This creativity in this is amazing. I have loved seeing Queer history depicted so beautifully and easily digestible. I think this could be an absolutely huge publish and help a lot of people be educated and feel accepted.
With any anthology, there will be a selection of different writing and illustration styles as well as story lines. There were several that I connected with and some where it took me longer to get into reading them. Overall though it gives a spectrum of experiences in the LGBTQIA+ community.
This was an absolute treasure to read. The collection of history mixed with personal stories, humor mixed with seriousness. We get lots of different voices and views, that shows that being queer and part of the LGBTQ+ community isn't just one experience fits all. I loved reading this, getting to be educated in both facts and feelings.
The stories are short and some you will wish to get to know more. But that's the tragedy and charm of antholgies.
Recommend this to all. (Thank you, Netgalley and IDW Publishing for the ARC - these thoughts are, of course, my own take away from the book)

A surprisingly diverse collection of short comics demonstrating that "the LGBTQ experience" is truly more multiplicitous than singular. Major topics surround sexual orientation, gender expression, and gender identity. Brought to you by a broad selection of creators, the comics within may be historically educational, modernly political, or just for a laugh. My favorites included "Pronoun Panic" by Kendra Wells and "Take a Hint" by Julia Bernhard. Thank you to NetGalley, IDW Publishing, and Matt Bors for the ARC!
Lovely and powerful anthology of short comics, by and about LGBTQ+ people.
The diversity of subjects, tone, and art styles was just wonderful. Many LGBTQ+ readers will find experiences in these comics that resonate with them. It would be a great addition to the graphic novel collection at any library.
This is a modge-podge of different things; a mixture of queer history and personal stories from a slew diverse queer comic artists.
I liked getting a history of the LGBT community, intermixed with authors talking about what being queer/trans means for them. Where we've been, how far we've come, and how far we still have to go.
Highly recommend for those who are interested in LGBT history and experience, but aren't necessarily drawn to text. Be Gay, Do Comics contains historical events and people you may not have heard of before. Some stories you'll definitely wish were longer than a couple pages.
ARC recieves from Netgalley and IDW for an honest review.
This is a wonderful compilation of funny, sad, hopeful, inspirational, and thought-provoking comics. I particularly loved the comics that highlighted parts of history that are often ignored or intentionally suppressed. These were heartrending while also filling me with a rightful indignation to exact change in my own community. I also enjoyed learning about how people perceived their own queer identities and how they came to love and value themselves. This book is a wonderful read for anyone wanting to learn more about queer people around the world, past and present.
Thank you for the opportunity to review Be Gay, Do Comics by Matt Bors. This was a wonderful read through a variety of LGBTQ+ perspectives and encounters, all artfully and thoughtfully curated. While I do not have a current course available to assign excerpts, I'll keep BGDC in mind for the future. I believe that students have a lot to gain. In the meantime, I'll certainly recommend the book to others.
A cute collection of comics from queer creators depicting an array of life experiences--funny, heartfelt, and painfully accurate. A great anthology for Pride Month, and with comics not only about personal stories but also history and culture, you're sure to learn something along the way.
This was an excellent, interesting and diverse compilation of comics about LGBTQIA issues and history, mainly centered on the U.S. but with some information about LGBTQIA experiences in other countries as well.
I received an ARC through NetGalley from IDW Publishing. This compilation features 40 LGBTQ+ comic artists/writers. A true collection of perspective and inclusion. So many voices and the perfect balance of biographical, historical, and political content. A really engaging read and tons of fantastic art to compliment. Highly recommended.
I have been a long time reader of the Nib, so Ias definitely familiar with several of the graphic novelists in this book. It was an excellent read and really ran the gamut of all kinds of LGBTQ modern day stories and lots of history too. Definitely a recommended read!

This comic anthology is filled to the brim with humor, sadness, historical fiction, all under the umbrella of queerness and its many facets. Beyond the richness of experience contained within this volume, I also found within it the permission to "queer enough." A must read for its lesser known histories as well as its heart.
A truly beautiful exploration of a wide range of queer identities told through individualized comics. The title is A+, the cover is striking, the content is *so* significant, and I think it came at the perfect time. It was the perfect mix of biographical, historical, and political content with biographical and autobiographical LGBTQ+ lives sprinkled in as well. A pleasure to read and enjoy.
A great mix of historical and. current LGBTQ issues, with perspectives from all over the world, and a variety of artistic styles.
This compilation of queer comic artists was an absolute delight to read. It was organized perfectly, the heavier comics were separated out so by the end of reading it I walked away inspired and hopeful and educated on some important history.
This is a fantastic anthology by lgbtqia comic authors about being queer. There are a lot of different stories about different aspects of their lives. It was great to read about such a diverse anthology of experiences and about some of the history of the lgbtqia movement.
I love the Nib. I'll get that out of the way right now. So, when I saw there was going to be a collection of Nib comics specifically focusing on LGBT topics, I was over the moon, and this collection didn't disappoint. It has something for everyone, incisive political commentary, interesting queer history, and personal reflections. I especially love the the ones written by nonbinary people about their experiences. As a nonbinary person, it makes me feel seen and less alone. It was also cool learning a bit about histories I didn't know beforehand, especially the other protests leading up to the Stonewall Riots.
This book is great and has a really cool variety of art styles and perspectives from different folks. I would definitely recommend this for anyone interested in LGBTQ perspectives with a bit of snark and heart.
I really enjoyed this. 40 LGBTQIA writers and artists telling the whole rainbow of stories, their own and others. Many of them are straightforward testimonies, but not all. Great art and presentation. I was a little sad there was only one intersex story in the whole collection. I thought this could be a great learning tool for parents and children, though not too young since there is some profanity and nudity here and there. The book really runs the gamut of the LGBTQIA experience. #netgalley #begaydocomics
