he's not the brother she wanted to be hooking up with. Second, the family cabin her family and her parents' best friends family have been visiting every holiday since she was a child is going to be sold. No more fantastic group family and friends Christmas' together. No more holidays with her secret crush. Mae is distraught as her family pulls away from the cabin for the last time....or is it the last time?
In this fun holiday romance, Maelyn Jones goes through a little magic, a la Groundhog Day, to find out what's most important in her life and how she can use her voice to love life to the fullest. A quick and run read just in time to get you in the holiday spirit.

😂 All the feels that come with family and friends
☃️ The fun and laughter of the holidays and making merry 🎄
💔 The angst of unsaid words, small regrets, and unrequited feelings
🤟 Finally, that feeling of celebration that comes when you get it right (after multiple retries ... hello groundhog day theme)
🎉 Go groundhog day
This was more of a light snowfall read in the beginning - Not enough for me to want to light a roaring fire but still enough to entice me to grab a blanket and some cocoa (metaphorically because it is currently 98 degrees here). As it progressed though, about the third awakening - I was settled in front of the fire and cheering for Mae. Mae had a lot of past "stuff those feelings away" luggage that she needed to dispense with. Always the one to try and keep the peace over the years she forgot to take care of her. Seems like the holiday fairies decided it was time for Mae to have her own HEA. But first, she had some things that needed sorting -
Out with the old in with New and all
An enjoyable light-hearted read that is a bit beyond reality and solidly in
Perfect rainy day romance

A Christmas romance set in a snowy cabin, sign me up. We follow Maelyn Jones during Christmas week as the cabin her family and friends stay at every year and spend time doing all the Christmas traditions together. At the end of the week, something unexpected happens and romance ensues. I don’t want to share too much of the synopsis here but it’s a fun one.
In a Holidaze was so cozy and perfect. There is a chosen family aspect and a lovely sense of community that is like a warm hug and this book abounds in likeable characters.
Overall, I loved the romance, it was so satisfying and sweet. I got all the butterflies and swoon-y feelings while reading this. This is a quality Christmas romance and highly recommend for the holidays or any time of year.
Wow! I often find holiday books a bit too much like a Hallmark movie, but not this one! I absolutely loved this heartwarming plot as well as enjoyed the smiles it produced. I cannot wait to tell my book club I have our December title.
"Universe, I’d asked. What am I doing with my life? Please. Can you show me what will make me happy?"
I loved this Christmas romance. It was just right as a feel-good book for my mood right now. 2020 just about has kicked my butt. This book helped.
It definitely has the vibes of GROUNDHOG DAY, the 1993 movie. But rather than a male lead (like Bill Murray was in the movie) we have 26 year-old Maelyn "Mae" Jones. Her parents and a group of their college friends have been going to a cabin in snowy Lake City, Utah more years than Mae has been alive.
She has had a huge crush on Andrew, one of the owner's sons, since she was 13 years old - and what does she do? Drunkenly makes out with his brother.
After she wishes to be shown what will make her happy, she ends up on a loop being shown different outcomes if she behaves differently.
I mean, who among us wouldn't like to redo bad moments in their lives?
I highly recommend this holiday romance. It was lots of fun.
I received this book from Gallery Books through Net Galley in the hopes that I would read and review it.
In a Holidaze is a holiday rom com that gives you a bit of deja vu. The premise is similar to the movie Groundhog Day, where our main character is fated to repeat events until they get it right. It's not really time travel as much as it is repeating a short period of time. This is a low-angst, fun, entertaining read.
Mae, our female lead, is thoroughly likeable. She's funny, self-deprecating, and has a kind of Bridget Jones personality where she is funny, vulnerable, and sometimes screws up the most important moments. Andrew, the male lead, is a little more perfect, but as the book goes on and the situations repeat, you learn that he's not truly perfect, he's human, relatable and loveable. Together, Mae and Andrew are a great pair.
The situations that they find themselves in are funny and entertaining, the cast of surrounding characters is endearing, and all in all, this is a fun, cozy Christmas romcom. There is a much lower heat level than other Christina Lauren novels, so if you're looking for extra spicy, you won't find it here. This one is just pure holiday-movie-material.
I was really loving In a Holidaze until the bleak moment hit and I was like, "um, for real? Over this?" And it just kind of plummeted my enjoyment a bit. Then the epilogue brought it back so I landed on three stars.
Essentially, this book is about 26 year old Maelyn, who has kind of just been letting life happen to her. She's working a job she really doesn't like, she's had a crush on the same man since she was 13, and last night she let her childhood friend (and her crush's brother) kiss her and now things are awkward. She makes a wish on her way to the airport that the universe would show her what makes her happy and then there's a crash and suddenly she's reliving her vacation all over again.
I liked a lot of aspects about this story. Namely, I was, as usual, totally here for Maelyn figuring out her way forward. There's just something I love about a character who has allowed herself to get stuck, getting dramatically unstuck and into new and difficult situations. I thought her love interest was perfectly fine. I even liked him most of the time, right up until he had the biggest overreaction and I was like, "?????" Yeah, that bleak moment, y'all. It just kind of ruined this book a bit for me.
But, like I said, the epilogue brought it back around for me, so I think YMMV on this one and I'm not even totally sure how to give you guidance on whether or not you should pick it up. The bleak moment isn't even really a miscommunication. It's just... dumb? I don't know. Anyway, if you like Christina Lauren, I would certainly encourage you to give this one a shot.
Thanks so much to Netgalley and Gallery Books for the opportunity to read and review this book early!
Oh my lanta this was so much fun! As my first genre specific holiday read, I am so not disappointed!
Sold as Groundhogs Day meets The Family Stone, I knew I just had to read it and it was everything I could’ve wanted! The chosen family dynamic, fun traditions, and a cabin atmosphere that had me longing for the wilderness, I may as well have been transported to Utah myself! I wish we could’ve gotten more in depth with the backgrounds of some of the characters, but I absolutely adored Andrew and Benny was the uncle I wish I had and the dynamics of the entire family as a whole reminded me so much of my own that it has me excited for the holidays!
The main reason it’s not a full 5 stars for me is that as the reader, essentially an outsider to the family, by the end there were a couple things didn’t feel as resolved as they could’ve been but they were moved passed in a way only families who have known each other for decades could accomplish — with love and understanding, no in depth explanations needed. It was both heartwarming because it was relatable and underwhelming because it felt like they could’ve used a smidge more explanation.
I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect because of it being my first full holiday read, but I absolutely adored it and now desperately want to watch both Groundhogs Day and The Family Stone and reread this again when I’m done! Definitely in my top faves by Christina Lauren!
At first I was a little nervous about the Groundhog’s Day aspect of it, but then quickly realized one must never doubt Christina Lauren. What an adorable book! It’s pretty far from the raunchy plot lines of the Wild Seasons or Beautiful Bastard series, but just as emotional and addictive!
The Dynamic Duo that is Christina Lauren has done again, expect this time they wrapped it up in reindeer paper and put a shiny bow on it! I truly adored In a Holidaze and I'm already looking forward to reading it again. I had not seen the comparison of the book to the movie 'The Family Stone' until I came back to write my review, and I have to say that I 100% can see that... it is one of favorite movies of all time!
Overall it was just so sweet and gave me a warm and fuzzy feeling on the inside! There was a perfect amount amount of buildup and flow throughout the whole book and I could not get through it fast enough to see what was going to happen! I also felt a good bit of anticipation and nervousness too as I kept waiting to see if she was going to sent back to the airplane for another do-over! While Mae is at this crossroads in her life, I felt that her fumbles along the way to seeing what will truly make her happy her were very genuine. It felt like there were some deeper lessons in there too to get you thinking about your actions and what could have been. Like I said, I'm already wanting to read this again!
I am a long time Christina Lauren fan, and I will say this one is not as steamy as you might expect from them. But still it was just right for the book! The love triangle was not overdone or weird for me I like I often find them to be. And the chemistry and relationship development between Mae and Andrew was dreamy and the stuff that Hallmark movies are made of!
I totally adored all the traditions between theses friends that are family. I loved every single one of the players in this story! Some people may have found this chaotic, but it think it made the book what it what is was. I wish I could have just stepped right in to the story with all of them. But, if you twisted my arm to pick a favorite, I'd have to choose Benny!
Thank you so much to Gallery Books for my copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Anytime there's a new release from Christina Lauren, I'm all in. I know the writing will be excellent, the story will pull me in, the chemistry will be swoon-worthy, and I'll fall in love with our hero and heroine. In a Holidaze is no exception. While some folks have said this starts out a little slow, for me, that was not the case. And once Mae and Andrew develop their relationship, I'm hooked.
In a Holidaze is a fun take on Groundhog Day, where Mae has a chance to redo events leading up to Christmas, in order to ensure her Happily Ever After comes true. Mae has been in love with her childhood friend, Andrew for as long as she can remember. But one wrong step that threatens an HEA with Andrew, and she reverts back in time.
I love how each iteration is not just a repetition of prior events, but adds in new information and angles to the relationship. And I love how they eventually come together in the end, despite some curve balls.
This is an excellent choice for a contemporary romance holiday read.
In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren is a sweet holiday romance that is repeated over and over until out main character, Mae, gets it right. Reminds me of Ground Hog Day. I enjoy Ms. Lauren's books, and this one is no exception. If you're looking for a fun romance that puts you into the Christmas spirit, I highly recommend this book, you won't be disappointed.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
My first holiday book of the year. In a Holidaze was a fun Groundhog Dayish story. Maelyn Jones is reliving her Christmas at the Utah cabin over and over. I wasn’t sure how this would play out; would it be the same ol’ story just being retold? How would the days be different when she is just reliving the same timeframe? I will admit that at the beginning I was ready to put the book down but then Maelyn stuck. She did not relive her time and the story got better.
I loved the family vibe of the story. The fact that the same people got together every year, no matter what was going on in their lives, to celebrate the holidays together at the Utah cabin just as their tradition called for. Bennie was a fun character. He was the weed smoking, mushroom hiding, friend of Maelyn’s dad that was like the fun uncle that everyone knew they could go to for anything they needed. Each character had quirks but as they all got together they fit together as a dysfunctional family with lots of love and support to give.
In a Holidaze was a fun and quirky winter setting book to read. If you are looking for a quick and easy book this is the perfect book for you.
