Two and a half stars. I was ready to quit at 25% in but stuck with it. It definitely got better, but I could never quite shake what irked me about it. While I'm a huge fan of romance novels, I loathe plot lines where it's implied that the woman needs a man to complete her life. In this story, it's a specific man but it still bugged me.
Mae gets stuck in a Groundhog's Day situation when she makes a wish that The Universe will show her what makes her happy. Suddenly she's back on the plane six days ago, on her way to her annual family Christmas celebration. Mae learns from her past visit, and each time she wakes up on that plane to try again, she makes changes in her life. The biggest change is that she finally tells Andrew she's had feelings for him since they were thirteen.
The writing is funny, though feels cheesy at times. I didn't like Mae much and couldn't get behind what she was doing. The plot was predictable and moved a bit too fast. I didn't like this as much at the authors' previous books, and probably wouldn't recommend it.
A holiday romance that warms the heart, In a Holidaze is the story of Maelyn Jones. Mae is at a crossroads in her life. She lives with her parents, hates her job, and will probably never admit her true feelings to her childhood crush. After her family holiday in Utah ends miserably, Mae is convinced she may never be happy, so she throws out a wish to the universe: Can you show me what will make me happy? Suddenly she finds herself in a time loop, reliving the same holiday over and over again. Fed up with how things keep turning out, Mae finally feels empowered to go for what she wants, slowly realizing her happy ending is not as impossible as she once thought.
The writing duo of Christina Lauren never disappoints. I really enjoyed this book. I didn't particularly like the time loop as a plot device. While it served as a catalyst, it also felt arbitrary and wasn't properly explained. The book is better once you get into the main story. The cast of characters is amazing, and the romance is sweet and satisfying. Overall, highly recommend!
Five out of Five stars!
Is there a book or subject Christina and Lauren can’t write about? I don’t think so! I was hesitant to start this because 1) it’s the middle of Summer and 2) I wasn’t quite sure about the story line. Let’s just say I read the entire book in one sitting and am about to re read it. It was sweet, funny, sexy, laugh out loud and charming! This is JUST the book we need it 2020.
Groundhog Day the movie meets a cute holiday romcom.
I really enjoyed this book and the modern day take on Groundhog Day. I do wish there was a little more of the do-overs as it seemed to end quick and transition into the final version of her week though.
Full review to be posted closer to publication day.
This was such a sweet, quirky and cozy rom-com. I was a bit worried about how this story line would go because of how overdone it is, but I was pleasantly surprised. It reminded me a lot of my own college friendships and even my own family vacations.
These characters read to me like a bunch of teenagers which confused me a bit because they are all actually adults. Their choices all seemed a bit juvenile. But, that was a very small aspect that I didn't like about this one. Overall, I thought this was such a fun and comical holiday story. It'll definitely get you into the right mood for the holidays.
I love Christina Lauren’s books and was excited to hear that they have a holiday romance book coming out! In a Holidaze follows 26-year-old Maelyn Jones who spends Christmas each year at a cabin with her family and family friends. However, Maelyn knows that this is the last holiday trip that they will spend together. After making a wish to the universe to show what makes her happy, she finds herself stuck in a time loop and must figure out how to break it.
I honestly was skeptical at first reading this because the story started off slow, but I really enjoyed it as we got to learn more about the main characters and their relationship. I also loved learning more about the family and other side characters. Overall, this was a fun, charming, and heartfelt read that is perfect for the holiday season!
Thank you, NetGalley for a copy of an arc in exchange for an honest review!
Christina Lauren does no wrong. I will continue to stand by that statement.
.
In a Holidaze started a little scary for me. I thought eeeeeeepppppppp, I just don't know that I can do a groundhog day. Guess what? I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was pleasantly surprised.

These ladies have such a way with characters. I really, fell in love with this blended family. I loved the concept of lifelong friends spending Christmas together in their cabin and living out the traditions every year. I'm sentimental like that :-).
.
Overall this novel was very predictable in the very best way. If you want something fun and light....and although it is happening at Christmas. I would not say it is a super Christmasy book. Pick this one up.
I have always been a huge Christina Lauren fan, and was beyond excited to see they had a holiday themed book coming out this year! .The premise is similar to a Groundhog's Day concept where our protagonist finds herself thrown back to relive her Christmas holiday in Park City over and over again until she figures out what truly makes her happy. This gives her an opportunity to "redo" the week and make it the best it could be and avoid all the pitfalls of the original trip.
The snowy scenery was beautiful, there was a lot of festive Christmas cheer, and of course a really sweet romance storyline. I thought this was one of my favorite Christina Lauren novels in a long time, and think it was the perfect holiday-themed read. It was sweet and adorable, but definitely did not cross over into cheesy holiday territory. I wish they would write more like this!
First of all I’m a huge fan of this writing duo. So I don’t personally think they’ve ever written a horrible book. But that’s just my point.
In A Holidaze is essentially what the title covers. Our heroine is thrown in a time loop, why, you ask. The reference to GROUNDHOG DAY AND LOVE ACTUALLY is fairly accurate. Mae, our lead had always spent Christmas with family and oftentimes things can go wrong. Mae makes a wish that gives her what she desires. But is it truly what she wants? How she comes to that conclusion is why you read this book.
There’s some drama and some romance thrown in. But is there secrets and lies? And that eternal loop makes it hard to keep to appearances along other things.
I recommend the book if you like either movie! Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher Gallery Books.
Christmas! Romance! Christina Lauren! How can you go wrong?! Read this sweet (Groundhog Doy-reminiscent) book and get ready to be delighted by Maelyn Jones, as she vacations with her family and friends in Utah during the holidays. At the end of the week, things go haywire, and suddenly the vacation begins again.
What I love about books and being a reader (especially one who often forgoes reading the synopsis's) is that every once in awhile you'll read two books that are eerily familiar but somehow still so unique.
In this case, our main character of In a Holidaze, Mae, is have a serious case of deja vu - much like How to Save a Life from Liz Fenton & Lisa Steinke that I just read, but the two stories could not have been more different! Am I the only one amazed and in awe when that happens between books?!
As only the second title by Christina Lauren I've read, with The Unhoneymooners being the first, I know I will now always pick up their new titles, I really enjoyed this book - it was the perfect Christmas in July title to read. I must be the only crazy that's already getting excited about the holiday season thanks to books like this one!
My new favorite Christina Lauren book and the perfect holiday read! I wasn't even finished yet before thinking "I want a sequel". I love the large holiday group format and the different timeline of this one.
It was ok. The relationship was a little juveniles compared to what normal 26 year olds deal with. Im happy it ended on a happy not.
Is this book exactly like “Groundhog Day”? No. For one thing, Maelyn figures out how to navigate her own little time warp in about three days. Is it just as heart-warming? Yes. Will regular Christina Lauren readers love it just as much as other books? I’m not sure. This is a comfortable, cozy holiday romance without any of the edges or real life issues that the authors often explore in other books. And their sense of humor is somewhat muted.
Maelyn Jones has just ruined a life-long dream. And she didn’t even mean to. It was just one stupid, drunken night and now her whole world is crashing down around her. And finding out that her family friends are selling the cabin where they’ve had Christmases since she grew up isn’t helping. Nor is the car crash that seems like it’s going to end her life. But then she wakes up six days earlier with the chance to make things right.
I have to admit that I wish that there had been a few more days while she figured things out. And the Big Misunderstanding at the end felt sort of “meh.” Still, any book by Christina Lauren is worth reading.
Three stars

Opinions are my own
Sweet, and also laugh-out-loud funny, In a Holidaze is the story of a woman who is given another chance at love. Readers will be rooting for Mae as she lives the Christmas holidays over and over again in this Groundhog Day-esque romance.
Thanks to netgalley for providing a copy in exchange for a review.
I’ve read books by this author before, but this one just fell flat.
I didn’t feel much of a romance between the two characters. The whole “groundhog” day scenario was never really explained.
It was all a bit confusing, and i felt like the characters melodrama played too much into the story. It had instalove as well, without really fleshing our a backstory for the two main characters.
I loved the Christmas aspect. I just wish more things would have been touched on.
Mae is in a pseudo nightmare she cannot seem to escape. She keeps reliving the same stretch of time, only to reach a certain point and poof she's back at the beginning again. Each time she tries to correct the wrong and set things but never quite gets the job done. I liked Mae's forthrightness when it came to her dealings with Andrew. I'm glad the story ended the way I hope it would. In a Holidaze is a pleasurable read and I think the title is a clever depiction of the plot.
Maelyn loves tradition and she loves her family as well as the friends who have become family. Since childhood every Christmas week has been spend at the same cabin with the same people. This year things end differently after one drunken mistake. On the way home from the trip Maelyn has one wish, to find what will truly make her happy.
What she doesn’t realize is this one wish will send her into a spiral of a groundhogs day. Now she is stuck reliving the week she has already had but how will she ever get out of it?
Redemption for Christina Lauren in my book! I have adored everyone of their books except the last two, Twice In A Blue Moon and The Honey Dont List. I am so excited Holidaze gets back to all the things I love about them! The characters were amazing and the details were excellent! This is a must read book for this holiday season!
I've enjoyed books by this author duo in the past. I was disappointed by this outing. If you're looking for a heartwarming Christmas tale, this isn't it. It devolves into melodrama by the halfway point. The idea of a "Groundhog Day" scenario is an interesting one, but I don't know that it was handled well. The writing was fine, but because of the amount of melodrama laced in everything the dialog sometimes fell flat and some of the plot revelations felt contrived. However, this is still better than some of the romantic fiction out there!
Have you ever wished for something or for the universe to show you a sign? What would you do if you had to keep reliving a moment in time until you got it right? That’s what happens to Mae. She wishes to be shown what will make her happy. This book was everything I needed right now. It made me laugh, it made me cry, and it made me cringe in parts. This is our one chance to make things right, and Mae has to realize that so she takes chances. This book was written so well it made me feel like I was in the book. The characters are relatable, funny, and witty. About halfway through I thought, this would make a dreamy Hallmark movie. I can’t say enough good things about this.
The writing duo, Christina & Lauren, will be an auto buy for me from now on.
