I loved this book! My daughter is two and half and very interested in helping me make 'recipes' in the kitchen so this was perfect for us! It was filled with great and simple recipes and very cute illustrations. We cant wait to cook our way through this book.
Easy recipes that kids of any age (as long as they are able to read well) will be able to follow! I have two daughters, ages 8 and 10, and even my youngest was able to follow many of the recipes independently, with me supervising.
We made several things out of this cookbook: Cinnamon Swirl French Toast, Apple Cinnamon Overnight Oats, Scrambled Cheesy Eggs, Veggie Fried Rice, Stovetop Mac 'N' Cheese, Almond Butter Dip with Apples and Pretzels, Cinnamon Sugar Popcorn, and the Fresh Squeezed Lemonade. All of these were easy to make and delicious!
I loved the writing in this cookbook as well. The author talks to the child, rather than the parent, giving fun little tips, pieces of advice and words of encouragement. There are so many variations for many of the recipes, which I think is such a great idea in a children's cookbook, as many kids are picky eaters.
My daughters will definitely be making more of these recipes, along with repeating several of the ones we tried and loved already!
Thank you NetGalley and Sourcebooks Kids for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
This book is stuffed with many recipes that kids are sure to love. While the food is kid-friendly, all of the recipes require an older helper and encourage kids and adults to use cooking as a special bonding time. Some of the recipes are long but look delicious. Children are sure to love the cartoon drawings on each page and the punny food jokes at the end of the books. Parents will welcome the kid-pleasing recipes and the chance to share cooking skills with the little ones.
We always need more kids cookbooks! This one was lots of fun. My toddler is a fan, even! We've made three recipes so far and I'm sure more are to come.
Considering how picky kids can be about what they eat, I think real pictures of the food would have been great--but the illustrations are charming. I love the suggestions for substitutions, especially considering the food shortages we're coming up against.
This is a good cookbook for cooking together. Each recipe has multiple steps and definitely some that I think a child would need help with. I liked all the colorful pictures and there are a bunch of nice recipes. I also liked how it talked about washing your hands and other things to get prepped and to have a grown-up help.
Thanks to NetGalley for this ARC!
Although it's called "My Very First Cookbook" and has fantastic reminders throughout about washing hands and when to have adults turn on the oven, each step has numerous directions. and therefore will be especially difficult for children to follow. The recipes seem fantastic and diverse, but some are definitely more complicated than a "very first cookbook." It's a good cookbook, but not exactly as the title would indicate. It does have some great ideas for substitutions to personalize recipes.
This book is so fun and colorful! Perfect for kids! All the recipes are easy to make, very colorful and easy to follow. It requires a grown up help but the kids can do most of the steps. I received a free digital copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for my honest review
This is a must read for all ages. It’s funny cute and has some great recipes that will become your new standard ie the IHOP like ricotta pancakes. Easy to follow and not your typical children’s recipes.
