Maelyn Jones and her family are on their way home from their traditional Christmas vacation. And then they're on their way to Christmas vacation again... and again... and again. She's not happy with her job, her love life, or how Christmas vacation just went. What would she do differently if she got to do-over?
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Knowing nothing about it going in, I enjoyed every second and did not want to take a break from reading. The writing was great, all the characters were so charming and lovable, and I was hooked by the storyline. Friends-to-lovers is not usually my favorite trope but I was thoroughly invested in this romance. It's refreshing that the love interest was a great guy, not a bad boy who was good only to her, or a misunderstood hero, he was just genuinely good. All-in-all, this is one of my favorite books this year.

What a fun Christmas romance read. You can read it anytime during the year and feel Christmas happy. Mae, Andrew, Theo, Benny, along with the others staying at the cabin are characters that you wish you actually knew. Mae keeps reliving her Christmas vacation - the universe's way of forcing her to seek her happiness. This is an engaging story that keeps you wondering what Mae will do, when will she stop reliving the same days and what it will mean when she does.
Thanks to Netgalley and Gallery books for this free copy in exchange for my honest review.
This is basically the book version of the Ground Hog’s Day movie and a Hallmark Christmas movie put together. It is so fun! It is a bit of a coming of age story combined with complicated families. I have to admit I love Hallmark Christmas movies but have not always been the biggest fan of Ground Hog’s Day. I really enjoyed this book. It made the point that she kept getting sent back but it doesn’t beat it to death like the movie.
The family relationships in this book were so special. I really enjoyed those and what they added to the relationship. This was lighthearted and fun but it was also very poignant. I definitely recommend it—especially during the Christmas season .
Good Lord do I love the writing team that is Christina Lauren!!!
In a Holidaze is yet another title of excellence for the writing friends. If you don't know the story of this writing duo, look it up-- it is pretty heartwarming.
I laughed so much during the first reading that I decided to revisit the book before writing my review, and I'm glad I did. I missed some very tender, touching moments.
I recommend this book to anyone looking to be thoroughly entertained for an afternoon of recreational reading.
Christmas meets Groundhogs Day in this adorable new novel by Christina Lauren. This will be a must read for the author's fans and will is a definite buy for my library .
Another Christina Lauren book that I just adored! These two can do no wrong! "In a Holidaze" is the perfect mix of romance, holiday cheer and moments that make you laugh out loud. I can always count on this duo to bring fun to my world with their characters and storylines.

When Mae finds herself living the same Christmas vacation over and over, she makes a wish "to find what makes her happy". What follows is a week full of moments that shape and mold Mae into the person she's always wanted to be. In the hopes of being a better version of herself, Mae gives herself the go ahead to fall in love. Is a happily ever after in the cards for her? Or will Mae end up learning happiness has a cost and sometimes, you don't get the gift you've being wishing for?

Thank you NetGalley and Gallery Books for my ARC of this novel!
Christina Lauren did it again. What a SUPER-CUTE read! Even though the title and currently planned cover show a Christmas theme, and this book did take place over Christmas, it is definitely a book you can read anytime and still enjoy - can be a fall or winter book too.
The twist in the book, Mae waking up to start the day again and again, was really enchanting. I loved Mae navigating through the same day over and over trying to figure out the key to stopping the madness! The last time her day repeated and she didn't have to wake up again, I felt like there was no explanation on why it worked that particular time; I felt like the author could have tied that up a little neater.
But all-in-all it was the ending I was hoping for. A quick-read that is sure to make you happy! I would recommend this book to friends and family and definitely be on the lookout for future reads from (the consistently great story-teller) Christina Lauren.
Thank you #netgalley and #GalleryBooks for an advanced copy of #InAHolidaze in exchange for my honest opinion.
In a Holidaze by Christina Lauren follows Maelyn Jones who is leaving the snowy Utah cabin where she and her family have spent every holiday since she was born, along with two other beloved families. Mentally melting down as she drives away from the cabin for the final time, Mae throws out what she thinks is a simple plea to the universe: Please. Show me what will make me happy. The next thing she knows, tires screech and metal collides, everything goes black. But when Mae gasps awake…she’s on an airplane bound for Utah, where she begins the same holiday all over again. With one hilarious disaster after another sending her back to the plane, Mae must figure out how to break free of the strange time loop—and finally get her true love under the mistletoe.
I've read and enjoyed several Christina Lauren books and this one was no exception. The side characters and the family dynamics are so fun to follow in this novel. This book is a quick, cute, romantic read that's perfect for the holiday season!
I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
Every Christmas Mae and her family, and lifelong family friends, meet at a big cabin in the woods and celebrate their traditions. The kids have grown up together but now that they're older the dynamics are changing. Mae has had a crush on Andrew, Theo's older brother, but isn't sure what to do about it. When the holiday ends on a sad note something happens and in Groundhog Day style, Mae starts reliving the past few days. It happens more than once with Mae constantly trying to change the outcome of the gathering. Humorous, moving, and sweet, this story has the reader hoping for a holiday miracle. Recommended.
Mae is spending the holidays in a cabin in Utah with her family and closest friends, something they have done every year since before she was born. One night she has too much eggnog and ends up kissing her long time friend Theo. Mae doesn't like Theo as more than a friend, but to make matters worse she has been in love with his brother, Andrew for 13 years. To make matters worse, the owner of the cabin announces they are going to sell it and this will be their last Christmas there together. On the way home, Mae is wishing she could have more time with the people she loves in a place that makes her happy when she suddenly gets a do-over.
This is a very cute book with great characters and banter. There is a bit of a "Groundhog Day" vibe so if that isn't your thing, this may not be the book for you. I liked the beginning of this book and struggled with the time travel aspect. It felt a little forced to me. Once we got past that part I went back to loving the book and really enjoyed the conflict and the ending. Overall a great book that will make a great holiday read. I always enjoy these authors!
Thank you to NetGalley and Gallery Books for the advanced readers copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. You can preorder the book now or pick it up on October 6, 2020.
What an adorable take on the whole "Groundhog Day". Christina Lauren books are always so well written with an interesting twist. Poor Mae keeps going right back to the beginning of her Christmas vacation to redo it again. And again. And again. She gets a chance to find out what really makes her happy after being in a rut for a while. A wonderful group of characters and lovely romance gave me such a warm happy feeling. Christmas in July for me!
I want to send a huge thank you to Gallery Books for allowing me to read an ARC ebook of In a Holidaze!!
For those that know me, they know I am a huge Christina Lauren fan! And this book has been on my TBR list since the day it was announced! So not having to wait until October to read this book might have made my year!!!!
In a Holidaze is described as Groundhog Day meets The Family Stone, and I couldn't think of a more perfect way to put it! The story follows main character Maelyn (Mae) Jones during her favorite time of year... CHRISTMAS! She feels stuck in a rut with her current live, twenty-six and living with her parents, a dead end job, a romantic life that is nonexistent, and after a night of too much eggnog - she wants to disappear.
The icing on top of the cake that is her life though is that she just spent her last Christmas in the beloved snowy Utah cabin her family has been going to with two other families her entire life! As she is leaving the cabin for the final time, she makes a wish. She wants to know what will make happy! And as her family winds down the mountain, they are struck by another car. But rather than waking up in a hospital, Mae wakes up back on the plane, December 20th, on her way to the Utah cabin for Christmas!
As she begins doing the holiday over again, she thinks about what she is going to change, what is going to make this time different - and if she finds love, will she be able to hold onto it?
Christina Lauren nailed it with this book! There are few things I love more than Christmas and Rom Coms, so there was already a winning combo if you ask me! But then in true Christina Lauren fashion the story was filled with moments that made you laugh, made you cringe and made your heart melt into a puddle.
This was such a fun story and should be on everyone's TBR this holiday season!! Make sure your calendar is marked for October 6th!!
I thought this book was so fun and it was a joy to recommend it on What Should I Read Next! (That's episode 246 called "Does your reading life need a mid-year checkup?" I'm not sure why the premise of the Bill Murray film Groundhog Day is appearing in fiction lately but I like it, and I especially appreciated Christina Lauren's spin on the trope: longtime love interest that can't be revealed lest it ruin a friendship? CHECK. Incredible, scenic location? CHECK. A fun pack of friends and family to liven up the action? CHECK.
This was a fast, fun, escapist read at a time when I needed one.
Groundhog Day with a holiday romance twist that left me with a warm fuzzy feeling.
“It never occurred to me that you might be mine.”
♕Plot: When Maelyn Jones’ perfect ideal holiday getaway spot with her family and best friends since childhood is threatened to be sold and no longer available to celebrate togetherness with her chosen family, Mae asks the universe to show her what would make her happy and the next thing she knows she’s stuck in a time loop repeating her holiday until she gets the right guy to notice her and she’s able to figure out what she wished for.
♕ Heroine: Mae seems to be stuck in a rut with a job she doesn’t love, living with her parents and getting attention from the wrong Hollis brother, but after repeating the holiday cycle a couple of times she decides to be honest with Andrew Hollis, the guy she’s crushed on since she was thirteen.
“How does one move on from a man so kind of heart and fine of @$$?”
♕ Hero: Andrew was a wonderful hero. He’s kind, funny, playful and loving. I love how he cared for Mae and how he immediately seized the opportunity to be with Mae once it was presented to him.
“I’ve loved you my whole life, but this new thing….” He sucks in a deep breath. “It’s amazing and scary.”
♕ Sexiness: Mae and Andrew or Mandrew and Maissie had an equal amount of sweet and sexy moments together. Their banter was smile inducing and their romance was a wonderful escape.
♕Feels: Even though it starts out slow, this story provides all the good feels perfect for a winter holiday read with its heartfelt family connections and all the entertaining sweet and hilarious moments.
♕ Facts: In a Holidaze is a standalone contemporary romance by Christina Lauren. It is told from the heroine’s point of view with a happy ending.
This book was a delight. Groundhog Day meets Home for the Holidays. I really love it when an author can make a bit of magic or the supernatural fit in a book, yet somehow make it feel like any other contemporary romance. The love growing out of a forever friendship felt natural and absolutely believable. Very well done!
In a Holidaze is exactly what I have come to expect from a Christina Lauren novel-- an easy, fun and fluffy story with entertaining characters that will pull me in and keep me reading. I read this whole book in one sitting! It's a bit cheesy and completely fluffy, basically a lot of mindless fun. It feels a lot like a Hallmark Christmas movie (although it's not as squeaky clean as a Hallmark movie, there are some steamy love scenes in this one. I ended up skipping over several pages, as it felt excessive).
The premise: Maelyn Jones has been coming to the same cabin with her family and friends for her entire life. She grew up spending Christmas here with Andrew and Theo, the sons of her parent's friends. While both men have always been like brothers to her, Mae has had a secret crush on Andrew for most of her life. One year, after making a wish to find happiness, Mae finds herself stuck in a time loop. She keeps repeating her Christmas vacation over and over again. Is this how her wish will come true? Will she finally have the chance to find out if Andrew feels the same way about her?
I do always love a story that messes around with time, so I just gobbled this one up! I have read it described as Love Actually meets Groundhog Day, which feels accurate! I do think you have to just go with the "time travel/Groundhog day" plot. Don't try to make too much sense out of it, because I'm not sure it fully does make sense. But who cares? A story like this is not so much about making time travel logical as it is about keeping you entertained and charmed. And this story is full of charming characters and an endearing romance that will surely make you smile. Combine that with the wintry Christmas cabin setting, and this one is most definitely a winner for a feel-good holiday book.
I think the title is a bit cheesy, but honestly, it's probably an accurate description of what you get when you read this romantic comedy. Nothing too serious or meaty, but it is, cute, charming, and lots of fun. If you like romances, it would be a great book to read with a cup of cocoa while watching the snow fall outside this winter!
Thanks to NetGalley and Gallery Books for sending me an advance copy in exchange for my honest review. This book is available on October 6, but I would recommend waiting until closer to Christmas to read this one!!
A fun, light read about finding your true self to be happy and to find your happily ever after. I liked Mae's growth as a character. Doing a story with time travel is tricky. Was this a case of Mae being rebooted each time or are there other time lines out there where she is injured in a car crash, breaks her neck falling down stairs, or dies from a tree limb falling on her? How is her family coping her injuries/death in the other timelines? If she is injured in the future, will she end up on that plane again even though she found happiness and love? Maybe I'm focusing on the wrong aspect of the book and what it's trying to teach us. Outside of that I enjoyed the story and had a few laugh out loud scenes.
This was an unusual premise for a romance, a play on the movie Groundhog Day, where the heroine relived a day over and over. And it all started with a wish, as Maelyn "Mae" Jones felt everything going wrong in her life. So she asks for a "do over" of sorts. Only problem, was she kept getting a do over, over and over. LOL
Things start to turn the corner for Mae when she finally opens up to the man she's crushed on for years, Andrew Hollis. Her honesty was refreshing and I think Andrew recognized how hard it was for her to take a chance and lay everything out. The rest just seemed to fall into place.
This couple had a natural connection, it felt effortless. It made me wonder why they both waited so long. But I liked how they both began to reevaluate their lives together.
"It never occurred to me that you might be mine."
My only issue with the story was the dreaded formula. If you've read my other reviews from this author duo, I've figured out part of their formula and it's a bit maddening. I know exactly when things are going to go wrong, and this book was no exception. In fact, the drama seemed over the top and completely unnecessary. I think this is one of those books they could have ignored the formula.
Despite that issue, overall, this was a sweet read. I loved all of the family traditions throughout and the fun cast of secondary characters. As I read in this never-ending summer heat, I longed for the holidays. So if you are looking for a great escape, check this one out!
*Actual rating is a 3.5*
IN A HOLIDAZE is one of those books I expect people will either love or hate. Besides the time travel element, this book lacks the traditional romance structure (though it delivers a HEA, I promise!). For the first 15-20%, I was worried this was going to fall into the "hate" category for me but then the story really kicked into gear and became an utter delight.
IN A HOLIDAZE highlights a lot of the elements Christina Lauren does really well. We have grade A banter between the love interests, plenty of interesting + lovable side characters, and a swoon-worthy ending. I was surprised to find that the content in this book is a bit tamer than the author's other books. There weren't true fade-to-black sex scenes but they were much less descriptive than I've come to expect from Christina Lauren's other books. This didn't spoil the book for me but was a bit unexpected.
I wish the romance element of the story had appeared a little sooner in the book. There was quite a decent chunk of the book where I was convinced that any sort of relationship between Maelyn and Andrew could never happen. Seeing Maelyn learn more about herself and what she needs to do to make her life more fulfilling was an interesting storyline, though, and did a good job carrying some of the slower parts of the book.
This was a fun holiday story with a cute romance. It's not my favorite of Christina Lauren's books but was still a solid read.
She’s 26 and for her whole life, every Christmas vacation has been spent in a cabin with her family and 2 others. It’s her favorite place in the world, and she’s harbored a silent crush on one of the other “kids” for 13 years. In her normal life, she has had to move back home and is miserable in her job and unlucky in love. When she learns that the cabin is going to be sold, it’s like a wake up call that things have to change and she needs to do something to be happy, so she asks the universe to show her what would make her happy, and it sends her back to the beginning of the same holiday. Again. And again. Finally, she figures it out and eventually lives happily ever after.
This was my first Christina Lauren book, and it is similar to what I expected, i.e. judging their books by the covers. It is a cute little Christmas romance and a fun read. Big thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review.
